((ohmygosh!! Hi! I’m sorry it’s been forever since I logged in here! Between life stuff and low motivation, I was kinda afraid of how (if at all) I was gonna come back, but I got convinced by a friend to give it another shot! I think I need to drop all of my old threads before I start again, but I’ll post a starter call real soon, I promise!!))

Elincia couldn’t help smiling back, espeically as Adelaide called her by name. Was she… yes, she was tearing up a bit. This was such a beautiful moment… and, even more importantly, she had hope now. Hope that a good heart and a strong will could make a fine mother of anyone. Hope that even a woman as busy as she could find time for a child. Hope that… she could have a family. A real one. Something she’d been denied in her own childhood. She gave the knight a gentle nod. “I don’t mind at all, Adelaide. I am much the same… Frankly, after eighteen years hiding my own status, I suspect it will be eighteen more before I’m ever truly comfortable with titles.”
“Hehe, the feeling is mutual, trust me!” Adelaide chuckled, politely covering her lips with her fingertips as she laughed. “When you answer to ‘Lady’ as both a nickname and a title, things tend to get confusing quite quickly!”
Tumblr media
Catching a glance at the tall shadows of the hills cast towards Izumo, the ambassador let out a light sigh. “I suppose we should return soon, so we can draw up the arrangements for Lord Izana’s approval tomorrow. With any luck, you should be able to return home and relax properly before you know it. I... I need to thank you too, though, Elincia. Not only for providing support to the people that need it and entrusting me to handle the rest, but for helping come out of my shell a bit as well. I hadn’t really let down my defenses until you came along. I... I’m going to miss you.”

Luna chuckled weakly. “It really was… heck, some of us were even on the enemy’s side so we had to fight our parents for a battle.” she paused for a moment to remember what happened before. “I probably gave them the most trouble. I made them watch my back so I could get close to someone and convinced him to leave before I helped the others.”
Sighing at the memory she blinked then nodded, giving her the other hand and looked at it. “You’re doing a really great job so far Lady.”
Adelaide dimpled her cheek at the compliment, but tried to play it off so she could focus on her task. ‘What exactly did that crest look like again?’ she thought to herself. ‘Two crescent moons over a four-pointed star. I can make that work!’
Tumblr media
“Oh, I know all about that story,” the Falcon Knight responded. “Holland, right? He and his family built a mill outside of Ylisstol a few years back. When I heard the story for the first time from your mother, I went there to meet them for myself. He and his wife buy grain from the farmlands, while his son and three daughters work the mill. And you know the funny part? One of those daughters is named after you! Holland and his wife never forgot what you did for their family, and I think they wanted to keep you close somehow.”

caraidean:
“Hah. That sounds familiar.” Catria couldn’t help but let out a small laugh at Adelaide’s description of the conflict she was living through - nationalism and secrets? Gods, it was the early days of Macedon’s involvement in the war all over again. The rest of her words made her pause and consider things a bit more carefully - her more cynical nature fading away to let her judge the situation more carefully.
Tumblr media
“You’re right.” She conceded eventually, hand lowering from her chin to rest at her side. “I suppose it doesn’t truly matter what we’re fighting for, as long as we can at least take care of those caught in the crossfire. As far as I’ve gathered, the Askrans have never attacked a civilian target - which is good enough for me, I’m afraid.”
“That isn’t much of a standard,” Adelaide sighed, “but it is one I think most of us here can relate to. The other options here are a Princess who reignited the flames of her father’s terrible war or a King who doesn’t discriminate between soldier and civilian in his quest to destroy everything.”
Tumblr media
The Falcon Knight shook her head. “At the very least, the conflict here is much more black-and-white than the ones you and I have had to deal with... And much less dreary. Festivals from all across the history of our world converge here, there are events that happen on a regular basis, and so many people to meet. I could imagine some of the Heroes here forgetting that we’re in the midst of a war entirely.”

