Keep Warm With These Tips For Holiday Heating
1. Eliminate Air Drafts: Seal Gaps & Cracks
Your heating system will not only work harder if there are gaps or cracks but the heat will be wasted because warm air will escape from your home. Take some time to inspect walls, windows, and exterior doors. If there are any cracks or holes that need repair, get some weather stripping or caulking to fix the problem. Getting help from an expert can also be a great idea. They will have advanced tools to find leaks and will be able to help you significantly reduce energy bills by increasing the energy efficiency of your heating system.

2. Improve Indoor Air Quality: Put In A Clean Air Filter
A furnace’s air filter is designed to protect it from damage caused by dust and dirt. With an air filter in place, your furnace can deliver warm air through your house. However, air filters don’t last forever and with time, they get dirty and clogged. If it’s been some time since you’ve changed your filters, now might be a good time to check them. Look to see if the surface of the filter is dirty because this can impede proper airflow. A new, clean filter can help your furnace run at its best, while improving indoor air quality.
3. Enhance Energy Efficiency: Install A Programmable Thermostat
Depending on what you’re doing, the indoor temperature that is comfortable can change. It’s not unusual for people to simply make a manual adjustment to their thermostat settings based on their changing needs. However, many people are turning to the simplicity of a programmable thermostat. This kind of thermostat can adjust automatically depending on your specific needs throughout the day. It’s more reliable than changing the thermostat manually. With a programmable thermostat, you can concentrate on other tasks, like entertaining guests or preparing food.
4. Ensure Comfort: Schedule Maintenance For Your HVAC System
Take steps to make sure your home’s heating system is ready to handle cold winter temperatures. Schedule a maintenance service with a local heating and cooling contractor. They’ll be able to provide a complete furnace inspection as well as an inspection of ductwork and air vents. They’ve been trained to spot potential issues so they can be fixed before they develop into larger problems. An HVAC professional can clean your system and remove any hazards from the area. Regular maintenance service can prevent expensive repairs. Additionally, this type of service will keep your system operating at peak performance. A tune-up for your heating system can improve the comfort of your home while also reducing energy costs.

5. Endless Hot Water: Switch to a Tankless Water Heater
When guests come for the holidays, some might be staying at your house. This is especially true if you have family that will be traveling a long distance. Of course, you’ll want to make sure that everyone will have the hot water they need for a shower. Your hot water heater might not be up to the sudden demand this type of situation can create. Now’s the time to consider having a tankless water heater installed so you get hot water on demand, whenever you need it.

6. Improve Heating Performance: HVAC Zoning Systems
Guests who will be staying in your home will certainly need a warm room to sleep in. Does your HVAC system provide uniform heat throughout your home? Have you noticed areas that seem a bit colder than other areas? Maybe you’d like to have more flexibility to meet the temperature needs of various guests. This can all be accomplished by having a zoning system set up with help from your local HVAC expert. Your HVAC contractor will work with you to keep your zoning transition on budget and get the zones set before your guests arrive.

7. Don’t Block Vents: Keep Air Vents Clear
Have you noticed a sudden and unexpected drop in temperature in your home? Perhaps you’ve recently moved some furniture around, check to make sure there are no vents that are blocked. It could be a cabinet, table, chair, or curtains blocking airflow from the vent. This little oversight can prevent warm air from reaching certain rooms. Make sure there’s a little distance between your furniture and wall vents, that might make a difference. It’s a simple fix for a common problem.
8. Be Safe: Space Heaters
If you’re still noticing rooms that are colder than others, consider using a space heater. These heaters can quickly heat up any room. Of course, you need to always exercise caution when using a space heater because they require quite a bit of power. They’re also a potential fire hazard, so any flammable items must be kept away from the heater. For safety purposes, a space heater requires constant attention. Turn the heater off any time you’ll be going to sleep or leaving the room.
youtube
9. Think About Airflow: Switch Your Ceiling Fans To Reverse
Cold air drops and warm air rises. This can be useful during hot summer months when you want to keep your home cool. However, it’s not helpful in the winter when you want that warm air down where you can feel it. You can easily use your ceiling fans to push the warm air back down where you need it. Simply set the fan to spin in a clockwise direction. It’s an easy way to keep your home warmer without the expense you’ll face if you set your thermostat higher.
Conclusion
It doesn’t have to be expensive to create a warm environment in your home. The strategies discussed above are easy to implement. They will help prevent an HVAC emergency while you are focused on the holidays. Professional help from an HVAC contractor is also available should you need it. Also, don’t forget to order fuel when your tank is about 30% full. This way, you don’t run out while you have guests at home. When you prepare carefully, your chances of having successful holiday parties are more likely and you’ll leave a wonderful impression with your guests.

What Happens When The Furnace Runs Out Of Oil?
It might sometimes feel like you have endless chores as a homeowner. You complete one task, but two more take its place. You might find yourself repairing a fence, folding laundry, changing light bulbs, or calling a plumber to fix a leaky pipe in your bathroom. One more item in your to-do list includes having sufficient heating oil in your tank. Homeowners who opt for COD or will-call heating oil delivery should monitor their oil tank levels and make sure to call when it is around 30% full. However, life often gets so busy that you might forget. What happens when the furnace runs out of oil?
Explore Our Heating Oil Deliveries Call Now To Order Heating Oil
Does Running Out Of Oil Damage My Heating System?
If you run out of heating oil, you might question some of the likely consequences. For instance, you might worry that you’ll end up with a damaged furnace when you have an empty tank, much like a car’s fuel injector getting damaged if it runs out of gas.
What Happens When It Runs Out Of Fuel?
The good news is that furnace damage will not happen even if you run out of home heating oil.
However, it is still the best practice that the tank is kept full. This way, you do not have to deal with the hassle of running out of fuel, especially during the cold season. Obviously, your furnace will not operate without oil, so you won’t have any heating until the tank is refilled. Therefore, ensure that you have a constant fuel supply to prevent any heating interruptions at home.
A furnace that runs out of fuel doesn’t mean it gets damaged or broken. However, it can happen at the worst time, when the frigid temperatures start to set in. Your furnace will consume more oil when this happens, so if you already have a low supply, you can expect to run out. This case is especially true for the elderly and children.
Regardless, you don’t need to worry that you’ll damage your furnace if it runs out of oil. You also do not need to worry about safety issues if this happens. However, this doesn’t mean that an empty heating oil tank does not come with other problems.
Call Today: (610) 377-1098
Bleeding The Line And Oil System Filter Replacement
If the temperature is unusually cold, the water pipes might freeze. The water pipes can burst, bringing many issues like mold growth, water damage to your property, and expensive repairs.
You need to reset the furnace once you’ve received your oil delivery. This is also a good time for an oil system filter replacement. The oil filter is usually a cartridge filter on your oil-fired boiler, water heater, or furnace. This means it is enclosed in a canister and is typically placed between the oil burner and the incoming oil line. Therefore, the oil is filtered before reaching the heating system. Running out of oil means that you will need to bleed the line. Call an experienced technician when this happens so they can bleed the fuel line and restart the boiler or furnace for you.
Bleeding the line is needed because the contaminants that had settled at the bottom of the heating oil tank go to the fuel lines when the tank runs out of fuel. You don’t want these contaminants to get into your heating system because they can lead to clogs and costly repairs. Therefore, it is a necessary service when your tank runs out of fuel.
This appointment isn’t free, so it is best to take special care in picking the right time for the HVAC technician to come. These appointments might not be conveniently scheduled, making this another good argument to avoid this situation from happening in the first place. Therefore, make sure you don’t run out of fuel.

The general rule is to refill your fuel oil tank when it is 25 to 30 percent full. You can opt to have automatic home heating oil delivery with a trusted delivery company, like R.F. Ohl,  so that you don’t run out of heating oil again.
If you experience issues with your furnace or it needs a tune-up, call an experienced HVAC contractor. They can visit your home and help you get things back in proper working order.

Oil To Gas Conversion In Lehighton Pennsylvania
After moving into their new home, the Wrightson family knew that their oil-fired boiler was very old, but they also learned something that they weren’t expecting. They found out that their boiler was leaking and discovered a puddle of water on the floor right next to the boiler. Obviously, the homeowners didn’t feel comfortable with the leaking boiler and it led to immediate concerns about the longevity of their existing heating system.
Instead of waiting for their heating system to eventually peter out on its own, they decided that it was better to act immediately and solve the problem before it became a major issue in the middle of a freezing cold Lehighton, PA winter. This makes the most sense because it’s already getting extremely cold outside as the holidays approach and the Wrightson family shouldn’t have to worry about their heating system breaking down during the holiday season.
What did they do next? They contacted R.F. Ohl and requested our immediate help. They wanted to learn about all of their potential options for replacing this boiler and requested to have one of our technicians visit their home. So, our expert technician Matt Miller visited their property to discuss their options. During his visit, he also learned that they had a natural gas meter base for their home. Although the meter was missing, they simply had to contact the local gas company named UGI to get the new meter installed. This opens up the possibility of using natural gas as another option for a fuel source.
Mr. Wrightson was intrigued by the proposition of fueling his heating system with natural gas for a number of reasons. But most of all, he was thrilled to have the ability to remove the old and cumbersome existing oil tanks to free up additional space in his basement to use as he pleases. The new boiler installation would provide enough extra space for the homeowner to set up his basement exactly the way he wanted it. In this home, we performed an oil to gas boiler conversion Lehighton PA.

