Explore Forest In Canada With 72000 Signposts
Travelers passing through the tiny town of Watson Lake along the Alaska Highway in Yukon, Canada, seem to take this adage literally. What they leave behind is a sign (well, signpost actually) of their roots, their hometowns.
It all started back in 1942 during the construction of the Alaska Highway. Back then, the town of Watson Lake didn’t even exist! In its place was a Military Air Base and Airport used by the American Army that was building the highway. American soldier Carl Lindley serving with the 341st Army of Engineers, was a part of the team working on the Alaska Highway. Injured on the construction site, he was taken to the Army Aid Station to recuperate when a commanding officer asked him to repair and erect a directional signpost. Those days, it was a common practice for the US Army of Engineers to install directional signposts at their camps. Homesick and lonely, he added a personal touch to the task by adding a signpost of his hometown, Danville, Illinois.
Little did he know that this act of his would become trend that would be carried on for decades. Inspired by Lindley, several soldiers started putting up signposts of their hometowns. Soon, it became a tradition. After the army left, travelers on Alaska Highway too, started putting up signposts of their native places.
Since then, Lindley’s single signpost has grown into a forest of signposts spread across a couple of acres. New panels to put up the signposts are being added even today! Over the years, people not only put up their signposts but have also become creative with it. There are signatures on dinner plates, and messages and license plates from across the globe, including a 6x10 feet sign from a German autobahn! It’s astonishing how much effort and thought people put behind each signpost. The Watson Lake Sign Post Forest now has over 72,000 signs and more are added every month! Every year, an average of 1,100 signposts are added to the forest!
Sadly, Lindley’s original signpost no longer exists. In September 1992, the Watson Lake Sign Post Forest celebrated its 50th anniversary. To commemorate this special event, Carl Lindley and his wife Elinor were invited as guests of honor. A replica of the original directional signpost was installed and Lindley, just like he did 50 years ago, replaced the signpost of his hometown Danville where he lived until his death in 2002. This replica of the Danville signpost is kept in the Visitor Center along with photos of Lindley.

World’s Largest Picture Frame, The Dubai Frame
The City of Superlatives does it again. Dubai has once again shattered all records to build the magnificent Dubai Frame, a glittering golden picture frame. This latest addition to Dubai’s skyline rises 150-meters above Zabeel Park and has a massive 93-meter long viewing gallery at the top of the frame.
Dubai is a city that likes to think ahead. Take a peek into Dubai’s future and soaring ambitions through a neon-lit ‘vortex’ that’ll show you glimpses of UAE, 50 years from now. This interactive, augmented reality exhibition is rather immersive especially the ‘vortex’ as it creates a mirage of time travel. While you take trip into Dubai’s future, don’t forget about its past. The ground flood is home to a fantastic museum that’ll tell you the story of Dubai and its meteoric rise.
Imagine walking along a glass-floored walkway and soaking in the most stunning views of Dubai! Mind you, this glass walkway can be quite scary at first, but soon you’ll enjoy the views below your feet too. From this incredible vertiginous vantage point, you’ll see the different personalities of Dubai. On one side lies Bur Dubai and Deira Creek, the city’s historic areas. On the other side is the mighty Burj Khalifa and the glitzy Dubai International Financial Center, a spectacular collection of colossal skyscrapers.
Designed by award-winning architect Fernando Donis, this project was built at a whopping cost of 160 million DHS (43 million USD). Over 2000 tons of steel, 2,900 square meters of laminated glass, and 15,000 square meters of gold cladding went into making this frame. The golden rings on the frame are inspired by the Expo 2020 logo.
Since its launch in January 2018, this frame has been an instant hit and understandably so. This project was announced nearly a decade ago and finally open to visitors. It is expected that over two million will visit the Dubai Frame every year.