caraidean:
“Relax, Adelaide. I’m not that upset.” Cynthia said gently, resting a hand on her cousin’s shoulder for a few moments. She bit her lip, not sure of what else to say at the moment - eventually pulling her hand away with a shrug.
“Stronger? I guess.” Cynthia stared off into the distance for a moment, brow furrowing. “I don’t know. I think…I’m pretty sure mini-me’s going to be a lot stronger. If she gets her real training, gets to hang around with people who can make her right, then she’ll come out better than me. I fly off the handle, improvise, have…uh, some issues with authority sometimes, I’ll admit that. Seriously, ask Robin about how I acted up during his briefings sometimes, I’d run off without listening to the rest of them when we got to my part…”
Tumblr media
“You don’t need my kind of life to be strong, Adelaide. You just need to have some kind of faith in yourself. You’ll get there.”
“I... You’re right, Cynthia,” she replied with a defeated sigh. “I really should have more faith in myself. Going on a grand quest or accomplishing something of note might be nice, but I shouldn’t have to rely on things like that to validate my place in the world. I’m a princess, a knight, and a diplomat-in-training. That’s enough, isn’t it?”
Tumblr media
With a half-hearted chuckle, Adelaide shrugged her shoulders and put her book aside. “So, what was it my father asked you to get me for? Are mother’s headaches acting up again or is there a recruit that needs straightening out?”

lightofcrimea:
Elincia nodded, feeling a tension lift from the air at finally having everything out in the open. She stayed where she was, feeling like the knight needed the hug as much as she herself did, and smiled as she looked over the ocean. “I… Adelaide, I assure you… I am the last person you need to feel bad about keeping that sort of secret from. I was… overly curious, but I understand. After all, I had to hide my parentage as well, until… well, I’m sure you’ve read the histories.” She sighed. “But yes, it helps a great deal. You are so much more capable, and praiseworthy, than you believe. I would be proud to call you my own daughter. And knowing what your parents faced… I feel I owe it to them, and to you, as a friend and comrade, to try my hardest for love as well.” She finally stepped back, blushing at how… sappy she’d gotten. “So… thank you, Adelaide. Truly. For everything.”
To try my hardest for love as well. The line itself was enough to set Adelaide’s heart aflutter. It was just like the pivotal chapter in a fairy tale romance. Elincia would return home and live out the happy ending she deserved. And Adelaide... perhaps she had been a part of that. The idea of it filled the young ambassador with inspiration and excitement. It was largely her friend’s sake, but perhaps a little of it was for what lay in her own future. She couldn’t quite tell, but she wasn’t about to go spoiling the moment again.
Tumblr media
“It’s the very least I could have done,” Adelaide responded, turning around to offer the Queen a very warm smile. “For a sister knight and for a dear friend like you, Elincia.” Averting her gaze for a tiny moment, the princess brushed a lock of hair behind her ear before looking back at her friend. “I... I hope you don’t mind me dropping the titles. Mother never cared for them, especially when talking to those she thought well of. Now that the truth’s out, I don’t see the need for them between the two of us, don’t you think?”

“If it’s that much of a burden, then maybe I shouldn’t go back home.” she sighed, almost knowing how that felt. “….but I guess you’re right about that… I could go back home to visit at least, then go off traveling around. At least I’ll still be around to tell some stories, maybe meet up once in awhile. It’ll be weird seeing yourself, well younger self, every day.” Luna chuckled weakly at that, just thinking about it gave her a weird feeling. “Probably not as weird seeing your parents about your age though.”
“Oh goodness! I can’t even begin to image how strange that must have been for you!” the ambassador replied with a light laugh before rubbing her arm in embarrassment. “...Well, maybe I have imagined it, but I don’t think I could ever dream of living it in person. Why, you and the others met your parents before you were even born! That must have been some kind of experience.”
Tumblr media
Shaking her head and trying to put it behind her for both their sakes, Adelaide finished the last of Severa’s nails and reached for the second bottle of polish. “Alright, let me see if the first hand’s dry please. I’d like to see how well I can do the Nohrian royal crest.”