Problem: Although the Wrightson family knew they brought a home with an old and outdated boiler, once they moved in they discovered that the oil-fired boiler was also leaking water because a puddle formed at the base of the unit. They didn’t feel comfortable leaving the old heating system in place only to have it burn out in the middle of a harsh Lehighton, PA winter. So, they decided to upgrade their heating system right away.
Solution: Expert specialist Matt Miller visited the Wrightson home on behalf of R.F. Ohl. As he began discussing heating system replacement options with the homeowners, he discovered that they had a natural gas meter base for their home. He suggested contacting the local gas company to install a new meter. After the gas company did their job, Matt Miller proposed installing a natural gas boiler, which the homeowner agreed to wholeheartedly because he wanted to remove the large and unwieldy oil tanks from his basement anyway to free up additional space.
Energy Kinetics Oil to Gas Conversion in Lehighton PA
Most people aren’t very surprised to learn that the weather gets extremely cold in Lehighton PA in the heart of the winter. In fact, on average, the weather fluctuates between 27°F and 38°F, which isn’t very warm at all. The area is typically bombarded by 13 days of freezing rainfall during the month of December and on average, the snow typically falls for 7 days during the final month of the year. When Matt Miller visited for his consultation, he spoke with the homeowner and learned that they would be very pleased to remove the old oil-fired boiler tanks to use the space for other things. So, when Matt realized that the home had a missing natural gas meter and it was set up for natural gas, he suggested contacting the gas company to have a new meter installed. He also suggested an oil to gas conversion to eliminate the need for those large oil tanks.
Matt quoted a very durable and efficient natural gas boiler from Energy Kinetics. He also said that he’d have to install new gas piping throughout the home in order to add a new gas cooking range and other gas appliances in the future when needed. The homeowners accepted the proposal and the rest is history. The homeowner agreed to have an Energy Kinetics Model EK1T Ascent natural gas boiler installed and the removal of the existing oil tanks.

Lehighton PA Oil To Gas Conversion & Upgraded Heating System
Joe Wrightson absolutely made the right call to replace his existing oil-fired boiler because it was really old and outdated and it was also leaking a puddle of water all over the floor. Not only that, but it was also an inefficient system that would’ve been very expensive for the homeowner if they continued using it in its current rundown state. R.F. Ohl and Matt Miller recognized an opportunity to replace it with a natural gas-fired Energy Kinetics Ascent Boiler.
Energy Kinetics is a wonderful company with plenty of longevity in the industry. The company was founded in 1979 and they’ve spent the last 42 years providing high-quality products and impeccable service to all of their customers. Energy Kinetics Natural Gas Boiler Expectations
When a gas boiler is properly installed and maintained, it is expected to last for 15 years or longer. This is only possible as long as the boiler is properly maintained and installed correctly. From a maintenance standpoint, a proper annual maintenance contract is an absolute must. A professional heating technician must expertly check the heating system every year to make sure it is running in tip-top shape and to clean it annually to reduce heat exchanger corrosion.
The technician’s job is to also take a closer look at the boiler during servicing to attempt to discover small leaks, control errors, and other potential problems. If these issues are discovered during the annual boiler servicing, the technician can take the necessary steps to correct these problems before they become even bigger issues.
Improper installation can lead to serious problems in the future. A licensed and professional contractor like R.F. Ohl is an absolute must. Customers need someone who can properly install all of the major components of a heating system and boiler to ensure maximum longevity. If the components are installed wrong, the boiler will not operate as well as it should and this will lead to additional repairs and other problems because of faulty installation.
Remember, the highly trained and skilled technicians at R.F. Ohl are the ideal candidates to install and properly maintain a natural gas boiler. This all but guarantees that the boiler will last for 15 years or much longer with care and oversight.

3 Warning Signs A Gas Boiler Is Working Inefficiently
Every homeowner wants their gas boiler to work as efficiently as possible. And in this particular case, the Wrightson family made an oil and gas conversion with the hopes of creating a more energy-efficient heating environment in their home. Since they are brand-new natural gas boiler owners, it makes sense to share a few important warning signs of inefficiency.
In this particular case, they’ve hired R.F. Ohl to perform annual maintenance on their heating system, so these inefficiencies will never be a problem because we’ll catch them before they ever have an opportunity to get out of hand. But for everyone else, please keep the following in mind.
The Pilot Light On The Boiler Keeps Going Out
This might seem like a common problem, but it really shouldn’t happen on a regular basis. If it does continue to happen often, it’s likely because the thermocouple needs replacing. Make sure to contact a gas safe registered engineer to replace this broken part. This isn’t a task that the homeowner should perform if they do not have the proper qualifications.

The Boiler Takes A Long Time To Heat Up
In today’s modern world, gas boilers tend to work highly efficiently. And it’s because of this efficiency that boilers tend to heat and produce hot water in a near-instant fashion. If for some reason the boiler takes a lot longer for the hot water to come out of the taps, or it takes longer than normal for a home to get warm while heating, it’s a sure sign that an expert technician should pay a visit to check on the boiler.
The Boiler Flame Is Yellow Instead Of Blue
Is the flame inside the boiler burning with a yellow color? Believe it or not, this isn’t what it should look like when the natural gas is burning properly. It should actually have a blue flame burning inside.
What does this mean? First, it means the homeowner should call on expert technicians like R.F. Ohl immediately to diagnose the problem. Secondly, it potentially means that the boiler is producing carbon monoxide, which is a real problem that needs to be taken seriously.

Oil to Gas Conversion Upgrade Considerations
Boiler Fuel Efficiency – fuel is becoming very expensive with inflation suddenly rearing its ugly head. Choosing an upgraded model known for its highly efficient fuel-burning is certainly beneficial to the homeowner. Many homeowners save 20%-25% in fuel expenses after their upgrade.
Brand Of Boiler – homeowners benefit tremendously by choosing a brand that’s highly recognized and well known for producing top-quality products within the industry. Trusted brands usually mean purchasing a highly efficient product with serious longevity as well. They are often affordable, made of top-quality materials, and built to last.
Boiler Longevity – it makes the most sense for homeowners to upgrade an oil boiler to a new gas boiler with a reputation for longevity. With a long lifespan, the product will last for many years to come and with proper maintenance and care, decades may pass before it needs to be replaced in the future.
Boiler Installation Contractor – it’s always important to find the best contractor available to do the job. In this case, R.F. Ohl is an amazing choice in Lehighton PA. Our reputation is in great standing and we have an excellent rapport with many members of the community.

Review of R.F. Ohl
Our service tech Shawn was amazing. He was courteous, knowledgeable, and honest. It’s a shame I like him so much as we will no longer continue to use RF Ohl services. We purchased a new AC unit in 2017 from Ohl and was not informed we needed to maintain the unit yearly in order to keep our 10 year warranty. The sales manager was extremely rude and condescending to me on the phone, very defensive from the moment he called me back to schedule the service. I was told “I should have known as all extended warranties are like this”. It is not written in the contract for our new unit nor was I told verbally at install, nor is is written up as an “extended warranty”. We assumed it was a standard warranty. Otherwise I would have absolutely kept up with yearly maintenance. This is not something one “automatically knows” unless this is the type of line of work you are familiar with. I am not. I as also not informed at the time of the appointment booking that there was an additional diagnostic fee associated with the call. Shawn was able to detect our coolant was leaking from the copper pipes which will cost approx $1500 to replace and are only 4 years old. This would not be covered under the warranty anyway. I am disappointed that even without maintenance a new system less than 5 years old needs major equipment replaced. Shawn was great at fixing the problem (for now) but we will be going elsewhere for our future maintenance and repairs. If there is no warranty to be guaranteed, there is no incentive for us to continue using RF Ohl.

Energy Kinetics Oil Boiler Installation Walnutport PA
Protecting your family is a homeowner’s most important job. When Angie Doyne learned that she had an unsafe boiler in her home, she stepped up to the plate and immediately acted on behalf of her loved ones. The last thing she ever wants to do is put her family’s lives in jeopardy. On top of that, the winter is also quickly approaching and it’s getting very cold outside. As a result, the Doyne family needed an oil boiler replacement Walnutport PA.
After learning about their unsafe boiler from a different company, Ms. Doyne decided to connect with us because she needed to get a quote for a new replacement boiler. After connecting with R.F. Ohl on the phone, we immediately sent our expert technician Matt Miller to her residence in Walnutport PA to provide an estimate and boiler replacement suggestions.
The winter gets very cold in this part of Pennsylvania and the frigid weather will be here before in the blink of an eye. It’s best to nip this problem in the bud now by getting a free estimate from the experts at R.F. Ohl instead of risking a cold and difficult winter in the immediate future.
It was truly unsafe to continue using their really old and badly rundown and dangerous boiler any longer. But Ms. Doyne was never going to jeopardize the well-being of the people living in her home for any reason, so she contracted R.F. Ohl to install a brand-new Energy Kinetics Oil Boiler to replace the old dangerously unstable one that could’ve harmed her and the other occupants if left unchecked.
The beautiful thing about the new boiler is that during the installation process, our team discovered that incorrect piping was previously installed right near the boiler. After correcting this issue that was severely interfering with the boiler’s heating operations, the home was finally being heated properly. Even better, the new boiler would save 25% in annual fuel costs, which is a massive amount of money over the lifespan of the boiler.

Problem: After calling another company, Angie Doyne learned that her ancient boiler was incredibly dangerous and it was jeopardizing her home and well-being. She contacted R.F. Ohl to ask for a quote and further guidance about installing a new boiler. We provided recommendations and an estimate for parts and labor.
Solution: R.F. Ohl visited the Doyne home. Our expert technician Matt Miller recommended installing an Energy Kinetics oil boiler. The owner agreed, signed a contract, and we replaced their ancient boiler with a brand-new one from Energy Kinetics. We also fixed piping that severely interfered with the boiler’s ability to heat the home.
Energy Kinetics Oil Boiler Installation in Walnutport PA
It shouldn’t surprise anyone to find out just how cold it gets in Walnutport PA during the winter. The weather gets brutally cold with freezing winds, heavy snowstorms, and blisteringly low temperatures. The Doyne family realized that winter was fast approaching so they called a company to take a look at their existing ancient boiler. They didn’t want to freeze this winter because of a faulty heating system.
During the consultation, they learned that their boiler was not only old and rundown, but it was dangerous to operate within their home. That’s when R.F. Ohl came into the picture because Angie Doyne called us and asked for a free no-hassle estimate. As you can imagine, we gladly obliged and our technician Matt Miller visited the home.
Matt noticed a few things during his initial visit. First, he confirmed that they were using an ancient and very dangerous boiler that needed to be replaced immediately. Second, he quickly learned that some of the piping was installed incorrectly near their boiler. This faulty piping was severely interfering with the way the boiler heated the home.
Matt provided expert recommendations and quoted Angie Doyne a fair price for material and labor. She gladly accepted the proposal and agreed to have an Energy Kinetics Model EK1T installed to replace the current rundown unit.

