The Bitcoin Revolution
If you haven’t heard of Bitcoin, chances are you’ve lived under a rock for the past few years. Back in 2009, someone using the pseudonymous name of Satoshi Nakamotoinvented bitcoin using thirty-one thousand lines of code. As of yet, no one knows who this mysterious person is that created the cryptocurrency that has changed our entire banking structure. If you haven’t joined the Bitcoin…

Extending Our Stay In St Augustine
Extending Our Stay In St Augustine
Bridge of Lions
Hurricane Matthew had wrecked havoc on St Augustine, causing million of dollars in damage. The Municipal Marina also suffered over a million dollars worth of damage. Yet, they were still able to provide services to local mariners.
We really enjoy the city and community here, so we decided to stay a little longer. While no marinas in the area currently have monthly availability…

Aftermath of Hurricane Matthew
Aftermath of Hurricane Matthew
St Augustine
We left Jacksonville and headed back to St Augustine. Just a few days earlier, the east coast had been pounded by Hurricane Matthew. We were thankful we chose to ride out the storm in Jacksonville. However, many people here were not as lucky as we were in the aftermath.
St Augustine took one of the hardest hits in the surrounding area. The city had ordered a mandatory evacuations…

Hurricane Matthew
Castillo de San Marcos
We pulled anchor and motored out of the Matanzas Bay. We had a perfect river view of the St Augustine Fort, as we headed to a safer anchorage to ride out Hurricane Matthew.
The winds were too strong to try going into the ocean today. We passed the inlet making our way up Tolomato River toward Jacksonville.
**Ironically, we were leaving the oldest city in our nation,…

Hello, St Augustine
Bridge of Lions in St Augustine
Hurricane Matthew is now a category 5 with 160 mph winds. We have 4-5 days to be in a safe anchorage before it gets here. We closely watch the weather in hopes it takes an easterly turn out into the ocean.
We still had a few days in St Augustinebefore Hurricane Matthews path could be determined. There are so many ships, old buildings and brick roads to explore…

Back to the East Coast
Back to the East Coast
St Lucie River
We had to make our way through several bridges in the St Lucie River to get back into the Florida Intracoastal Waterway (ICW). The ICW is the door to get us back into the Atlantic Ocean, when possible.
Once we were in the Indian River, we were headed north to our next destination, St Augustine.
**We had stopped in St Augustine briefly last year, without spending much time…

Finishing The Waterway Crossing
Finishing The Waterway Crossing
Old Railroad Bridge
We motored eastward through the narrow St Lucie canal, eager to make our way through the remaining Okeechobee Waterway. Once we passed through the last lock, we would be in the St Lucie River which would carry us into the east coast ICW (Intracoastal Waterway).
**We hadn’t been back in the ICW since last December. We were excited to navigate it going northbound and ocean…

The Caloosahatchee River
LaBelle Bridge
We spent a peaceful night anchored near the cancel entrance. Despite the fact that we could hear the constant hum of the nearby power plant throughout the night, we still managed to get s peaceful night of sleep.
SInce we had only a little over 20 miles to motor today, we weren’t in a hurry to leave before we had coffee and breakfast with a few hours to lounge around.

To the Okeechobee Waterway
To the Okeechobee Waterway
We left Marco Island heading north when we ran into a rain storm. We had made it to Naples so we found a good anchorage to wait it out.
We were eager to make our way toward the Okeechobee Waterway so we entertained ourselves with movies for a few days. Once the sun came back out we continued north toward Ft Myers, to have a good starting point.

We spent our last night anchored near…

Sailing Up The Gulf Coast
Sailing Up The Gulf Coast
Seven Mile Bridge
We pulled anchor and motored out of Boot Key Harbor to get started on our way up the Gulf Of Mexico. We were excited to leave the Keys on our new journey.
We only had a few miles to make our way to the Seven Mile Bridge inlet. We had light winds and motor sailed until we could cross through.
Once we made it through the bridges, (both the new and old Seven Mile Bridge)  we set…

Goodbye Key West
Mac’s Pickup Truck
After spending several weeks preparing, it was time to leave Key West. We enjoyed being the tourists as well as staying long enough to feel like locals. As much as we loved the Southernmost Point of the United States, it was time to pull anchor.  Oh, how I will miss Cuban Coffee Queen though!
