△;— - Tourmaline found delight in recording the ocean’s fluctuations. Earth certainly had its quirks and the beaches especially hit home. Each planet he’d visited had its own unique charm that was subjected to it alone, but he liked Earth’s “unique charm” the most. It was a very simplistic one, really, but that was the point. The ocean, at first glance, would appear so simple. But a deeper dive revealed something more fascinating. 

              The green gem took his time strolling across the beach. The waves rolled off and on the shore with the ocean’s breath. His pace began to slow as something else caught his attention. It was only a few feet away...Oh? It seems he wasn’t the only one on the beach. This was a new sight. Whoever she was, she did not appear to be human- most likely a gem. It looks as though she’s been there for quite some time. Tourmaline was perplexed. Would it be safer to leaver her alone? But who was she? What was she doing here? Curiosity, as usual, took control and he decided to approach her. ❝Ah, excusez-moi, is everything alright here?❞

[ She’s sitting on the beach, and she probably has been for a while. Sitting out in the sand, letting the water reach up just far enough to touch her toes before retreating again. She must be lost in thought because she hasn’t even noticed she isn’t alone anymore. ]

He’s not quite sure, really. He may have had one…but he may have not either. As of right now, he’s awfully oblivious to romantic advances as well as any signs of love. He can charm someone quite well, even if doesn’t know it, but that’s just it.

✕ - How do they handle rejection?

In a business perspective, Tourmaline is usually the one to do the rejecting. If he were to face rejection in this sense, he would simply move on to the next patron. There are always more opportunities. In a romantic perspective, he’s never gone so far with anyone to experience rejection. If he were to be rejected in such a sense, he would be shocked. Tourmaline has great confidence in his statements with facts to support them. To be told “you are wrong” would be a bit astonishing for him. He will not demean the individual, but rather contemplate on what he could have done wrong and possibly go into a state of unusual depression.

♔ - Do they value loyalty?

Tourmaline does value loyalty to a considerable extent.  He is aware that loyalty and honesty are not found around every corner. He knows it cannot be demanded to easily in most circumstances. But when loyalty does come around, he’s highly appreciative of it. 

♕ - Do they trust easily?

He normally has a decent perception of character. He knows when and where trust is due. If at first he does seem gullible, that is because he’s prepared for the consequences and is willing to explore or have some excitement. 

♥ - What does ‘love’ mean to them?

Tourmaline…never focused on the sentimental part of life. Love never interested him. He may have felt it before, but he cannot remember. From observations, love means not being able to sleep at night knowing that your dream is already right next to you. Love means being willing to give up part of yourself for the betterment of another. Love means accepting one another through all your faults. Love means being able to walk in the park without needing to say a single word to bring comfort. But, these meanings are only observations. He can never truly tell himself.

♠ - What are they afraid of?

He is not afraid of much- or anything for that matter. He is not afraid of death, because he knows it will come eventually. He is not afraid of pain because he knows it will pass. He is not afraid of danger, because he knows there is always a way around or through it. He’s not afraid of never knowing who he was, because he can always resort to knowing something else.

△;— - Of course Tourmaline was alone, when was he ever not?  Tourmaline nearly scoffed, ❝There is no need to worry, I will not bring harm unless it is brought to me first.❞ He really did stick to the code that he would only draw his sword when needed. 

             Protect the Earth? To be honest, he wouldn’t mind if the planet was destroyed. There were countless other planets in the galaxy he could have primary focus on. But in no way would he try to hasten the process. It was not in his place or desire to intrude. Rather, he’d let it go at its own pace. ❝ So I believe it is safe to  presume that you have some relation with the Crystal Gems. What with the talk of ‘protecting the planet’, that is. If not...you might as well should be. ❞   

Malachite adjusted his visor, closing his eyes one more time to make sure that Tourmaline was alone. The last thing he needed right now was another group of possibly aggressive gems arriving on the planet. However, this newcomer didn’t seem too eager for conflict, which relieved the tall get quite a bit.

He crossed his arms as well, mainly because it was a habit. “I help to protect this planet from threats. As of now, you’ve not shown yourself to be a threat, but things can change very quickly.”

+headcanon- a broken gem is a useless gem, a useless gem is a broken gem

Tourmaline used to be part of a sub aristocratic class on Homeworld. He was a member of a highly esteemed guild. He had exceptional combat skills and militaristic knowledge, and through this he was given high expectations. The most he could have done was serve the Diamonds or even fight alongside them. However his mindset was not the same. He had no interest in serving the Diamonds or anything of the such. He’d chosen to be initiated into the guild simply because he wanted to be around other gems who sought out knowledge.  He’d spend his time in his chambers, reading about other galaxies, planets, and their inhabitants. Tourmaline was interested in everything but serving the Diamonds. He proved to be stubborn towards his superiors and their orders. His potential was in vain. 

 A member of the society remained as such until death. Such a “problem gem” would be detrimental to the guild’s reputation and must be erased. Moldavite, one of the society’s executives, was intent on carrying it out. She and Tourmaline were equals in combat, but Moldavite did not come alone. She’d brought along four other gems to assist her to tip the balance. With Tourmaline distracted, she landed a deep blow, fracturing Tourmaline’s gem. Now that Tourmaline was significantly weakened, Moldavite left her assistants to finish the job. She knew he was a rather resilient gem, but her intention was not to kill him anyway. She only aimed to keep him out and away from Homeworld long enough to erase all records of him. So that if he were ever to find his way back, the gems would have forgotten him. 

Now that his physical form had retreated into his gravely injured gem, Tourmaline was sent off Homeworld in a small ship to a dark, quiet place in the outer rim of the Milky Way called Grissom. His heightened regeneration powers prevented his gem from completely falling apart and thus death or corruption (in which it was dangerously close), but there was a cost. He’d lost any memory of his life before being sent to Grissom. 

Upon regaining his physical form, Tourmaline’s memory of Homeworld and the guild had completely vanished. He only remembered his training, but did not know how he learned it. It was as if they were preset mechanisms. He hadn’t bothered to find out who he was or how he came to Grissom. It did not interest him. Although he’s completely recovered, his past vision can only give him vague glimpses of his pre-damaged gem life. To do so, however, is unbelievably strenuous and painful due to the extreme damage done to his gem.