Energy Kinetics Oil Boiler Expectations
It’s critically important to understand that an oil boiler has long-life expectations. Depending on the particular product, it’s possible that a traditional oil boiler will last from 15-20 years or longer in some cases. As a matter of fact, if the homeowner properly maintains the boiler with regular yearly maintenance and checkups, it’s possible to last for roughly 25 years or more in some instances.
Remember, regular maintenance and upkeep is of the utmost importance to properly maintain a boiler. Otherwise, it will not experience the maximum amount of longevity possible and the homeowner could needlessly cut its lifespan short.
Please contact R.F. Ohl immediately to sign up for an annual maintenance contract. Our team will periodically inspect your boiler and heating system to ensure that it remains in tip-top shape. The Energy Kinetics Ascent boiler will have the best chance of lasting for 25 years or longer if regular maintenance takes place each year.
Follow the lead of the Doyne family and replace ancient boilers sooner rather than later. And when it’s finally installed and working properly in your home, do not hesitate to sign up for an R.F. Ohl yearly maintenance contract to properly protect this important investment.

3 Critical Signs That a Boiler Needs to Be Replaced
For the most part, homeowners understand the value of upgrading their boiler and heating system. They know that they should make the switch to become more energy-efficient and save on fuel costs. At other times, it isn’t necessarily obvious when a boiler needs to be immediately replaced. Find out more about the critical signs of boiler replacement when you continue reading.
The Boiler Is Old & Outdated
Some people fail to realize that it’s necessary to replace their boiler when it becomes incredibly old and outdated. If a homeowner has had it for 20 years or more, it’s likely necessary to make a switch.
At this point, the warranty is likely long gone and way past its prime. When the boiler needs to be repaired, these expenses are coming directly out of the homeowner’s pocket. In many instances, the property owner will spend more money repairing an old boiler than necessary when an outright replacement is often the better choice.
More often than not, repairing an old boiler leads to a temporary solution and nothing more. The ancient boiler will eventually break down again way too soon, so if a boiler is near its 15-20 years life expectancy, it’s time to strongly think about replacing this vital piece of heating equipment.
Increasing Energy Expenses
Paying top dollar for energy expenses is painful and unnecessary. It gets even worse when the power company begins increasing the cost of energy right when a boiler becomes inefficient due to age or other factors.
Is the homeowner noticing rising energy bills? It’s possible that these costs are increasing because extra boiler repairs are now a necessity to maintain the old and outdated boiler in the home. Constant service calls add up to big bucks after a while, so a boiler replacement is likely the best option at this point. Consider upgrading your boiler and your heating system to a highly fuel-efficient option like the one from Energy Kinetics.
Home Comfort Is Quickly Dwindling
During the winter, certain rooms within the home might not be as comfortable as they should due to inefficient heating. Some rooms may feel too hot while others might feel too cold. It’s also possible for temperatures to fluctuate throughout the day. If this is the case, the heating apparatus isn’t working as effectively as it once did. The heating controls have lost their efficiency, so installing more efficient controls is best in this situation.
Considerations for an Oil Boiler Upgrade
Expected Boiler Lifespan – choosing a boiler with a long lifespan is very important when installing a new one. Pick a brand with a reputation for longevity and your boiler could last for 20-25 years or more if it’s properly taken care of.
Fuel Cost Efficiency – inflation is on the rise and fuel expenses are increasing too. Choosing a new boiler with fuel cost efficiency is definitely the order of the day. This tip alone can help homeowners save 20%-25% or more in energy expenses.
Top Boiler Brands – it’s best to choose a highly efficient product from a well-recognized and highly respected brand. Choosing a trusted brand means buying an efficient product designed to last for many years to come. Trusted brands typically sell high-quality, more affordable products as well.
HVAC Contractor – finding the right contractor is always critical to have a successful oil boiler installation. R.F. Ohl is the perfect choice for the job but because we have an excellent reputation in Walnutport PA and we can handle each and every one of your HVAC needs.

How Much Does An HVAC System Installation Cost?
With a reliable HVAC system in place, you are assured of comfort and safety at home. Additionally, a good HVAC system will help you avoid the cost of premature repairs, high energy consumption, insurance, and even medical treatments. As long as your HVAC system is performing well, you and other members of your household have a lower risk of suffering from illnesses such as heat stroke, heat exhaustion, pneumonia, respiratory diseases, and a host of other medical issues. A reliable HVAC system can regulate indoor temperatures and prevent pipes from freezing and bursting, hence ensuring that you never have to worry about water damage. However, different systems come with different price tags. In this article, we discuss factors that influence an HVAC installation cost. Likewise, we share heating and cooling installation costs for the Poconos and the Lehigh Valley area.
Explore Our Home Heating & Cooling Services Call To Schedule A Free, In-Home Estimate
How Much Are HVAC Installation Costs?
The cost of an HVAC system installation will vary widely, depending on certain factors. If you want a ducted system, you will require a network of ducts installed, which means you will have to spend more for installation if you do not have a ductwork system yet. However, if you choose a ductless system, you can avoid the need for a ducted network to be built into your home. As such, you pay less for installation. However, ductless systems do cost more to buy.
Factors That Affect HVAC Installation
In general, the cost of an HVAC system installation in northeastern PA will depend on a combination of factors that are related to the process itself. Some of these factors include:
the type of heating and cooling system to be installed
the size of the house
the number of zones in the house
the complexity of the process of installation
the capacity of the HVAC system
HVAC efficiency rating
accessories (if necessary or desired)
Most HVAC contractors will charge the installation cost by square footage, which means that if you have a bigger house, it will naturally cost more. If you want to use HVAC zoning in your home, the contractor might have to install additional duct dampers to redirect heated or cooled air to different areas of the home. Another key factor is the AFUE rating and the SEER rating of the system. The higher the efficiency rating, the higher its cost in terms of purchase. So if you have an air conditioner with a SEER rating between 13 and 28, expect the cost to increase with its efficiency rating as reported by AHRI. If you wish to install other HVAC accessories such as indoor air purifiers, dehumidification systems, whole-house humidifiers, and UV lights, it will also cost more.

How Much is the Average Cost of Heating System Installation?
Below you will find a detailed discussion on the costs of installing different heating systems in Pennsylvania.
What Is The Cost Of Installing A New Boiler?
An estimated 9 million American households use boiler units to heat their homes. A key advantage of boilers is their reliability and capacity to generate stable heat to keep you comfortable. However, this also depends on the efficiency rating of the system. To install a boiler in your home, you will have to consider the size of the structure it will heat up because this also affects the cost. In Pennsylvania, you can expect the cost of boiler installation to range between $9,800.00 to $26,000.00. This, of course, will depend on which HVAC contractor you work with and your home heating needs.

Factors That Affect the Cost of Boiler Installation
If you want to install a boiler, keep in mind that there are factors that will affect the cost. These include:
Boiler Size – If you have a bigger home, you will need a larger boiler to heat it efficiently. The installation cost associated with bigger boilers is also higher compared to that of smaller units. Larger units require more in terms of infrastructure and labor, both of which add up. Note that an oversized boiler is not a good solution if you want more heat. It will simply cause discomfort and increase the cost of heating unnecessarily. If you want the perfect size, talk to a qualified and experienced HVAC contractor to help you determine the boiler unit with the right BTU for you.
Location Of Your Home – The prevailing climate of the region where you live is an important factor to consider when installing a boiler. This is the reason why the cost of installation varies depending on location. This is also why the cost is different from one state to the next.
Type of Boiler – There are different types of boilers you can consider, including conventional boilers, system boilers, and combination units. In general, combi boilers tend to cost less compared to conventional boilers. They also come in different efficiency ratings.
Boiler Fuel Type – The cost of fuel to run the system should be an important consideration. Boiler units may use gas, electricity, or fuel oil. Keep in mind that the cost of each of these types of fuels fluctuates depending on the season and certain market forces. Choose the one which is most effective and cost-efficient for you.
Special Features – If you want to transition from one type of boiler/fuel to another, ask your HVAC contractor to perform some upgrades and modifications during installations. It is likely you will need other features such as tanks, valves, ductwork, and electric cables, depending on which type of boiler is going to be installed.
How Much Does It Cost For A Furnace Installation?
On average, the cost of getting a furnace installed in Pennsylvania will range from $7,200.00 to $16,000.00. Keep in mind that these figures will vary, depending on the HVAC contractor you will be working with, as well as on the size of your home.
Factors That Affect the Cost of Furnace Installation
There are several factors that you should consider during a furnace installation. These include:
Complexity of the Furnace Installation – In general, your HVAC contractor could spend from 4 to 8 hours to have the furnace installed in your home. However, if there are other aspects to consider that could complicate the process, it might take longer. These include factors such as gas lines, modifications to electrical wiring, and HVAC ductwork. Your HVAC contractor will charge more if the installation requires more work or has a higher level of difficulty.
Furnace Energy Source – The cost of installation can also be influenced by the specific type of fuel that the furnace system will use. For example, an electrical furnace is generally cheaper to install but expect the long-term cost of energy consumption to be high. A gas furnace is also generally cheaper than an oil furnace. However, heating oil fuel can generally produce more heat compared to natural gas, which means that a heating oil furnace will cost less to operate over the long term.
Furnace Size – The cost of a furnace installation will increase as the size of the unit increases. Ask your HVAC contractor to do an HVAC load calculation or Manual J on your home. This will help calculate the true furnace size you will need. If you have an undersized furnace installed, it will not be able to heat your home sufficiently while an oversized furnace will not only significantly lower natural humidity indoors but also increase the cost of heating.
Furnace Efficiency –  A high-efficiency furnace is, in most cases, more expensive. However, they are better at lowering your energy costs long-term. A knowledgeable HVAC contractor can guide you on choosing the best furnace for your home, one that has a good AFUE rating, using the area of your home and your heating needs as references.

What is the Cost of Central Air Conditioning Installation in PA?
Let’s take a closer look at the average cost of having specific types of cooling systems installed in Pennsylvania.
Air Conditioner Installed in a House With a Pre-Existing Furnace and Ductwork
If your home already has a furnace and ductwork system in place, you likely will have to pay a lower cost for installation. Since these structures are already in place, the installation process will be quicker and much easier for the HVAC contractor.
However, you should also consider the current condition of the furnace and the ductwork, especially if you are having a forced-air AC system installed. Old, worn-out ductwork will either have to be replaced or refurbished to ensure that your central air conditioner will work well.
If you have an older or used furnace, it may also have to be serviced to ensure that it is in excellent working condition. Otherwise, you will save more on installation costs if you have a perfectly working pre-existing system. For a replacement air conditioner system, the costs range from $11,000.00 to $20,000.00.

