The process of moving was never not a burden. Seojin finds himself drifting between the temptation of falling asleep on his new bed ( wondering who slept there last and how well ) and giving into the desire to rifle through the kitchen for a morsel. He settles for a place between the two options he's given himself, protein bar clutched to his chest as he flops backwards on the freshly arranged blankets. The mattress already proves most gentle on his body than those at the trainee dorms — miles above the military barracks. He exhales a sigh after biting into the bar, grimacing at the cinnamon flavor that bites back at him. His fingers pry into the colorful packaging. It just barely masks the buzz of the phone in his pocket. "Huh?" He doesn't even bother sitting up to remove it, unlocking it with a quick swipe. "Minseo-... What?"

????? Be more specific... Are you talking about tendonitis? No, you shouldn't be scared, it's super common. Just rest, ice it, and drink lots of water. Wait. Unless this is some sort of code? Are you trying to ask advice for a friend again?
gossip queen !
It was ironic that she had traded one brother for the other one, but Seojin was the superior Park brother and that wasn't her being salty about her ex-nemesis/crush. Perhaps, she was being unfair comparing the two brothers. She had more in common with Seojin despite their age difference and she found their acquaintanceship to be quite sweet. At this point, he was more like a mentor than a brotherly figure. She was hoping that one day she could bravely ask if the two of them could be friends. Her trainee friends had informed her that there were certain trainees that had seemingly disappeared without much clarification from the coaches. It was obvious when trainees had left on their own regard, or had been asked to not return, but she knew there was no way that Seojin was one of them. In her typical curious nature, she opens up their previous conversation and quickly types the best bait message she could conjure up:

"You're not even keeping track of that? Man... What am I gonna do with you?" He mutters underneath his breath, through grit teeth, as if remaining facetious was a tumultuous task.
Perhaps the weight of Seojin's arm over the other's shoulder is too much for him to bear alongside whatever else lingers in his mind. Neither had the time to wipe the sweat from their brows before the skepticism floats to the surface. Far be it for someone like Seojin to ignore when a friend of his grew creases in their expressions, and Minki's responses given are too unsatisfactory for him to leave well enough alone. These passing months were too indicative of something being terribly off. Of course he would witness the other's flame dim down. Does he even notice it, himself?
"A catch, huh?" He loosens his grip to rest back at his side, fingers plucking at the loosening bottom hem of the old black t-shirt barely hanging on by a thread. ( He notes to himself to ask his mother to patch it up later. ) "Maybe."
The answer — cryptic as it may be — hangs in the air between them. It is clear Seojin does not intend to elaborate. Not yet. He would much rather be patient enough to wait until they clear the doors of the company building. The 'cover' of outside will do well to make sure Minki will not cause a scene for what he says next. Or so he can only hope.
As they walked out into the crisp air, Seojin steals a glance at his friend. The younger man's eyes are distant, indeed, lost in a world of his own, he presumes. A pang of concern blooms in his chest; he scratches the spot. He knew he had to tread carefully; one wrong move and Minki might retreat further into himself.
"I won't sugarcoat it," his gait slows as he speaks, leading them into a crevasse between two buildings where there are less prying ears and eyes. "You've been seriously off lately... and something's bothering you. I can tell. Where's that dude who is a perfectionist? Unless you really are just super tired."
maybe minki should've kept his words a bit more... subtle, less dramatic? because now that he's reviewing back on what he just said, it sounds like a mess, and seojin didn't need to hear all that. it's all out now though, so minki laughs, not shying away from the gesture of affection ( he's used to it at this point, and he welcomes it, sometimes needing some form of physical touch from people he deems friends to keep him grounded in reality ).
"oh, really." he blinks, has it been that long—the year basically just started, but minki still feels like he's stuck in 2023 instead of having moved onto 2024. it feels like he has been frozen at a certain point, unable to move forward. in hindsight, it's probably concerning, having lost track of time and significant dates. but there's a lot going through minki's mind, and he hadn't allowed himself the release through dance either. maybe aside from losing his light, that's a form of self-punishment; he doesn't know.
the harmless question does strike a chord somewhere inside minki, despite the lighthearted tone. it's one of the questions that would circle around in minki's head when he's unable to sleep in the dead of night, wondering what's wrong. it's hard processing feelings and emotions, especially when they're meant to put that aside and focus on training. he's not even on the way to becoming an idol yet but that doesn't diminish the busy schedule he has. it's as if he's fading away slowly, it's only a matter of time until a coach notices and decides minki isn't worth investing into anymore.
that would be worrying. that—minki doesn't know what he would do when faced with that situation. not yet, at least. but maybe this moment isn't exactly the best time to figure that out.
