my mom comes into my room

and sits on the edge of my bed

while i am trying my hardest

to disappear into the mattress.

she pats my knee in a way

that i'm sure is supposed

to feel comforting and

she tells me my problem is that

i have too much free time.

i don't know how to tell her

that it's not free;

every minute that i'm alive

is a battle to keep it that way.

every day that i survive

feels like a fucking miracle.

i am the furthest from freedom

that i have ever been.