What Factors Affect the Cost of Central Air Conditioner Installation?
Type of AC System – AC systems are available in different sizes, functionalities, and shapes. There are AC systems that offer single-speed air conditioning and other systems that have variable speeds. Which system you choose will affect how much you will pay for installation.
AC Size – Larger AC systems are generally more expensive because they can supply cooled air to a wider area.
AC Efficiency – AC systems with higher SEER rating cost more to install. However, they do save you more in energy costs over the long term, thanks to their high efficiency.
HVAC Installation Rates and Labor Costs – HVAC contractors do charge different rates for the installation, although this will generally depend on the air conditioner size and the complexities of installation involved. If you want a more reasonable cost of installation that is performed professionally, contact R.F. Ohl.
HVAC Ductwork Condition – Getting a central AC unit installed in a home that has existing ductwork will cost less if your ductwork is in good working condition. Now, if the HVAC contractor has to build ductwork for your home, expect to pay more on installation costs.
Additional HVAC Equipment – Additional accessories add up the cost of installation. For example, if you want an air purifier or a whole-house dehumidifier installed with your central AC system, expect to pay more. It will also cost more to install a system to cool more HVAC zones. HVAC zones are necessary if you want to have better control over the temperatures in different areas of your home. It is likely that dampers will have to be installed, based on the number of HVAC zones you want to create. As the number of dampers increase, so will the cost of installation.
Getting a Central AC Installed in a Boiler-Heated Home
If your home already has a boiler in place and you want to have central air conditioning installed but do not have ductwork, expect the cost of installation to be between $17,000.00 to $28,000.00. This amount is generally higher compared to what you can expect to pay if you already have a ductwork system in place. In most homes, the HVAC team will build the system of ducts from scratch. Building the ductwork could also mean having to tear down and rebuild ceilings and walls to do the job.
Things are more complicated if your home design and layout cannot make room for a network of ducts. Older homes, for example, have plaster walls, which means having ductwork installed can be very challenging. Now let’s say that the HVAC contractor was able to install the ducts on an older home. The next challenge is ensuring that the structural integrity of the building is not compromised. If this is a major concern, consider getting a ductless AC system instead. This will help you avoid the costly ductwork construction but also ensure that you get to retain your home’s structural integrity. A ductless AC system is an excellent option for older, historic homes.

Ductless Air Conditioning In Specific Rooms (Single-Zone)
Some rooms in your home may need special cooling or heating. If you have a new sunroom built, for example, expect this room to be warmer during the summer compared to the rest of the rooms in your house. If you want to maintain comfort, you will need to consider zoned cooling. A ductless AC system can provide you with features that will allow you to have total temperature control over all the rooms in your home, without requiring you to modify any part of the structure or getting ducts constructed. If you have a room that is separate from the house and want to cool or heat it, consider a single-zone ductless mini-split system for independent temperature control. Since you can control the heating and cooling of specific rooms, you can enjoy lower energy costs. Single-zone setups cost around $6,700 to $12,000.
Learn More About Ductless HVAC Systems Call To Schedule A Free, In-Home Estimate
Multi-Zone Ductless Install
Now let’s say you have different rooms and specific heating and cooling requirements for each. You can fix this issue by having a ductless, multi-zone ductless HVAC system installed. This system runs on a single compressor that supplies as many as 8 air handlers indoors. Each of these air handlers supplies air to a specific room or area and can be controlled independently. You can then set the thermostats to different temperatures for each room. Plus, you can turn off the supply of heated or cooled air to unoccupied rooms. This will help give you significant savings. Consider a multi-zone ductless system if you have an older home with no ductwork or multi-stories that require different temperatures. For this type of system, you can expect to pay about $12,000 to $30,000 if you live in Pennsylvania.

How Your Heating System Can Make You Ill
Having a well-functioning HVAC system is a critical part of having clean and healthy indoor air. Clean indoor air helps keep everyone, in the environment of your home, healthier. On the other hand, poor indoor air quality can make you ill. Fortunately, you can avoid issues like these with heater maintenance Jim Thorpe PA. Here’s what you need to know about your heating system and your health.

Reasons Your Heater Makes You Ill
Heating and air conditioning systems are used all year round to keep the occupants of a property comfortable. Unfortunately, when these systems are not properly installed or maintained, they don’t operate at their best. This can cause dire consequences. In such circumstances, your heating system can literally make you ill. Your heating system can make you ill both directly and indirectly.
Illness Can Directly Result From Your Heating System
Below, we will share some of the reasons that a heating system can make you feel ill inside of your home.
1. Gas Leaks
Carbon monoxide and other gas leaks are one of the most direct ways that a heating system can you ill. When carbon monoxide is inhaled, it can have devastating effects. To avoid this, it is imperative that you have your furnace or boiler thoroughly checked. It needs to be checked for corrosion and wear and tear that might result in leaks. An HVAC professional will check for existing leaks or the possibility of future HVAC leaks. Be sure to schedule annual heating system maintenance with R.F. Ohl.
Call Today: (610) 377-1098
2. The Build-Up Of Dust & Other Allergens
In a similar manner, the build-up of dust or allergens in an HVAC system contributes to making you ill. It is for these reasons that your HVAC system needs to be regularly maintained by a professional. This will protect both your indoor air quality and subsequently the health of you and your household members. In addition, be sure to change your HVAC filters when it is necessary. All homes vary from one another when it concerns an HVAC filter replacement schedule. Some homes are located in dusty areas or have various pets – some of the factors that influence how quickly your filter will get dirty. For the sake of good practice, check your filters monthly and replace them when they are dirty.
Illnesses Can Indirectly Result From Your Heating System Inadvertently
1. Suppressing Your Immune System & Increasing The Probability Of Disease
Many scientists believe that our immune systems have become less active in fighting off cold and illnesses than in the days before central heating and air conditioning. According to these scientists, this is due to increasingly less direct exposure to the elements. Add that to the fact that persons are exposed to a constant internal environment irrespective of the changes in the elements outdoors. This helps us realize that they may have a point. While no one is suggesting that you expose yourself unnecessarily to the elements, the theory does provide much food for thought.

Common Winter Furnace Problems And How To Troubleshoot
This article includes a discussion of the common furnace issues and how you can troubleshoot them.
Lack Of Furnace Maintenance
A furnace works hard during the cold season and is expected to work even after the winter ends. Heating systems are more likely to break down from damage and wear and tear if it does not receive regular HVAC maintenance. This process is quite simple. A certified HVAC company is required for annual furnace maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair when needed. This way, you can ensure that your furnace works efficiently at all times. Do not wait until there is extensive damage before you contact an HVAC technician. Otherwise, your system might have already incurred irreparable problems that require an expensive sum to fix.
Troubleshoot: Call a professional to inspect and tune-up your HVAC system at least once per year.
Dirty Furnace Filter
A dirty filter is one of the most common issues you might encounter when conducting gas furnace troubleshooting on an older unit. Air filters are responsible for the particulate level that circulates in your home. They help make sure that you breathe clean and safe air. Unfortunately, air filters can accumulate dirt, dust, and other contaminants, causing a clog. This makes your system work less efficiently.
Troubleshoot: Conduct air filter checks once a month. Clean or replace it when the air filter is dirty.
Electric Ignition Or Pilot Control Problems
An electric ignition problem might be due to an electrical problem. Check if the pilot is out, as this could be why the furnace isn’t heating your home. Do not light it manually if the furnace has an electronic lighter. If the furnace has power, re-light it by carefully following the owner’s manual.
Troubleshoot: Check if the circuit breaker tripped. Fix this issue before checking the unit. Determine if there are drafts or clogs. If the furnace does not relight, contact a licensed HVAC contractor right away.
Call Today: (610) 377-1098
Malfunctioning Thermostat
A furnace thermostat that won’t turn on likely has a faulty or damaged component. This is typically an easy troubleshooting task that won’t cost much unless the part needs to be upgraded or replaced. If the thermostat doesn’t show the temperature readings, it could have battery problems.
Troubleshoot: Do a thermostat reset by switching the furnace on and off. You can also shut the power to the furnace completely. Make sure to replace the batteries with new ones periodically as well. Call an HVAC professional to check the unit if these troubleshooting steps fail.

Furnace Blowing Cold Air
Some causes of a furnace failing to produce warm air include a blocked filter, incorrect temperature setting, lack of gas, or unlit pilot light. The furnace might also not have enough capacity to heat the space you have.
Troubleshoot: Make sure you have the right furnace size for your home by consulting an HVAC company. A furnace that’s too small needs an upgrade. In addition, clean or change the filter, check the power, and inspect the pilot light. The thermostat should also have the right setting.

Furnace Is Frequently Cycling
Short cycling is a furnace malfunction where the unit turns on and off frequently. It is noticeable because your system will operate in quick and constant bursts and your energy costs are higher than necessary. The problem could happen because of dirty air filters, overheating, and incorrect furnace sizing.
Troubleshoot: Make sure that your thermostat works properly and there is no damage. The thermostat should also not be under direct light or near any heat source like a stove. Otherwise, it could give you the wrong temperature reading. Contact an HVAC expert to help you find the right furnace size for your home. If it has a faulty heat exchanger, call your trusted HVAC contractor immediately.
Furnace Blower Continuously Runs
If the furnace blower keeps running even though it is supposed to stop, it might be because of a problem with the limit switch. Some models allow the fan limit switch to be switched off manually. If your system is one of these models, check if the switch is in the manual or automatic position and adjust it as needed.
Troubleshoot: The limit switch that is set on automatic will keep the fan from running constantly. However, if you have a damaged limit switch, you need to have a licensed HVAC tech check the unit.
Furnace Produces Unusual Noise Or Smells
Some noises that your furnace makes are warning sounds that shouldn’t be ignored. These include booming, clanging, clicking, and screeching sounds. Any unusual HVAC smell could also point to furnace troubles.
Troubleshoot: Check the filters for any clogs if you are having airflow issues. A mechanical problem or a clogged burner should never be fixed on your own. Call a professional HVAC technician instead.

Conclusion
It is recommended that homeowners learn how to do simple heating system troubleshooting. These steps are something that they can do on their own as long as they are equipped with the correct information. This way, they can conduct it safely. Therefore, learn how your furnace works and what steps you can do safely. After all, some issues do not need a professional to resolve them. It is always better to understand your heating system so it can work more efficiently for your home. For other issues, be sure to call in a professional.

