My favorite movie, which just happens to be a remake or a re-adaptation, is Little Women, which just came out this past December 2019. Director Greta Gerwig made a point to create her adaptation of the movie differently than the others in many areas. My favorite aspect that Gerwig highlighted was the character development of Amy March. In the book and the previous movie, Amy March was the antagonist of the story and was not a crowd favorite. But through Gerwig’s adaptation, the world met a new version of Amy March and made her a crowd favorite. As I left the theater after seeing Little Women this winter, I found Amy as my favorite character and resonated with her and her story. She became a character with redeeming qualities and was portrayed far more likable than in past adaptations. Additionally, the scene where Amy gives her big speech to Laurie portrayed more current-day women’s rights issues than past adaptations. We are living in such a progressive time where women's rights are at the center of conversations everywhere and I loved the way they embedded more current ideas seamlessly into the film.

In the film The Five Obstructions, they attempt to define the perfect human but quickly display the fact that we all value different characteristics when sculpting our version of the perfect human. Our society would probably agree on many of the same characteristics and traits when sculpting their perfect human, but at the end of the day we are all different people with different wants and needs and that changes the way we each look at perfection.

When thinking about double logic I immediately think of the surplus of apps and websites we have to do the exact same thing and produce nearly identical content. We see editing apps, dating apps, streaming apps, etc. The idea of simplifying life via the internet and the furthering the quality of life, but we are crowding our timelines, our phones and our lives with an excess of options for completing the same tasks.

The air felt eerily quiet as I stood outside of Haggin Hall on that August afternoon. I had just moved into my college dorm and now that I was settled in and situated, it was time for the real hard part. The copious flights of stairs we had climbed earlier that day seemed like nothing compared to the current task at hand - saying goodbye. My family of five stood still outside the big building as families hurriedly buzzed around us with bags from Target and boxes from Bed, Bath and Beyond, not sure what to say or how to act as the eldest child prepared to move away and start a new journey at the University of Kentucky.
No one wanted to make the first move, knowing that once we began our goodbyes there was no stopping this train from leaving the station, that once we said goodbye it all became too real. My dad finally broke the silence and gave me the largest hug I had ever felt, a final familiar embrace before I embark on one of the most unfamiliar journeys of my life. Next, my brother and sister each gave me a hug as I began to tear up thinking about not seeing them the way I had every single day until right now. And finally, it was time to say goodbye to my mom, who held it together the least out of the five of us. Her emotions overcame her which led to a chain reaction of epic proportions. Soon the five of us were sharing an embrace I never wanted to let go of because as soon as they let go, it was time for everything to change.
And as our group of five quickly became a group of four, I had to adapt to this new life in Lexington. As I dried the tears scattered across my cheeks and took the empty elevator up to the third floor of Haggin Hall I approached my hall meeting, a room of unfamiliar faces and unknown names. But after settling in on a couch next to two girls who later introduced themselves as Amy and Lilli, I felt a sense of comfort and friendship, and each day moving forward the transition became easier and easier.

Eyman's biggest takeaway in the reading is that digital rhetoric is less about the creation of a completely new way of thinking about communication and interaction, but of a reconfiguring or revisioning of rhetorical principles, we have always had.
When Eyman says that “digital rhetoric in many ways erodes the distance between rhetor and reader” I immediately think of social media channels, groups, and followings. The emergence of social media platforms and the communities we create or are apart of have made the relationship between users and producers even stronger. The lack of distance between rhetor and reader can be as simple as following your favorite celebrity on Instagram and feeling closer to them than ever before, or as complex as a digital support group, community, or therapy session where you are receiving vital information that impacts your lifestyle. I have always been enthralled by pop culture/entertainment. I love celebrities, fashion, music, and everything else that goes into popular culture. With the emergence of social media and platforms like Instagram and Twitter, we have seen the rise of the Kardashian empire and the introduction of influencer marketing, a completely foreign concept that nearly all brands are now learning about and adopting for publicity. Without social media bridging the gap between the rhetor and the reader or the producer and the user, we would not have this entirely new world of influencer marketing endorsing products to followers, and their products buying them because they feel connected and closer to the influencer or celebrity than ever before.
The relationship has been completely warped and changed, sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse. But it is undeniable that we can have a close and meaningful relationship with the producers, closer than ever before, and that has created an entirely new world via social media and the internet.

To me, digital rhetoric is the creation and sharing of information, content, or bodies of work via digital modes. In today’s day in age, this is typically on the internet somehow. A good example is social media, especially Twitter and Instagram. These two platforms were created specifically for users to share their thoughts and get feedback and interaction from their followers in the form of retweets, likes, or comments. I think the main goal of digital rhetoric is to promote engagement and interaction across communities and groups.

Hello, my name is Katherine Warner, I am a senior at UK! I am studying Integrated Strategic Communication with a focus in PR, with a double minor in Communications and WRD. I am from Connecticut so I’m super far from home, but I love heading home and visiting my family. One of my favorite parts of going home is taking the train into NYC and exploring fun spots in the city (like I was in the picture above)! I’m a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority on campus and have made the best friends ever in that house. I’ve loved my time at UK but I am excited for graduation and the real world. College ending is so bittersweet, I wish I had just a little longer with my best friends here in Lex!
