His first every modelling job, now complete, had left a strong impression on Koda. He wonders, as he sits down in front of the camera and tucks his hair behind his ear, if any of his future jobs will be able to live up to the standard that Taiyou had set. He’d provided drinks, checked up on them throughout shooting, and taken then to dinner after all the shooting was done. It had been, much to Koda’s relief, an extremely easy and enjoyable first job, and one that he hoped would set the tone for the rest of his career. It had done what he’d hoped it would do—reassured him that he’d made the right decision to make a move from idol trainee to model. This was the first real decision he’d made about his career since deciding to audition for Legacy in the first place. Finally, he felt like he had an idea of what he wanted out of life. He was beginning to feel passionate.
Once seated, they begin with the questions. ‘So, tell us your first impressions of the SOLA products.’ The person behind the camera asks, and Koda straightens his back a little, and smiles at the memory of when he’d first seen the sunglasses. “When I first saw them, I was initially really pleased that I was going to be modelling something that I felt fit my style so well, but then I got to hold them and wear them, and the quality is outstanding. The two pairs are a really perfect pair. I really couldn’t pick a favourite between the SOL.a and LUN.a glasses. Both are really my style, and while the SOL.a glasses look great as a statement piece for an outfit, the LUN.a pair are really practical and sturdy, yet still beautiful.” He doesn’t need to play up his love of the products—every word he says is the truth. Even so, he wants to help sell them, help make Taiyou proud.
‘And, how did you feel about the cf? Do you think it complimented the products?’ Koda licks his lips before replying, not needing to think long and hard about his answer. “Yes, I think it complimented them incredibly well. The concept of young people traversing the city, I think, really fits with the sunglasses. They feel like a fashionable, yet practical, item, at least in LUN.a’s case. But, SOL.a are just as important and necessary—who doesn’t need an incredible, cannot-miss element of their outfit? The cf really helps to highlight that, and really shows just who they’re aimed at.” Koda knows he himself is going to want to own a pair of each, since he’d become so fond of them over the course of the photoshoots and filming.
She asks more questions, all of which Koda finds easy to answer, and then finally reaches what must be her last, as she lays her paper down on her lap and asks the question without looking at it. ‘Lastly, would you buy the SOLA products?’ His response is instantaneous. “Absolutely. I’m already mentally pairing both with outfits whenever I’m getting dressed. I just know I’m going to want both, because I simply can’t live without one or the other.” With that, it seems their finished, and Koda’s let go, sent off back to his regular schedule. Soon, he thinks, this will be his life most of the time; off doing photoshoots, and using the time he’s not working to think about other things he’d like to do. At some point, down the line, he know he’d like to get into acting, but for now, he thinks, he wants to make sure his modelling career is solid, and he can trust that he’s going to be in it for the long run.

𝐓𝐀𝐈𝐘𝐎𝐔:
Just hearing the tone of Koda’s voice is enough to make Taiyou smile, broad with a hint of shyness to it. Of course, he wants his own brand models to enjoy themselves, but to hear that they are feels like the greatest accomplishment. Up until this point, he has been grateful for all his opportunities and surprised by the care of most of the staff he’s encountered from various jobs, so it seems only right to want to put some of that back into his own brand. More than that, this is who he is as a person, so of course Koda’s enthusiasm hits even deeper.
“It’s definitely a lot more work than setting you guys free around the city,” Taiyou replies with a soft laugh, “though I do wish you all could have had a warm day instead.” Taiyou’s laugh grows louder, easier with his second comment, a sign that he’s at ease, somewhat. Koda seems genuinely nice, he notes to himself, pleased. He had made it a point to not pick any one he knew personally, just on principle for his release, but that didn’t mean Taiyou hadn’t been somewhat concerned. The dynamic of his models was important since they were required to act as if they had been friends for years.
“That’s fine,” Taiyou hums with a small indifferent tip of his head. “Perhaps if my product was a skateboard or shoes, I would have made that a requirement, but as long as you don’t hurt yourself I’m happy. Well, and you look handsome, which helps,” he adds teasingly.  If none of them had been able to, of course Taiyou would have had them improvise, but he is satisfied as it is with the turn out. To one side, some noises catch his attention, and he watches intently for a moment as the director seems to be setting up for the next shot. “Maybe when this is all over, I’ll take you all out to eat.”
Seeing how everything ran—like a well-oiled machine most of the time—was surprisingly interesting to Koda. He liked to see the process of it all, see who was responsible for making things look so good. These professional camermen knew just how to get someone from the right angle, or how to shoot something in such a way that it looked even more incredible than in real life. He supposes that’s their jobs, and they’ve got to be good at it, but it’s still fascinating to see nonetheless. He’s frankly still in shock that he’s even here, and that there wasn’t some mix up in deciding who got picked. Sure, Koda knows he’s tall, and broad but still slender, he’s got full lips and good skin, and hair that stylists seem to love playing with, since they don’t often get guys with long hair, he guesses, but it’s strange knowing he was actually chosen. That someone say a picture of him and went ‘yes, i want him to help sell my product’.
“I’m having a great time, regardless of the weather.” He’s glad that Taiyou seems nice and attentive, and doesn’t just see Koda and the other models as mere mannequins for his glasses. From the drinks, to the making sure they’re having a good time, making sure they’re comfortable and answering questions—Koda just know’s he’s going to want to work with him again, and perhaps, if he’s lucky, keep in touch and ask for tips here and there. “Well, I’m pretty good at not falling off at least.” He reassures him with a light laugh, trying to relax more. Taiyou’s older, more experienced, is sort of his boss and he hand-picked Koda—all that put together has Koda feeling nervous, as if he may say something by accident that makes Taiyou disapprove of him. It’s unlikely, since Koda rarely says anything wrong, but he can’t help but be nervous.
“Really? That’s so nice of you.” Koda says, blinking a little in shock that Taiyou would go to so much effort for them, when he’s pretty sure he didn’t know any of them prior to this. “Thank you, by the way... For picking me. It’s my first real chance modelling, so I really hope I don’t disappoint.” He realises suddenly that above all, he wants to make Taiyou feel like he made the right decision in Koda. He might look the part, but there’s more to modelling that simply standing around. He had to perfect his angles, his expressions, the art of looking entirely comfortable when he’s been standing around for hours already, and may be cold, or bored, or tired. But, this is what he wants to do, and he’s finding that the more he sees of the process, and the more he takes part in it, the more passionate he feels about it all, and more sure in his resolve to make this his main focus.