"i do feel kind of out of it. maybe i'm also dehydrated. i can't remember how many times i drank today." this, too, he says in jest. not that it's a healthy behaviour to pass off as completely nothing.
he waves a hand in front of his own eyes. "i think my eyes are functioning now though." he laughs, somehow. "i can see you, at least?" another joke, something else that could be taken lightly. "but, again, how can i refuse an extra serving if you're graciously offering it up to me?" still, minki hums. "are you sure there isn't a catch in there somewhere? i'm still waiting for the inevitable 'but first'..."

A scowl spreads across Seojin's face when he takes another sip. There is an artificial saccharine taste that spreads across his tongue — not quire dissimilar to his interpretation of Jieun's current demeanor. His brows furrow slightly above that scrutinizing gaze of his. Truthfully, there is no concise nor justifiable reason for him to continue with his metaphoric hazing of the woman through their unfortunate coincidences. She is a person, too, of course, in spite of his harsh opinions of "people like her".
( For all he thinks of her as some snob who looks down on him, there is a slight inkling that it may not exactly be the case. Does an actress do so in more than one aspect? )
"I dunno... Did you like what I made for you? Thought it would be a good throwback but...— What, you're not about to say there was something wrong with it, are you? We've been through this before," he brings back the mention of their first encounter with a cheeky grin. Clearly, he is willing to let bygones be bygones with a few caveats. "But, fine. We'll get along... for today."
He clears his throat, glancing over his shoulder one more time. "And, I'm not a fan. Can't a guy just feel nervous about being around celebrities?" Of course, the implications of his statement could be read as him undermining Jieun's own presence. A tease, however. "Weird seeing you act, by the way. Not that I've seen any of your dramas before," a lie — only because he was curious. "You do fit the role well. Don't have to do much acting, do you?"
because the filming set feels like a natural habit to her, jieun allowed herself to be comfortable. if anything, the incident reminds her to keep her guard up so she can finish this big project without any issues. although ruining a dress wouldn't cause too much damage to her work, she'd rather avoid these small inconveniences.
but small inconveniences that exposed her human flaws seemed to follow her whenever seojin was around and, much to her annoyance, he looked entertained by her exaggerated response to those. so yes, it wouldn't be too crazy to think it was intentional if not for the fact that jieun has to admit she's the one at fault all the times, from the first incident at the restaurant to the soup spilling.
"mm yeah i agree. i'm always nice, though. you can ask around..." she shrugs, keeping a vain grin on her lips. there are probably some people who would disagree, sure, but in general, she has managed to maintain a good image and reputation among her fellow actors and staff. "last time," she trails off, sliding her hands into the pocket of the jacket, "you gave me food and i wrote you a thank you note. we can call it a truce, right?"
ill-fated or not, jieun only took the signs of the universe as she wanted. it was always up to her to decide how things would go, so maybe that was an opportunity to change this once and for all. "so let's just get along well... as you probably saw, i'm doing a pretty good job with this role. a scandal wouldn't be good." she flashes a grin. "gyuyoung unnie... are you a fan?" she chuckles lightly, remembering the start of the accident.

It took, perhaps, an embarrassing amount of time for Park Seojin to fully mature. He often allowed his actions to get ahead of him before the logical side of him had any chance to catch up and correct him. Back then, Emi had not quite earned such a level of loyalty from him, did she? They met a mere two occasions before the incident but he couldn't seem to help himself — he knew unfairness when he saw it despite their precious meeting going awry.
Never did a moment pass that he feared speaking his mind. It is why their differing values saw him ending any hopes of things continuing. Granted, the approach he took was certainly... more harsh than it should have been, sparking an unnecessary level of tension that meets with the rolling of eyes or dismissive huffs. But when it comes to things like this, he can only handle sour bonds for so long.
