it's so fucking annoying being neurodivergent. like was i at the top of my class? yes. do my professors think i'm one of the best minds they've taught in the past few years? yes. (i don't believe it myself but they've said it a couple of time so fuck i) but NOW when i have a phd interview lined up my profs have zero academic advice for me only reminders like "don't slouch! maintain eye contact but not too much! don't talk too fast, okay? try to be very subdued and don't argue with the panel even if they ask you stupid questions! also, practice smiling as you talk, it creates a good impression!"

like, i get it. these professors love me, they're some of the best friends i have and they're looking out for me. and i see how much they hate giving me this kind of advice. what annoys me is how ableist the system is. nobody fucking cares about your ability to think or write or do cool funky research. it all comes down to whether you can smile and follow a certain standard of behaviour. it's fucking disgusting.

one thing that REALLY bothers me about people shitting on penelope's character is that people are consistently asking for nuanced and interesting women characters, more depth, more complexity. and here she is! penelope is at once sweet, innocent, shy but also can be selfish, impulsive, judging. she is literally just a girl, growing up and trying to find her place and somehow people hate her for it.

I love the difference between Pen and Colin. She’s loved him for years, silently but unwavering. While he’s just come to the realisation that somewhere along the line he’s fallen completely head over heels for her and he is UNHINGED about it. All I’m saying is Colin wouldn’t last a minute in the asylum where they raised her.