𝐓𝐀𝐈𝐘𝐎𝐔:
Despite how sunny it was, there was no denying how cold it actually was beyond the camera lens. When Taiyou had pitched the idea for his cf, he hadn’t really considered the fact that his models would be filming so late in the year — the image in his head had leaned more late-spring or early-summer— but it was a bit too late for that. Concessions had been made, swapping out short sleeves for hoodies and trendy puffer coats because still Taiyou had been adamant that he wanted to keep the sense of freedom he had envisioned.
He had used his own money to buy the kids warm beverages to hold and drink between locations, and tried to thank them as earnestly as he could when he could.
“You’re doing great,” Taiyou commented, voice low and warm as he approached @lgckoda. Unable to help himself, he reached up to pick at and fix the younger man’s hair, gently rearranging the strands around the sunglasses he had requested the stylist to give Koda. “I hope you’re having fun?” He inquired hopefully, pulling his hands back to tuck neatly back into his pockets. “Have you skateboarded before?”
This means so much to Koda. This first big, real chance to prove he can be a good model, that this is what he was made for, that he’s serious about this. He’d not expected to get such a good job right off the bat—he’d thought he’d have to do pizza commercials or something wholly unsuited to him until he got picked up for something that was far more him. But this... Koda feels like he was made for SOLA. Knowing one of his seniors had hand-picked him for this, though, surely made it nerve-wracking. He absolutely could not let Taiyou down. He’d given Koda a helping hand when he most needed that assurance that he could do this; he could be a model. If it weren’t for this opportunity, Koda isn’t sure he’d have made his final decision to really commit to full-time modelling.
The whole experience was new to him, but he’d been shocked by how much standing around he’d had to do so far. He didn’t dislike it though, on the contrary, he found he was interested in all the things that went into the behind-the-scenes of a photoshoot and CF, so he didn’t mind wandering around and watching the camera operators, set designers, costume department, makeup department and everyone else work their butts off to make sure everything ran smoothly. Koda was such a small cog in the machine, and yet he found it fit him well, as he stood with a cup of hot chocolate in his hands.
Taiyou feels, already, like a sort of big brother, though Koda knows he’s sort of, in a way, his boss right now. He’s been so kind, buying them drinks and encouraging Koda, and he’d quickly decided he was someone he needed to look up to as a role-model. “Lots of fun! It’s really interesting seeing how important everyone’s roles are, and how much work goes into it.” He stands very still to let him fix his hair and make him look exactly how he wants him to look. Koda had perfected standing still by now. “A bit, back when I was a bit younger. I can’t really do too many tricks though, just the basics I’m afraid.” He’d been rather surprised to find out his pretty basic skills in skateboarding would come in handy for this.

𝐒𝐄𝐎𝐉𝐈𝐍:
Uncertainty was the word lf the day. Seojin bathed in it that morning, only to be met with a barrage of it during the practice for the trainee showcase. There was no telling how much the instructors and other staff had riding on the performance of the group. For all they knew, this could all simply be a test to stretch their perseverance and ability to work with others. Seojin, surely, had no qualms with the latter but when paired with others he knew so little about ( in terms of skill and predictability ), his stomach was rife with a sinking feeling once more. ( Was this how anxiety felt like? )
He rung the stem of a microphone like a wet towel, easing up only when a concerned staff member urged him to be careful with the equipment. Heaven forbid he end up breaking one or two before rehearsals even began. Though, he was well aware his touch was less than delicate — in more ways than one.
“Hey, so…” Seojin turned toward his assigned partner for the stage, a large cup of room temperature water swiped from the staff pushed in his direction. ( To think they would put him up with Koda, of all people. Perhaps the higher ups knew of their strained relationship as roommates. ) “You’ve been practicing lots, right? Did warm ups… taking care of your throat and vocal chords? You have to drink a shitton of water before we go up. This song’s got a real breathy tone to it.”
He rambled without much prompt but any observant individual could glean that Seojin was intensely serious and dedicated to the craft of singing, even going so far as to craft his diet and exercise routine around fortifying it. One could call him overzealous. Perhaps therein lay an issue of his with Koda, offended by his perceived lack of enthusiasm.
“Just don’t mess up, dude.” He finished with a sardonic tone. Of course, no one would claim he was skilled in the art of reassurance, particularly with such an affinity for playing it off as a joke.
Koda knew he wasn’t as invested in all this as Seojin was, but that didn’t mean he was going to slack off. Sure, they might not be the best of buds, but he wasn’t oblivious to that fact that Seojin needed to do well, and Koda wasn’t about to sabotage him by giving a lacklustre performance, especially given it would be his last as a trainee with his sights on an idol debut. After this, he’d not longer have to worry about singing and dancing, he’d be focusing purely on making sure products got sold—damn, when phrased that way he was suddenly acutely aware of how deeply entrenched in capitalism he was about to become. Just a cog in the machine. But hey, if someone has to make products look cute, then Koda’s the man for the job.
This, however, isn’t about selling anything other than the beauty of a song, and Koda appreciates that enough to put his all into it. “Yes, I promise I’ve been practising my ass off.” He’s a little bothered by the way Seojin seems to treat him like a child who doesn’t know what he’s doing, when he’s been a trainee for a long time now. He knows the ropes, he knows how to look after his voice, and how to prepare for a performance. He doesn’t need Seojin holding his hand all the way through.
Perhaps he’s being a little harsh, he thinks, as he, purely to please Seojin, takes a long drink of water. This means so much to him, he must be kind of on edge, especially when paired with Koda, who has never tried to hide how he’s unsure of his future. Seojin knows what he wants, and where he’s got to be, and how to get there, but Koda’s never quite really had that certainty in himself, his future, his journey, his goals. Koda enjoys a variety of things, and only recently really made a confident step in one direction. It’s not the direction that will have him singing more, though, and maybe this is putting Seojin on the defensive, worried that Koda won’t take this seriously, because it ‘doesn’t matter’ in his journey anymore.
But that’s not entirely true. Koda likes performing, and singing, and dancing, and he’s excited to give it one last go before he moves on. He wants to put on the best performance of his life before he heads off to be a full-time model. “I don’t plan to. This means a lot to me too. I’m not here to mess around.” He assures him, rolling his neck from side to side, loosening his muscles to make sure he’s absolutely ready to sing.

