just read yet another white person say that being white and buddhist is cultural appropriation so please allow me to clarify
anyone can be a buddhist and no buddhist beliefs can be appropriated (unless you’re using them or any of our garments disrespectfully on purpose)
buddhism was meant to be shared with everyone and our goals as buddhists are to spread knowledge and peace to help others and ourselves reach enlightenment
so if you hear about reincarnation and think “oh that’s neat” but you’re Christian/Jewish/Muslim/etc. you are welcome to incorporate our beliefs into yours
gautama buddha taught that people should seek out their own beliefs rather than blindly follow any man or systematic beliefs meaning it’s literally encouraged for you to take the beliefs that you feel represent your understanding of life and death and use them to create your very own relationship with the world and everything/everyone in it
