i feel like the rq community has a terrible problem equating transx/trans- to always meaning β€œdoing some sort of transition”. idk. i find it weird and a bit frustrating. i’m not transgender because i transitioned (socially or psychically), i transitioned because i’m transgender. but even if i didn’t i’d still be just as transgender.

Tbh, banners like this mildly annoy me:
Tumblr media
Like oh, nooooo, you don't want the dirty perverts so much as liking or reblogging your posts with zero commentary because they'll contaminate it with their predatory fetishes between fully consenting adults that they're literally not involving you in in any way simply by existing as kinksters and liking/reblogging your posts.
Like "please don't tag as ddlg/abdl" or "please keep comments/tags sfw" I can understand but this is literally just more of the puritan mindset that having a kink means any interaction with sfw content whatsoever is corrupting it somehow. Like sorry, people are still gonna find it sexy. You can't control that lol. People won't interact in any material way with it that is visible to you... and will still get aroused by your content. Possibly even get off to it. What now?
Like I still respect it, ofc. Not just because I follow DNIs when I see them, but because even with my mostly sfw account I don't want to be around anti-kink people at ALL. Like ew, no thanks.
Maybe also though it bothers me because these are the same kinds of people that call ddlg and abdl and stuff equivalent to the horrific trauma I endured as an infant? I truly despise those people (at least the ones that aren't victims themselves, which is most of them by their own admission. The ones who are victims, I have sympathy for at least). But like... this is literally a form of trauma recovery for many victims too, and non-victims are uwu uncomfy so they claim it's the same as what was done to us... despicable behavior.
And while I say I can understand "do not tag as kink"... I also think that's ridiculous? Like I can respect it and disagree with it. Not wanting unsolicited nsfw comments? Sure. Someone finding something kinky that you didn't intend that way, and having to deal with that discomfort? If that bothers you, you better never wear high heels, bare feet, fishnets, crop tops, chokers, have wet hair in public, visibly need to use the restroom or fart or burp in public, or carry plushes, drive a car, etc etc etc ad infinitum. There are kinks for EVERYTHING, including everything that's not innately sexual. Tbh I think people should get. over. it.
But like I said, I still can respect not wanting it tagged as such even if I think that's silly. Maybe you just don't wanna know. That's whatever. It's at least semi-reasonable.
The other thing is "kink, ddlg, ..."
DDLG is kink. Separating it out just makes it entirely clear that you have a problem with "problematic" kinks on some imaginary basis that they do harm to a group of people that is literally completely uninvolved in said kink. Repeat after me: consenting adults participating in kink are not sexual predators.
Anyway, you know, curate your experiences, I'm not saying that saying DNI isn't still valid or that people shouldn't still respect that. It is valid and people should respect that. I'm just also allowed to think doing so in the first place is bullshit, and call people out for the reasoning BEHIND putting it up.
Sure, maybe it's just a personal squick or trigger. Maybe you're actually pro-those-kinks but want nothing to do with them for personal reasons. But in my experience, this comes from the type of people who will range from conflating fully consensual kink with the type of horrible assault that caused me deep and lifelong trauma; to the type of people who will actively harass survivors who cope using these kinks and innocent non-survivor kinksters enjoying it alongside them, alike.
Anti-kink people are in fact actually harmful, and while this DNI isn't itself harmful, the reason it annoys me is because it's a decent probability that the person behind it? Isn't safe for survivors and kinksters alike. And we're only going to fix that by challenging puritan anti-kink attitudes like this, in which so much as a like from an nsfw blog is "inappropriate sexual behavior" (I've even seen people put it on the same level as sexual harassment/assault. for one like) and the mere act of existing as someone who gets aroused by ddlg/abdl/similar adult content makes them a dangerous perverted sexual predator.

Hot take: "this piece of fiction offended me, a marginalised person" doesn't mean "this piece of fiction inherently contributes to dehumanisation of marginalised people". Different people experience oppression and marginalisation differently. What's dehumanising for one person can be validating and empowering for other. Tropes one person find offensive could be a reflection of other person's lived experience.
For example, some gay men feel objectified by BL works but some other gay men actually enjoy BL, identify as fudanshi (male fans of BL) and relate to BL characters.
Some women hate "damsel in distress" trope, other women feel validated looking at a fictional woman whose value is not tied to her achievements, who is important and worth risking lives for her regardless of what she can or can't do.
Some abuse survivors believe any fictional depiction of abuse that's not all pain and suffering is romanticising it. Other abuse survivors such as myself experienced pain and suffering mixed with happy moments, genuine romantic feelings and great sex so "romanticised" abuse in fiction is an actual representation of my experience.
Please remember that your mileage may vary and being a marginalised person is not an excuse to advocate for censorship of all fiction you find offensive.

What will it take to educate the public and shift folks mindsets from judgment and bigotry to acceptance of transids?
Every argument against transids is the same shit we've seen used against trans people, systems, ace people, nonbinary people, neopronoun users, the list goes on. We have heard the same kind of arguments used and repackaged over and over again, so much so that I sometimes can't believe we're still here, fighting the same fights, over and over.
But I think its because society isn't really facing the root of bigotry based on identity. These fights come in waves, and continue to go on, with nested little communities here and there that agree with this label, but not that, condone that label, but only in this way, etc, etc. As identities gain visibility, they must pass the ~leftist community peer review, which means years of awful discourse, harassment, and ultimately, maybe, some kind of assimilation into certain communities list of acceptable identities, acceptable ways of being, acceptable opinions.
I don't want that to happen with the transid community. I don't want it to be a process of picking us apart to see which of us deserves to be accepted, and under what terms and conditions. I don't want to wait for the next wave of visibility to hit another community, and watch another battle go down about whether or not they deserve to exist. Whether we deserve to exist.
I don't think it will, but it could. Transid thought so far seems to get at the actual root of identity politics. It doesn't matter how you see yourself, who you think you are, or are supposed to be, what you want to become, who you are in the inside, no matter how unusual, controversial, or different from the body you inhabit, or what people expect you to be. It doesn't matter how important someone might think that identity is, how frivilous, silly, or weird. There's no peer review that needs to happen with transid identities, no handwringing about whether its proper, whether its allowed, whether its moral to identify a certain way. Because harm is material, it does not happen simply due to identifying in a way someone else doesn't like.
I don't know what it will take to get people to accept us, but I do think we have to keep pushing together, unified.

Sometimes it feels like anti-radqueers forget that we're real people with real lives. Being a radqueer isn't just owning a blog and the thing is... most of the time in real life you'd have no idea.
Theres transabled people who have physically affirmed their identity. They did what they wanted and now live the life they want. If you met a transabled person post-transition you'd have no idea they were transabled (unless they told you).
I have auto-biastophilia and cope by reading self-insert fics with non-con type stuff. I go out in the world and no one knows I'm a dirty filthy proshipper with a para. I could have walked by a very passionate antishipper just this morning while I was out for lunch.
Even if we were all banished off Tumblr we'd still be trans, paras, systems, and still be us.
And with all of us being real people we all have different beliefs and control our own actions. Its weird that antis act like just because there are bad radqueers out there that we're all either the same or somehow contributed to it.
We. Are. Individuals. With. Real. Lives. Too.

tumblr puritans have never spoken to a kinky person and you can tell this because they talk about ~scary~ kinks like a child who thinks their teacher sleeps at school. they have a 1700s "actors cannot be trusted for they engage in obscene behavior" mindset. yes lil buddy people can in fact roleplay situations and then exit that roleplay and have different thoughts and actions πŸ€— adding sex to performance does not actually cast a magic spell that turns you into a monster incapable of morality <3