"Takes a lot for me to say that word." Sorry — that one. Seojin acts as if it is some great gift or sacrifice to make admission of his own wrongdoing but he would be remiss if he allowed it to go unspoken. He is no longer the immature, quick to anger man he was three years ago. "Didn't know how much longer I could handle your eyes shooting daggers at me."
He clenches his teeth, folds his arms. Facetiousness laces his tone before he falls into something more serious. The last thing he wants is for the sincere exchange to dissolve into a spat. ( Despite his proposensity for waging wars with words. ) "It's not a big deal. Not like you owe me for it or anything... not being sarcastic. I mean it," a slight grin pushes up the corner of his lips.
"Although... maybe a cup of noodles. I had to ditch what I bought back then, y'know?" As if he truly remembered. Seojin pauses. "Kidding."
if she had been honest with herself, when she allowed herself to actually think about it, she probably mirrored the clerk-- his genuine flash of shock crossing his face at seojin seeming to defend a stranger. of course, the clerk had no idea they had crossed paths prior to that moment, but even then...
he defended her when he didn't have to, and whenever she sees him, she thinks about that-- even more so than the blind date that had initially gone wrong. instead of sour words she thinks of the near.. defiance in his voice that day and she forces herself to think of something else.
and she had never been afraid of confrontation, which is finds herself at this very moment, dark eyes staring him down, wondering if this was another chance to sour once more, nearly expecting it. usually, it was hard to change someone's mind; and it seems his was already made.
except that didn't happen.
the no hangs heavy like a raindrop, and when the apology comes, it pops metaphorically over her head, cooling her, making her blink at him. her bottom lip tugs into her teeth as she lets out an exhale. its clear that wasn't how she expected this to go... and yes-- perhaps she had been a bit too quick to judge. she was prepared for a confrontation and that didn't come... just a poignant apology and sincere words.
"oh."
it's the only thing she can say after a long moment, breaking her eye contact to stare at the ground, foot idly scratching at a scuff on the ground, sighing a bit. more silence hangs until the words come up before she can stop them-- "i don't think... i ever said, thank you for that, by the way." she mumbles, finally looking back at him. "... i know i didn't. and I mean it. thank you... for saving my ass when you didn't have to."

It had been quite a long time since Seojin felt this level of enjoyment. A good rush, a shot of adrenaline and dopamine straight to his brain, bombarded him the moment he allowed himself to let loose and face a margin of risk. Beneath the mask hooked over his nose, he grins madly.
( Perhaps he has a bit of a problem with being an adrenaline junkie but that is a subject to tackle for another time. )
Seojin lays there in the snow for a bit longer before he decides to partially sit up, grabbing onto Jiho's sleeve and tugging on it ever so slightly. The tips of calloused fingers in his gloves have gripped onto the fabric enough to influence the other's balance should he pull too hard.
"Yeah, I'm pretty damn good. Now... you should do your new favorite hyung a favor and help him up... I prolly broke my ass," He grunts out a chuckle. The snow beneath him is noticeably icier than anticipated, causing a preemptive slip before he can even make an attempt to bring himself to his feet.
He reflexively pulls on Jiho's sleeve. ( And the environment does not care if the other has the propensity to be clumsy. )
"We'll go one more time. Then, I'll get you that hot chocolate."
he doesn't have much to say in response to that, since his only answer would be that he would just have to take it, honestly. he laughs a little instead, shaking his head and he just goes with not answering because he doesn't actually have a reply.
the whole ride down the slope is fun though, and he doesn't even realize that it's ended until he's come to a full stop. he hears before he sees seojin shoot past him, his eyes wide as he glances at the mother and her kid at the profanity slipping from his friend's mouth and bows his head slightly in apology.
it's kind of a funny thought, if they recognized him. it would just be a parent saying that jiho of agito had apologized for a friend swearing.
anyways.
he watches, as if everything is in slow motion, as seojin shoots past him and crashes into a snow bank. part of him wishes he had had the foresight to pull his phone out to record or something but it's good enough to just have seen it with his own eyes.
