if those leaks about ice adolescence are true and the movie really made it all the way to post-production before being completely scrapped then i hope someone sends the entire movie in its post-production state to the lost media wiki, i hope it becomes verifiable public knowledge that mappa cancelled a movie that was damn near finished and in the final stages of editing, and i hope the fact that they let people put that much work into it for no reason when they're already known to be an awful studio to work with and then strung fans along for years about it becomes a controversy that they can never escape from. i hate this so much.

ofc i'm heartbroken about the yoi movie but it's also kinda fucking hilarious to me rn bc do you guys think duolingo on ice was the final straw that finally pressured mappa execs into issuing a statement like. a literal owl mascot on skates did what no one else could before in these past 8 years

the way my partner talks about my ocd is so hilariously on point. for context, i experience a lot of verbal compulsions (feeling like i Have to Say a Certain Thing to magically fix another) and he just told me. "most of the time it's easy to spot a compulsion cause literally nobody asked"

The crazy thing about mappa fumble is they could have released like, a music video every two years of characters skating and then some merch and the fanbase would take it. Remember Yuuris welcome to the jungle video? Image they released like just that and some Yuuris merch. Every few years. They had a golden fucking goose and let it rot in their basement. I'm not saying milk the fandom but Studios kill to have the dedicated fanbase that YOI has and mappa squandered it. I hope the keep fucking up and sell the IP to someone who'll actually DO SOMETHING. Shit dude imagine a manga? Like just a straight up manga? So much cheaper to produce than an anime and it'd do fucking numbers.

I'm pretty sure someone else said it but you really did have to be there when Yuri on Ice aired in 2016. Tumblr was going nuts for this show. I'm pretty sure we broke Tumblr and Crunchyroll from the sheer force of fans trying to see and talk about the finale.

Not to mention that it was 2016, and canon queer characters were incredibly few and far between. It was a recipe for a massive fandom.

(Yeah, there were people who insisted up and down that Yuri and Victor never canonically kissed on the ice because they didn't make on screen lip contact, which was incredibly stupid logic. There was definite homophobia going on regarding if it was Canon Queer or queerbaiting/'fujoshi bait'. But it was so important for people who, perhaps, never thought they'd get anything close to canon queer characters, or at least not in a show like Yuri on Ice.)

Anyway, RIP Ice Adolescence. We'll always hold this series in our hearts.

Yuri on ice truly was a little miracle I don’t think we’ll see replicated again. An original 12 episode anime about men’s figure skating created and directed by two women..mappa took a chance and it paid off tremendously. You can’t recreate the amount of love and dedication people have for the show

Not to beat a dead horse but nothing will compare to watching Yuri on ice while it was airing, you had to be there to understand the sheer joy and excitement and anticipation. Every time we thought they couldn’t do more they did More. It really and truly is so special and important to both it’s creators and fans and it’s treatment is a travesty

Yuri on Ice was such a life changing anime, especially to have experienced in real time waiting for those episodes to drop every week. It was an open acknowledgment and love letter to queerness, to valuing and creating art, to loving yourself and loving those around you and it’s no surprise that it had such a large impact on those who watched it. Not to mention how stunning it was to be presented with an open letter to queer love during a time where same sex marriage and gender equality was still a very hot and controversial topic. It’s, in its own way, nestled itself into history.

It may not be in the way we all expected or hoped, but see you next level.