Improper Furnace Installations Can End Up Costing You More Money
How a furnace is installed is just as important as how well it’s been designed. Improper furnace installation is one thing that HVAC companies always encourage property owners to avoid. This is a simple way to avoid serious furnace issues and early furnace failure. Proper installation of heaters is essential for ensuring proper functioning, given that it directly correlates to both efficiency and performance. Moreover, a furnace must be the proper size for a building. It must be installed the right way for it to operate safely. This article will share a few reasons why proper furnace installation is so important.

The Role Of The Manual J Load Calculation & Furnace Installations
Before taking any other steps, there is one very important thing that must be done to ensure that your HVAC system is installed correctly and able to work problem-free. This is performing a Manual J Load Calculation. Obtaining this figure is vital for ensuring that the capacity and size of the HVAC system are correct. But what is this calculation and why does it matter?
Why a Manual J Load Calculation Matters
This calculation is a measurement of the cooling and/or heating capacity of HVAC equipment based on a specific set of factors. Among these is the square footage of the home or commercial facility, and the building materials that were used to create the structure. It also accounts for wall positioning, insulation types and amounts, and other important aspects that determine the right size for HVAC equipment. This calculation is necessary for identifying the right HVAC system capacity, which is typically measured in terms of BTUs or British Thermal Units. A single HVAC ton represents the system’s capacity to melt 1,000 kilograms (one ton) of ice over a 24-hour period. A single ton is the equivalent of 12,000 BTUs per hour.
So why is the Manual J Load Calculation important? Easy. All homes are different in terms of their materials, their design, their structure, and even their occupants. An HVAC system in any home has to be the right capacity and size for maintaining constant, even temperatures throughout the building. If it is undersized or too small, or too big (oversized), it won’t be efficient, use more fuel than necessary, and it will sustain excess wear. It might even exhibit problems like short cycling where it constantly turns off and on. It can also fail prematurely as the result of accelerated wear. Indoor comfortable levels can additionally decline given that the HVAC equipment is unable to properly heat and cool the environment.

Safety Risk of Having an Improperly Installed Furnace
Problems resulting from an incorrectly installed furnace are far more than just an inconvenience; they can also pose safety risks. Following are several potential safety hazards resulting from improperly installed furnaces that people might be subject to:
Dangerous Gas Leaks
If not connected correctly, a furnace can have gaps at its joints that result in gas leaks. A gas-fired furnace releases a colorless, odorless gas called carbon monoxide that’s both combustible and poisonous. Both humans and animals can be harmed by it.
Electrical Problems
One very worrisome issue that can occur as the result of incorrect furnace installation is faulty wiring. Wiring issues are often the result of poor wiring jobs. Systems that have faulty wiring can drain energy, cause the circuit breaker to trip, and increase the likelihood of electrical fires. Electrical issues also lower efficiency, thereby causing homeowners to pay more to heat and cool their homes than they should.
Decreased Home Comfort
Furnaces are unnecessarily burdened when they aren’t properly installed. Moreover, people usually experience decreased indoor comfort as a result. Given that their furnaces don’t work correctly, several problems can arise including:
Learn More About Our Heating System Services Call To Schedule A Free Estimate
Decreased Indoor Air Quality (IAQ)
The quality of the indoor air is reliant upon good HVAC functioning. If the drain system has a faulty design, it can lead to water leaks and structural damages throughout the building. Everywhere that water accumulates, as a result, can be affected by mildew and mold. This is one way in which IAQ can be affected.
Problems With Air Distribution
When furnace installation is faulty along with the HVAC ductwork system, this can impact air distribution in a negative way. This is usually the case when the unit’s output capacity isn’t compatible with the duct size. If there are air distribution problems, system efficiency will be lower and there will likely be uneven temperatures throughout the home.
Call To Schedule A Free Consultation
Hot and Cold Spots
Frustrating hot and cold spots can develop throughout the building when air distribution issues exist. For instance, certain areas of the home will feel colder or warmer than they’re supposed to, which can cause both decreased resident comfort and decreased resident safety.
Venting Problems
Your HVAC system can also have problems at the venting. If vent pipes that are the wrong material or size are used, or if the system is simply vented incorrectly, HVAC problems will arise seemingly right away.

Choosing the Right HVAC Company for Your Furnace Installation
Only a seasoned and licensed HVAC company can install your furnace the right way. Before hiring a furnace contractor, look for these things:
Industry and NATE Certifications
Nate certifications are issued to HVAC technicians who successfully pass the specialty and core tests that the organization offers. North American Technician Excellent (NATE) is an independent body that offers certifications to technicians who work in service or installation industries via a knowledge-based exam. When technicians have NATE certification, this means that they have met the industry standard and that they’ve proven their competence within their field.
Bonded and Licensed
Licensed companies are guaranteed to be knowledgeable, well-trained, and qualified to handle the work they take on. If companies are licensed, you’re assured of getting competent work. An HVAC contractor license bond is a type of insurance that offers protection for both HVAC companies and their clients in case problems ever arise.

Quality References
Another thing to look for when choosing an HVAC company or a company that solely performance furnace installation is good references. When a company is competent and offers superior workmanship, their current and former clients should be eager to recommend them to other consumers.

Final Word
Companies providing furnace installation work hard to ensure that their clients have comfortable homes. One way in which they accomplish this is by making sure that home heating equipment is installed correctly from the very outset. When your furnace is the right size and capacity for your home, you’ll get guaranteed safety, comfort, and efficiency all year long.

Dehumidifier Installation Project Pocono Pines PA
Before adding a dehumidifier, stepping into the crawl space in the Lemos home was a sweat-inducing experience, to say the least. The room would get so hot and humid that it felt like you were trapped in an oven. They were smart enough to add a dehumidifier to cut down on the humidity, but it eventually broke down and the homeowners needed our assistance.
They called R.F. Ohl to find out if we can help them with their drain pan problem. On the original dehumidifier, the drain pan broke and the water was leaking into the crawl space all over the floor. It turns out that they had a really old dehumidifier and it was impossible to find a replacement drain pan because the part isn’t being mass-produced anymore.
As mentioned, the crawl space is way too hot without one, so our expert technician Matt Miller suggested a dehumidifier installation Pocono Pines PA home. As he was examining the broken drain pan on the original dehumidifier, he also noticed that the crawl space was excessively damp. This happened because the dehumidifier wasn’t working up to snuff and there was an unnecessary return duct that was creating excess moisture because it was pulling air from the wrong place.
In the end, R.F. Ohl not only replaced the old dehumidifier with a new one, but we also removed the return duct to allow the new dehumidifier to cycle air through the crawl space instead.
Problem: The Lemos residence discovered a broken dehumidifier drain pan was leaking into their crawl space. They called R.F. Ohl and asked us to take a look to see if we can fix it.
Solution: Our specialist Matt Miller visited the Lemos home in Pocono Pines PA and assessed the situation. It turned out that he couldn’t find a replacement drain pan because the model was no longer being manufactured. He suggested installing a new dehumidifier, which we did, and he removed a needless return duct to improve the way the air cycled through the crawl space.

Lennox Healthy Climate Dehumidifier Installation in Pocono Pines PA
It really surprised the Lemos family to learn that their crawl space was beginning to experience leaking water all over the floor. They knew that it had to be coming from the dehumidifier, but they weren’t particularly certain of the problem itself.
Calling R.F. Ohl was definitely the right choice. We provided expert assistance immediately and we were available to lend a helping hand. After getting on the phone with the homeowner, we determined that it was time to pay them a visit to see what was happening ourselves.
Matt Miller visited the premises and went directly into the crawl space to diagnose the issue. He learned that the drain pan was completely cracked and broken and this was the reason why water was leaking onto the floor in the crawl space. When he attempted to find the proper replacement part, he learned that the manufacturer discontinued this product and there was no replacement available.
After discussing the situation with the homeowner, Matt and the Lemos family decided that it was best to install a brand-new dehumidifier in their home. Together, based on Matt’s expert recommendation, they chose the Lennox Healthy Climate Dehumidifier as the perfect option to replace their existing broken unit.
Matt Miller put together a proposal that the Lemos family immediately agreed to. And it didn’t take long for R.F. Ohl to begin the dehumidifier project that also required the team to remove an unneeded return duct from the crawl space that was causing more trouble than it was worth.

Healthy Climate Dehumidifier Expectations
On average, the typical dehumidifier usually lasts for 10-15 years. But this is only true as long as the owner takes good care of their dehumidifier and the overall system. Otherwise, the dehumidifier could eventually break down much sooner if it’s neglected fairly regularly.
For the most part, customers should enter into a service contract with R.F. Ohl right away to prevent this from ever happening. We will visit your home once a year to service and perform maintenance on the dehumidifier. Plus, we’ll see if any other unwanted issues are about to take place and we’ll talk with you and take the necessary steps to correct these problems before they spiral out of control.
On the other hand, when homeowners take care of their dehumidifier, it’s likely to last longer than average. The product could potentially last for 20-25 years or longer if it’s well-kept and well-maintained.
Do what the Lemos family did and upgrade your dehumidifier today. And while you’re at it, sign up for a yearly maintenance contract as well to help protect this delicate piece of equipment so that it lasts for as long as humanly possible.

The Benefits Of A Dehumidifier
Homeowners recognize the value of installing a dehumidifier in their homes for a number of different reasons. For the most part, the benefits far outweigh the expenses as you are about to learn. To discover these benefits for yourself, please continue reading.
Controlling Moisture In A Crawl Space
By leaving excess moisture in a crawl space, the homeowner is leaving their property susceptible to all kinds of unwanted conditions. The additional moisture can contribute to greater activity from pests, an unwanted amount of mold growth, and it can even cause the wood to rot in the crawl space itself.
The last thing any homeowner needs is colonization or infestation of unwanted pests. But they are often drawn to the water. So, having too much moisture in this space could act as a beacon that calls to pests and welcomes them to congregate and make a home within your crawl space.
This could also lead to a stack effect. In this unwanted scenario, the moisture will move from your crawl space and migrate toward your home’s upper levels, effectively damaging your home in the process.
Improved Air Quality
According to information presented by the EPA, spending time in an indoor space with poor air quality could cause health problems and other unwanted conditions including asthma, respiratory distress, eye irritation, headaches, and allergies amongst others.
These problems develop due to an infestation of dust mites and mold. As mentioned above, pests tend to be attracted to excess moisture. It turns out that dust mites also develop in excess moisture. And this condition will also create an unwanted mold which can cause serious respiratory issues and other allergic reactions.
Effective moisture control is one of the best ways to address these particular health concerns. And a great way to improve the quality of your air is to install a proper dehumidifier to prevent the problem from getting even worse.
youtube
Lower Energy Expenses
Everyone wants to save money whenever possible. Adding a dehumidifier to your home is a great way to lower your energy costs. Many dehumidifiers, including the Lennox Healthy Climate Dehumidifiers, are Energy Star Certified. This means that it requires less energy to do its job properly, which ultimately leads to greater savings.
Plus, your current HVAC and cooling system will not need to work as hard if your dehumidifier is pulling the humidity from the air. This will reduce the need to run your cooling equipment as often, which will also cut down on your energy expenses by a wide margin.

