UNDERSTANDING RESHADE - a guide by amoebae

This guide aims to give a general overview of what ReShade actually is, and a working understanding of the difference between the ReShade binary, ReShade shaders, and ReShade presets.

Additionally, at the end of the guide you'll find basic installation instructions, information about how to make a backup of ReShade, how to uninstall ReShade, and a few other helpful tips and tricks, including troubleshooting.

I've wanted to make a basic overview like this for a long time. I didn't realise how long the guide would end up! It's text-heavy, no screenshots, no videos.

I initially wanted to write something to solve the problem of people getting confused about the difference between ReShade (the tool) and shaders when they update to a newer version and find their presets might not look quite the same. I quickly realised that required a proper understanding of what ReShade actually is and how its different constituent parts work.

Never one to do things by halves, I got stuck in.

The result is something that hopefully gives a solid grounding in the way ReShade works, so people are better equipped to solve their own problems as they arise.

Set "Dunwall Tower" from Dishonored for The Sims 4. Part 1.

The rotunda and the statue of the Empress are located in the "Decorations" section;

The size of the statue can be changed using a keyboard shortcut at your discretion, as well as placed on various pedestals;

The rotunda is large enough to place furniture in it and do Sims' photoshoots right in it. Please note that you need to enter a special code bb.moveobjects so that you can put other objects directly in the rotunda;

To place objects in the rotunda directly on its surface, raise the objects to a height of 6 clicks;

Unfortunately, Sims can only plausibly stay in the rotunda with the help of package poses raised to the desired height.

Have you gotten the chance to play with For Rent? If so, how do you like it?

For Rent was by far my favourite expansion pack ever. like a dream expansion for me. i spent a full night last week playing with it, making stuff, working on my save for the first time in ages, planning a *second* new-york inspired save...

and then i went and saved my lot as a residential rental, and all of my meticulously TOOL'ed neighborhood decorations decided to delete themselves (photo taken prior to catastrophe)

so now i have a vendetta against For Rent and i am in a state of semi-permanent shock. still partially in denial that it happened

Out of the corner of her eye Zelda could see Giorgio staring off into the distance. They had been working since sunrise, barring any breaks except for when Violette had come to find them. His glassy eyes and slumped shoulders could have been exhaustion, but she knew better.

Usually he was easy to work with, quick to follow her every instruction and constantly amiable despite the grueling tasks. When the day got too long or the soil unrelenting, his positivity could be infectious, and his attempts to keep her hopeful immensely appreciated. But in moments like this, he was unreachable. She knew better than to ask how Jo was; his answer would be the same: silence and a desolate shake of his head. So she walked closer, Gio barely making any attempt to hide his stricken eyes or shaking hands as she reached him. She put her hand on his shoulder in a familiar gesture, “Do you want me to go and check on her again?”

For a moment he seemed to consider it, but then he sighed heavily, “Do you mind if I go in with her for the day? Or I can come back if you still need me…”

“No, Gio. Go with her. Sunset is coming soon and I’m sure Violette will be waiting on me.”

At the mention of Violette’s name Zelda noticed that he flinched visibly before shoving his hands in his pockets and walking toward their cabin. 

The moment that he stepped inside he sank to the floor. He couldn’t tell Zelda why he had offered to come, that he couldn’t stand there thinking about the look of hatred on Violette’s face any longer. He couldn’t even tell her that Jo had begun besieging him not to let any of them into their cabin, not even her. At first it had just been Violette. Please don’t let her see me like this, Gio. Promise me. Make Zelda promise. Keep her out.

He hadn’t wanted to, hadn’t thought that her growing isolation would help her or the child who so clearly needed her; but when it was his fault in the first place what else could he do other than oblige? He thought that maybe she had known better, known what she needed to gather back the pieces of herself. So he had trusted her rather than push her, because at the very least he knew that she was a woman who couldn’t be told what to do. But then it was Antoine, and now, it was Zelda. It was like the more she let Giorgio see her vulnerable, the more she withered away from herself and everyone else, and he didn’t know how to handle this on his own anymore.