“Heh. I’m sure between the group of us we can educate the designer a little better.” Catria chuckled alongside her, glad to see the woman’s demeanor break in a more casual way than hero worship had been. The change of subject made her face harden, glancing around as slight weariness set in over her shoulders.
Tumblr media
“I’ve been in so many wars.” She said in an almost defeated tone. “Twice in my home continent, once abroad. I’ve seen so many comrades die, or retire like Palla and Queen Minerva, or flee the continent to try and start their life again like Est. All of this, a gathering…I don’t see heroes fighting some noble goal, Adelaide. I see the Askrans trying to build a collection of weapons to use against some foe, and I’m concerned as to what kind of opponent we could be facing to need such people.”
She fell quiet again, pausing in her footsteps and glancing out a window at the training yard. Was that…? Marth, sparring with one of his descendants. Even Falchion had changed over the years, and it made her anxious. “I’m worried, Adelaide. When you’ve been through as many conflicts as I have, you start to pick up a…sense for these kind of things, I suppose. I know King Marth is feeling it as well. Either we’re all underestimating Veronica’s forces, or there’s something else at work here…I don’t believe Alfonse, or Commander Anna, or Sharena, or even the Summoner are telling us the whole truth about this affair.”
“I... don’t believe you’re wrong,” Adelaide replied, briefly looking down at her feet. “Before I was summoned and before I was freed from Princess Veronica’s contract, the conflict I was trying to bring an end to was so heavily mired in secrets. The cause of the war, the true enemy... the real scope and size of the fighting. All those and so much more were shrouded in a sinister veil of secrecy, and covered up by the people’s fear, anger, and nationalism. I had to navigate it all to try to find a path forward, but once I began to see the full picture, I realized how pointless my struggle was. I couldn’t make a difference in the war, no matter how hard I cared to try. There was only one person who could, and it wasn’t me.”
Tumblr media
She cleared her throat and looked back up at Catria. “But that wasn’t any reason to give up. There were still people caught in the middle of the fighting, and a difference to be made on a smaller scale. I think the same applies here. Ordinary, innocent people are getting caught in the crossfire here, and we’re the ones with the power to do something about it. Whether we know the whole story or not, I think it’s our duty as Heroes to make a difference as we can and worry about the more important things as they arise. At least... well, that’s how the knight in me sees things. Wouldn’t you agree?”

“Ripples?” What was she talking about? Luna looked at her fingers, admiring how well the other painted her nails and dipped them into the ice water in case she needed to attend to some chores later.
“Maybe join another war and serve another royal to bring world peace again.” she chuckled weakly, hoping that wasn’t the case. “I… wouldn’t really know. I mean I don’t want to get in the way of mother and… little Severa. I grew up in my mother’s shadow. I don’t need little me to grow up in mines you know?”
Tumblr media
“...I do,” Adelaide answered quietly, briefly pausing in the middle of her painting. “...And I don’t... Knowing a bit about their future selves has been something of a burden for my friends back at home... but it’s also been a great comfort for them as well. Severa and all the others know what they’re capable of, and the world we’ve grown up in has nurtured them to aim even higher. I think if you were to return and find some peace of your own, you’d set an important example for all of them to aspire to.”

“Oh… oho. Ohoho! Ahahahahaha!” Elincia couldn’t help it, her first reaction was to laugh, though she gave Adelaide an apologetic smile after. “Aha… haha… I-I’m sorry. I know I shouldn’t laugh, but… Just, you described them so perfectly… and the mental image of them having to deal with young Chrom and Lissa…”
She nodded, wiping away a few tears. “But… I’ll confess, I’d had my suspicions. You remind me of your mother sometimes, and… well, you were obviously hiding some kind of noble blood. Emmeryn and Lissa were the only highborn women I think Frederick would ever open up to, so… Well. I thank you for trusting me with your secret.”
She walked up to hug Adelaide, her smile grateful now. “But thank you. You’re right. Emmeryn faced struggles quite similar to mine before her fall… and you are proof that even after it, even without her memories of Chrom and Lissa, she could make things work again. If she could raise such a wonderful daughter… then I’m sure Lucia and I can succeed as well.”
Adelaide didn’t turn from the horizon when she heard Elincia laughing. She couldn’t blame her. Her parents were quite the pair, and the image of her uncle and aunt following after them like a couple of ducklings was pretty funny.
Even still, Adelaide felt a bit embarrassed. More than that. She felt humiliated and conflicted. Had she made the right choice in telling Elincia after keeping her guard up for so long? Or perhaps she should have told her sooner? No, then her secret might have been compromised. Maybe it was best to--
“M-Muh?” Feeling the Queen suddenly hug her from behind, Adelaide jolted back to attention. Between that and being compared to her mother, the young ambassador didn’t quite know how to react!
Tumblr media
“That’s... really kind of you to say, Queen Elincia,” she sighed, patting the Queen’s hand and easing up a bit. Being hugged out of the blue was okay, but the praise was a little much. “Though I’m hardly so special. I’ve felt bad about having to keep my parentage from you since we first met, so I hoped to make it up to you in little ways. Every time I tried, though, my own insecurities got the better of me and I’d make a mess of things. The tea ceremony, the feast, the hot springs... I really am something else!
But you never stopped believing in me, did you? I noticed that, and it’s meant a lot to me. So, when you said you doubted the kind of future you’d be able to make for yourself... well, I couldn’t let that stand. I suppose telling you the truth here and now was my last chance to get it right... Are you sure it really helps?”

