DI Alec Hardy from Broadchurch is an Autistic Character

- Is abrupt with people, doesn’t waste words, doesn’t do small talk or social niceties: Ellie: ‘we could go to the pub, we’ve never been to the pub’ Alec: ‘no’

- Doesn’t like his name, doesn’t like saying other people’s first names, has a hard time remembering names (Ellie’s family’s names)

- Doesn’t know socially expected things, seems to be learning or trying to understand what everyone else already knows: that people have their bosses over for dinner, he bring wine, flowers, and chocolate because he doesn’t know what to bring to dinner

- Does not easily make friends or connections: closest is Ellie and he tells her he’s had surgery by a text after the fact

- Wears his own ‘uniform’: always in a button up shirt and usually a suit, even when others are dressed down

- Complicated relationship with food: Might be picky because of taste or texture (definitely at times for medical reasons) also fussy at chicken joint, often doesn’t want to eat because he’s busy or forgets, makes plain toast and lots of tea for himself

- Strong Sense of justice

- Does somethings not considered traditionally masculine: says he’s nervous on the date he goes on, his date is surprised he admits this

- Swivels back and forth in desk chair to stim

- Known for not hugging or being very touchy feely with people other than family, he does hug his daughter

- Very loyal: doesn’t want to give up on cases, protects his family when his wife messes up

- Doesn’t change focus easily: constantly on the job

- Studies people but doesn’t understand them

- Empathetic, feels things strongly but doesn’t always show it the way that would be expected: apears distant, in fact incredible hurt and impacted by events so much so it makes him ill

- Intense eye contact and no eye contact at different times

Rewatch Broadchurch and next thing I know, I’m working on a broadchurch fic. Come on, imagine Hardys, Millers and Latimers can actually be such a beautiful found family. They all went through so much shit but still soo strong. They all deserve more happiness and family time.

Aaaand, omg I just wanna scream and hug Alec Hardy this ridiculous man A LOOOOT!! Pls he deserves sooooo much love and kindness and some real friends like Miller.

Oh and also some father-daughter time, they finally FINALLY get back together, so why not? They still have so much to talk and figure out, maybe some confessions or apologies, but we didn’t have much in S3. And, Tess please go away❌

Anyway, this one (maybe these?) will be some domestic and soft fluff. And it’s definitely alright if someone also wants to use this as a prompt or something, I’ll be over the moon!

You know, the way David hosted the BAFTAs reminds me of what Olivia Coleman said about him in the video for his special recognition award many moons ago.

That he is entirely devoid of ego.

David Tennant didn't make the BAFTAs about himself. He was kind and genuine and didn't tear anyone down for a joke. He was literally there to celebrate the other films and actors.

Other award hosts could learn a lot from him (hell, people, in general, could learn a lot from him).

Proud to see David Tennant succeeding and being absolutely brilliant.

That scene where Aziraphale says it makes Crowley happy to rescue him is probably the most obvious moment to show how he lives in a completely made up reality, where he sees what he wants to see, not what’s actually happening.

One; because we clearly see that it makes Aziraphale happy, not Crowley.

Two; because we see Aziraphale’s the one coming up with rescue scenarios to see Crowley, not Crowley.

Three; Crowley either gets hurt (burns) or tells him to stop because he will get in trouble with Hell and they do much worse than sending mean notes etc. It’s always a dangerous situation for him. So I wouldn’t say it’s a happy one. But Aziraphale tends to ignore the negative.

Four; Crowley keeps on trying to talk to Aziraphale about dangers so he’d stop needing to be rescued, and he’s clearly worried for him, meanwhile Aziraphale doesn’t listen.

It doesn’t make Crowley happy.

I’m sure he’s generally happy to see Aziraphale, but no I don’t think rescuing makes him happy. I think Aziraphale either wishes it did so he told himself it does, or he just doesn’t want to admit that it’s all Aziraphale himself. Maybe he got called out on waiting for his man to save him so quickly turned it to oh no I only do it because it makes him happy, of course. Maybe it’s just he wants to believe it makes Crowley happy because it would mean Crowley loves him as this is how the love shows in romance novels.

But don’t drop the responsibility on him, Angel, when it’s all you, darling.

I love all the times Crowley shows his boundaries. “Enough, I’m leaving.” “You’re on your own with this one.” “Don’t bother.” etc. He knows exactly when Aziraphale crosses the line. Which shows how well Crowley knows himself. It shows his confidence and knowledge in who he is. It’s one of the many ways he shows it but an important one. He has his boundaries and he doesn’t like them crossed.

Crowley loves Aziraphale so of course if Aziraphale is in danger he will come back because Aziraphale’s safety is more important to him than their fights and not agreeing on something, even when Aziraphale can be hurtful. Crowley can be pissed but he will prioritise Aziraphale’s safety like a good partner would. He can even apologise when Aziraphale should be the one apologising instead just because it’s more important for Crowley to ensure Aziraphale is safe. Priorities.

He’s very mature and self realised.

I think that Aziraphale did not realise this, he did not understand it the way Crowley did and so he never learned - hence the ending when he pushes him so far that Crowley snaps. It is too much this time. Crowley will do a lot to keep Aziraphale safe but he will not follow him that far, not where he would lose himself.

So now it is time for Aziraphale to learn who he is, what his priorities are, and what matters. And understand Crowley, too. Most of all, stop assuming that he’s always right and that Crowley was wrong when Crowley was simply prioritising.

Like Neil and David said in that interview, Crowley is smart, he gets it, now it’s time for Aziraphale to learn.

And what better way to learn than going to Heaven on his own without the love of his life to lean on and save the day.
