Here is my idea.

In season 4: episode distant memory we see anthea being kidnapped by men in black. We see men in black a lot. So I’m guessing Tyron got pissed off at franz hopper for something and decided to go after him. Instead of capturing him, Tyron abducted anthea hopper instead. So maybe xana creating a specter of anthea in a previous episode was to tell aelita something about the past, which lead to aelita in the cortex and seeing her mother working for Tyron.
