A classic
some iconic dialogue that sounds like its from the great canon of literature but are actually from memes
I will face God and walk backwards into Hell
“I’ll do whatever you want” “then perish”
I have been through hell and come out singing
feel free to add more!

sorry that its been a week since I’ve replied to your message. I was held captive by the 20 something urge to do both everything and nothing in life.

not to sound traumatized, but it feels unreal that someone can just miss you and want you around so often. I feel like every worry within me keeps repeating, “until when? until when?” and the people I love and that love me confirm, “as long as you’d like.”

Since you referenced Heartstopper, it’s probably safe to assume that you’ve read Radio Silence by Alice Oseman. But it’s a fave so I gotta mention it.
Honey Girl by Morgan Rogers is another really good one, it’s wlw and deals with mental health and being in your early 20s and not knowing how to cope!
And if you’re queer and haven’t engaged with either the original graphic novel OR the musical Fun Home by Alison Bechdel— you should. It’s a memoir written and drawn by the woman for whom the Bechdel test is named— and should be required reading in every literature class ever.
Not a Heartstopper question today exactly, but I LOVE LOVE reading books with good queer rep, especially YA! Please reblog with your favorites!
I’ll start with a few of mine:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe ~ Two Mexican American boys living in El Paso meet at the swimming pool over the summer and forge an intense friendship that slowly turns into something more. I love how subtly the love story creeps up on you! Ari and Dante are more of my sweet fictional boys. Also, the movie should be out worldwide this year sometime! *squees*
The Charm Offensive ~ Basically the author said, I’m going to write about The Bachelor but make it queer af. Dev and Charlie are so sweet, and I love the way mental health is addressed!
Wolfsong ~ Okay so I never thought I’d read, much less enjoy, much less recommend a book about werewolves, but Bookstagram broke me down. And I’m so grateful! One of my favorite books I read last year. It’s a literal page turner, and I’m so obsessed with the world-building and giant found family! Joe Bennett must be protected at all costs. (The bit where he puts on a tux for their first date because he’s literally waited 6 years. I cry 😭)

as someone with a bachelor’s degree in english, i am inexpressibly tired of people telling me to get highly specific jobs that often require highly specific degrees. “just go write for a magazine!” you need a journalism degree for that. “just teach!” you need a teaching certificate, and also fuck you. “just go work at a tutoring place!” tutoring children with learning disabilities, which make up the majority of the clientele at those places, requires not only a teaching certificate but a specialized master’s degree. “just go work at a library!” you need a master’s degree in library science to be a librarian. it is actually a highly skilled and extremely competitive field. you don’t just “go work at a library,” you train for years in the vain hope that you will get one of handful of available jobs. “just go work at a library.” the nerve. the unmitigated gall. “just go work at a library.” ugh.

This has probably already been said before, but I’m rewatching Heartstopper (because ya know) and the bit where Nick wants to hold Charlie’s hand...
Obvs he’s having a sexuality crisis, but there’s also got to be a part of his brain that is thinking about what Ben did to Charlie and knows that Charlie isn’t awake to consent to it and then that ongoing fear he has of being like Ben 😭

My dad was dealing with some mixed feelings so I told him "In therapy when something is too complicated to do a simple 'pro and contra list' we sometimes do an excercise where you imagine all these mixed feelings around a table in some kind of conference, letting each tell their bit and you leading the debate."
and my dad didn't really respond and just stared ahead so I kept preparing lunch. Until a few minutes later when he suddenly piped up: "I am having a bad time at the conference"

Four day work weeks are coming. Every country that tests sees positive results.
Progressive ideas are better for your life. Conservatives would rather you chained to your desk, licking your boss's boots.

i have seen people say that "heartstopper is shit because it is made by an aroace woman". and i get the whole ownvoices thing, it's important that people get to tell their own stories. but pretending that heartstopper is immediatly bad and problematic just because the creator of a story focusing on mlm is an aroace person is just ridiculous. the same happened to the writer of simon vs the homosapiens agenda. she was, first of all, harrassed for 'being straight' and she later came out as bi. but ppl still thought she had no buisiness at all writing about a gay man
a lesbian can write a beautiful and meaningful story about a bisexual man, a trans man can write an acurate story about a nonbinary person. every community deserves to tell their own stories, but just bc sometimes other ppl write stories about them doesn't mean these stories are bad and morally wrong and inaccurate
BUT ON TOP OF THAT the producer (patrick walters) and director (euros lynn) of the show are both gay men (and many other people working behind the scenes are queer as well, it's just a bunch of queer ppl). these gay men got to be in charge of directing and producing the show. these people put their visions on this story. this is not a random person trying to guess what the mlm experience is like. alice really does understand it, and they're now working directly with ppl who have that lived experience
also side note can ppl please stop invalidating alice....i've even seen people saying that they're not even queer and shouldn't be writing any queer stories. i saw one post saying something like "she's just an asexual woman who uses sometimes they/them". alice is queer. aromantic and asexual people are queer. and please stop invalidating they/them pronouns and pretending people use those pronouns just for attention

when lord huron said "what does it mean if it all means nothing" and when the good place said "there is no answer. but eleanor is the answer" and when everything everywhere all at once said "all we get are a few specks of time where any of this actually makes any sense." "then i will cherish those few specks of time" and when phoebe bridgers said "watched the world from the sidelines, had nothing to prove, til you came into my life and gave me something to lose" and when
