It was uncommon for Liviana to be anywhere other than her home or within the library of the university but on this evening she was feeling a need to be elsewhere.  “Just an orange juice please.”  Her response was automatic.  She placed her elbow on the bar and her head within her hand.  Realisation of where she was then struck.  Her drink choice may not have been the best.  “Maybe something else also in a few minutes.”

“What can I get you?” Ariella sensed someone at the bar and spoke while she cut lemons, only glancing up at the other person. She had been working more hours than ever now that she wasn’t working for Ian York, and was towards the end of a long shift.

Lottie laughed loudly at the question, almost spilling her coffee in the process.  Putting the cup down she grinned, “Because you know that I am totally going to go all out to win the costume competition?”

The reaction from Lottie caused Livy to laugh in a way she could not even attempt to hide.  She let it happen and placed her cup down also.  “You shall have no competition from me.  I am not a fan of the attention dressing up brings.  Though if you are going all out I feel I should warn you sparks and fire shall not be allowed into the building.”  She laughed again.  “Do you have the outfit already planned out?”

“Why does hearing you say this cause me to begin to feel nervous?”  Livy lifted her coffee to attempt to hide her smile.

“Costumes and masks, hmm the possibilities,” Lottie remarked as she saw the email from Martina forwarding the invite to the Romano party.

“I had just started to think that his was looking familiar.”  Livy stopped.  Her hand lifted to rub the back of her neck.  “I am searching for a temporary Halloween store which has been recommended.  It would appear my directions are incorrect though.  Are you aware of where it is?”

“I hate to be the one to point this out but, you’ve passed by at least two or three times.  Are you a little lost?”

Francesca left the young visitor to her wandering and took herself off towards the cottages to check for signs of activity.  She hadn’t gone far when the brunette appeared, her voice full of panic.  “Is this a little church mouse that you have lost?” Francesca asked, her lips curling into a slight smirk.

The strangeness of the question had Livy stunned from her panic.  She was silent for some seconds and just blinked.  “Church... mouse...?  No Auntie she is a girl.  A pretty human girl.”  She would normally have held back the word ‘pretty’ but she slipped and did not realise her mistake.  “Why would I be looking for a church mouse?  I do not own one.”

Livy’s questions startled Mae and she froze, trying to sort out her thoughts enough for a coherent answer. “I - I did see her, a little while ago,” she finally said, twisting her fingers together. “And then I needed to go back to Wolfgang and - I’m not sure where she went. She was fine though, when I left.” Her tone was a little defensive, as she was afraid that somehow she would get in trouble for not knowing where their guest was at the current time.

Livy would normally have been less intense when interacting with Mae.  This time though her concern was for Luan and she missed the fright her questions had given the woman.  “You have?  Where was she?”  Her relief was clear but Livy still had concerns.  This caused her to blurt more questions which she knew Mae may not know the answers but she could not stop herself.  “How was she?  Was she ok?  Was she upset?  Was she scared?  Was she angry?  Did she say why she left?”

“Shhh… tell no one.” Silvius replied with a gentle chuckle, although his gaze was on the photos. When his Celia was an infant, he had been dealing with a dramatic claim, then her death and his duties as Head of the family. He had not taken the time he should have with her, the time she deserved and there was a tinge of regret at that thought. He loved his girl but he had missed so much.

“You should. I think if you let yourself you’d have a good time and you know the girls would watch your back. They are good for such things.” Silvius shrugged lightly and continued on scrolling through the photos. “Ohh, a new car? Perhaps?”

Livy placed her fingers to one side of her lip and moved them across to the other side.  She added a “zzzp” sound effect to add to the gesture and then laughed.  “It shall be our little secret uncle Silvius.”  She remained quiet to allow him the time to go through the photographs at a pace of his choosing.  She hoped he was getting some enjoyment from seeing the members of the family who he had not seen in some time.

