for the uninformed: google translate is NOT good at translating arabic, not even modern standard arabic (which is what is used in formal contexts and thus what google's best at). it's pretty fucking helpless at translating dialects, e.g., palestinian dialect.
so if you chucklefucks could please keep that in mind next time you feel the need to enter an arabic speaker's inbox and say "google translate says something different than your translation," that would be fantastic.

Not to be dramatic, but Haiti hasn’t had a presidential election since our last president was assassinated in 2021. We haven’t had a proper government for 3 years. The U.S. has been dragging their feet convicting people for the murder and much of the case has been classified.
The U.S. has a history of overthrowing our democratically elected leaders in favor of a U.S. backed puppet, and that puppet is our Prime Minister, Ariel Henry, who has done next to nothing to support the people; he’s only there to prop up the international board of leaders in Haiti that only hold the interests American banks in relation to the country.
With Aristide in the early 2000’s, we were supposed to have a government that was elected by the people for the people; a president who demanded that the U.S. give Haiti reparations but the U.S. had him overthrown to protect their interests.
All we want is the power to govern ourselves, and choose our own leaders who actually put the country first and not American banks. We’re tired. We’re angry.
And we see what’s going on in Palestine and we weep because we see the pattern. America is nothing if not predictable.
A free Palestine is a free Haiti is a free Sudan is a free DR Congo.

Raindove is still fundraising to get as many people out of Rafah as quickly as possible while the tanks are encroaching on Rafah. The terrorist zionist forces are going to try to do as much damage as possible. They're about 3k away from their initial goal. They don't have much more time. They've already done so much to help Ghazzawiyeh, they can do more with your help.

spotted this sticker outside my apartment building and I think it illustrates an important point about the moment we’re in.
on a surface level this is something that a lot of people who consider themselves antizionist would agree with. but take 10 seconds to google the url at the bottom and you’ll see that this is a sticker for a neo-Nazi group.
“We serve one nation” is a reference to the dual loyalty trope, the idea that Jews can never be loyal to America because they are first and foremost loyal to Israel.
There are a lot of hate groups taking advantage of the moment we’re in. It’s easy to replace “Jew” with “Zionist” and get a lot more people to agree with them. Do not fall for it.

It's not because he cares about Palestinians (cutting UNRWA funds, because of confessions obtained through torture, should tell you otherwise), it's because he doesn't have a large stockpile of weapons to send.

I need everyone to understand that even as Palestinians, with everything that we grew up witnessing and learning about, some of what we've been seeing unfold in Gaza is still too horrific for us to bear or wrap our heads around

In light of canada maintaining its position in support of israel as well as the purposefully complicated and intrusive screening process of their temporary residential visa for Palestinian refugees programme, CALL YOUR MAYORS AND MPs TO DEMAND A CEASEFIRE using these easy tools:
Step 1: use this website to find your MP and mayor based on your zipcode, this should give you their email or office phone number
Step 2: use the following talking points while calling or emailing, copied from this website, which has a feature that automatically calls your MP by your inputted zipcode right on the petition site!
My name is [YOUR NAME HERE], I’m a constituent, and I am calling because there is a humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza. Since Hamas’s deadly attack on Israeli civilians on October 7th, the Israeli military has killed over 16,000 Palestinians – 40% of whom are children. This strategy of collective punishment is a war crime. I call on you to join a growing number of MPs who have signed on to an open letter demanding Canada advocate for an immediate and lasting ceasefire.

In order to show my support for palestine, I thought I would make a post— in typical bird nerd fashion— highlighting some information about one of the many symbols of freedom for the palestinian people: the palestine sunbird.
you’ve seen this bird everywhere lately I’m sure,
so, you may be wondering.. why is this bird so important?
Tumblr media
In 2013, Israel campaigned to remove ‘palestine’ from the bird’s name. this failed, however, when the palestine wildlife society (PWS) petitioned to instead adopt it as palestine’s national bird as a direct defiance of the campaign.
in 2015, the palestine sunbird was officially declared the national bird of palestine.
the palestinian artist khaled jarrar designed a border control stamp featuring the sunbird with which he stamped passports as a cry for freedom.
Tumblr media
more recently, khaled jarrar has also created these postal stamps for the same message— in defiance of israel’s efforts to erase palestine.
Tumblr media
here you can find an incredible, short documentary detailing his work across the years to use his art as a protest against the plight of the palestinian people.
Tumblr media
another palestinian artist, rasha eleyan, uses the sunbird in her work as a motif for the strength and boldness of palestinian women:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(source)
the palestinian poet tamim al-barghouti has tied the palestine sunbird’s beauty to resilience, in saying: “whenever you face injustice or roughness, remember to defend yourself by finding beauty… document, prove, and defend it because all beauty is resistance.”
the palestine sunbird is a symbol of hope and strength. It’s a symbol of fighting back against the odds and refusal to go quietly into the night— refusal to be erased.
continue to support palestinian artists.
continue to support palestine.
raise the voices of those who now, more than ever, need to be heard.
from the river to the sea, palestine will be free.

I know you have all probably seen the esims for gaza posts circulating. Some of you have probably looked at them and thought maybe you should help out, but have weighed up the daunting process of signing up for something you're unfamiliar with vs. the gut-wrenching scale of the things people are going through on the ground right now, and you've put it off or questioned whether it will make enough of a difference vs. some other future kind of activism you could put that $6+ towards. I'm not calling you out or scolding you, it is natural to feel conflicted and ambivalent about the multiple calls for aid that you are seeing on social media.
but consider this: what would you do if you suddenly had to leave your home? how would you cope? how would you begin to plan where to go next, or figure out what to do to take care of yourself? most likely you would reach reflexively for your phone.
telecoms access is not a petty luxury in 2024. a loaded esim means the ability to call family members and find out where they are and whether they're safe, and whether they need anything you can provide for them. it means access to maps and regular updates on the situation unfolding around you. it means you can look up whether it's safe to drink rain water, or how to tie a type of knot you've never had to think about before, or how to treat an injury without medical supplies. it means the ability to tell people outside the situation what you are seeing, what you are feeling, what you are thinking. it is an absolutely crucial resource. and it starts at $6 for 7 days.
many many people have observed that internet access is changing the way the world understands genocide. internet access is life or death, and it is shaping modern history in front of you. and it starts at $6 for 7 days.
please, please visit gazaesims.com and spend 5 minutes and $6 to change the way this plays out for everyone.
