I am sorry asks and PMs are unanswered, I have been lurking, and even that was done scarcely, as things are wild here atm.

I'm going to be drafting answers tonight and replying PMs, and asks will be posted tomorrow after my final exam.

I have achieved so much-" As arrogant as that sounded, Ben was proud of the results of all his efforts, "-and my Ring and I have come so far, and I am proud of us. I am convinced that we can make a difference." The corners of his lips twitched as he tried to hold back a smile.

"I've been taught to work for what I want, to follow my beliefs and my heart. I feel I am doing the right thing. So..." he fidgeted with the edge of his coat thoughtfully for a moment.

"As exhausted as I am. As much as I wish I had done some things differently, and even as the weight on my shoulders from my grievings and responsibilities is heavier by the day... I do not regret having enlisted." he insisted.

Benjamin paused, thoughtfully, as he weighed both options, and he shook his head. The answer was, in the end, quite easy: "Save an enemy from death, of course." As to why... "I would never dare bring harm upon those I love, or not on purpose. I have my fair share of wrongs, like any man, I am not excent of making mistakes. But I've been taught to have mercy and compassion, even to those who have wronged me." he shrugged, looking up at the asker. "It doesn't mean it will necessarily be... pleasant. But In future, a favor owed could mean having an ally."

"Forgive him?" Ben snorted at the riddiculousness of the question. His tone held a bitter edge to it, as he leaned back on his seat to look up better at the asker.

"What should I forgive him for?" He tilted his head, smiling, but there was no warmth in it. "Maybe the slaughtering of my troop? Or handing over Nathan to the King's army? Even better! Use the life -or should I say, death- of my brother to lure me into his trap?"

As he spoke, he was unable to keep the fury out of his tone. The resentment he felt for the man... He could almost say he felt hatred, something he had never held over anyone else before. He shook his head with weak amusement as he took a swig off his bottle of madeira, -the one that Caleb had brought earlier- and placed it aside once more.

"No. There is nothing I should forgive him for. No reason I should absolve that man from his deeds. He is crude, cruel and a bastard and he will pay for all he has done. To this army. To these families. To me."

He stood, staring into the fire with distaste. "I will see to it." He promised quietly, mostly to himself, and turned away, his mood having dropped rather swiftly from this conversation.

Benjamin paused briefly, weighting both options, but even then, to him, the answer seemed quite simple.

"Equestrian club." He admitted, slowly. "You see, fencing has never been particularly one of my interests, even if I've engaged in some of it to try it out." He smiled weakly, shrugging. "And I must admit, horses are lovely creatures, and I find myself in tune with them. Being part of a troop that includes cavalry is nothing but an added benefit."

He was joking; commanding his troop was a great honor, for sure, but being able to do so in the way he was made it plenty more enjoyable.