( yesteryear )
𝐒𝐎𝐎𝐀𝐇:
this one is for you, @lgckoda
christmas was a time of joy to many. a time of fun and merriment. to sooah, it was the time of the year where new york looked its dirtiest with the muk-coloured snow, the black ice and the yellow snow. yes, the snowscape city was gorgeous but actually walking through it was something else. it was a struggle every day to get to school. and once the holidays came along, she spent it alone. almost every year. it was a treat when her mother didn’t have to work on christmas for either one of her jobs. eventually sooah stopped caring.
but there’s a movement of “reclaiming your childhood” and now that she has the money, the family and the capability to have a true christmas, she wants to do it more. which brings her to lotte world to buy silly christmas decorations to fill her silly little section of her dorm to heal her silly little inner child for the lack of christmases growing up. she’d even purchase a mini tree to put presents under from her family in korea. her mother would probably send her something as well but she wasn’t counting on it. not this year.
“you know i made a list but i’m probably not going to follow it,” she says with a sigh as she scrolls down the note on her phone. in the middle of the night sooah had gotten inspired to be more organised on her shopping trip. she had made a carefully curated list that accounts for the different areas of her room that she could decorate and with what. she then texted koda and said that he was coming along. “knowing me, i’ll just pick up what i find cute.”
sooah doesn’t know why she even attempts to be organised. it’ll only end with chaos and more money spent than need be.
Koda has always loved Christmas. Back in the commune they’d not exactly called it that, and it hadn’t really been on the twenty-fifth all the time, but they’d celebrated the Winter Solstice on the shortest day of the year. They’d cooked, made fires, exchanged small gifts, mostly hand-made things, and played a lot of games and sang songs. Christmas had been a little more ‘normal’ after they’d left the commune, with gifts bought from the stores, and a tree decorated with baubles and lights and tinsel. He’d like both versions of it, and had taken a bit of both types of celebrations with him into adulthood. He’d put up a little tree in the dorm, and hung stockings on the end of every bed, but he’d also been planning to bake some reindeer cookies and wassail for his dormmates.
He didn’t forget about gifts though, he’d just left it a little late. So, when Sooah told him he was going out with her, he didn’t argue—he needed to get some stuff, but more importantly, he was always pleased to spend time with her. “I have a mental list, but I’ll probably just do the same. No use making a list and sticking to it if you end up finding they don’t have what you want, but have a ton of other cute stuff instead.” He peers around as he speaks, hoping something with catch his eye. The stores were all decorated for the season, with garlands of fake holly and pine needles stuck to their doors and windows. Lights twinkle around them, and he’s pretty sure he spotted an arrow pointing to Santa’s grotto not long ago.
“Do you want to go sit on Santa’s lap after this?” He asks with a smirk, bumping his hip against hers. Then, after a pause he asks, “So, what do you need to get? Have you already got all your presents? I still have no idea what to get a couple of my dormmates. It’s hard when he’s so close to some, and yet not close at all to others. “I thought about wrapping myself up in a big bow to give myself to Hyoseop, what do you think?” Of course, he’s not actually going to do that, he’d already bought him a few things, but he thought the mental image was pretty amusing.

Surprisingly, Koda’s been having a lot of fun during the bootcamp. Yes, there’s a constant level of tension running through all the boys, each one of them hoping to make it somehow, but for Koda this is his last little stint as a trainee working towards an idol debut. After this, he moves on to dedicating himself to other things, and while he’s looking forward to it, he knows he’ll miss the fun of a performance. He’s just glad he’s going to get a good send-off. These performances showcase his best skills, and he’s really proud of how much he’s put into it all so far. He’d taken extra time to really perfect what eh was showing, knowing he would never forgive himself if he didn’t try his hardest to prove he’d have been a great idol, even if it wasn’t where he was headed.
New Rules was a song Koda had liked since he’d first heard Type Zero perform it. The choreography was fun, and Koda felt he suited the concept pretty well. Even so, there was always room for improvement, so every day when he had his self-led practise time he’d focus on not just the finer details of a dance, or the little bits of personality he liked to put into his voice in the songs, but he’d also focus on his expressions, the way he held himself on stage, his overall presence and charisma. He needed to capture people’s attention, not just dance or sing well. There’s more to being an idol than just singing or dancing, and though Koda knows he’ll never be an idol, this is his last chance to play as one for a little bit.
When they’d been given the line distributions for the song Koda had been thrilled to learn he had the last line, he’d be ending the song, and he wanted to go out with a bang. So, he’d been doing the dance for the song all afternoon, staring at himself in the mirror and working on making his gaze match the lyrics, match the feeling of the song. It’s hard to really judge, he thinks, as he watches himself go through the motions for what feels like the 500th time. Perhaps it’s something he needs to ask someone else for help with, or it’s all up to personal taste, but he doesn’t want to look silly, rather than cool. So, he decides to record himself, over and over again.
There are other things, besides the performing, that Koda will miss when he becomes a dedicated model. He’ll miss living with Hyoseop, for sure, he’ll miss being in the company building every day and having lunch with his friends. He’ll miss the regularity of his schedule, of knowing what he’ll be doing every single day. Of course, he’ll know his schedule when he’s modelling, but the days will all be different, the timings changing, the people around him unfamiliar, and for a moment he’s scared. It’s going to be such a huge change, and suddenly he’s not sure if he’s ready.
Better focus on the dance.
Koda goes through it again, and again, and again, until his mind is blank once more and he’s just focusing on his performance, not his possible impending doom. The what-ifs are just a little too much to think about right now, and Koda would rather focus on making sure he does this final thing well. His last performances.