Long Life – when choosing a new dehumidifier for the home, it’s always best to stick with a product known for having a long life. This way the homeowner knows that he or she is getting their money’s worth because the product will last for many years to come.
Brand Recognition – choosing a recognizable brand is always the smart way to go when purchasing a dehumidifier. Lennox is a well-known brand for good reason because they’ve been around for more than 100 years. Their name is synonymous with quality craftsmanship and affordability.
Energy Efficiency – picking an energy-efficient product is always a smart choice to make as a homeowner. The less energy needed to run your dehumidifier, the less money needed to pay electric bills and other expenses throughout the years. This is a no-brainer for every homeowner.

Ductless Heating & Cooling Installation In Mount Bethel PA
Dealing with another grueling hot summer is never an exciting prospect for homeowners. Not only are they uncomfortable without proper air conditioning; their family also suffers alongside them. The Fox family finally said that enough is enough and acted in their best interest. They realized that it was time to fill their home with cool air in the blistering summer and the best way to accomplish this is with a brand-new ductless HVAC system.
The Foxs contacted R.F. Ohl and shared their troubles with us. They filled us in on their problems and mentioned that they’d like to install a new ductless HVAC system in their home. They needed air-conditioning and they needed it quickly before the sweltering summer heat created another uncomfortable July and August.
They also had another plan in mind. They were looking forward to saving money on their electric bills during the winter. Their new HVAC system would cut down on electricity expenses and eliminate the need to heat their home with inefficient electric baseboard heating during the winter.
It shouldn’t surprise anyone to learn that Mount Bethel PA gets extremely cold during the winter months. In fact, during January, February, and March, the average low temperature is about 20°F, which is no laughing matter.
The Fox family contacted R.F. Ohl and said they needed our help. Our home comfort specialist Erica Pribila expertly handled the matter with precision and grace.
She recommended that we install a low ambient heat pump and 2 indoor units in the bedroom and living room. She recommended installing a Lennox ductless HVAC system because it’s a trusted brand known for making high-quality air conditioning and heating products.
Problem: The Fox family wanted a complete whole-house air conditioning solution and they wanted to cut down on their electric bills during the winter. They enlisted R.F. Ohl to help solve their problem.
Solution: R.F. Ohl’s home comfort specialist Erica Pribila visited their home during her consultation. She recommended installing a Lennox ductless HVAC system in her proposal, which the Fox family readily agreed to.

The Benefits Of A Lennox Ductless HVAC Mini Split System In Mount Bethel
Homeowners regularly consider upgrading their HVAC systems for a wide array of reasons. Some are looking for an energy-efficient system to lower their electric bills during the summer and winter months. Others might want to take advantage of other benefits that a brand-new ductless mini-split system provides.
Continue reading to discover the benefits of a Lennox ductless HVAC system now.
Wide Ambient Temperature Range
As a homeowner, it’s definitely beneficial to choose a ductless heating and cooling system with a wide ambient temperature operating range. It guarantees that property owners can keep their homes cool during the brutally hot summer months in Mount Bethel PA. It also ensures that they can keep their home toasty warm during the freezing temperatures in the icy cold winter months.
From a cooling standpoint, the Lennox ductless mini-split system has a cooling range of -22°F to 122°F, which is an incredibly wide range, to say the least. Homeowners will have no trouble keeping their home cool and comfortable no matter how hot it happens to be outside.
From a heating standpoint, the Lennox HVAC system has a heating range of -22°F to 86°F. This range is perfect because the system pumps out enough heat to really warm up the house even when it’s freezing cold outside. Heating the house to a maximum of 86° is more than adequate as the heating system gets the job done every time.
Phenomenal Efficiency Rating
Every Lennox energy-efficient ductless mini-split system has a SEER rating. This acronym stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. Or in some cases, it’s known as the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating.
Either way, this rating or ratio helps to determine how much energy the HVAC system uses based on a specific formula. The formula takes the energy the HVAC system uses in watts per hour and divides it by the air conditioner’s cooling output.
The important takeaway is that a ductless mini-split system with a high SEER rating is going to use the least amount of energy. The Lennox system maintains a maximum efficiency rating of 22 SEER, which means this HVAC unit is incredibly energy-efficient, to say the least.

Supports As Many As 5 Zones For Heating And Cooling
Residential and commercial property owners are typically impressed by the 5 zones of heating and cooling capabilities of the Lennox system. This means that per heat pump, the property owner can install as many as 5 different heating and cooling air handlers in various sections of the home or commercial property.
As an example, if you intend to install 5 zones in your residential home, you can install 5 different air handlers by putting one in your living room, one in each of 3 bedrooms, and one in the family room. Or, property owners have the option to install each zone in whichever area of their home seems like the most efficient place to add a new zone.

How Much Heating Oil Will I Use A Day?
If you use a heating oil system to warm your home, you will need enough fuel in your tank to last you. Knowing the amount of heating oil you use daily helps determine when you will need to schedule your next heating oil delivery. This will also help you budget home heating costs more effectively. Clients often ask our techs, “How much heating oil will I use a day?”. In this article, we discuss the answer to this important question.
Explore Our Heating Oil Deliveries Call Now To Order Heating Oil
Factors That Affect Heating Oil Usage
Below, we cover several factors that have an impact on how much fuel oil you use per day:
1. The Home’s Size And Design
The amount of home heating oil your home needs relies on its size and design. Larger homes require more heating compared to smaller houses. Even if the surrounding temperature is the same, larger homes will still have a higher heating oil consumption.
The home’s design is also a significant factor. Your home’s overall volume affects your heating requirements as well. Other factors that affect fuel consumption include the insulation quality and wall thickness of your home.
Call Today: (610) 377-1098
2. Ambient Temperature
The temperature in your surrounding area can significantly affect how much fuel you use. The colder the outdoor temperatures are, the more heating oil you use per day. For instance, a 15-degrees Fahrenheit drop will result in your household consuming double your usual heating oil usage.
3. Oil Furnace’s Condition
The oil furnace must be cleaned and maintained at all times. This will ensure that it functions at high efficiency. Therefore, have it tuned up at least annually, especially before the cold season begins. An efficient heating unit utilizes less heating oil.
Learn More About Our Heating Oil Deliveries Call Now To Order Oil
Heating Oil Consumption Based On Temperature
The average capacity of oil tanks is 275 gallons. If your local temperature averages at 50 degrees Fahrenheit, you will likely use around 2 gallons daily. Hence, a full tank will last you approximately four and a half months or the entire winter season.
Unfortunately, temperature fluctuations happen during the cold season. A temperature drop results in higher heating oil use. As a matter of fact, a 10-degree drop from the average 50-degree temperature can result in consuming 3.7 gallons of heating oil. If the temperature remains at 40 degrees Fahrenheit throughout the season, then a full tank will only be sufficient for two and a half months.
When the temperature goes down to 20 degrees Fahrenheit, the average home needs around 7 gallons of oil daily. As a result, a full tank will only be sufficient for 39 days if the temperature consistently stays the same throughout the season.
The temperatures typically fluctuate from the 20s to the 40s, averaging 30 degrees Fahrenheit during winter. This leads to your home using around 5.3 gallons of heating oil a day, so a full tank will last for a month and three weeks during the coldest months.
A 275-gallon tank can typically support an average-sized home. Check your home’s tank size to determine if you might have a smaller tank installed. This way, you can estimate your fuel use and know when you need to fill your tank again.
Use Historical Statistics To Estimate Your Heating Oil Needs
The information from your past heating bills can help you determine the daily, monthly, and annual heating oil consumption values of your household. Therefore, make sure that you keep a record of your home’s yearly heating oil consumption. However, remember that this is only possible if you’ve lived in the same house for several years.
If you recently moved into a new neighborhood, look for houses of similar size to yours. You can ask neighbors about their heating oil consumption to give you an idea of how much oil you’ll use in a day. You can call the local heating oil supplier to help you as well.
Call To Schedule An Oil Delivery: (610) 377-1098
Average Heating Oil Usage Based On Square Footage
The home’s size has a significant impact on how much heating oil your home uses. The average American home has a size of 2,687 square feet. However, your home might be smaller or larger than this.
The following estimates are what your house needs for every 1,000 square footage in comparison to the average ambient temperature:
3.27 gallons for 10 degrees Fahrenheit
2.67 gallons for 20 degrees Fahrenheit
2.07 gallons for 30 degrees Fahrenheit
1.47 gallons for 40 degrees Fahrenheit
0.87 gallons for 50 degrees Fahrenheit
For example, if your home has a size of 3,500 square feet, you will need 3.5 times the average requirements listed above. Therefore, a typical day with a temperature of 40 degrees Fahrenheit will consume 5.15 gallons of heating oil.
Heating Oil For Water Heaters
Water heaters can be powered by natural gas, propane, electricity, and heating oil. If both your water heater and heating system use heating oil, you need to adjust your calculation. Water heaters typically consume around 0.5 to 1.0 gallons of heating oil per day. This depends on your home’s size and how many residents shower every day.
Learn More About Our Heating Oil Deliveries Explore Our Case Studies
Conclusion
The amount of heating oil for your household’s daily needs can be determined using your home’s ambient temperature, size, and historical statistics. However, if you only just moved into a new neighborhood, you can always contact the nearest heating oil provider to get an educated estimate.

