i was trying to get some advice on recognizing pressure sores from wheelchair use yesterday and ive been yet again reminded of how hard it is to get effective medical care as a black person. the main early signs of pressure sores discussed are reddening of the skin, or blanching (press your finger on the spot, it turns white, and if it stays white when you release its blanching), neither of which happen with my skin tone. ive found out that general discoloration can be an indicator for darker skin but it isnt as obvious as the reddening on white skin, and that info is much harder to find.
i was able to find some resources on skin conditions on darker skin (this is a database of images of skin conditions and does have example pictures on darker skin), but i still feel that a large portion of doctors out there are completely unaware of how different conditions manifest in people of color, which can lead to a huge gap in care. did you know pulse oximeters are often very inaccurate on dark skin? what are we supposed to do when the basics of medical care dont include us? poc (especially black people) either get the wrong kind of care or just don't get any at all. people genuinely die from this sort of thing. what are we supposed to do?

The bullet hell minigame style battle window in undertale and deltarune occupies a very similar narrative role to the songs in a musical film and would translate very elegantly to such, does anyone understand what I mean

I think it is really indicative of what our society considers virtuous that 'you have been fighting for so long, why don't you put down your sword and rest' is so often used in fiction by the villain as a temptation against the hero.
Why is "let yourself rest" considered to be the devil talking?

🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺
On the 6-9nth of June there will be European Elections. The turnover rate can improve with a collective effort, so let's make it easier to vote.
What can you do already?
Check your county's requirements.
It should be the same as your regular elections.
Is registration needed? If so, register.
Is registration automatic? Check that you are registered in the census.
Double check the date and place. The dates will go from the 6th to the 9th but in your country it will be only one date, not all of them.
Planning!
What will you be doing that day? How can you fit the voting in your schedule? Check the times and consider going early if you want to have the rest of your day free.
Can you move an activity you had scheduled for that day to the previous or the next day? Plan ahead. Take into account the time to go and a possible queue.
ID! Make sure your ID is up to date and valid. Carry it with you. The item, because a picture of it is not a valid ID.
Spread awareness.
Can you nudge someone to vote? To go with you? Can you pair it with something else to do after, like grabbing a coffe? Make it interesting instead of a chore.
Can you help others? Is there someone who might need help to register or to vote? Is there someone who you can accompany that day?

A crowdfunding appeal has been launched to help a 29-year-old Black trans woman who lost both her legs after allegedly being thrown onto NYC subway tracks by her boyfriend. A statement from the New York City District Attorney confirms that the victim and her boyfriend were at the Fulton St. station in Brooklyn when the man is said to have seen the oncoming downtown train coming and “thrown” his girlfriend towards the tracks. “The victim was rushed to the hospital, where both of her legs had to be amputated. She also suffered from fractures to her ribs and a blood clot in her lungs,” the statement continues. When the police arrived, they found the woman under the train, reports Into. The woman has since taken part in an interview with trans activist Hope Giselle, and explains that she was on her way to a gender-affirming appointment when she alleges that she and her boyfriend got into an argument and he “threw” her onto the tracks.

I got a laptop with Windows 11 for an IT course so I can get certified, and doing the first time device set-up for it made me want to commit unspeakable violence
Windows 11 should not exist, no one should use it for any reason, it puts ads in the file explorer and has made it so file searches are also web searches and this cannot be turned off except through registry editing. Whoever is responsible for those decisions should be killed, full stop.
Switch to linux, it's free and it's good.