𝐘𝐎𝐇𝐀𝐍:
if anything, after hearing the news of the new additions for v&a, it spurred yohan to work even harder. deep down, he knew there were those higher up who were always on the look out for who was debut ready, hell, this was the whole point of the debut bootcamp. to see who was debut ready, and to improve your skills. but it still didn’t stop the yearning feeling yohan felt deep within him, and sure, he felt a little but gutted that he wasn’t one of those chosen ones, but at the same time, part of him is glad. he didn’t feel like he was completely ready just yet, he was critical, hard working and he wanted to be better, he wanted to improve before he had any sort of opportunity to shine like that. so that’s why he chooses to focus and practice harder, to ace this choreography as best as he possibly can. it was a chance to show his skills, and he just hopes someone see’s his skills.
Tumblr media
when koda starts bouncing over, yohan chuckles at the sight of him, watching as he plops himself down and lays against his leg. “really?” yohan asks, amused expression on his face as he chuckles softly. breaks were much needed, especially in times like this, when the tension was high and everyone wanted to do the best they could, yohan included. he didn’t expect for his lap or leg to become a seat, but this was koda, so he just lets the other rest against him while they chatted. “it is, isn’t it? i wasn’t sure how i’d look doing it, it’s not something i’ve done too much before but it’s fun, so i must look good while i dance, huh?” he teases gently before taking another long few sips from his water bottle, placing it down beside him on the floor. his eyes squint at the boy beneath, a small pout shifting onto his features and he shuffles himself on the spot to annoy koda. “or maybe your knees hurt because you’re always on them.” he retorts back with a little smirk, playfully flicking koda’s cheek. “my knees are fine, thank you, i’m not that much shorter than you!”
Koda thought about his future when faced with the realisation that he’d likely never be like Tee, Keeho and Wookjin. Koda would never debut as an idol, and if he wasn’t more realistic about it, he’d end up a washed up trainee with nowhere to go but down. It seemed obvious, once he looked at those three, that his future didn’t lie in an idol group, but there was still hope for him in modelling, and if he was really lucky, maybe one day acting too. He’d like that, he thinks, imagining himself as the male lead in a drama, being the bad boy on the motorbike that everyone warns the main character off of because he’s bad news, but he wins her heart anyway, even though the nerdy, but sweet boy-next-door keeps getting in the way. That’s the future that excites Koda. Not that being an idol doesn’t seem exciting, but he can’t really see the passion in himself that he can see in the other boys around him.
Tumblr media
“Mmm, you always look good, Yohanie.” He replies, looking up at him from his lap. He likes that he can be close like this with Yohan and know that he’s not making him uncomfortable or crossing any lines—they’re comfortable in their friendship and it makes him all the more fond of the other boy. Though the wriggling is annoying, and he can just feel the back of his hair getting all messed up, but at least they’re only dancing and he doesn’t have to worry about how he looks too much. It’s not the wriggling that catches him off guard though, it’s what Yohan says that makes Koda gasp in mock horror. “Are you calling me a whore?!” He whispers to him, in case someone else were to me within earshot of their conversation. Then, with a pretend-offended pout on his lips he replies, “Maybe you’re not on yours enough.”

( just dormmates )
𝐇𝐘𝐎𝐒𝐄𝐎𝐏:
he hadn’t had dormmates before, well… he had lived with his parents if that counted. at sixteen he moved to seoul, and with how big the house was and his dad barely being home it kind of did just feel like he lived alone. he moved out at eighteen into his own place, his actual own place, not just some mansion where it felt like your own place because it was a maze and it felt like you’d never see people again. probably an exaggeration, it was big yeah, but the main reason for it feeling like nobody else living there was just because his dad was so busy. he could’ve stayed with his dad longer probably, but he was quick to move out when he got the chance.
he was twenty-two upon his arrival in legacy and his entering into their dorms, it definitely did feel weird having dormmates after so long of living alone. in the beginning he perhaps wasn’t the biggest fan, it feeling like there lacked privacy, like you couldn’t walk around half naked and invite random people over, though i’m not sure how much hyoseop cared about the ‘half naked’ part as he was often not wearing any shirt, it was warm! or something… but he’d grown to like it. hyoseop was surprisingly (or not surprisingly?) a man with not many friends, most people left or he left, it was kind of hard to leave when you lived together. so now hyoseop constantly had people he could go to when bored, and he didn’t even have to walk far.
something in hyoseop felt like there was some unspoken rule that you shouldn’t flirt with dormmates, but hyoseop had also never been the best to follow rules. and he can’t really help it, maybe if koda wasn’t so… koda? hyoseop would be able to hold back. he listens with a smile as the other speaks, genuinely interested. he pretends to stretch and yawn, his arm landing around the other’s shoulder and pulling them closer, “i always miss you, y’know?”. and there was a lot of thoughts going through his head at once, yet he ignored them all somehow. “what did you eat while overseas? you’re glowing” he smiles to the other. “ah” he takes his arm back reaching into his own pocket. “your lips look dry” he pulls up a chapstick removing the lid, “can i?” he lifts the chapstick, trying to imply if he can apply it to the other’s lips.
Living with so many people during his childhood had successfully cured Koda of any future preciousness about his personal space and belongings. He didn’t mind sharing, and wasn’t that that bothered by having to share his space with other guys, but the prospect of getting his own place eventually did excite him—he just wanted to decorate all by himself and have somewhere a little more private to invite friends over to. But, in the meantime, he’s enjoying sharing a dorm with guys he gets along with at least, especially Hyoseop. In fact, Koda thinks he might just miss Hyoseop the most when he moves out—he makes a mental note to make sure he invite him over as often as possible when he finally moves out.
Hyoseop’s easy to relax around, and Koda had many a time recognised that he’d gotten lucky in his dorm arrangement. There were quite a few guys he’d rather not live with, but Hyoseop was one he’d actively choose to spend a large portion of his time with. He’s a lot in some ways, but Koda’s never found it tiring, and he likes to think that Hyoseop enjoys having Koda as a roommate too. The arm that lands around his shoulders makes him grin and lean into the other, head resting on his shoulder for a moment. There is a small part of this arrangement that worries Koda, however, and it’s the fact that Hyoseop is undeniably attractive, and very friendly, and Koda’s pretty sure you shouldn’t ‘canoodle’ with your roommates. But Hyoseop doesn’t make it easy.
The flirting doesn’t make it easy for Koda to control himself, but he can’t help but play along. “I am? Maybe it was the American air.” But as Hyoseop pulls out the chapstick and comments on his dry lips, Koda can’t help but emit a soft laugh—he’s not entirely sure if this is really Hyoseop just being helpful, or another little attempt at making things tense between them in an altogether too pleasant way. “They do?” He says, then he smiles and nods, puckering his lips at Hyoseop, almost as if he’d testing him. They can’t very well make out right here, where a manager could walk in at any moment (talk about no privacy), but Koda’s minds already racing through all the options. He’d be lying if he said this was the first time he’d wanted to kiss Hyoseop, and he’d not bother telling you it would be the last, because he’s sure that wouldn’t be true either.

