Race and gender in social media is one of the biggest hot button issues in our society today, especially the topic of “Black Lives Matter.” This photo shows the depth of how “black lives matter” has really effected people. It started out on social media because African Americans felt that their lives are worth less than that of other races. This is an on going issue about race in our society today, especially on social media. It even has its own hashtag #blacklivesmatter. #MCO435

Black and White Twitter. Does there really need to be a difference?
This week, we are learning and discussing a very sensitive topic, race and gender roles in social media. Social media is one of the biggest influencers of our generation. It plays such a role in our society that what we say, what we do, and even how we identify ourselves is influenced by social media. One of the topics this week is the topic of black and white twitter. “White twitter” is the same general twitter we all use everyday. The blue twitter bird is white twitter. However, there is also “black twitter.” Black twitter has its own group of users. Black twitter is a group of “black” twitter users who culturally identify on twitter. They discuss issues of their culture and race on twitter in their own group. This is so sad that this is what we as a society have come to. Two serrate races needing to be serrate on social media. This got to show how powerful social media is today. #MCO435