"absolutely 10 out of 10," jiho says, a laugh tumbling out of his lips in his surprise, standing up and pulling his sled behind him. he crouches down next to seojin, reaching out to try to help dust the snow off of him. "are you okay?"

There would certainly be no consequence for an extra for getting a bit of tea on his cuff. In Seojin's case, he is sure of this, so much so that he merely opts to rolling his sleeves up his forearms. ( Only marginally less stuffy, as well, considering the mask they all have to wear for far too long while the actors run their lines. ) Fortunately, his quick reflexes prevented any of the staining drink onto Jieun's rather fancy attire — or so he hoped.
"Revenge... Following you?" Seojin scoffs against the straw, taking a sip before he answers. "Hey, don't flatter yourself too much. Now... why would I willingly put myself in your way when you're always a bit mean to me?" With a quirk of his brow, he takes another sip, grimacing when there is a sudden rush of sugar he definitely did not ask for.
But there is one thing she is right about: their consistent coincidences. Whether the other liked it or not, there would be some way, somehow, they would end up in closer proximity than comfortable. Each time spells a recipe for disaster, as if they are two conflicting magnets that push off each other and cause accidents by proxy. Needless to say, Seojin found the phenomenon to be rather interesting; and Jieun's annoyed reactions are a bit too good to pass up.
"I guess we should be nicer to each other since we're on set. Technically, we're coworkers right now, yeah?" He puts his head on a swivel and looks behind him, his shoulders stiffening slightly. "I mean, so many eyes. What if we cause a scandal by fighting?"
out of the options during the break, jieun gives her manager a break and walks to the coffee truck for a refreshing drink by herself. it gives her a chance to put on that smile of hers and make a good impression behind the cameras as well. more than being a talented actress, networking was also important ( and she was lucky enough to act with more experienced and well-known actors in this project ).
she follows her senior out of the set but is quickly reminded to change her shoes to something more comfortable and grab a jacket to wear over her elegant gown, so they part ways, but jieun doesn't take long. she zips the padded coat up as she moves toward the other actress, not expecting to run onto someone on the way.
déjà vu would be the right word to explain her feelings in those brief seconds when she loses her ability to dodge a threat and stares in complete shock. gladly, the familiar person holding a drink is fast enough to prevent a mess — had she stained the fancy designer gown she is wearing, she'd get an earful from the stylists. "how did you- what are you-" she tries to make sense of it but her eyes land of the outfit the man is wearing and her main question is answered: he is one of the masked extras.
coincidences. too many coincidences.
jieun checks the uncovered parts of the dress to make sure it's safe then looks up with a grin. "mm maybe because... are you trying to get revenge? or following me and staging accidents?" her tone is unserious but also hides a certain level of suspicion. either way, the actress shrugs. "you looked distracted, though. did you spot anything interesting over there?"

"Trouble?" he mutters under his breath, softly enough to keep his breath from showing. "I dunno what you're talking about..." Seojin is in the midst of sipping his drink, eyes fixated on Yujin as she speaks. He inhales when he means to blow. Don't try to hide it from me. You can't get out of this one. The intent of those words are as clear as any — she has lured him here with a clear intent and none of it involves him listening to her venting. He knows better than to second guess, and he huffs out a laugh after wiping his mouth with the back of his hand.
"I don't have anything to add," he cannot admit just how right she is. "You'll have to pry it from my cold, dead hands." And, of course, he is indignant as usual. He sets his thermos of tea down, settling it between his ankles. It's far more interesting to examine the top of the lid, then the dim horizon that runs along the river. His mind wanders to that movie — that scene where a giant mutated fish bursts from the water and ruins everyone's day. Perhaps it would be enough to interrupt the conversation.
The truth is laden in his eyes; the way they drift, the subtle glaze. Yujin is more observant than he gives her credit for. A crack has appeared in the carefully crafted wall that Seojin built around himself in passing months in particular. ( The plastering over of concrete on an already shaky foundation. ) He chews into his lower lip. His leg shakes, he plucks at the edges of his sleeves. So far, he'd done well enough to conceal his feelings and the events that have been breaking him down bit by bit. Uncertainty of career, separation from friends, worries of his personal life. Seojin knows he would rather not dig any of it up when he buried it so well.