( what comes next )
𝐇𝐀𝐄𝐔𝐍:
haeun was in full bloom. with a new object of her affections blossoming in her heart and a new opportunity on the rise, she felt as though the stars had finally aligned to her. of course there were things to consider: did her crush like her back? would she even make it into future dreams? those concerns were so far into the future that haeun felt undisturbed by them. for once she wasn’t left overwhelmed by the unknown. in fact, she was hopeful.
then came the prospect of what it all meant. she’s never defined herself so rigidly before. truth be told, haeun always assumed she was straight. though this new definition wasn’t a big deal, it definitely was a surprise. prior to this, haeun couldn’t recall a time she had looked at someone in that regard.
or has she?
these thoughts are the same reason haeun asks to meet with koda on sunday. admittedly a part of her feels guilty leaving one of her closest friends out of the loop for so long. everything just happened so fast. she could only hope that it doesn’t come out all at once like word vomit.
“listen,” she starts, hands up defensively when she meets with him. “i know i’ve been promising to update you with everything for days.” there’s no real excuse for why she hasn’t other than it just slipping her mind time and time again. it’s a lot to unpack and even more to say out loud. even now, she’s unsure if she can say it to koda. “but i promise it’s for a reason and it’s good. forgive me? i’ll buy you boba.”
@lgckoda
Koda stands at the precipice, balancing on the very edge of who he used to be, and looking out at his future, hidden under the clouds of what-ifs miles below him. He’s ready to take that next step, despite it being hidden in the daunting unknown—he doesn’t know what awaits him, and yet it doesn’t scare him; he’s ready. Finally making that move to commit himself to becoming a model had taken courage he didn’t really know he had. But, it’s been bubbling up for a while now, this knowledge that perhaps working towards a debut as an idol isn’t what Koda’s cut out for, and he’s well aware that his true calling seems to lay elsewhere.
But, in the grand scheme of things, Koda realises now much has happened in his life recently that he needs to vent to Haeun about, but it hadn’t slipped his notice that she’d been curiously quiet lately, and he felt like he’d not seen her in far too long. Even when he had gotten to see her they’d not been able to have a good old gossip, so when she invites him out on a Sunday he drags himself out of bed, dons a refreshingly cute outfit, and heads out to see her. He’s got a feeling that Haeun’s got a lot to tell him, and that feeling only strengthens when he spots her, and her stance of surrender. “Mmmm, you drive a hard bargain... Deal. But I want all the juicy details.”
Koda can tell instantly that this has to do with romance, or something similar—he’s perceptive, and he’d been friends with enough girls in the throes of passion before to recognise it in her. “So, who’s the lucky person who’s caught your eye, then?” He asks as he links his arm through hers and turns them off in the direction of the nearest boba shop. “How fast did all this happen, because I swear like... a week ago there wasn’t any juicy gossip to tell me.” There’s a tiny part of him that’s a little jealous. He’d not really had a significant crush in a while, and he’d been so busy with training and making decisions that it hadn’t really been on his radar recently. He supposes it’ll be another New Year spent alone with no one to kiss as the clock strikes twelve—just his luck.

𝐘𝐎𝐇𝐀𝐍:
practice time, with @lgckoda
yohan sort of expected some kind of announcement when seo youngjae gathered them altogether, but it didn’t prepare him for the news of three other trainees would be debuting and joining v&a. it was a surprise, and he couldn’t deny that there was a little bittersweet feeling that settled over him when he heard it. it was everyone’s goal to debut, he knew the competition was tough, but he knew he wasn’t the only one with the tiniest of hopes that he’d hear his name. it was a long shot, he knew it, and truthfully deep down, he still wanted to get better. his rapping was nowhere near debut worthy, and his singing was still a work in progress. his dancing was his main talent, and since the announcement of keeho, wookjin and tee joining v&a, part of him wanted to try harder in the other areas he was lacking. he couldn’t just focus on dancing all of the time, right? he wanted to stand out in some way.
Tumblr media
but for now, he had this ain’t fantasy to focus on, so perhaps in their self practice time he could focus more on other topics. so that’s how he spends one morning, the continuous sound of new rules consistently playing that he was pretty sure he knew every single lyric at this point. practice had only started an hour ago, each of them taking a little break to drink some water and cool down before they got back to practice. “song koda,” yohan called out, nodding his head to usher him over, patting the spot on the floor beside him as he gulped down some water. “how you finding it?” he asked, lifting the bottom of his shirt to wipe the sweat off his face.
Koda hadn’t been sure how to feel when Keeho, Tee and Wookjin were told they’d be joining V&A. Most of him was ecstatic, of course—he knew those three deserved this. But, there was that little part of him that couldn’t help but be a little jealous. Even though Koda knows being an idol just isn’t the right path for him, there’s a certain allure to idoldom that makes it hard not to want it even a little bit. He’s nowhere near as good at dancing or singing as these other guys, and he knows this isn’t really what he should be doing anyway. He’d always been set for becoming a model, he thinks, as he stares at himself in the practise room mirror, scrutinising the length of his legs, and the ratio of leg, to torso, to head. Even so, he thinks, he’d totally rock as an ‘ending fairy’.
Tumblr media
Taking a long drink from his water bottle he suddenly hears his name being called from across the room. There sits Yohan, beckoning him over, and Koda doesn’t need any more than that to go bouncing across the room to collapse onto the floor beside him, laying on his stomach on the floor and resting his head on Yohan’s thigh. “Awful! Terrible! Torturous! Need I go on?!” He cries dramatically, huffing out a heavy sigh and closing his eyes to enjoy the warmth of Yohan’s leg under his cheek for a moment, before shifting onto his back and laying his head right in the other boys lap. “Only joking, I like this song, so it’s fun. Though I am pretty tired. I wonder if my knees hurt so much because I’m so tall... How are yours?” He asks with a smirk, his slight jab at the others height making him have to bite back a mischievous grin.