Enjoy Destinations With Flight Layovers
Having traveled with planned layovers for many years now, here are some travel tips to get you started:
DO THE LESS-ORDINARY
Identify destinations that you would ordinarily not visit for an independent vacation or maybe to sample a destination before you actually plan a vacation there. Flying across the ocean? A layover more than 7 hours in Taipei, Taiwan will give you a free tour of the city! Or maybe a stopover at Manila, Philippines to experience the beautiful sunset at the Manila Bay or a tour of the historic walled city in Manila.
Maybe you could even experience two cities on each leg of your journey!
VISIT THE FAVORITES
Have a favorite city? You can keep going back, if only to visit your favourite restaurant or to relive memories from a previous trip. Some places you just can’t get enough of, even if it is just for a day!
So what’s stopping you from spending an evening in Paris?
CHECK VISA REQUIREMENTS
Before you plan your layover, make sure to check visa requirements. While some cities may offer visa free entries for certain nationalities, others often provide a transit visa at the airport to enable you to see the city while you wait for your next flight. There is however, a minimum layover requirement to get these transit visas, often of 5 to 6 hours of more.
So the next time you are planning a vacation, make sure to check out all the cool cities you could explore on way to your destination. iTraveleo curates flights with long layovers ideal to explore a city for the adventurous traveller. Just search for flights to your destination and use the Explorer sort filter and iTraveleo will provide you a curated set of layovers in a jiffy. What’s more iTraveleo will even recommend the best flights with layovers using its proprietary scoring algorithm, taking into account the duration of the layover and the price of the flight.
THERE IS NO RIGHT DURATION
A layover can be as long or as short as you desire. Most cities that offer free city tours during layovers do so for a minimum layover of 7 to 8 hours. And then there are airlines that allow you to extend layovers into stopovers through overnight stays with city tours or meals as extra perks. The maximum layover allowed under one booking is generally around 22 hours. Though there are a number of airlines that allow layovers of a few hours to up to 22 hours, Finair, IcelandAir and WOWAir take the cake, allowing you to stop over for 5 to 7 days while flying certain routes!
So what’s stopping you from getting two trips in one on your next vacation!?

Insanely Delicious Singaporean Dishes
Singapore’s legendary cuisine is influenced by the Malay, Chinese, Indian, Indonesian, Peranakan, Thai and even Western cuisines. In Singapore, you don’t need a Yelp or Zomato; walk in any direction and delectable food awaits. With so many choices, we’ve summed up 15 Singaporean dishes that are available across hawker stalls, food courts in malls, as well as restaurants and are guaranteed to satiate every foodie’s taste buds.
Fish Head Curry
Truly Singaporean in nature, this scintillating stew brings together Indian curry with a Chinese delicacy, the fish head. According to popular urban tale, an innovative chef at a small Indian restaurant created this dish to please Chinese customers who loved fish head. Since then, this fiery red Fish Head Curry is served in most Indian, Chinese, Malay, and Peranakan restaurants, each serving its own version.
Curry Puffs
Fantastically crispy and golden, Curry Puffs are crescent-shaped miniature pies featuring a curry filling enclosed within short crust pastry. Either baked or deep-friend, the most popular fillings for curry puffs include vegetables, potato, chicken, tuna, and crab making them perfect for vegetarians as well as non-vegetarians. With most people having a go-to place for these little parcels of delight, Curry Puffs are undeniably Singapore’s most loved mid-day snack.
Hokkien Mee
Sometimes all you need is a soul-satisfying bowl of noodles to get you through the day and Singapore has dished out the most perfect version of it! A hawker stall favorite, Hokkien Mee is made up of egg noodles stir fried in soy sauce, vinegar, chilli, eggs and adorned with prawn, squid, fish cakes, and bits of chicken / pork. Each serving is accompanied with sambal sauce and a lime wedge. Although traditionally a meat packed dish, you can find vegetarian versions Hokkien Mee or other types of fried noodles in quite a few restaurants and hawker stalls.
Singapore Chilli Crab
Local legend goes that this iconic dish was created in 1956 by Madam Cher Yam Tian, who used to sell mud crabs with a sweet and spicy tomato sauce on a humble pushcart along Kallang River. These mouth-watering crabs were an instant hit and went on to become so popular that Madam Cher was able to open a restaurant called Palm Beach, that continues to serve the original Singapore Chilli Crab. Today, this sweet, spicy, and tangy dish has become synonymous with Singapore’s culinary heritage.
Carrot Cake – Chai Tow Kway
Singapore’s carrot cake is nothing like its western version; it is neither sweet nor is it made up of carrots. This savory Singaporean specialty is made by combining shreds of daikon radish and rice flour to form rice cakes that are steamed and fried with eggs, garlic, and pickled radish. Soft yet wonderfully crispy this snack is easily found at most hawker stalls.
Rojak
Just like Singapore, Rojak is a mélange of textures and flavors. Literally translating to ‘mixtures’, this hotchpotch of a dish combines together crunchy fruits and vegetables tossed in a shrimp paste (can be opted out for a veggie version) and palm sugar sauce and garnished with crushed peanuts. It both sounds and looks suspicious but tuck into this salad of sorts and you’ll be dazzled by its sweet and salty flavor.
Barbecued Stingray
Singaporeans love to pig out on barbecues and no proper Singaporean barbecue is complete without the perennial favorite – stingray. This local delight is made by slathering the stingray with spicy sambal sauce, wrapping it in banana leaves and then grilling it on the barbecue. The hot and spicy flavors of the Sambal sauce makes it the perfect topping for the tender stingray. A must-have, indeed!

