I was reading fanfiction and I just got hit with the gut punch line of:

“(He) opened one of the cabinets above his bed and took out a ball of green yarn with two blue crochet hooks sticking out of it. He sat on the floor next to his bed with his back leaning against the wall and got to work. He didn’t know what exactly he was making, but the sound of the hooks clicking together and the soft texture of the yarn gave him a familiar serenity he had been missing, and that’s all he cared about.”

No hate to the creator, if you know who it is please leave them in peace, the rest of the fic is very good, but this fucking hurts me deep in my soul.

#my grandma on my mom's side died of lung cancer as a direct result of smoking cigarettes #my grandma on my dad's side is currently facing lung cancer that returned and is now likely terminal #from working in smoker friendly bars and smoking herself #I don't wanna hear any love for cigarettes they do absolutely nothing #I get people smoking weed whatever. but inhaling anything like that will give you adverse effects #and cigarettes don't even give you anything fun like weed does. it just gives you a nicotine addiction #and eats away at your whole mouth and respiratory system #I am 100% a smoking hater and I won't shy away from that

Genuinely, do yall just not have imagination?? Or not understand figurative language??? Also eyes do literally darken and soften have you not lived a life??? How do you read with no imagination? Is this how you get through so many books in one month - you simply don’t take the time the understand the words as they are read?

ok, yes. gōnghé, which is…an abbreviation for “industrial cooperative”? Like it was just a term for a worker-run organization? A specific U.S. marine stationed in China interpreted it as a motivational slogan about teamwork, and as a commander he got his whole battalion using it, and other U.S. marines found those guys so exhausting that it migrated into English slang with the meaning “overly enthusiastic”.