𝐌𝐈𝐋𝐀𝐍:
milan shakes her head, somewhat amused by koda’s question. “my mom knows, it’s fine” she assures him while leading the way to her bedroom. perhaps because she has grown with friends of both genders, milan has never understood all the fuss about being alone with a boy in her room. several years ago, during a very uncomfortable conversation with milan, her parents had also made her understand that they would always trust her judgement until she showed them she couldn’t be trusted. the conversation might have been awkward at the time, it had made milan more comfortable being open with her mother and not a single thing she has done so far under their roof has warranted their ire. actually, her mother had been quite excited learning about milan’s first kiss. before her cheeks can color a shade of red, she quickly pushes the thought away and returns to the present.
“you think so?” she asks, somewhat skeptic. she takes a cursery look around. “my old bedroom was so much better…” the younger girl comments, with a bit of regrets in her voice. she had spent the first 17 years of her life in that room after all. it had grown with her, been through changes and phases; it had history. this room, not so much. with her becoming a trainee in fact, it hadn’t seen much changes even after she finished high school. “though i have to admit, it was a bit too colorful. glad my mom convinced me to keep the walls white this time around” she chuckles then turns around to face him. “they’d probably wonder why this tall, dark, handsome man is wasting his free time on such a plain girl” she teases him back, though her retort has a little bit of truth in it; as grateful as she is for every minute koda spends with her, she truly wonders how doesn’t he get bored around her. he’s usually surrounded by boys and girls as good looking and alluring as her. and then there’s her.
milan winces when koda broaches the reason why they are here today. “are you going to transform me into an egirl? or a goth girlfriend maybe?” she asks playfully before joining him by the closest. considering the very few pieces of black clothing that she owns, it would be almost impossible for koda to pull this one off anyway. his next question makes her purse her lips in a thin line. she might look outwardly thoughtful, but the way her gaze is fixed on a single piece of clothes actually reveals that she’s embarrassed. “… a lot.” she finally admits. “i always watch those youtubers and they wear such cute things, so i always buy them but then when it gets here it doesn’t really fit me and i don’t know what to wear them with so i just leave them in here.” the admission comes out in a single breath. milan might not be talented in rap, she would’ve put any rapper to shame at that moment with how quickly she spoke. she glances at the older boy; “don’t judge me…” she please, pouting for the added affect.
When Koda was in high school the majority of his friends had been girls. Not because he’d intentionally made it so, but it seemed he’d always gotten along with them more. There seemed to be a lot less judgement about the way he liked to dress when around girls—boys always had something to say about it. So, he’s no stranger to being in a girls bedroom for entirely innocent reasons. This isn’t his first mini-makeover, and he’s pretty sure it won’t be his last. It was always his favourite thing to do with his friends growing up; going through their wardrobes and finding either super cute outfits, or absolutely ridiculous ones to dress them up in. Either way, it was always fun to make it a mini fashion show. Sometimes, Koda had been dressed up too, and he’d always loved it, being put in an outfit someone else thought looked nice on him, having his makeup and hair done, and finally getting to see the end look once it was all revealed. He misses those days—they were so much simpler.
“I like it. I wish I had somewhere I could escape to when the dorm gets a little too noisy. Plus, home-cooked meals are always the best, even if they aren’t technically, there’s something about a parents cooking that just hits the spot.” As he rifles through the clothes in the wardrobe he thinks about his own parents cooking, and suddenly he’s a little overcome with how much he misses them, and his sister. He’s not often homesick, being the incredibly independent person that he is, but sometimes a smell will transport him back home, to his dad’s little workshop in the big shed at the bottom of the back yard, or he’ll see a woman from behind who looks just like his mom. Koda makes a mental note to call home soon. He’s brought back to the present by Milan referring to herself as a ‘plain girl’. His jaw drops and he turns to stare at her in a mixture of anger, horror and shock. “Plain?! You?!” He looks her up and down pointedly then makes a disgruntled ‘hmph’ noise. “I only see a beautiful girl who takes my breath away every time I see her.”
With that he turns back to the closet and rifles through some more, listening to her talk. He glances back over when she pleads for him not to judge her and almost snorts. “I’m pretty sure we’ve all done that. You think many of the dresses or skirts I buy fit me? And don’t get me started on cute shirts! Damn my broad, tall, manly frame.” He says with a dramatic frown, sighing heavily, then biting back a grin. “Maybe I can make some of the things look good. Show me which are the ones you’ve not worn, and I’ll pick a few and we’ll try them out!” Frankly, Koda finds it hard to believe that anything Milan tries on will look bad on her. Even something that doesn’t fit quite right can be pinned and tucked and made to hug a figure like a glove if you know what you’re doing (and Koda does). “I’m going to have you looking so good that you’ll be fighting people off with a big stick! Even more so than you are now.”

𝐘𝐔𝐉𝐈𝐍:
it felt nice having someone just as obsessed with fashion as her to go shopping with. yujin had a problem that she refused to admit to anyone. that she is addicted to changing her wardrobe every season. she wasn’t the richest girl walking around, hell, she was probably so broke that she has to go two weeks without eating out. if it wasn’t for saving her older clothes that went out of style or didn’t fit the weather, she wouldn’t be mindlessly pushing through clothes at this very second with koda. dressed in a black crop top, a leather jacket that was way too big for her, baggy jeans, and her signature boots; yujin was already dressing for the fall weather and ready to slip out of her clothes at any given moment (to try clothes on, of course).
she turned her body to make it easy for koda to eye her and the dress he was holding, “do you think it’ll hug my features well? i already have so many black dresses but it makes a difference with this jacket…” words drifting as her mini black bag slipped down her arm as she reached out to feel the soft fabric, head nodding in approval. the action didn’t last for much longer as an eyebrow was raised, mimicking his smirk before chuckling. “you mean outfits i can wear when i go out and do my thing?” she questioned with her voice lowered slightly, enough for only koda to hear.
“a little? it’s already hitting the dangerous marks with the hot pinks and leather, might as well add a bunch of buckles into that mix.” she half-joked, wondering where exactly his mind could be going with this one. yujin crossed her hand, red nails tapping against the leather jacket and head tiled as she observed her spontaneous friend. “while it’s nice, i think it’s a bit too basic for me and you.” she reached out to pick off a piece of lint from the bolero, flicking it away from them. “do you want to dress me up like your barbie doll for today?”
Koda loves to shops with his girl friends for more reasons than it’s simply fun—he gets to see the outfits on people that they actually fit, instead of disappointing himself by taking them into the dressing room, trying them on only to find they’re too short, or too baggy around his hips, or don’t fit his broad shoulders. He ends up looking awful in most things, and so has had to be creative with skirts of varying lengths. A petite maxi skirt is pretty much just below the knee on him. But with his friends, he can dress them up and enjoy the clothes he enjoys without having the confidence knocked out of him when they look awful on him.
“Everything hugs your figure well, Yujin.” It had been hard to be simply friends with Yujin when they first met—she’s a beautiful girl, and Koda is but a mere mortal man, but over time their friendship, and how comfortable they felt around each other, won over his attraction. “Frankly, I don’t think you need to wear anything special to go out and ‘do your thing’, but I get what you mean. Hot pink and buckles sounds good.” Koda hums, putting the bolero and mini dress back on the rail, and scouring the aisles around them for any sight of something hot pink, or dangerous in the way he was envisioning.
“Aha!” Spotting a black and red dress that looked as though a tiger had been at it, he takes Yujin’s hand and hurries her over to it. “I don’t know which hole is for what appendage, but if this isn’t dangerous, I don’t know what is.” It looked as though it may only cover the absolute necessities, and he wondered if it was meant to come with a slip underneath, or maybe a flesh toned under-dress. “This one is a wild card, we’ll try it, but we should look for some... small things- Oh!” He’d just seen a matching denim jacket and skirt set hanging beside a variety of cropped shirts in a vaguely mesh-like material. “Not dangerous, but definitely cute. I love some double denim.” With the tiger-shredded dress over one arm, he reaches for the double denim outfit and holds it up against her. “I think anyone can rock double denim.”