Livy laughed again.  “By ‘watch my back’ you are meaning they shall find an unsuspecting submissive and attempt to have me flirt with him for their amusement.”  She was teasing.  She was aware her cousins would look after her.  Though she was also sure she was correct in her assessment also.  “A car?”  She could not hide her surprise.  “Now you are having my full attention.”

“We all know you’re the spicy one in this friendship.” Deo teased as he closed the door behind her. “You know a good bottle needs to breathe.” he  continued with a chuckle. “And you are always funny, even when sober. You are just louder when you are drunk.” He shook his head wryly. “After wine. Definitely after food and wine. How about you?”

“This is true though I am still certain you are simply afraid that you may actually taste something should you move away from that which you know.”  Livy liked that she could tease back also.  It was a section of her personality which displayed when she was comfortable such as now.  “In my home they are left to breath for a number of days which I feel may be too long.”  She laughed.  She was not a heavy drinker so wine did last some time around her.  Though she of course did not leave it open.  “You are meaning ‘funny’ as in strange I am sure.  This I am unable to argue with.”  She laughed again.  “I may become louder but I still do not reach the levels of Celia and Georgie when they are drunk also.”  She nodded.  “Food and wine first then.  I am... an aunt now.  Which I am still not sure I am believing.  It is scary to think of.  I am a student again also.  If I am honest I am looking forward to hiding in a quiet library once again so that I am able to escape the business of this city.”

Livy awoke suddenly.  For a moment she thought the fear and panic of the previous evening had been a bad dream but the more she thought the more she realised it had been real.  There was something missing though.  “Lu?”  She got up and looked around.  “Luan?”  Her calls received no response and she was nowhere she looked.  Livy felt her nerves spike.  As a visitor to the estate Luan was her responsibility.  She got dressed quickly and ran from her home to look around the estate.  She stopped running just before bumping in to somebody.  “Sorry!  Have you seen a girl?  She is this high.  Short brown hair.  She shall appear to be afraid of her own shadow.  Have you seen her?”  Her tone was full of panic and concern.

“There seems something very wrong about keeping a record of cups of coffee that I owe you.  Not to mention I am sure you will have so many willing friends to buy you coffee that you will have forgotten all about me as I stew away in some crazy lab for hours on end and you are relaxing in the fresh air with coffee and cake.”  She pouted instinctively as the cake was suddenly pulled away from her. “Now that’s just rude,” she blurted out, a little more forceful that perhaps was necessary before she reined herself in again.  “You offered it to me so you cannot not renege the offer,” she continued with a bit more a playful grin.

Livy looked thoughtful as she attempted to think of a comeback but she was unable to think of anything witty enough.  “Perhaps you are correct about the keeping of records.  I shall not do this and enjoy your company whilst I am able to receive it.  Though I feel you are mistaken that I shall become popular and have many friends.  I shall have to speak to people for this and that is not one of my strengths.”  She laughed.  “The opposite is actually true.  I am certain I shall be the loner hiding in the library instead.”  She smiled from the outburst.  She appreciated Lottie holding back also but the brief glimpse of the fieriness within her reminded her why she had been a good choice for company and why she liked the other woman also.   “Hmmm...” She looked at the cake piece and then back to Lottie.  “You are correct once again.  You may have the rest of this piece.”  She lifted a plate and placed the slice upon it.  She then handed over.  “That means this is mine though.”  She picked up the whole rest of the cake and grinned.

Deo opened the door, having thoroughly scrubbed himself clean, pulling on a old plaid button down over a pair of jeans, and then giving the place a once over. “Pizza is the way to my cold dead little heart. Thanks Livy.” Deo replied as he leaned in to brush a kiss over his cousin’s cheek. “Come on in. The wine is breathing and ready to be poured.”

Livy smiled.  “One of them is hot and spicy so perhaps this shall revive or at least warm up that little heart you have.”  She laughed.  She was starting to believe all she had heard was true also.  She leaned into the kiss.  Their closeness had not changed which was good.  “The wine is open already?  Now I am thinking you have just invited me here because I am funny when I am drunk.”  She moved into the home and looked around.  “May I ask how you have been or is this an after wine question?”
