c!Phil and c!Wilbur remain one of my absolute favorite duos to read fic about to this day. It's simply because I am still salty at how much those two left on the table RP-wise. They could have given so much more -- and we got enough HINTS to show they knew there was stuff they could mine there and just didn't -- that the fics at least let me pretend their really complex relationship got the attention it deserved.

After Wilbur's last stream in October, where he and Phil had characters that argued even briefly in the same way I desperately wanted their dsmp characters to, the need to see some complex Phil and Wilbur dynamics has been hitting extra hard.

Like, come on, none of their other RP-versions of had that same spice to their relationship. It's the father-son dynamics where the son feels pressured to be something for his father that he can't even articulate, to the point of lying, and the father feels like he raised a stranger and mainly learns about his own kid through other's impressions of him. A son who feels safe enough to ask his dad to give him shelter when he's homeless and just literally raised from the dead and also a son who knew he could convince his dad to kill him by playing up some fucked up monster slayer instinct in him. A father who was worried enough to show up and then stay through the aftermath of when his son broke down, but also one that never understood what his son actually was doing or what was important to him.

Arrghhh.

Phil: See, this is- this is great and all, but, like, when you- when you look at what actually happened, they did just have full on sex. They did just fck in the main Global building. Like, they christened it. They christened it with them fcking. It- very good art, by the way. Very good, very good. You took a cursed situation and made it really pretty, thank you. Good job. Thank you artists. Artists always doing the best for the community. Taking just like, Charlie and Mariana just role playing actual full blown sex in the global room and making it cute and like, "Oh, wow, they're back together, oh, stars."