When he entered the room she didn’t even rise at the sound like she used to. Instead she stayed facing away from him, staring at the wall. It was enough to make him want to scream, at her, at himself, at every lie he’d ever been told about how this life would come naturally, how perfect it would be as if by its very virtue. Instead he steadied his voice and spoke the one name he hoped could still elicit some sort of reaction from her: “Violette came looking for you again today.”

Silence.

“Jo, you need your family. Your family needs you. You can’t just cut them out when they’re right outside. They can help you, please.”

The desperation of his plea almost worked, because she knew that he was right; but she couldn’t explain just how much she felt like she had lost herself, couldn’t tell him that she no longer had the emotional stamina to take Zelda’s nervous pity or Antoine’s growing panic, or even worse, Violette’s sad childish confusion.

All she could muster was a petty argument, an insult to deflect the blame off of her and onto him. Choice words for a man who abandoned his own family. But how could she say that to him now? He went out day after day taking her family’s ire and concern like a shield while he worked and tried provide for them. She couldn’t argue with him. So instead she answered with silence. Heavy silence cut through by Giorgio’s exhausted sigh. 

The bed creaked as he inched nearer to her and she tightened every muscle in her body, “Could you try and eat tonight, please? I’ll cook whatever you want.”

Both of them knew that it was a hollow offer, one born more from desperate love than the reality of their pantry. Gone were the days where fresh herbs clung to him like cologne, French Market bread lining their shelves and home-made pasta dough setting on the counter. Cook what, Gio? There’s nothing. There’s nothing left. So instead. Silence. 

He brought his hand to hers in one last attempt to rouse her, but she stayed as still as a stone statue, “I love you, Jo.”

And then silence. Silence filled with the words that Giorgio really wanted to speak: And I’m sorry. I’m so goddamn sorry.

WIP - West 70th

1880s-1910s row of Upper West Side townhomes.

Been working on this row of late 19th c. brownstones on and off for the past year now, so needless to say when I heard about For Rent I was hype.

This initially started because I was homesick for NYC during the pandemic. Specifically for the area of the upper west side my dorm was in while I was a student. I mainly blame this experience for my obsession with historical architecture - walking along central park west past the Dakota on the way to the subway, smoking on the stoops of the brownstones late at night, going to classes in the wedding cake that is the Ansonia - it was just everywhere, and so, so beautiful to look at.

Except a lot of it is faded glory - buildings subdivided, details chipped or covered in the thickest coats of grime or paint. So I wanted to replicate some of the old New York from around the turn of the century. The one I read about in the Luxe series and saw in the Samantha movie lol.

The basement or garden level of each four-story brownstone will be dedicated to the original purpose as the main workplace of the service staff. Unfortunately no room for the actual garden, so laundry lines and planters are on the roof. There are bedrooms and bathrooms for a cook and a housekeeper/butler, along with the staff dining and the kitchen. The butler's pantry is directly upstairs from the kitchen, and the top floor is almost exclusively made up of staff bedrooms and washrooms.

I usually do the service areas first because they're the most interesting, and there was nothing more interesting than a full edwardian brownstone kitchen. Lots of exposed piping, beadboard, subway tile, and shelves of clutter. Has a separate scullery, pantry, and stairs down to a basement storeroom to keep your best champs-le-sims nectar in. There's also a servant's bellboard in the kitchen and the staff dining room. It along with the "boiler" system are made with tool and CC-free.

The main entrance and parlor are doing their best to continue the gothic revival theme of the exterior. The library and dining room follow in the enfilade starting in the parlor. Since this first house is a corner lot, it has a bit more width and space than a true brownstone. The only actual brownstone I've been inside of is Lady Mendl's, so ofc I had to have an extensive tea setup. Def took a lot of inspo from these two pics alone for these rooms.

The main stairwell and picture gallery lead to three large bedrooms on the second floor, and then up to the children's room and nanny's bedroom on the third floor. I really like skylights. I learned the importance of decent lightwells in staving off depression one semester when my window looked out onto a brick wall

The master bedroom and the children's room above it both have their own private sitting rooms and bathrooms. All rooms have either fireplaces or cast iron radiators.

There's no way this is going to be finished by the time For Rent comes out, so im just going to release it in whatever state it's in when it does come out. The exteriors and interior room layout for all the townhomes will (hopefully) most likely be set by then anyway.
