The area that will later be called Scottsdale was originally settled by the Hohokam civilization. These people inhabited the region between 300 BC and 1450 AD. During their stay in the region, they farmed and also developed a complex network of canals to aid irrigation. The canals they made was the best in the in pre-Columbian North America. The canals later increased in area to about 250 miles. It will amaze you to know that the canals made by the Hohokam people are still in use till date with some having been renovated.

 Under what will be termed mysterious circumstances, around 1450, the Hohokam people suddenly disappeared. There are different theories that proved their disappearance. One of such theories is the possibility of being swept out by a prolonged drought in the region. The Pima and O’odham (also known as the Papago) later occupied the region. These people are thought to be directly related to the Hohokam people. Scottsdale today is a peaceful city, and, in fact, one of the prominent cities in the US state of Arizona. It now features a lot of beautiful sceneries and landmarks attracting visitors from across the state.