He avoids looking over at her at any cost. "What if I don't wanna talk about it?"
while the familiar playfulness was still in seojin's actions, the light he once held seemed to have dimmed. their fair share of good and bad experiences has helped the blonde grow closer to her friend, understanding how exactly seojin ticks in a way that she can simply stare at him and tell something was up. of course, it wasn't always this way. she had to gain his trust and vice versa, and yujin trusted him with her secrets and for him to be the one to knock her out of delusions.
for once, she wanted to be there for him.
he seemed a bit too calm, yet not as relaxed when it comes to their normal checkups or conversations. "there is no dumb drama from my side, for once. but it feels like you have a bit of trouble yourself." seojin wouldn't be himself without the banters and eye rolls that come with yujin's stupidity sometimes. his sense of calmness, or better yet, tiredness that washed over his body was hard to not notice as they sat in their same spot near the river. it was almost as if roles were reversed in some odd way. "if you're not fine, don't try to hide it from me at least because you know I'll keep pushing… and pushing." yujin truly was worried for the man who sat next to her.
upon his next few questions, she sighed slowly. being an idol was a lot, that fact was true and well known among the company. but living in such an experience was different from hearing the stories. "i don't feel like I'm doing enough for myself, yet. i need more, more opportunities and more things to do so i can gain my solo fans like the other girls." that seemed to be the only running wave in the group, large solo fans who supported you more than the overall group - which sucked sometimes. "but today isn't about me, now is it?" she questioned, looking at him. "you can't get out of this one, seojin."

"And what if it is a threat? What are you gonna do about it, huh?" A wide grin spreads across his lips, mischief rather clear in the glisten of his eyes before he slams the visor of his helmet down. He would have to admit, teasing Jiho might very well soon become a favorite past time of his; one that potentially rivals the other targets of his shenanigans.
Seojin knows better than to allow any shred of competitive nature to go without a taste. He has the tendency to snarf it all up in one fell swoop — so much so that he often chokes on his own words. Even in times like this ( when he should be having oodles of fun ), there is that hunger to win win win that follows him all the way down the slope.
It's smooth sailing for a bit until he finds his sled taking on a mind of its own and veers off course. He presses his heels into the snow, but it only leaves fissures in the snow. At this speed, he barrels past a child and mother slowly making their way down, barely missing them.
"Shit, shit, shiiiiit!" he finds himself with no choice to cry out as his sled pushes him rather quickly past a stagnant Jiho, stopping only when it crashes him into a snow bank. He tumbles from the sled and is left to splay his arms out on the icy white blanket. He peers over at his friend with a roll of his head, slowly flicking the protective visor up.
"So... How'd I do? 10 outta 10 for performance? Theatrics...?" His voice emerges a bit strained — what, with having the wind knocked out of him.
"it's not that i'm scared," he protests, feeling a tiny bit offended that that was what seojin thought of him. though he understands, considering the hedging his friend had needed to do to get him to agree to this outing. but the point wasn't that he was afraid of snowboarding or anything. no, that wasn't it at all!
"you know if i get hurt i won't be able to dance or do any of my schedules," he points out, huffing softly as he follows after, stepping purposely into the little footprints that seojin was leaving behind.
he'll admit, he doesn't particularly love the snow but he loves the cold weather if only for how crisp the air is when he takes a deep breath. it feels even better out here, and he thinks he wouldn't mind falling down the mountain (figuratively) to get more of it in his lungs.
"that sounds like a threat, hyung," jiho replies, eying the other warily but he also knows that it's probably harmless.
he decides not to respond verbally, only moving to sit on the sled and getting his feet positioned properly in a way that he wouldn't just accidentally shoot down the hill without any warning.
hearing the go! from his friend. he digs his heels into the ground and pushes off, letting out a cheer as the sled starts moving down the hill.
it's refreshing in a way he hasn't felt in a long time, and he just freely enjoys the ride until he reaches the bottom and the slope evens out and he's no longer moving. he had entirely forgotten about the race, just enjoying the wind in his face and he turns to look and see where seojin had ended up.

