I don't know if you remember this furby I got off ebay for cheap, whose battery compartment was completely covered in rust..
Well I figured, i could use a battery pack instead, which would add the bonus of being rechargeable. But those do not fit inside the already existing battery compartment.
So... Maybe I could just longify the furby to put a battery pack in his gut ??
So like. A 4 legged furb ?
I figured that those are the cables going to the battery compartment (red is + and grey is - ). I can just snap those off the connectors and then solder the battery pack to it. (And splice a regulator for voltage if needed too. Hell I can even give him an on/off switch for some well deserved peace)
This furby also arrived with the tummy sensor cable snapped (you should be able to plug and unplug the white bit, but its so delicate it snapped). Now I read that this can just be soldered directly but i wonder if I can preserve the sensor to put on the elongated "skin"? So i should wait to solder and see if I need to add some length to that cable. (Splice splice!!)
My other concern would be maintaining the use of that tail pull-switch. I don't know if I can just put a long ribbon through a spine (or a tube??)
Or I could just give him some little wings on that part to pull instead (that will be the base of his neck)
Anyway this is a sketch of the idea. He would have a zip or velcro to open his belly.
A lot of tutorials I found seem very destructive of the original skin. Not sure I want to keep the original but still, i wish it were a bit easier to customise them and most importantly to clean them up.
Ah well.
I am open to suggestions from more experienced furby owners and modders !
Canary's circuitry seems to have half died in a way I finally can't seem to fix (her voice has become weirdly garbled, the app doesn't pick her up and her eye lights go out after 5 minutes, after which she turns off) so I've given her eyes to match her decommissioned brothers. Brick is stuck in the "angry" character because his tail thinks it's constantly being pulled, and I had to sew up shrimps furbussy so I can't get batteries in him without unpicking his stitches.