How To Repair A Leaky Faucet
A leaky faucet is definitely not the most desirable thing to have in any house. The continuous water dripping sound can not only drive you crazy but there’s also an immense amount of water being wasted in the process. This can be very expensive. Fixing the faucet is unavoidable if you would like to save invaluable water and while keeping your sanity. To get started with the repair process, you should first detect the source of the faucet leak. In this article, we will discuss how to find the source of the leak and how to fix a leaky faucet.
Explore Our Faucet Repair Services Call To Schedule A Free, In-Home Estimate
Where Is The Faucet Leak Coming From?
Take a closer look at the faucet and find the answers to the following questions. Make sure that the area surrounding the faucet is dry before you perform the repair task because this makes identifying a leak much easier. Also, look under the sink to find out if there are any water leaks.
Is the water dripping from the spout even when the faucet is not on? If that is the case, then some or all the internal faucet parts would require replacement, based on the water condition.
When turning the faucet on, does the water leakage happen around the faucet base while the water is flowing out via the spout? If you have answered yes to this question too, then the o-rings around the spout need a replacement.
When turning the faucet on, does the water spray out or leak via the handle top? A stem or cartridge replacement would fix this. However, at times, a simple o-ring replacement could also get the job done.
When the faucet is off, does the water leakage happen only around the faucet base and not the spout? The housing of the faucet could have had a pinhole leakage. This is not the norm but it cannot be ruled out either. In such a scenario, there could be water underneath the sink, inside the cabinet. Inspect all the flex line water supply connections for likely leaks. In case the faucet base is the sole reason for the leak, the faucet would likely require replacement.
However, if your faucet is not displaying the above signs, it’s recommended you get a plumber home for a faucet replacement. However, if you managed to locate the source of the leak, then that’s great news! You will be able to fix it easily. Let us head to the next stage now.
Call Today: (610) 377-1098
Time to Repair Your Faucet
However, prior to attempting anything at all, make sure that you can find the appropriate parts that you will need to fix your faucet. Be aware of the fact that sometimes it is difficult to find the parts to your specific manufacturer and it may be best to contact a reputable plumber.
Finding The Faucet Repair Parts
When looking for a local plumbing parts supplier, call the store or visit it a few times prior to kick-starting your faucet repair work. The best stores tend to have courteous staff and will ensure that you get exactly what you’re looking for. However, do not expect the store to house every plumbing supply material or equipment under the sun. Explain to the store what your repair work entails and find out if the necessary parts are available for purchase. Also, head early to the store. During weekends, the good stores are likely to be busy with DIYers that are also looking for assistance.
Allow For Enough Time
Another thing you must consider – do not bring or develop any preconceived ideas about the repair work and the total time it would take. If you do, then be ready to be disappointed, as even basic plumbing tasks need care and patience for proper completion. Ensure that you have a backup plan in place in case the project does not progress as expected or the issue at hand is a bigger concern. For instance, if there’s a leak in the kitchen faucet, find out if you could make alternate arrangements to source water for a couple of days. Plan beforehand so that you are not taken aback at any point.
Required Tools:
Allen wrench
Flathead screwdriver
Crescent or box end wrench
Rag or drain stopper

How To Fix Your Faucet
First Step: Turn off the faucet’s water connection
Usually, there are shut-off valves which are also called stop valves (a valve each for cold and hot water). They are located below the sink for use during such scenarios. If there is no straight stop or angle valve below the sink, the water connection to the entire house would have to be turned off.
Once the faucet’s water connection has been turned off, open the faucet by moving the handle and confirm there is no water flow at all. At this stage, it is recommended you place a rag, stopper, or anything that will clog the drain to remove any chances of parts going down the drain accidentally. This certainly happens and it certainly does not make the job easier.
Second Step: Take off the faucet handles
The majority of acrylic-style handles come with a cover button to conceal an underlying flat head screw. Usually, single lever handles come with an Allen recessed screw strategically and discreetly camouflaged in a spot that cannot be found easily when the faucet is turned off. You would, therefore, require a flashlight just to get a clear view of things.
Once you have deciphered the handle removal part, use a hex wrench or screwdriver (anything that works) to remove the handle. Normally, you are not required to completely get rid of the Allen screw from the handle while removing the handle. Quite often, a completely removed Allen screw gets easily misplaced or accidentally lost.
Learn More About Our Faucet Repairs Call To Schedule A Free Consultation
Third Step: Remove the retaining nuts
After removing the handle, you will notice a retaining nut holding the inner parts together. These nuts have exterior threads that hold onto the faucet’s primary body, based on the faucet’s primary design. We would suggest you use a crescent or box end wrench for removing the retaining nuts. Some of these nuts also add a cosmetic touch to the faucet and using channel locks or pliers could damage the overall finish.
Fourth Step: Figure out what kind of mechanism your faucet uses
Basically, there are three kinds of internal faucet movement mechanisms :
Compression stems
Ball assemblies
Cartridges
The majority of single control faucets either use a ball assembly or cartridge. Generally, it is easy to differentiate between these styles. For faucets that are single-control faucets, the ball faucets come literally with a ball within (that has a small handle off-shooting from the ball). In case you’ve had a two-handle faucet, you could generally determine your style of the faucet by just turning the handle. If there’s a cartridge in the faucet, the handle would move right or left, turning half or a quarter turn. They stop at the same place every time you move them. In case the handle rotates beyond the halfway mark and keeps rotating 360 degrees till it hits its limit, then the faucet is a compression style variant.
youtube
Fifth Step: Take out the internal working components
TAKE A CLOSE LOOK AND REMEMBER THE SEQUENCE IN WHICH THE INTERNAL FAUCET PARTS ARE REMOVED. This stage is important. Several faucet repair kits do not have an instruction manual, and if the parts are not put back in the order they were taken out, you will have a bigger issue on your hands. We recommend writing things down, or perhaps capturing quick images of the faucet with off handles. You can take a series of photos while removing the components.
Different Internal Faucet Components
If you have a cartridge, you would then simply have to pull out the cartridge straight out. You can clean the ceramic disc cartridge and the rubber seals can get replaced. This will allow for an extended lifespan of your cartridge. However, if the rubber seals are replaced and the reinserted cartridge still gives you a leaking faucet, you would then have to buy a new replacement cartridge. At times, the ceramic discs could get scratched by grit or fine sand in the water, causing the leak.
If you’re getting rid of the retaining nut, with the stem threaded completely and affixed to the nut, then your faucet is a compression-style variant. The stem has a screwed-in washer at the bottom. If the washer’s metal retaining ring is in a good state, then only the washer may need to be replaced. In case the metal ring’s condition is not good, then the whole stem will have to be replaced.
With a ball assembly faucet, after removing the top cap, the cam becomes visible. The cam is essentially a plastic piece that has a lever poking via it. Get rid of the cam washer, cam, and assembly for controlling the lever ball. Inspect the control ball, in case it is scratched or damaged, you may have to replace it. Otherwise, you’ll only have to substitute the rubber valve springs and seats or possibly the o-rings.
Read Our Reviews Click To Schedule An Appointment Now!
Sixth Step: Locate your replacement components
It is ideal if you take the parts off and take them to a store that sells plumbing supplies instead of purchasing replacement parts prior to taking apart the faucet. This will help you avoid risking a return if they are not the right ones. You may look for the components yourself in case the repair kits are displayed on a wall. You can even seek assistance from a salesperson. Either way, do not exit the store until you are completely sure that the parts you’re holding match the ones you brought in. Also, it helps to know the faucet brand that you are attempting to repair. If you are not sure, you can present your pictures to the salesperson who will help you out.
Seventh Step: Reassemble the faucet with the help of replacement components
Here is where your notes or pictures become useful. All you need to do is put things back in the order they were taken off. Do not forget to coat the o-rings using the plumber’s grease. This is typically included in the majority of repair kits. Do not hurry when putting everything back together. Ensure every piece fits properly prior to moving ahead.
Eight Step: Turn on the water supply and look for leaks
In case the faucet is not leaking anymore, head to the next stage. If you are still having an issue and you did not replace all the parts, you should probably go back and replace parts that weren’t replaced before. If all the components were replaced in the first place, you’ll have to get a plumber on-board and get the entire faucet replaced.
Ninth Step: Great job!
The faucet should not be leaking anymore. Congratulate yourself and feel proud of the fact that you managed to bring down your water bill considerably. You also conserved a precious natural resource in the process.
  Conclusion
Hopefully, this article has explained how to fix a leaky faucet and you will be well on your way. However, many homeowners attempt a DIY fix like this and realize halfway through that they made a mistake. When it comes to fixing a leaky faucet, sometimes it is best left to the pros. How To Size A Standby Generator?
Generators can power your home when there is a blackout or if you live in an area where the power supply isn’t available. Generators come in different types, and each has its respective wattage and requirements. One of the most common kinds is the whole-home generators. With this, many ask us “How to size a standby generator?”. In this article, we answer this common question.
Explore Our Generator Services Schedule A Free, In-Home Estimate
What Are Whole-House Generators?
Whole-house generators offer backup power for your home when there are power outages. Natural disasters or man-made mistakes could cause outages. This kind is recommended for extended use. They can power your home completely, including all appliances and devices.
This generator is also known as an emergency generator. They can be large and bulky, but they add a lot of value to your home. They are a highly reliable piece of machinery so you will have peace of mind when using them. The best part is that they don’t need human manipulation as they operate automatically. They turn on automatically when there are outages or interruptions. It also doesn’t need to be turned off as this is entirely automatic as well.
A whole-house generator can power your refrigerator so that your food doesn’t spoil. Your home’s security system is powered as well. This way, you will have continuous security, which is a helpful feature during disasters.
Once you have decided to purchase and install a generator in your home, you must determine the correct size you need first. The whole house generator needs to have sufficient power to operate all appliances, specifically power-hungry ones.
What Is Standby Generator Size?
Purchasing a generator means you need to understand how much power is required to run your home. Generator sizes are based on their electrical output. It isn’t referring to the generator’s physical dimensions, although you need to remember the space it will consume on your property as well.
The measurement of the electrical output is in watts or kilowatts (kW). One kilowatt is equal to a thousand watts, so remember this when determining the size. Most homeowners make mistakes when determining the generator size their house needs. They often underestimate the required wattage, so the generator they end up buying is too small for their needs. The generator ends up overloaded, supplying more power than it can handle. As a result, the generator will overheat and automatically turn off. You don’t want this to happen, as this can end up damaging the generator. On the other hand, a generator that is too large means you’ll pay more to run the unit.
Call Today: (610) 377-1098
How To Size A Standby Generator?
Finding the proper generator size is simple. First, you need a calculator. Identify the devices in your home that you want the generator to power. Check the manual for all big appliances you have to know their required running wattage, which will then be multiplied by three. Make sure to take note of the starting wattage as well. Add all the devices, so you get the total wattage your generator needs to have.
However, you also must understand the meaning of wattages. Starting wattage refers to the initial high load required to start electrical appliances from a dead stop. Keep in mind that some appliances need high starting loads, such as motors and compressors. In contrast, the running load is the required load to keep the device running after it has started initially. Therefore, the formula is as follows: (starting wattage times three) plus running wattage.
For instance, a refrigerator’s starting wattage might be 700 watts. You need to multiply this by three to determine the load on your generator (2100 watts). When the refrigerator is running, it will use 300 watts. Therefore, the total load on your generator will be 2400 watts.
The generator you buy should meet this value so that the refrigerator can run without a hitch. You need to do this calculation on all the appliances and electrical devices in your home. This way, you’ll know the total wattage you need for your generator. Bear in mind that these are the minimum numbers. It is recommended to have some overhead to prevent the generator from overloading and shorting out.