𝐇𝐀𝐘𝐔𝐍:
sushi lunch ( fall 22 )         ( legacy building ) ft. @lgckoda ♡
there are plenty of people that hayun has grown attached to through her time at legacy but probably the very first one on her journey to legacy entertainment was in fact koda. they’d met on day one really, before the trip to korea and settlement in the dorms, at auditions in chicago. and two or so years later, they still remain good friends. it’s comfortable, having someone who has grown up in a similar area and speak the same language (midwest dialect on point) and he’s definitely helped with a lot of the homesickness she’s always felt since being in korea.
“got you some starbucks,” hayun says sitting down at the designated meeting spot they’d discussed in their texts. legacy building has a lot of little areas to sit where they wouldn’t be bothered by lgc employees or other trainees for a bit on one of their breaks throughout the day. she hands koda the drink and gives him a smile. “i also got some lunch, i hope you like sushi?” hayun gives him a little laugh and begins to open up the almost obscene amount of boxes containing all the sushi any two people could want. “i wasn’t sure what you liked or disliked so i got a variety. how’s your day going by the way?”
When Koda first met Hayun, he’d though she’d get through, and he wouldn’t. He’d had no experience in singing, or dancing, and while he wasn’t entirely bad at either, he wasn’t anywhere near the best. He supposes it was purely on looks that he made it through—that, or they say some hidden potential in him. But somehow, by some miracle, they’d both been signed and shipped off to Seoul at the exact same time. From then on, they’d been close; a little reminder of home. Often, Koda will seek Hayun out to simply talk about home, or hear that accent that takes him right back. They can talk about foods they miss, places they visited as kids, things that were so similar for them in their schooling that no one in Korea seems to relate to. In a way, Hayun feels like having another sister there with him, since his own is still back home.
“Oh my god, you’re a saint.” He takes the drink from her without hesitation and takes a long sip. He’d been dying for some caffeine. That was one thing that felt familiar about Seoul—everyone and their grandma drank a ridiculous amount of coffee, and it made Koda feel much more at home, especially working in a cafe. “Hayun, seriously, I think I love you.” He says dramatically, staring as she continues to reveal box after box of sushi. His mouth waters, and he’s already reaching for the chopsticks. “I love it all.” Koda can’t wait, he’d been starving since that morning when he’d ran out of time to eat his entire breakfast before training began, so he digs right in, popping a california roll into his mouth with a hum. “So far, pretty much fine. Tiring, but what’s new. Almost broke my ankle in dance practise, so that was exciting. How about you?”

𝐊𝐄𝐄𝐇𝐎:
by now keeho probably had a total of 3 piercing all on his ear - two standard ear lobe and a recent on that he got at the beginning of the year with year. the newest edition was the conch. so after losing the future dream competition keeho was now trying to numb that pain by changing up his look, nothing too dramatic of course he just wanted his second lobe to be pierce. it’ll change up his look but not too dramatic and not something too different that he will stick out like a sore thumb.
“I just got my conch piercing on my right ear at the start of the year so nothing too dramatic this time” he said showing the latest edition to his ear piercing. “I would say eyebrow but I highly doubt they’ll let me keep it when I debut so that’ll have to wait.” keeho laugh. if the choice was given to him he would had probably gotten more piercing but he will strive for that clean image nothing on the face yet. “ what about you? what are you getting?” he ask as he stink his hand into his front pocket.
It was nice to be around koda, as he had not seen his friend for some time now. it was always funny how they were under the same company, trainee towards the same goals and yet they dont really get to spend as much time as people would think. “wait is this your first piercing?” he asked as he squint his eyes examine his friend facial feature.
Koda’s thought about getting a tattoo before, and the desire to comes flooding back when they reach the shop, the tattoo examples in the window catching his eye and lighting that fire in him. Bad idea, he reminds himself. He’s not a free man anymore—he’d sold his soul to Legacy, and he’s almost certain that a tattoo, even a hidden one, would not go down well. If he wants to be a model, he’ll have to keep the majority of his skin clear of blemishes, or marks that would take extra time and money to photoshop out. So, the tattoo idea is a no go. Even so, the thoughts of what he would get, and where, don’t leave his mind simply because he knows it’s out of the question.
“I’ve only got my lobes pierced. This woman I grew up around did them for me when I was nine. I said I wanted to wear earrings like the ones she always wore, and so she pierced my ears and made me a pair of earrings just like hers.” It’s a fond memory, despite the sharp pain he recalls from the experience. It had been quick though, for that he was grateful. “Think I’m going to get my belly button pierced today. I’m not sure if I’d suit lots of ear piercings, like how it suits you. But I’ve always wanted my belly button pierced.” Yes, not a usual piercing for a guy to want, but then Koda isn’t much like your usual guy, anyway.
As they enter the shop, a little bell rings above the door, and a man greets them from behind the counter. He asks what they’re there for, and Koda tells him. Then, they’re taken through a corridor to a back room and told to wait for the  person who’s going to pierce them. “This feels... both exciting and terrifying.” Koda says with a slightly nervous laugh. Had he been here with anyone else, he’d have been holding their hand right now, but his friendship with Keeho isn’t like that—they’re not affectionate in the same way that Koda is with his other friends. That doesn’t mean Koda isn’t as comfortable with him, because he is, he just sees their friendship sitting right behind that line that he usually has no worries about crossing, but with Keeho, it’s impossible to set a toe past that line.

