For Sweden, with the times
In 2010, the Swedish royal family began the decade with five core members. Over the course of the decade, through three weddings and seven babies, that increased to fifteen members. It’s unlikely we’ll experience such an influx of new members for the next two decades.

How many days did the Scandinavian and Spanish royal families work in 2019?By Heaven LeeMiller  5th January 2020
Tumblr media
At the end of each year, we can study and comment on the work of the British Royal Family. The UFO No More team decided to look at the work of the Scandinavian and Spanish royal families which is something that is not always done.
Before diving into the data, a small disclaimer is needed. These numbers represent the days worked by each member of the royal families based on their official calendar. Of course, there are meetings, “office work” to prepare each event that we don’t know about, so they are all working more than these numbers show, but they still are a good overview. It was decided to count the days worked rather than the numbers of events because it was easier but also clearer. Naturally, they sometimes attend several events a day.
Tumblr media
Let’s start with the Danish Royal Family. For the year of 2019, someone in the family had a publicly announced event a total of 227 days of the year – 62% of the days in 2019. It was 220 days in 2018 and 260 days in 2017.
While Crown Prince Frederik was the member of the Royal Family who worked the most days last year, this is not the case this year as Queen Margrethe has the highest number with 116 days worked. Princess Benedikte also worked more than in 2018, and it looks like she will continue to increase her workload this year as she attended the New Year gala dinner for the first time in many years earlier this week. Crown Prince Frederik worked slightly fewer days in 2019 than in 2018 while Crown Princess Mary worked nine days more. Both Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary acted as Regent during the year, as did Prince Joachim and Princess Benedikte. Prince Joachim and Princess Marie both worked less following their move to France in the summer. It is also important to note that up until their move, they had day jobs –  he worked with the Armed Forces, and she worked with the Danish Emergency Management Agency.
Tumblr media
Onto the Swedish Royal Family now. In 2019, someone in the family had a ‘publicly announced event’ total of 222 days of the year.
While King Carl XVI Gustaf is the one with the most days worked, Crown Princess Victoria had her personal busiest year ever, coming close to her father in terms of days worked. Queen Silvia also had more days worked in 2019 than in 2018. While Prince Daniel, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia have similar numbers compared to 2018, Princess Madeleine worked eight days more, probably due to the release of her book in collaboration with the World Childhood Foundation. Princess Madeleine also works with the Foundation.
Tumblr media
Continuing on his impressive workload in 2018, Crown Prince Haakon is the member of the Norwegian Royal Family with the most days worked according to their calendar in 2019. King Harald still works a lot though as he is usually hosting many audiences several days a week. Understandably following her pulmonary fibrosis diagnosis last year, Crown Princess Mette-Marit couldn’t work as much as she did in the previous year. Princess Märtha Louise and Princess Astrid only attend family events and events related to their foundations or patronages which explains their lower numbers compared to the rest of the family.
We noticed last year that Princess Ingrid Alexandra had been attending more non-traditional family events, and she continued doing that in 2019, attending several events related to the Princess Ingrid Alexandra Sculpture Park.
Tumblr media
In 2019, a working member of the Spanish Royal Family had an announced event on 205 days out of 365 according to Casa Real’s calendar. King Felipe is the member of the family who has the most days worked, but Queen Letizia and Queen Sofia worked more days than in 2018 while King Juan Carlos and Infanta Elena worked fewer days.
As we had already seen in 2018, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía attended more official events this year. They both joined their parents for several important events including the Princess of Asturias and Princess of Girona awards during which Princess Leonor held her first speeches.
As stated multiple times, these numbers are only based on the official calendars and represent days worked not events attended. Thus, these numbers are an overview of the work of the royal families, but it is essential to acknowledge that they work more than these numbers show.
The graphs and data belong to Sarah Williams (The Royals and I/ UFO No More) and Heaven LeeMiller (Princess Marie’s Closet/UFO No More) who have graciously allowed us to use them. If you wish to use them, please do it with credit and a link to the original post.

Prince Carl Philip’s cousin is splitting from his model wife
JANUARY 15, 2020 BY
ALEXANDRA HURTADO
King Carl XVI Gustaf’s nephew Gustaf Magnuson and his wife Vicky Andrén have split after six years of marriage. Princess Christina of Sweden’s son and the model shared the news with Swedish news outlet Expressen. “We have made a joint and undramatic decision to go different paths, but continue to be good friends and a good team as parents of our beloved daughter,” they said.
Gustaf and Vicky continued, “We ask that we go through this separation period in peace and quiet with regard to the well-being of our family and for our daughter.”

