The painting is an assemble. The foreground depicts a white lily in a glasshouse at The painting is an assemble. The foreground depicts a white ginger lily in a glasshouse at Kew Gardens in London. The background is Sydney Harbour cliffs, ocean and sky. The image relates to the story of the glass church which travels on water in Peter Carey's novel, 'Oscar and Lucinda'. The glass structure goes by sea, up the coast from Sydney and then by river inland to Bellingen - its delicate cargo of lilies imagined here.

This piece is based on Clifton Gardens Reserve which is situated on the Sydney harbour foreshore. The site is surrounded by green bushland. Deep shadows are cast by the suburb of Mosman that looms over the park from above. Mosman Rugby Oval is located to the west. It is a unique and nostalgic place for outdoor gathering with an ambience cultivated by both natural and manmade elements.
