“what’s up with you? i don’t think i’ve ever seen you look so pissed off.” justice mumbled as he opened the front door to his apartment, holding it open so romeo could actually come in. he’d known romeo for a while now and knew most of what was going on with him. it was a weird friendship, but a connection he’d never really give up. there was no point when they got along so well, but were also extremely different in many different ways. “you literally just got out of class.. what happened?” he closed the door behind his friend, pulling down the hood of his hoodie as if it was going to help him listen to the inevitable conversation -- or he hoped it would come anyway. “-- did you run into sera? was that it?” justice was just trying to think of what could possibly be the worst scenario for @solitaried. “if you tell me.. i’ll give you a beer. they’re super cold too!!”

it wasn’t a secret to the rest of west bridge just how academic akira could be, however it never failed to surprise others. she was easily characterized as a frazzled, carefree girl on campus… adjective that wouldn’t normally be associated with a student at the top of her class. on more then one occasion the girl had shocked others when trying to explain her major. however, luckily there were people like justice who just got that side of akira and accepted it. sure, it might be a bit weird … akira being good friends with his ex-girlfriend and all. she was careful to play a safe middle ground between the two, so much she still didn’t know the ‘ full ’ story of their falling out nor did she ask. the pair hadn’t let such awkwardness seep into their hang outs, rather they focused on the one thing they both loved, oh, so much …. science. the pair could often be found surrounded by various textbooks rambling on and on about the most recent scientific discovery, it was fun.
there’s a short jump from the girl at justice’s echoing, yet excited voice beside her in the quiet library. it takes a short moment for his words to sink before her eyes are widening curiously. “ it was a bit loud , “ she simply shrugs with a short laugh making room on the tabl beside her for him. “ - but you can’t just say something like that without backing it up ? where did you read that ? i wonder why that is … does it have something with the melanin levels ? “ her eyebrows quirk as she thinks for a moment. at his words she quickly looks back towards him, “ oh great ! i’m doing so well in my physics class but biology is really kicking my ass ! it’s the understanding of it all really … “
he’s just glad that the girl shared the same enthusiasm as he did once he told her the news, his eyes wide and expression still completely animated as he started to explain. “so what they said was that male giraffes usually darken as they age -- which is true, it doesn’t happen to all of them though. but now they’re saying that it’s indicating a social competitiveness around other male giraffes.” he inhaled deeply, looking around to see if anybody was listening in. it was no secret that he was the biggest nerd around and a few obviously knew that akira could be the exact same, but he didn’t want anybody judging the girl. mostly because he was around. however justice just knew that if anybody was going to get him and understand his excitement about this news, it was akira. “they compared it to lions and their manes so the female lions usually prefer male lions with a darker mane because it usually proves they’re more dominant.” he’s pulling out his notes for the girl now, placing them in the space that was cleared up for him. “they're saying that male giraffes who are darker may be a lot more dominant and use a risky but often successful mating tactic when looking for females.” justice holds up his finger then, “but get this.. the lighter, less dominant giraffes will make the light of a bad situation -- which feels horrible to say even if they are animals.. and will go to the remaining females in hopes of reproducing when a dominant male isn't around... isn’t that crazy?!”

“of course i do.” justice whispered in response, his hand extending out across the table with a small frown. why was she doubting that now? he had always seen her for who she was. most people saw brooke as egotistical, as big-headed.. someone who only cared for herself. but justice was fortunate to see the good sides of brooke, the best sides of brooke. she was sweet, and loving.. and such a beautiful person. justice always has a way with people, knows how to see their good side and how to make them open up.. brooke is certainly no exception. he’d jokingly brag that it was all his doing!! that he was the one who made her good, but that wasn’t the case. she was a sweetheart who hid under a facade and man, was he so, so happy to have uncovered that to see everything for what it was. to see her for who she truly was.
“you’re good, you’re sweet… you’re the best girlfriend that a guy could ever ask for.” his instincts are completely leading him now as he squeezes her hand, lifting and moving the wine he had been sipping at during their dinner date away from their hands. “and you never have to hide anything from me ever. tell me what you need to, tell me when you need me.. whether that’s physically or if you need an actual reminder. you’re an amazing woman, brooke bae. you’re fucking gold, baby. and you need to remember your worth and know that you’re the most amazing woman in the world.” there’s a slight pause as his eyes narrow at her – but it’s all him thinking. he could speak on and on about how incredible she truly is, about how she deserves the world and how he’ll always try to give it to her, but he’s caught off short by his own thoughts blocking those ones. it probably has to do with all the wine he’s been drinking too. “–i sound like i’m just trying to butter you up or something, but it’s the truth..” there’s another quick squeeze of her hand before it’s reaching for his glass to take a sip from it, clearly needing that liquid courage even more now. “i haven’t been this happy in a while.. and i never thought you’d step into my life but you’ve made it even better and it’s the best thing in the world to see you everyday.. to see that gorgeous smile of yours and see you just.. thrive.” at this point he knows he’s rambling, but what did she expect when he said he was bringing her out for a romantic night out? this was to be expected with justice.
“you never have to pretend with me. i’ll always see you for who you really are. always.”

“i smell nice?” he repeats, letting a beat pass before his hand moved to his shirt, pulling it away from his chest so he could actually take a sniff from it. he didn’t smell any different than usual.. same old justice with a mix of some deodorant and cologne from an hour or two ago. the same fragrances he always used.. so nothing was actually different. “i always smell like this.. are you just realising now?” he teases, extending his arms out for the smaller girl to pull her into a hug and essentially trap her. “or is that just an excuse to get closer and get a hug? you know i always have a million and one hugs for you. always. all you need to do is ask.”