((Wow! Hi, everyone! I’m super sorry I’ve been gone for so long without any explanation. I’ve been trying really hard to get this journalist position at my job, and it’s been kinda back and forth. I got an email on Friday saying that I can either apply for it now and cover smaller stories to build my resume or wait until I finish my Master’s to cover the stuff I wanna cover, so I guess I’m gonna wait for another year or two.
Anyways, I’m gonna get back to my threads on this blog and on Emm, so look forward to that! nwn;; Thanks so much for sticking with me, everyone!))

“I see.” Catria said after a few moments, pondering it. It was strange that she’d apparently chosen the life of a diplomat yet managed to avoid the kinds of extravagant outfits the lifestyle normally brought with it, which was either a testament to her skill as a talker or perhaps just a sign of some personal preference. Perhaps she was even just shy about it?
Tumblr media
“I understand.” She said eventually, nodding. She really could understand the reluctance to dress in such a fashion, particularly after the last few weeks - she shuddered a little at the thought. Gods, such a thing, and in front of him to top it all off… “Perhaps whoever designed the damn uniforms will show up here too at some point, hm? I’m sure there’s more than just the two of us who would like to have words with them about their choices.”
“Hehe, indeed! Our uniforms do have quite a bit of history behind them,” Adelaide chuckled. When she thought about all of the poor Pegasus Knights who had come before her, she had to wonder what kept that silly tradition alive through so many kingdoms and ages.
Tumblr media
“Say, Catria: I don’t mean to change the subject, but may I ask...” She hesitated a bit, but quickly got a handle on her courage. “What do you make of all of this? The Order of Heroes, the war going on here, people from all sides of every conflict in history fighting together... it’s all very odd, isn’t it?”

princess--cynthia:
“I wouldn’t describe my ‘world of experience’ as a good thing.” Cynthia grumbled, her voice turning a little sour. Truth be told, Adelaide’s words about the time she had come from always irritated her a little. She could understand the poor girl feeling left out given she hadn’t existed in their time, but Cynthia believed her cousin should just consider herself lucky to have avoided the future and upbringing they had. “Settling down was more - getting rid of some of that experience, really. For the better.”
She shook her head frantically, forcing the thoughts out of her head and nodding eventually. “I get what you mean, though. But at the same time, it’s silly to expect all relationships to work out immediately. I still think you should get out there, have a couple of flings, mess around a bit. You’re young! Have some fun, Adelaide, let me live vicariously through you!”
That last bit had been a joke, accompanied by her elbow bumping up against Adelaide’s arm just to make sure she knew it was. “Relax.”
"I... Oh, I suppose I really should, shouldn’t I?” the princess conceded with a sigh, before hastily correcting herself. “About relaxing, I mean! Going out and having flings really isn’t me...”
Realizing how silly she sounded, Adelaide laughed at herself again. Cynthia really did know how to make her feel a little better while pushing all her buttons! But when she thought back on what her cousin said... about putting the past behind her... the princess recognized that she herself may have crossed a line.
Tumblr media
“Though, to be serious for a second: I’m sorry, Cynthia,” Adelaide apologized. “I never meant to romanticize what you and the others went through, and I can tell it wears on you from time to time when I bring it up the way I do. There isn’t anything romantic or glorious about it at all, but you have to know you’re stronger for it. Seeing you and how strong and happy you are in your life is... well, it’s always inspired me. I never meant to sound pretentious about it.”

