the desire to be the kicked dog may not be so much about the kicking but its significance, i.e. that i serve any necessary function to my owner no matter how cruel and cathartic, and that i am thus an indispensable treasure either in my inability to break or my ability to break and yet perpetually return at the sound of your call. in this way you may absolve yourself of the violence you commit by reimagining it not just as merciful, but as productive; if i am the kicked dog, then you create me and give me life through violence, with the act of kicking not a destruction so much as a form of birth. anyways it's fine. put the boots on

Resources For Writing Deaf, Mute, or Blind Characters
Despite the fact that I am not deaf, mute, or blind myself, one of the most common questions I receive is how to portray characters with these disabilities in fiction.
As such, I’ve compiled the resources I’ve accumulated (from real life deaf, mute, or blind people) into a handy masterlist.
Deaf Characters:
Deaf characters masterpost
Deaf dialogue thread
Dialogue with signing characters (also applies to mute characters.)
A deaf author’s advice on deaf characters
Dialogue between deaf characters
Mute Characters
Life as a Mute
My Silent Summer:  Life as a Mute
What It’s Like Being Mute
21 People Reveal What It’s Really Like To Be Mute
I am a 20 year old Mute, ask me anything at all!
Blind Characters:
The 33 Worst Mistakes Writers Make About Blind Characters.
@referenceforwriters masterpost of resources for writing/playing blind characters.
The youtube channel of the wonderful Tommy Edison, a man blind from birth with great insight into the depiction of blind people and their lives.
An Absolute Write thread on the depiction of blind characters, with lots of different viewpoints and some great tips.
And finally, this short, handy masterpost of resources for writing blind characters.
Characters Who Are Blind in One Eye
4 Ways Life Looks Shockingly Different With One Eye
Learning to Live With One Eye
Adapting to the Loss of an Eye
Adapting to Eye Loss and Monocular Vision

If you have any more resources to add, let me know!  I’ll be adding to this post as I find more resources.
I hope this helps, and happy writing!  <3

Sending my unconditional love to addicts and people with horrible compulsions and people who are suicidal and everyone who feels utterly alone and all the psychotic people who society disdains and the homeless and people who feel lost and everyone who doesn't want to get better and people seeking vindication and people who can't let go and people who are undesired. I love you all so much.

second favorite part of 2005 pride and prejudice is when lizzy tells darcy that lydia ran off with wickham and he’s like “can i help” and she’s like “no” and he’s like “then i have to go do something unrelated immediately” and she totally falls for it

So I've been learning French for a while and 'faire' is actually an incredible word. Like what a fucking breakthrough in economy of language.
Faire is a verb that is usually translated into English as "to do/to make," but it covers way more actions than that, which is very confusing for new speakers. because (I have realized) that's not really what faire means.
Faire is actually a word that just gestures vaguely in the direction of the object of the sentence and goes "you know." "Je fais du velo." "Je fais du courses." "Je fais mes valises." I'm biking. I go grocery shopping. I'm packing my bags. You're just sort of pointing at a bike and going "you know, the obvious thing you'd do with it."
English: "You mean RIDE it??"
French: "Sure whatever."
Like idk I just really enjoy the concept of a catch-all verb that you can just slap onto almost anything because who fucking gives a shit, you get the idea. There's a bike. what do you think I'm going to do with it.