The former couple share one child together, daughter Désirée, who born in 2014. The district court reportedly accepted the pair’s joint application for divorce on January 13. Vicky and Gustaf tied the knot in August of 2013. Their wedding was attended by the Swedish King, Queen Silvia, Prince Daniel, Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia, in addition to Norway’s Queen Sonja. Gustaf, who is the son of Swedish businessman Tord Magnuson and the King’s older sister, Princess Christina, is godfather to Princess Madeleine’s four-year-old son, Prince Nicolas.
Vicky and the Swedish Princess’ son have a close relationship with their royal relatives and are often spotted at royal family events, including Crown Princess Victoria’s 40th birthday celebrations, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia’s nuptials, as well as Princess Madeleine and Christopher O'Neill’s royal wedding. On New Year’s Eve, Vicky shared a photo of her daughter watching a concert performed by the military orchestra in the royal chapel. The mom of one captioned the post with the hashtags: “#swedish #military #orchestra #royalchapel #royalpalace #parentsinlaw #mydaughterlovesmusic.”

Meet Princess Sofia and Prince Carl Philip - Sweden's answer to Meghan and Harry
Caitlin McBride
July 14 2019 8:23 AM
If there's one good thing that's come from Meghan and Harry's aversion to the press, it's the new wealth of royals to whom we can adjust our gaze.
While ‘lesser’ British royals like Lady Gabriella Windsor and Kitty Spencer are enjoying the newfound fame and attention that is a direct knock-on effect from Markle-mania, there are even more interesting personalities further afield in Europe.
Chief among them is Sweden’s Prince Carl Philip and his wife Princess Sofia, the equivalent to Meghan and Harry.
Carl Philip is fourth in line to the Swedish throne as his older sister Crown Princess Victoria will ascend the throne when her parents King Gustaf and Queen Silvia end their reign. As such, he’s been afforded different freedoms than his sister when it comes to royal duties (his younger sister Princess Madeleine even more so).
Until 2015, he was mostly known only within his country, but his wedding to Sofia Hellqvist, that year catapulted them to international prominence thanks to their blindingly attractive looks, heartwarming love story with just a sprinkle of controversy.
Sofia and Carl had been dating for six years before they married at The Royal Chapel in Stockholm Palace, having first met in 2009 at a nightclub in Bastad, Sweden and both described it as love at first sight.
"The first thing I noticed about Carl Philip was that he seemed very humble," Sofia told Swedish channel TV 4 in a joint interview after announcing their engagement in 2014. "When I got to know him, I saw that he was incredibly natural, very intelligent and very humble." She went on to call him her “best friend”.
Carl Philip returned the praise, saying: Above all, she's beautiful and has beautiful eyes," she said. "But she's also a fantastic person. She's down to earth and has a wonderful personality. There are so many good things to say about her."
"I don't think I knew the magic of love before I met Sofia," added the prince, 36. "But ever since I met her, I've seen how love can change a person."
Their modern day love story was reported around the world and suddenly there was global fascination into Sweden’s Sweethearts. Suddenly, Sofia, a former glamour model who posed topless with a boa constrictor and was named Miss Slitz [magazine] and a contestant on reality tv series Paradise Hotel was going public with her long-term romance and committing to a lifetime bound by royal duty in the name of love.
She found the criticism and interest in her life nine years ago to be suffocating as many, as critics tend to, felt she was not a suitable match as a future princess.
"It was very tough. People had comments on everything possible, on what I do and how I look," she told TV4.
"I was met with an enormous hate storm from people who had opinions about me as a person, about my relationship. I was surprised and it definitely affected me. I didn’t understand that people had such need to express how badly they felt about me. It was very tough."
Now, she no longer reads anything about herself in a bid to protect her mental health. And while some were quick to point out elements of her career they found unsavoury, her work with children well before her wedding went largely ignored.
In 2005, she lived in New York where she studied accounting and business development and work as a waitress to support herself. She then studied at Stockholm University where she studied  global ethics, child and youth science, children's communication and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
After that, she established the Sofia Hellqvist Project Playground, which supports underprivileged children in South Africa.
Over the last four years, she and Carl Philip have welcomed two children - Princes Gabriel and Alexander - and she and her sister-in-law are focused on wholesome activities like hiking all 25 provinces of Sweden and spending time with her family. But her flawless fashion choices in the Instagram age have made her a social media icon among royal watchers.

After a guest appearance in 2019, the Prince of Sweden is committed to a full season in Scandinavia's leading championship for 2020.
Prince Carl Philip of Sweden will race in the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia in 2020. After an inspirational guest appearance in 2019 the Prince is now committed to a full racing season in Scandinavia's leading championship.
“We are very happy and proud that Prince Carl Philip will compete in the entire 2020 season of Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia”, says Raine Wermelin, Director at Porsche Sweden. “The Prince is an experienced racing driver and a proven winner, who knows our racing series very well.”
Prince Carl Philip completed a full season of Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia in 2011 and made a much appreciated guest appearance in the Swedish motorsport classic “Kanonloppet” at Gelleråsen Arena last year.
“Prince Carl Philip is an amazing ambassador for Swedish motorsports and we are proud to welcome him back to the regular driver-lineup for the 2020 season”, Wermelin concludes.
