Entry point at Karntaka Forest check point at Bandipur entrance is closed     from 9PM to 6AM.

Entry point at TamilNadu check post forest check point (Kakanala) is closed from 9PM to 6AM.

Entry from Thepakadu to Masinagudi is closed from 9PM to 6PM.

The Mudumalai National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary  (now declared a Tiger Reserve) lies on the northwestern side of the Nilgiri Hills (Blue Mountains),in Nilgiri District,about 80 km north-west of Coimbatore in the westernmost part of Tamil Nadu,  on the interstate boundaries with Karnataka and Kerala states in South India. The size of the sanctuary is 320 square kms.

 The Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR) has emerged as an important wildlife habitat due to its strategic position.It is a crucial link between various other protected areas that are a part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. To the north is the Bandipur/Nagarhole Tiger Reserve, West is the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, South Mukurthi/Silent Valley National Park and East is the Segur plateau which connects to the Sathyamangalam/BRT Wildlife Sanctuary.

One can spot large herds of Asian elephants, bison, and spotted deer. The sanctuary is also a haven for tigers and leopards, and lot of other rare wildlife animals. There are around 266 species of birds in the sanctuary, including the endangered black and orange flycatcher. Mudumalai, which means 'first hills', is not only one of the first wildlife sanctuaries in India but also one of the most beautiful wildlife sanctuaries of world. The deciduous trees shed their green leaves during the summer, and adopt a floral garb while the arrival of the monsoons hails fruits and tender greens.
