Goodbye Burt Bacharach- your music will live forever. I first heard Burt while watching the first Austin Powers movie in 1997. I was only about 8 years old, but when he sang that subdued version of “What The World Needs Now Is Love” atop a double-decker bus cruising on the Las Vegas strip with the international Man of Mystery, it effected me immensely. It gave me a sense of comfort. Throughout my life, I’d hear a song in the wind, or I’d see a film whose score just blew me away and often, I’d find out it was a Burt Bacharach composition. A couple of my favorite songs recently have been “The Sweetest Punch” and “Toledo”. These songs pacify my nerves. Of late, if I feel anxious before a performance, I listen to them on the drive to the gig and I’m soothed. The melodies, the lyrics- they’re lovely. Bacharach was a one of a kind artist.
