Disaster Preparedness of Barangay Baritan

We interviewed Captain Glen of the DRRM representative of Barangay Baritan, village of Santo Rosarsio. I asked questions about how the Barangay is planning and taking action on the coming calamities and disasters. Barangay had a lot of experience dealing with risk in the subdivision. The unforgettable catastrophic danger or calamity faced by the village is when the typhoon "ondoy" hits because the region is prone to flooding, particularly in the streets of the Sta Rita and the village of Sta Rosario.

Understanding these calamities makes us more aware of it and prepared for future disasters. The barangay baritan always have 2 days of city disaster preparedness to face the coming intense typhoons by having a team talk and meetings to interact.Floods are common problems in baritan, because the area is close to the river bank. Residents of the baritan having a hard time going to work due to the flood. Residents may receive a letter certificate of absentees to the barangay of the baritan to have a reason for their absence on that specified date.

The evacuation area of the barangay baritan is the Arellano College, the Rodriguez School and the Baritan Day Health Centre. Until innovations, every day the barangay had a safe check on every street in the baritan. When technology grows, the barangay now has an early warning system to alert the residents and the CCTV to have a 24/7 surveillance check in every street of the baritan as well as a semi command center to announce events and upcoming alerts to the residents of the baritan. The Barangay Council, the Non-Profit Organization, Tanod and Fire Volunteers are leaders in the planning for future emergencies and disasters.