Do I Need Professional Help To Determine Accurate Standby Generator Size?
Conducting a DIY might seem like a tempting idea. However, this is a time-consuming process that might go wrong. One miscalculation could lead to the generator shorting out because of overloading. Therefore, it is a good idea to consult a professional and ask for help.
Hiring a professional will ensure that all electrical devices and appliances are taken into account before the generator is installed. Moreover, a professional will make sure that the generator is wired and installed correctly. They will test the installed generator as well. This way, you can be sure that the generator works as it should and can handle all of the load without any problems. Your whole-house generator also needs to be maintained. This is why having a professional come and help you is an excellent idea. They should check the generator periodically so that it remains in tiptop shape for a long time.

What Is #2 Heating Oil?
Winter can be quite a difficult time for some U.S. regions. Therefore, reliable heating is needed to ensure your household’s safety and comfort. Furnace tune-ups and stocking up on heating oil are essential as well. However, there are various types of heating oil that have their own characteristics and use. The most common kinds of heating oil are kerosene, #1 heating oil, and diesel fuel. #2 heating oil is the most crucial one for home heating needs.

What Are The Different Types Of Heating Oils?
Fuel oils are byproducts of crude oil. It undergoes a distillation process, with different types coming from various stages. Fuel oils can produce a lot of heat during furnace combustion. These distillates have different weights because of the various refinement degrees they went through. Here are the common fuel oils listed from lightest to heaviest:
1. Kerosene
Kerosene is the lightest fuel oil is made through the refinement and filtration of #1 fuel oil. As a result, this fuel oil has a clean burn that makes it safe to use inside. It has features such as low viscosity and boiling point. This type is frequently utilized as a power source for portable heating units. For instance, it is used in new construction sites and other places where there are no furnaces installed. Kerosene is also commonly used during camping trips and power blackouts. After all, kerosene-powered lamps can last for long periods. Some are even equipped with odor suppressors and beautiful designs.

2. #1 Fuel Oil
Many similarities can be expected between kerosene and #1 fuel oil. After all, kerosene is a derivative of #1 fuel oil. Some of their differences are that Number 1 fuel oil is a little heavier, has more impurities, and has a higher viscosity. This is because this fuel oil has less processing time. Its common applications are in portable stoves and heaters for outdoor use. They are not suitable for indoor use because they do not have a clean burn. The exhaust fumes it emits can be toxic when breathed in. Using it outside means the impurities are diluted in the air, so it is not as harmful.
3. Diesel Fuel
This is probably the most familiar as this fuel oil is widely used in the country. It has two types, namely, untaxed and taxed. The former is easy to recognize because of its red color. They are typically used in off-road vehicles and construction equipment. It contains low sulfur, so it is considered an eco-friendly liquid. On the other hand, taxed diesel has a natural light green tone because it doesn’t contain any dye. It is mostly used for cars and trucks. What makes these two types differ from one another is their prices. Diesel can be blended with Number 1 fuel oil if you want to use it for residential heating. This is because doing so helps lessen the sludge formation during winter. However, you should consult a heating technician before using this mix.
4. #2 Fuel Oil
Essentially, diesel oil and Number 2 fuel oil have the same chemical composition. Their primary difference is how they are used. Number 2 fuel oil is tax-free so that the prices are kept low at all times. This is because it is used for home heating, making it a vital need every winter. It is used in boilers and furnaces and has the same red dye as untaxed diesel fuel. Since it is used for residential heating, many call it home heating oil.
Number 2 fuel oil is often blended with #1 fuel oil. This allows it to have lower viscosity and higher efficiency levels. Some oil companies refer to this as the home heating oil winter blend or kerosene mix.
As there are many similarities between #2 and number 1 fuel oils, they can supposedly be used interchangeably. However, this is not generally practiced. If your furnace runs out of fuel, you can go to the nearest fuel pump and buy diesel to power your furnace. It is not recommended that you do this for more than necessary because diesel is costlier than Number 2 fuel oil. However, it can be used for emergencies.
However, bear in mind that you must never use Number 2 fuel oil in your car. This is illegal, and you could end up getting charged if cops catch you using red-dyed fuel. Make sure to follow the law and use each fuel oil for its intended use at all times.

#2 Fuel Oil For Home Heating
Number 2 fuel oil is the most commonly used fuel oil out of all the above heating oil options. This is because it generates the largest amount of heat, as can be attested by its British Thermal Unit (BTU) rating.
During fuel oil delivery, companies send trucks filled with #2 fuel oil. The delivery personnel will also inform their clients if they have other blends that may be more fitting to use, depending on the regional temperatures and the home’s oil tank. You might have an aboveground tank installed in your home. If this is the case, it is exposed to the cold weather, so you can opt to use a blend of Number two and Number 1 fuel oils. When blended in different ratios, it creates a mixture that is less likely to form sludge. If you are looking for a mix with a cleaner burn, you can use a blend of kerosene and Number 2 fuel oil.

The Biggest Changes In HVAC Technology Over The Last 10 Years
Ingenuity has allowed us to solve the problems that we have encountered through the years. We have survived in any environment because of it as well. Life has surely become better because of the new technologies that are serving us today. The HVAC industry has also seen its fair share of innovations. While our ancestors had to chop wood for heating, we only need to turn up the thermostat to ensure comfort throughout our home. We also have air conditioners to keep us cool during hot days. The past ten years have seen significant improvements in HVAC technology. Read on to find the biggest changes that have happened since then.

The Biggest Changes In HVAC Technology Over The Last 10 Years
Several of the biggest changes in heating and cooling technology include the following:
1. Higher HVAC Equipment Efficiency
Only a few homes could afford to have HVAC systems installed back in the day. The systems also used to be large and bulky, taking up a huge amount of space in homes. Furthermore, they uses to be quite expensive to operate.
Fortunately, many great improvements have happened with modern HVAC units. They are now more efficient, so they use less energy when keeping homes comfortable. This also means that you will have reduced utility bills, saving you more money in the long run. Furnaces also consume less fuel during the winter. Another benefit is modern HVAC equipment is environmentally friendlier, a feature that many eco-conscious consumers are looking for.
2. R-22 Refrigerant Phase-Out
Refrigerants are the lifeblood of air conditioning units. However, older kinds cause harm to our ozone layer. This part of the atmosphere is what absorbs most of the UV radiation from the sun. Its depletion means that exposure to the sun leads to a higher risk of cataracts, skin cancer, and other problems. It also negatively affects marine life, plants, and more.
As a result, manufacturers shifted to using new refrigerant formulations that do not have such a high environmental impact. R22 refrigerant was banned in 2010 for newly manufactured machines.  It was still in use on existing machines. The ban was further elevated in 2020, where it is no longer legal to produce or import. As a result, older systems should be replaced or retrofitted so they can work using eco-friendlier refrigerants like R-410a.

3. Smart HVAC Technologies
All tech companies encourage everyone to have smart homes with the introduction of their smart technologies. Many appliances are now equipped with WiFi capabilities, so you can access and control them using your smartphone. This way, you can view historical statistics or check their status. For example, you might have forgotten to turn off your cooling system, but you’re already in the office. You don’t have to go back home as you can use your phone to control your HVAC unit at home. This helps prevent energy waste. You can also turn your AC on 15 minutes before you arrive home, so a cool and comfy home welcomes you despite the hot summer weather outside.
4. Ductless Heating & Cooling Systems
Many homes utilize central cooling systems. This type of system needs ductwork to distribute conditioned air throughout the house. However, this might not be practical in some cases. For instance, your house may not be fitted with ducts as it was built before central air conditioners became widely used. It could be expensive and a hassle to have your home renovated to install ducts. Therefore, you can install a ductless HVAC system instead. Also known as ductless heat pumps or mini-split systems, this system consists of an indoor air handler and an outdoor condenser that can heat or cool a single room or zone. This type of system reduces noise, provides better temperature control, and has increased system efficiency.
5. HVAC Zoning Systems
HVAC zoning systems are another common strategy used in larger homes. It is an excellent solution if your standard HVAC system cannot adequately heat or cool your entire home or office. Each zone will have its own thermostat so the homeowners can better control and monitor the temperatures. The ducts will also be fitted with dampers. This way, everyone in the household feels more comfortable while also saving on costs and energy.

6. Sensor-Driven HVAC Ventilation
Ventilation isn’t always prioritized, but it is an important aspect in achieving overall comfort. The year 2016 saw the introduction of smart ventilation systems on the market. This configuration allows you to check the airflow in all vents around your house. This is a useful feature when finding and removing blockages. It can also let you switch off the vents in rooms that are not used to save energy. Some of the tasks can be automated as well.
7. Air Conditioners Have Variable-Speed Compressors
Newer air conditioners have variable-speed compressors. This means that the system is highly energy-efficient, produces less noise, and offers enhanced humidity and temperature control. It also allows your system to adapt to the shifting ambient conditions easily. For instance, a light load will cause the variable-speed compressor to slow down while a heavy load speeds it up. You also don’t have to worry about starting surges as it has improved power supply quality. Air conditioners with variable-speed compressors also have extended lifespans and provide homeowners with increased comfort. Its highly efficient feature also means lower running costs.
