i have this headcanon that tobias didn't really have many (if any) friends prior to his transfer to dauntless because every time he got close to someone it just got too difficult with his situation at home. marcus didn't want him bringing people home and eventually his "friends" sort of just drifted away because they could never fully understand what was going on with him, so he kind of just became a closed door.