ICE RINK, UNDISCLOSED LOCATION — ( OCT. ‘22 ) Koda and CHAE JUNHEE go ice skating …
Good circulation isn’t Koda’s strong suit—evident by the way his fingers are so pale they’re almost blue. It doesn’t bother him much, thanks to his high pain tolerance, but the slowness of his fingers does bother him. “June, gimme-” He doesn’t bother finishing his sentence as he reaches over and grasps his best friends hand, shoving both of their hands into his pocket together. “Pretty sure they were about to fall off.” He jokes, then looks down at his ice skates and shifts his weight from one foot to the other. “You ready to fall on your ass?” They’d decided to make good use of their day off, escaping the watchful eyes of managers, trainers and staff, in favour of a place where not a single person knew who they were. Here, Koda and Junhee could be nobodies, just two friends wobbling around on the ice until they were so cold and bruised that they retreated to the cafe just off the ice, where tired skaters escaped to after the ice had knocked all the confidence out of their systems.  “I haven’t done this in years.” Koda says as he steps hesitantly onto the smooth, white expanse before him, his free hand gripping the half-wall around the edge. “We’re gonna have to swap hands when my other one stops working.” He grumbles, his feet, for now, staying steady beneath him. He’s pretty sure you’re not meant to hold hands when you ice skate, because if you fall you’ll only pull your friend down with you, but he’d rather risk it than deal with frozen fingers. “After this we should get hot chocolate.” Despite Koda and Junhee both being trainees, largely doing the same things, recently they’d been separated by the two bootcamps, and Koda, much to his annoyance, had realised just how reliant on a daily dose of Junhee he was. He’d found himself sitting in between various practises and training sessions wondering what his best friend was up to.
Koda’s the type of person who would say he has multiple best friends. He’s got his friends, his close friends, and then those few who are so close to him that he’d hide absolutely nothing from them. They’re the people Koda knows he could trust with his life. But among those few people, there will always be one that comes above the rest—Junhee. He’d been there with Koda since he was fourteen, albeit thousands of miles away, hidden behind a computer screen, or a phone screen, merely a bunch of messages and half-face selfies for the majority of the early years. Maybe it was fate that had finally brought them together. They’d been with each other through the many trials and tribulations of their teen years, and Koda had found that during the worst times, when he felt like he had almost no one, he never once doubted that he had Junhee.
“So, what you been up to? Getting all muscular and stuff? What do they even have you doing? I’m guessing it’s not top secret stuff.”

Now this is Koda’s thing. He could spend hours in here, testing out all the products, picking out the perfect colours for his skintone and having fun with colourful eye makeup and wild eyeliner. If someone doesn’t drag him away soon he’s going to become one with the beauty room—he’ll become the guardian of it, tied to the room for all eternity. He’s usually quite critical of makeup, since he knows quite a lot about it, but the Peripera stuff that’s all laid out in the pretty pink room is surprisingly good. He’d decided to redo his entire face of makeup once he’d tested out the foundations and lip glosses on the back of his hand and forearm. It’s too nice not to play around with in it’s entirety.
First, is the foundation. He finds the perfect shade for him (and not some three shades lighter nonsense), and uses one of the little sponges to evenly pat it around his entire face. He talks to himself as he does so, commenting on the quality of the foundation, the lack of oiliness, or worse, chalkiness. It feels like he’s not wearing anything on his skin once he’s finished. A light, full coverage foundation, which is hard to find usually. Once he looks entirely dimensionless, giggling at himself in the mirror, the bangs of his Aether wig clipped back, he moves onto some blush and contouring. “See, if I don’t add this little bit of the darker colour down the side of my nose bridge I end up looking like I’m missing a nose altogether. Plus, it adds a bit of a dramatic effect for the costume, right?” He says, as if talking to someone. “God, Koda, you’re going insane, talking to yourself. Had too much pumpkin punch, huh?” He jokes, sifting through the blush options.
Once he gets to his eyes and eyebrows (which he’d put foundation over in order to somewhat reshape them) he decides to lean into the ‘cosplay’ thing he was going for, lining his eyes to make them appear bigger. He doesn’t have any fake lashes, but he does his best to use a deep brown to try and fill out the base of his eyelashes, to make them look a little thicker. The eyeshadow is natural, not so artistic, but makes his eyes look a little more naturally big and round. He would’ve liked to have used the makeup in his usual state of dress and gone for something funky and inspired why mid-century modern wall art, or something, with pops of yellow and orange, but he’s Aether, not Koda right now, so he’ll have to make do with a more boring look.
His eyes and brows done, brows shaped a little more arched than his own naturally are, he moves onto the lips. These are his favourite along with his eyes. He’s always looking for fun new things to do with his lip makeup, but today he thinks he’ll go for a very slight fade out from the centre, a slightly more pink-coral lip, with a clear gloss finish, to make him look utterly kissable—which is how he would like to look constantly. He’s been in here for far too long already, even if he’s speeding through what he would usually let himself spend a good hour on, but he’s just having far too much fun. Finally, though, bangs unpinned and fixed into the right place again, and lips done, he presses them together and makes a little ‘mwah’ at the mirror, checking out the finished look, then winking at himself and blowing at kiss at his reflection.
Not to toot his own horn, but he’s damn good at makeup. And with that, he hurries from the room, back to the party that he’d almost completely forgotten about in his excitement in the makeup paradise.

This is not how Koda expected to spend his much needed break time, being pestered by a person who told him he needed to pass a ‘mission’ before he was allowed to go about his day. The twist? The mission was given to him in Japanese, and he has to respond in Japanese. Bad thing is, Koda doesn’t know much Japanese at all. He’s got pretty much no knowledge of Japanese, so he’d pretty sure he’s going to be stuck here forever. He’s currently trying to trick the teacher into miming the meaning of the words to him, whining about how he’ll faint if he’s not able to go to get a snack soon. They can’t very well let him faint for a silly challenge, right?
But, eventually, he manages to pick out words he’s heard before, though he’s really not sure where. Then, after a while, when the teacher also looks tired of Koda’s idiocy, the miming begins and Koda, after a few tries, manages to figure out that they want him to do poses. He’d caught onto the number three much earlier—he didn’t need any miming for that, so he figures out that they must want him to do three poses. It takes a while longer to gather what kind of poses, and he’s thankful that it doesn’t seem to require him to say anything in response. He thinks they want ‘cool’ poses, whatever that might be, and he thinks he might as well just give it a few shots until he gets it right.
The first pose is given the all good, a simple sultry-eyed, three-quarter angle pose, chin tilted upwards and jaw set. He thinks the stiff, jaw-led pose gives off an air of strength and ‘coolness’, and it seems the producer does too, as he’s given a thumbs up and moves onto his next. This one, child a little higher and hands behind his head is given a head shake and met with ‘too sexy’ (he manages to understand that). So, he tries again, tilting his head to the side and crossing his arms over his chest, keeping a slightly hard gaze. This ones given another thumbs up, and he moves onto the last one. By this point his stomach’s rumbling and he’s growing impatient, so he goes for the first thing he thinks of and turns to the side, slides his hands into his pockets and leans his head back a little, looking towards the teacher and producer out of the corner of his eye. This one, again, gets given the all good, and he’s finally free to go. Thank god, he thinks as he hurries away. If there’s one way to make him not want to learn a language, it’s to bombard him with it all of a sudden.
He’d thought about learning some Japanese before, but weirdly enough, right now, there seems nothing he’d less like to do.