Explore Iceland's Gunnuhver
Iceland is a brewing geothermal field abound with wondrous natural hot springs and geysers. And in the heart of the Reykjanes UNESCO Global Geopark, home to an infernal terrain filled with 100 different craters, lava fields, bird cliffs and high geothermal areas, lies Gunnuhver, Iceland’s largest hot spring. Although it’s pretty dangerous, Gunnuhver is all about wild, otherworldly sceneries and a mysterious legend.
Gunnuhver’s natural beauty is also steeped in a haunting local legend. Story goes that about 400 years ago, a woman named Gudrun “Gunna” lived on this peninsula in a small house owned by a lawyer named Vilhjalmur Jonsson. The locals suspected her of being a witch because of a mysterious pot in her house that was always brewing something. Unfortunately, when Gunna failed to pay her rent, Jonsson took away her cooking pot. Enraged with fury, Gunna starved herself to death.
The angry poltergeist wasn’t content at that. Her hateful specter continued to haunt and terrorize everyone living in the peninsula. Frustrated, the locals sought the help of a priest who had an interesting solution to trap Gunna forever. The villagers under the priest’s advice, left a loose end from a ball of twin for the ghost to grab. Luckily, she did and was dragged along as the ball rolled into the hot spring, trapping her in it for eternity. Since then, the hot spring came to be known as Gunnuhver, or Gunn’s hot spring. Some believers of the legend claim that Gunna’s ghost never did fall into the infernal pit, but continues to hang on its edge.
How to visit? Gunnuhver is part of the Reykjanes UNESCO Global Geopark located at about an hour away from Reykjavik. It can be safely accessed by visitors on two guided ramps maintained by the geopark. Visitors can enjoy an up-close-and-personal experience and see the steam oozing out of the hot spring and hear the rumbling noise of boiling water.

Explore The Fairy Tale Forest In Canada
Oh, how magically beautiful is the Enchanting Forest from our favorite childhood fairy tales! Hang on. This isn’t a fairy tale. This forest exists. It’s in Canada! Yep, you read that right.
Artists Doris Needham’s passion was creating hand-sculpted cement sculptures of figures from fairy tales and nursery rhymes. But there was a problem. She didn’t have any place to keep her art. So, in the 1950s, she and her husband Ernest came up with an innovative idea. They bought a forest and filled it with more than 350 handmade fairytale figurines. Voila, they created their own little Enchanted Forest. Over the years, they built little waterfalls, castles, cute little cottages, giant mushrooms, tree houses, dungeons and dragons and little hidden surprises scattered all over the forest.
Word about this wondrous forest spread, and by 1970, a million people had visited this marvelous fantasy land. Soon, the flocking crowds became unmanageable. Wanting a more peaceful retired life, Doris and Ernest sold their wonderland to Rocky and Juliet Ehlers and their three children, who love and take care of the forest. Visitors are still most welcome to explore the forest.
Where exactly is this Enchanting Forest? It is located midway between Sicamous (35km) and Revelstoke (32km) in British Columbia, Canada. The best part of this forest is that you don’t have to be a kid to enjoy it. The forest itself is wonderful with an 800-year-old cedar grove. You can take a walk through lush forest trails or paddle away in a large beaver pond. Come autumn, you can see salmon spawning. During migration season, look out for sightings of moose and caribou.
This park is open all 7 days if the week from May to October and entrance fees is very low $9 for kids, $12 for adults, and $11 for seniors and free for babies and toddlers. So, plan your next trip to this perfect place and let your kids imaginations run.