A furrow creases Seojin's brow. Akio's lack of nutrition that day is a point of contention he wants to argue; wants to scold in only the way an older brother figure can, but he sighs instead, chin tucking against his chest while his arm wraps around the younger's shoulder. ( What he can reach at least. ) He jostles him a bit, squeezing the other side as if it is a test to gauge his health. The subject would be released ( for now ) but it lingers in the back of his head like the rumbling in his own stomach.
He has no objections over his friend's suggestion — in fact, his chest swells at the idea of eating as much chicken kaarage as he can manage in one sitting. He can already smell the slightly sweet crusts and the savory wafts of meat emanating from the restaurant before they take a step inside. Once they step toward a table, he can also catch the strong whiff of beer spilled by the last occupant. There is something so distinctly alive about all the sensations he takes in after such a long time feeling his legs grow numb.
"Kaarage is exactly what I was thinking of. I want yakitori and gyudon... Do you wanna drink anything special or should we stick to water?" Seojin reaches down and pats his stomach. He glances up from the menu when a server sets miso soup and rice in front of both of them. He nods his head and proceeds with his order, eyes flickering to Akio to wait for his own. Only when the server leaves does he continue speaking. "Think we could run away to Japan one of these days and you can take me to one of those okonomiyaki places? Or I can try making more stuff at the dorm for you now that you're stuck with me, huh?"
He squeezes his eyes shut before opening them again a few times, but the dizziness persists. “I’m not sure, honestly…” He responds to Seojin’s question. “I think I had a granola bar but it’s been a while. At lunch, maybe?” Which is obviously far too little for the amount of exercise he’s been doing all day. His body is screaming for some relaxation and fuel and it’s time he listens. He can’t even remember at what time they got here, and their last break was… how long ago again? “I’ll eat an extra portion, promise,” he says hurriedly before Seojin has a chance to scold him for not eating properly.
Sleep… a concept that’s becoming more and more foreign recently. Or at least good, restful sleep. He tends to doze off at random times throughout the day to avoid crashing completely, but it clearly isn’t enough. He caught himself getting irritated more easily, much unlike his usual cheerful demeanor. “Tomorrow sounds good. We stop at 7 no matter what.” One evening to unwind doesn’t seem like such a luxury, but after everything they’ve been through, it sounds like an absolute dream. A fantasy, even. “There’s a nice Japanese place near the dorms, what do you think? It’s been a while.”
Once they get there, the restaurant is still buzzing with customers, most of them in small groups, drinking beer and eating late-night snacks. It’s emptier than it probably was a few hours ago, which allows them to find a quieter spot where Akio won’t feel like his head’s about to split in half. “I’m getting a nice bowl of ramen. Oh, and we should get karaage too! What do you want? It's my treat today.”

BEHIND THE MASK ✱ @lgcjieun
There is an aching in Seojin's stomach that cannot be filled by simple snacks here and there. An intern retrieved tiny bags of gummies and mixed nuts that are more suited to be labeled as airplane food rather than catering from such a big company. The peckish feeling only grows the more the shoot goes on, and with his 'role' being as insignificant as it were, the tinges of boredom begin to wash over him in droves. Like high tide at a seashore.
Eventually, he ventures toward one of the coffee trucks gifted to an actor ( following in the footsteps of another extra ). His eyes gloss over as he glances over the smiling pictures, looking directly into the unblinking stare that bores back at him. They shift toward the barista in the truck, barely able to see him fulfilling his request for an iced tea.
When he receives his drink and turns, he unexpectedly meets eyes with an approaching figure. It does not entirely register that it's Park Gyuyoung — of all people — who he hastily gives a nod too before quickening his pace in another direction. But his head snaps back to make sure it was really her, giving all ignorance to the path in front of him until he is impeded by some unstoppable force meeting his immovable object.
Seojin reacts quickly enough to prevent spilling his drink — just enough to make it only slightly overflow from the opening near the straw. A slight sprinkling of liquid drips down his forearm. He nearly curses, but remembers where he is when he comes face to face with an especially dolled up Jieun. "Oh, it's you," certainly no way for an extra to be speaking to one of the stars of the whole movie but their history is clear from his words alone. "Why does running into you always involve spilling stuff?"