nohrianscumcollection:
Irene let out a shaky chuckle. “If you insist. Don’t worry; I won’t argue with you there.” With how much everything was starting to ache, she was more than happy to allow the Falcon Knight to heal her at this point.
Tumblr media
“Although, I do hope you’ll at least allow me to pay you back for your help. I was worried that you weren’t going to make it out on time, but what I did was no less life-threatening than you.”
Compared to when she was fighting earlier, she had a completely different demeanour. All traces of bloodlust and excitement gone, she’d somehow managed to calm down considerably. Maybe it was the fatigue after fighting so much, or it was the pain…
Though as she was allowing Adelaide to heal her, her eyes trailed to her comrades.
“But I fear the battle is not quite over. At least, not for me just yet.” Turning to smile at Adelaide, she continued, “I usually don’t like to owe someone so much right off the bat, but… would you mind helping me keep a low profile? My captain will have my head on a pike after disobeying her orders, and I’d rather lose my hearing a little later rather than any time soon.”
As soon as the Wyvern Lord consented, Adelaide got right to work. She wasn’t sure if the young woman wanted her wounds totally healed, but focused as much magic as she could manage to mend them seamlessly. The injuries ranged in depth and severity, and Adelaide had to wonder how she was able to stand after taking them all. She was so ferocious earlier, but now? It was like she was a completely different person. Her voice was calm and soothing, and she was so well-mannered.
Perhaps it was the pain talking? Or perhaps this was just how she was outside of battle? Whatever the case, Adelaide knew that her work wouldn’t be done until she saw everyone in the town to safety... including this unusual warrior.
Tumblr media
“Hehe, consider it done,” she replied warmly, “I wouldn’t heal your wounds just to leave you to the wolves, especially after how hard you just fought! May I ask your name, milady, so I can know just who I’m covering for?”

Going home.. she’s was determined to go home after the war was over, but after thinking about it, on her own, was it still worth it? Shaking that thought out of her head, she had to go home. They didn’t belong in Nohr after all. Not even in this world.
“Lady, really, you give me too much credit.” she blushed lightly, liking the praise, but it felt a little.. weird. She wasn’t that used to genuine sounding praises. “Maybe.. a wandering mercenary that can do everything…” Luna liked the thought of that.
Tumblr media
“I’m serious, Luna,” the ambassador responded, finishing up one hand and moving onto the next. “You’ve seen the kinds of ripples a person’s life can make. You and the others found your parents, helped win a war, and saved the world. And you’re doing the last two all over again here. It makes me wonder what changes you’ll make when you return.”

princess--cynthia:
“I wasn’t harassing you. I was being playfully teasing.” Cynthia joked, batting Adelaide lightly on the shoulder as she pouted at her. She joined the girl in her laughs, shaking her head and slowly guiding her out of the room with a roll of her eyes. “Geez, grow a thicker skin. It’s like living with a - I don’t know, someone with thin skin, I can’t think of anything right now.”
She glanced back at the room, raising an eyebrow. “I don’t know about laying off the books, Adelaide. Sure, maybe they’re not good for your self-esteem, but maybe at the same time it’s really helping your imagination. You sure seemed to be imagining pretty vividly when I showed up - and look at me! Trust me, a good imagination only leads to good things.”
Tumblr media
This sage advice may have been better received if it was delivered by someone other than a girl obsessed with heroes and fairy tales to an almost comical degree, but Cynthia seemed completely lacking in the self-awareness such a statement would need to stay true for that moment. “Look, if you’re that beat up about never finding anyone, let me help you. Or if you refuse to have anything to do with me and my choice of men at all, spend some time with Haley again - maybe she can even come up with a different uniform to fix that ‘knight in a short skirt’ problem.”
Adelaide rolled her eyes at Cynthia, unable to keep herself from smiling. As if the teasing wasn’t bad enough, she was now being accused of being unimaginative... or overly-imaginative. She wasn’t entirely sure. Or perhaps her cousin was implying that she was developing a different kind of imagination. Whatever the case, she thanked her lucky stars that her father sent Cynthia up to get her instead of coming up himself. Gods, what would he have thought?
Tumblr media
“I appreciate the offer, Cynthia, but... ehehe, well, I think I’m better off taking my chances,” Adelaide chuckled. “Besides, I think I want to find myself before I start trying to look for someone else. You, your parents, my parents... you all had a world of experience behind you before you settled down. I’m beginning to believe that if I managed to go and actually accomplish something, I’d feel good enough about myself to put these silly feelings behind me. That makes sense, doesn’t it?”
