ACTIVITY 3.3: Online Class Experience, Study Habits and Strategies
September 19, 2021
In the last two weeks, I experienced several things in our online class and tried to improve my study habits and strategies.
I learned a lot in different subjects, such as philosophers and their theories, C++ in a nutshell, logic in modern world, and redox reactions. I really enjoyed redox reactions since it was one of my favorite topics when I was in Senior High.
These two weeks was really tiring. We had a load of activities from different subjects given at the same time. Even though they had different due dates, it was still tough. Thankfully, I finished the activities on or before the due date. It felt like I can already sleep peacefully and get some rest from all those tiring nights. It lessened the load off my shoulders. I felt really great that time.
It was also announced that the Dyned app are not accessible for two or more weeks since the developers will have a maintenance check and improve their system. It was kind of shocking since our midterms will be in the app and the day is closing in. Most of us were still not able to meet the time needed, which was 20 hours for midterms. It was also saddening since I enjoyed working with the app and it helps me with the English language. We hope that it will be back soon.
My study habits and strategies depend on the condition of my mood. If I’m loaded with work, as much as possible, I try to do it as early as I can to lessen the activities and assignments. However, if I think that there’s not that much to do, like there are only three to five activities, I’ll slack off and just sleep and rest. I just do it when I feel like it. Of course, I’m still responsible and I usually pass it on time.
Even though it was kind of a hell week, it was fulfilling on my part. My two weeks were productive and it was not a waste. I hope I’ll learn more in the next two weeks.

In the last two weeks, I experienced several things in our online class and tried to improve my study habits and strategies.
I learned a lot in different subjects, such as limits and continuity, balancing chemical equations, communication in debates, physical movement, and programming. I really enjoyed programming. It was hard and challenging, but it was fun.
The teachers in each subject are considerate and they really try to understand students who have unstable internet connection and those who were affected in power outage. Since our area was affected, I still tried to connect using mobile data. However, my phone was not fully charged. When it was the last subject, the battery of my phone was really low. It was good that the electricity turned back on, since I don’t want to be absent in our last subject for the day.
It was also announced last week that MSTeams will be used for all subjects as an online class platform. However, most of us prefers Google classroom and meet, since it is much better and it does not consume data as much as MSTeams does. I hope that the school would rethink about it and reconsider.
When there are assignments given, I usually sleep at 9:00 or 10:00 PM and wake up at 1:00 or 2:00 AM to do the activities. But if I’m free of work, I sleep at 10:00 or 11:00 PM and wake up at 6:00 or 7:00 AM. I usually try to balance my time in doing school works and my chores. However, when my laziness strikes and there is still time, I just eat and sleep for the day and leave my works and chores for tomorrow.
Time management is really important. It has been a great help to me to somewhat enjoy the online class and do what I want to do in my free time. Sure, school works and doing my chores are kind of heavy and it tires me out, but it is manageable, as long as I know how to manage my time.

ACTIVITY 3.1: From High School to College
High school feels like it just happened yesterday. But in reality, today, Ber months already started, September has ended and October has started, and the year 2022 is near.
This year, 2021, I’m already in college and a lot has changed since high school. Those were fun times. Well, online classes are somewhat enjoyable, but I would prefer face-to-face classes and that the current pandemic would never exist. However, what’s done is done. College sure is hard, but I hope I’ll be fine. I just have to keep it up and give my best wherever I can.
My high school days would be the one of the experiences I most enjoyed. There were some challenges, but it was exciting. If I would compare it with College, I would say that Junior High is better than Senior High, and both are much better than College.
In Junior High, I was still childish and didn’t think much about my future. While it is true that I’m still childish until now, I think I’ve matured enough. I learned a lot, not only in academics, but also in other aspects. I learned how to value money and other things that are important, such as friendship, friendly competition and the teachers that helped us throughout Junior High. It was also in Junior High that I came out as bisexual, not to my parents but to my classmates and friends. They didn’t mind. They still befriended me and my other gay classmates and accept us for who we are. There were some tough times; teachers scolding us for being one of the worst sections they held, issues our section had, and other negative comments about us. However, we got through it together and still made it to the moving up ceremony. After that, I decided to enroll in a different school for Senior High.
During my Senior High years, since I transferred, I had to adjust with the school environment. The teachers were kind of strict regarding manners because it is a Chinese school. Compared to my previous school, I would say I like it better before I transferred. But I thought that it was nice for a change. My first year was fun. We played volleyball and other sports for P.E., the male teachers were kind of good looking, and the female teachers are very nice. What I like the most is their teaching style. They are really good teachers. I really learned a lot. However, in my second year, it was a hassle. It was the year 2020 where pandemic has started. It was really hard to adjust like hell, since it was our first time doing the online class. It felt like the aliens are invading our planet. Teachers and students really had a hard time. Months passed by; it slowly became part of our everyday. With the pandemic cases still rising, it was impossible to bring back face-to-face classes. It became the “new normal”. Sure, it was not that bad, but it was not that good either.
Fast forward to the day of graduation. Well, before the graduation, we took entrance test from different Universities of our choice. It was nerve-wrecking for me because my current school, Western Mindanao State University (WMSU), is the only school I applied and took a test. I had negative thoughts; like what if I won’t pass, where would I study or will I become a NEET. Thankfully, I still made it. When graduation day came, it was “meh”, I felt nothing. It should have been one of the days that are memorable, but it was just another day. It was sad that our batch experienced this. However, I’m still thankful that I graduated; that I can start a new journey with my college life.
It’s been almost three months since I got in college. I’m currently a Computer Engineering (BSCPE) student. Sure, my grades from last year were not that good, I also got 78 in Calculus and I literally have zero experience in programming. However, that’s not going to stop me from taking this course. We’re still having our classes online; synchronous and asynchronous. While it is true that my schedule has a lot of vacant time, it is still heavy compared to high school. We’re having more homework and activities. I also have classes on weekends. Plus, I spend my free time doing my chores. And I hope that my laziness won’t strike since it’s hard to pick myself up to do the things I need to do. I’m usually free at night, but I’m too tired and sleepy to watch animes, read or do whatever I want. That’s why time management is a must. I just need to balance my time for everything. It’s also for my own good.
Wow, it was one heck of a ride from high school through college. A lot of things happened. And it made me who I am today.
Just a little encouragement to myself and to others:
Don’t forget to take care and rest if you’re tired. Try to be productive every day and make a change. You can do it!
