I have observed anti-shippers on TikTok who promote the phrase, "Art should comfort the disturbed, and disturb the comfortable."

BUT THEN, they become diabolically upset when pro-shippers/com-shippers voice their opinions about reading fiction that help detangle the trauma they experienced (which btw, is also therapist-endorsed).

Ok, here's what I don't get about antis.

As humans, we:

Don't eat food we don't like

Don't drink drinks we don't like

Don't do hobbies we don't like

Don't watch shows we don't like

BUT, when an anti sees a proship/comship/etc post about something they don't like, they make the choice to interact when it clearly says not to, and treat the post like it was a personal attack on them?

People... Grow up.

If you don't like something you see, that's fine! You can have your own opinion, you don't have to like it. But when you tell others to off themselves then that's when you've earned either the "disgusting person" label, or the "immature asswipe" label. Probably both if you're sobbing over something that doesn't concern you and start threatening people.

You're the reason people can't be themselves in fear of getting attacked!

“this ship is not canon” babe, they’re fictional characters. they’re not real. they’re literally dolls we play with. we don’t care about whether or not these fictional characters’ love story is canon in this piece of media that is also entirely based on fiction. I mean, sure, canon would be lovely, but it’s a bonus. it’s not necessary. what we care about is the fun of talking about these 2 idiots being in love.

Obviously taboo topics can and should be defended with the logic that just because you’re writing something dark doesn’t mean you condone or are into it, but I sometimes feel like those who are writing or drawing something for horny reasons are lesser or forgotten.

Its actually also fine to write/draw incest or noncon because it turns you on. It doesn’t just have to be for plot reasons, or obviously depicted as a negative thing. You’re allowed to have fetishes and kinks that are fucked up, and express them in the safe space that is fiction.

Fiction always has been and always will be a safe space to explore dark topics, for everyone.
