no third option. you must choose

I have seen that “Everything is canon”, post like its some kind “gotcha, this is stupid”-response, and I have balked how dumb some of the takes are.
But then I realised not everyone is as autistically obsessed with warham as I am. And I should take a step outside my own bubble and try to see things from other people's perspectives. Especially people who perhaps do not read much lore, but just enjoys Youtube lore videos or such.
The entire quote is “Everything is canon, not everything is true”.
It was written so armies would have something to fight over in this war game. There were little differences to quarrel over that didn't have a right or wrong side. Even armies who were usually allies could find something to beef over when the usual beef of MacGuffin or land had gone stale.
One of my favourite examples of the “Everything is canon, not everything is true”-rule is how in the Ultramarine codex they say “No Ultramarine has ever fallen to chaos”, while in the Black legion (I believe it was, some chaosy codex anyway) says they have a renegade Ultramarine. Not both of these can be true.
It is up to the players to pick what side you want to belive, both sides have good reasons to lie about this.
So when we say “Lore isn't important, its just fluff”, that doesn't mean we don't care about the lore, it's the fact we have been told since the start that you are allowed to believe what you want, because that makes for a more exciting story.
Finding inconsistencies is not a bug, it is a feature (and it also makes this increadibly vast fictional universe bearable to manage since no one person can realistically keep track of it all).
The Codices are propaganda, plain and simple. The books are told from a perspective, (usually the imperium because humans are relatable I guess 🤷‍♀️)
The unreliable narrator is the core and essence of Warhammer, and if you want to cling to only one true story, you will go insane. For this setting is blessed and ruled by the Changer of Ways.

have you ever been so in love with a fictional character so fucking much you don’t know what to do, so you just spend 37 hours looking every single last detail about that character and cry.

Even easier for me, my faction has... 2 3/4 books!
the worst part of being a lore nerd is that your friends will talk up a storm about their favorite faction and then you want to read that faction's books, but also you already have your own list of books to read...how are you supposed to decide what to read?? where are you supposed to find the time to read them??? are you really going to throw away hundreds of dollars on a zillion warhammer forty kay books???? @tagedeszorns keeps singing the praises of the Fabius Bile trilogy, @ghostinthegallery won't stop talking about Necrons, and now @ladymirdan is vibing hard with Perturabo on my dash. I haven't even finished the Cato Sicarius omnibus. stop it, all of you, stop it.

This is one of the first official artworks of Fabius. And he looks like he wants to speak to the manager ASAP.
This book is so old, there are no digital printing files, all is left are printing films.
This, truly, are the sacred texts.
(and hilariously funny, too)

I'm all for everyone at the beach. Konrad like a gremlin under an umbrella.
I would like an anime Consortium, if only for the "beach" episode

I already drew Fabius and Cesare at the beach.
But not anime-style, of course.
Well, I could do that, though.

The thing I love the most about Perturabo is that he doesn't really hold grudges, despite his temper, his grumpy demeanour and all that, he is waaay to forgiving.
He didnt keep a grudge for his foster brother Andos when Andos beat him in the art competition(despite in his rage destroying the artwork, and his relationship with his brother). And not only that, he openly admitted to other people that Andos was better than him, at art, and as a human and was surprised and disappointed that Andos wasn't named Tyrant after their father's death.
Perturabo forgave Fulgrim for lying to him and almost killing him and stealing his soul. He forgave him enough to fight beside him at Terra. He wasnt happy about it, but he didnt make a fuss.
He has been forgiving Abaddon time and time again and has helped the war effort of the long war
Perturabos reputation as unforgiving and cold is undeserved. Just let the guy mope for 15 minutes and he will bounce back.
I do wonder if he even truly hates Dorn or if he just wants to challenge himself enough to beat him and is too uncharismatic to express himself.

Wish I had some advice for that, but the best I got is "pay attention to when your hand hurts and shake it like heck when that happens," but that's no use to you now. I hope you feel better soon!
I have *checks notes* 5 large paintings to finish this week but my hand hurts like hell, send help. Can’t wait until the holidays which is a period of 3 months in which I do nothing but squeeze my cat

This applies to warhammer as well (and I have been kind of guilty of it too).
There is this reverence for people who have been in the hobby for a long time that is just undeserved. So many of these guys act like they are loremasters just because they have read the same twelve memes over and over again for twenty years.
Im here for the lore, I looooove the stories. And I much rather talk to a noob who has the spirit and passion about 40k than the old bitter dude with nothing interesting to say.
So if you feel like you are a noob and dont really inow much, that is ok. The journey is so much more exciting then getting stuck in the mud and refusing to move :D
Tell me about something you recently found out about 40k, it doesnt matter if its new, just that it was new to you.

The Cities of Sigmar models are so cool. I love this Knights pegleg. There is so much detail, so much character. I know some people say there is too much detail, but I vehemently disagree.
