You know, i've thought alot on any possible scenario that would make yashahime better. Which frankly wasn't hard. So i came up with my own version of yashahime. 

It starts with the twins being born as well as moroha. It is the same with the forest fire and everything, except that Kagura is the mother of the children, and the fire is started by a cult of worshipers of the late Naraku. The cult wanted to sacrifice the twins as a way to bring Naraku back to life using an ancient ritual. In order to stop this ritual, Kagome takes Towa into the future so that the cult can never claim both the twins. Setsuna and Moroha stay behind in the feudal era. Kagura is killed by the cult and her soul enters the tree where she can watch over both the twins and guides them on their journey. (this can relate to the butterfly in setsunas dreams)

Sesshomaru goes out to try and hunt down the cult, and spends years doing this so he can bring kagome and his daughter back home. Setsuna and moroha are raised by Inuyasha and sango/miroku. They become demon slayers and setsuna has a mission to find her sister and father. During this, we can have the cult trying to capture setsuna and Moroha.

In the present, kagome raises towa with her brothers help. She goes to school, takes fighting classes, and is pretty much a normal teen, but demons start appearing and kagome has to protect her. It turns out the cult lasted for generations and Naraku has become a sort of legend in the demon underworld. The cult attacks towa and Kagome sacrifices herself to save Towa and send her back to the past. Once she is back in the feudal era, she makes it her mission to stop the cult before they ever reach kagome's timeline, and save her family. 

This leads to the 3 of them teaming up to stop the cult from bringing Naraku back to life and saving their family. This will also explain why sesshomaru was missing for so long and give kagome/inuyasha a kind of conflict and moroha an actual storyline of saving her mother. You can add zero in as a cult leader and what have you. But i just think this would have made such a better story than the one we have now.

i just basically rewatched the entire inuyasha series so i could make an AMV for kagura. The clip when sesshomaru is grieving her death and says, “I, Sesshomaru, will be the one to decide if her death was in vain or not” was really touching for a heartless bastard like him. How sweet and wholesome.
