When Brian May said that “Queen lost America” after MTV banned the IWTBF mv, that shit hurt me like… bby I’m so sorry for my obese driven, no health care ass, racist white trash, “in God we trust” my ass, yee-haw, shit hole ass country for not respecting your guy’s iconic music
hot take: excusing adopted sibling incest in pop culture because the characters aren’t “actually related” is problematic as hell because it perpetuates the idea that adopted kids aren’t part of the families that they’ve been adopted into
Gerard Way ! Was working for cartoon network, feeling trapped in a cubicle in New York. Saw a terrorist attack and decided life was too short to be unhappy. Wrote skylines and turnstiles and started one of the most important bands of all time.
He spiraled into drinking and drugs, and thought he’d never live past 2004. It’s 2019, he has a family, a career doing what he’s always wanted to do, and the freedom to live how he wants.
That’s a big jump from living in a basement.
And along the way, he inspired so many people? So many! MCR was a voice for women, lgbtq kids, and those with mental illnesses during a time when those communities weren’t welcome in the scene at the time. They got harrassed onstage, mocked by the media, and cast off as a bunch of emos. But they kept making music, and they’re still making art - it just looks a little different now
So thanks gerard way, for letting us know we could be homoerotic, vampires, zone runners, superheroes, and lovers. We can walk unafraid, but we’re never alone
stanning queen and rami doesn’t mean you have to defend borhap. you can enjoy borhap for the acting and the music and still acknowledge that freddie’s sexuality and the overall storyline should’ve been handled way better. most people who criticize the movie aren’t criticizing queen as a band, freddie as a person or rami as an actor. they’re criticizing the storyline, and rightfully so.