Kwai Tai Shek Temple - Mumbai' s Hidden Temple
Back in the early 1900s, Mazgaon was home to a thriving Chinese community who came all the way from Canton in Southern China to Mumbai to work for the East India Company. Working as merchants, traders, and sailors, they became an integral part of the city. In its prime, Mumbai’s Chinatown even had its very bustling Chinese school. Sadly, that was only until 1962. When the Indo-China War broke out, they were forced to migrate back to China. Today, there are hardly 1,500 Chinese left in Mumbai and the only remaining evidence of the city’s erstwhile Chinatown is the 90-year-old Kwai Tai Shek Temple and a cemetery.
During the Chinese New Year and Moon Festival, the temple springs to life with festivities and brings together the city’s Chinese community. Unfortunately, most people don’t know this hidden gem even exists. On most days, the temple sees few visitors barring the local Chinese, making it hard for the temple to sustain. So, give the temple a new lease on life, and visit in flocks. It’s a must-visit for culture buffs.
Inside the temple, red, the Chinese color of prosperity, dominates. The interiors are decorated with exquisite Chinese murals and silk drapery, while traditional paraphernalia hang atop. At the temple’s center lies its intricate altar where the neatly carved figurine of Kwan Kung rests. Kwan Kung, the Chinese warrior god is believed to be the remover of all obstacles and bringer of prosperity.
Not just the future, you can even find answers to your dilemmas using the kidney bean or crescent moon shaped Jiaobei blocks. A common Chinese divination tool, these blocks come in pairs. One side of the block is bulged representing yin while the other flat side depicts yang. Ask a yes or no question and throw the pair of blocks how you’d throw a dice. If the blocks land with one bulged side and one flat side, the answer to your question is ‘Yes’. However, if both bulged sides face upwards, the answer is ‘No’. For other interpretations of the blocks, ask the friendly and ever ready to help temple priest.
Housed inside a nondescript two-storey building in Mazgaon, a bright scarlet door is the only sign suggesting the temple’s presence inside. A rickety old wooden staircase leads to the temple on the second floor. In the inner shrine, a mural depicting Fuk, Luk, and Sau, the Chinese Gods of blessing, longevity, and prosperity welcome you in.

There is a place in Nairobi, Kenya where you can get face to face with the giraffe and enjoy feeding giraffe by looking in its eyes.
History behind Giraffe Center in Kenya!
In 1979, Jock and Betty Leslie-Manville started a conservation project at their home in Narirobi’s Lang’ata suburb, to save the nearly extinct Rothschild Giraffe. Jock and Betty’s extraordinary project began with their first adopted giraffes, Daisy and Marlon. They raised them with a lot of care and love as a part of their family. In fact, they were among the first people ever to rear giraffes and initiate a program of breeding them in captivity. As funds and support grew, they were able to successfully repopulate the Rothschild Giraffe and reintroduce them to a number of Kenyan national parks. Before they knew it, their project had grown into the Giraffe Center.
In 1983, they opened the center to the public and it is now part of the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife Ltd. Visitors can now hang out with giraffes and learn more about them at the center. To get up close and personal with these gentle giants head up to the feeding platform. Don’t forget to carry some food pellets to feed them. If the giraffes like you, they might give you sloppy kiss with their big purple tongues. Later, you can take a stroll through the center’s serene nature trail and meet a variety of birds and small animals like dik dik, warthogs, and squirrels.
Thanks to their effort, today there are over 500 of these lovely lanky animals happily residing in various Kenyan national parks.
