Chair Design Was Created By Kartell And Philippe Starck – This year, with the help of one of the world’s best interior designers, they gave a step into the future of the interior design industry with their latest furniture design. This innovative product was presented to the public during Milan Design Week, at Salone Del Mobile. The presentation took place at Kartell’s booth and lasted around 30 minutes where Philippe Starck accompanied by Claudio Lutti presented this special dining chair while also explaining the concept behind it. The renowned furniture brand has researched industrial processes that could transform the designing process of a single product in order to be reproduced on a large scale using increasingly sophisticated molds. 2019 will always be remembered as one of the biggest moments of Kartell’s incredible history because this is the year where the incredible furniture brand has presented for the first time ever, the first chair design built with an Artificial Intelligence process also known as A.I. Chair Design.
In its 70 years of history, Kartell has interacted with mechanics in the implementation of industrial processes aimed at transforming a design into a product that can be reproduced on a large scale using increasingly sophisticated molds. This year the famous furniture brand in collaboration with the renowned designer and a leading producer of 3D engineering and entertainment software presented the first chair design in the world built with artificial intelligence!
“This is a research collaboration at the pinnacle of the industrial design world, resulting in one of the most creative outcomes we’ve ever tried to achieve with generative design”, said Mark David, senior director of design futures at AutoDesk. The chair designed by Philippe Starck represents one of the biggest turning points in the interior design industry!

A.I. is a contemporary dining chair developed through an algorithm that respects the original brief created by the renowned French designer and Artificial Intelligence by AutoDesk. From the first idea all the way down to the final product, the team took 2 years to develop this project which mission is to surpass the human mind by speeding up the design process of an item.
“When Philippe gave me his idea and the results of his work done in collaboration with Autodesk, I immediately accepted the challenge of starting an industrial production on a project that for the first time was not born of our direct relationship or the dialectic between me and him in these thirty years of collaboration”, explained Claudio Luti, President of Kartell at the AI formal presentation. The innovative dining chair features a structural strength and solidity requirements to ensure certification and respect the signature simple and clean style of Kartell.
“A.I. it is the first chair designed outside our brain, out of our habits and how we are used to thinking. And thus, a new world opens up to us. Unlimited.” (Philippe Starck). The A.I. Chair Design represents only the successful partnership between Kartell, Philippe Starck and American firm Autodesk, but also the future of the product design industry with the concept of “Natural Intelligence”, which according to Strack is the combination of artificial intelligence with human intelligence.

The New York-based designer, Sasha Bikoff, brought and edgy interior design project to the incredible AD apartment that was inspired by the movie Uptown Girls, featuring Brittany Murphy as Molly Gunn, and its unique bohemian and wild style! Discover more about the glamorous design in here!
This stunning interior design project was the star of the AD Design Show 2019! The interior designer considers that the actual design style is quite eclectic because it features a lot of creating combinations, so in the AD Apartment project she wanted to reflect this specific style!
Bikoff played with lots of vibrant colors, unique textures and patterns to create the stunning AD Apartment project. This stunning set was the place where you could meet the incredible Architectural Digest Editors!
When asked about the client for that stunning design project the interior designer described her as “traveled girl from the Upper East Side, that loves vintage and comes from this classically trained place”. “Nothing here is monochromatic,” she explained to the Architectural Digest team.

That eclectic mix started with the kitchen, which she clad in cabinets by ADDS exhibitor Reform, a Danish company that makes stylish fronts for basic cabinetry.
To bring that same eclecticism to the furnishings, Bikoff mixed sleek modern forms from Italian brand Calligaris with a Charlotte Perriand–esque bookcase fabricated by Reform, and some of her own furniture designs.

British craftsmanship is considered one of the ancient European treasures and is the base for some of the most incredible masterpieces created by modern master artisans and product designers. Cleft Chair by Max Lamb
Born in 1980, the British designer is known for using highly uncommon approaches to natural materials, including pouring pewter onto the sand, and volcanic rock. Max attended Northumbria University, receiving a degree in Three Dimensional Design and in 2006 he achieved his master’s degree in design products from the Royal College of Art. A year later the product designer and master artisan started teaching Industrial Design at Ecole Cantonale d’Art de Lausanne in Switzerland, and (later) at the Royal College of Art.
He combines traditional and ancient craftsmanship techniques with digital design and practices energetic long-lasting methods of production, as we can see in the Cleft Chair design. This design is a reinterpretation of his Urushi Stool (092) and adopts the same technique of cleaving a freshly cut log in its ‘green’ state using a traditional froe (forged by Gränsfors Bruk in Sweden). The froe splits the wood along the grain so the natural structure of the wood is both visible and tangible. This rustic structure is covered in urushi lacquer, or in this case 23.5-carat gold leaf and was produced by Gallery Fumi.

His work is celebrated and retailed across the globe. His modern masterpieces are made with some original and contemporary methods that reinterpret the classic styles.
Made from powdered coated spun steel and blown from opaque glass, the Op Art graphic patterns are the inspiration for this modern pendant light. The asymmetry of the black stripes are in contrast to the classic spherical shape of the globe. When viewed from all sides, Optical’s linear pattern changes at every angle.

Eleanor is one of the best European master artisans. the London-based artist dedicated to wood sculpture who grew up in a rural area of Wales immersed in nature. Passionate about wood and its history and origin, she has spent many years perfecting form and experimenting with how the properties of wood can be used to express the rhythm of time and our relationship with the earth.
The London-based artist creates vessels from horse chestnut burr, hand turned, sandblasted and bleached. This piece is from her “Echoes of Amphora Series” that she designed in 2018. Most of her wood sculptures are integrates numerous prestigious collections worldwide.
Orchid Mirror by Laura Hart
The Suffolk glass artist brings to life fine glass sculptures and functional glass tableware from her studio in rural Cavendish. She is one of the best master artisans in Europe and is specialized in kiln formed glass orchids, glass wildflowers and meticulously detailed fused and cast glass butterflies. Laura’s work brings several traditional glass making techniques together with the addition of sterling silver for anatomical detail. She focuses on fused glass production uniting 21st-century 3D design applications with ancient glassmaking techniques.
One of her famous designs is the beautiful “Orchid Mirror” that was created with three Appaloosa phalaenopsis orchids set on a delicate metallic stem circling this large round mirror. A beautiful looking glass by day; an ambient lighting piece by night as subtly discreet backlighting behind the mirror reveals every gossamer detail of the orchid sculptures. The “Orchid Mirror” was featured in the Financial Times, ‘How to Spend it Magazine’.

The organization of Salone del Mobile has chosen the relationship between Da Vinci, Milan and Water for the theme of one of the exhibitions! The first exhibition is therefore called “AQUA”, and celebrates the originality and visionary mind of Da Vinci’s studies and work and, of course, it’s connected to one of his greatest works in the region of Milan: The Naviglio Grande!
Milan was one of Da Vinci’s favorite City, only next to Florence. He made this city his home for many years and he helped shape the cultural, architectural and artistic vision of this incredible and historical town! Till this day, precious traces of Leonardo da Vinci – architect, engineer, inventor, scientist, artist – are still scattered around the city, and today you can still walk through some of the places that Da Vinci also visited 500 years ago.
He lived 18 Years in the City and, during this time, he painted some of his most recognized and accomplished works of art, namely the iconic painting of “Last Supper” and helped develop the Naviglio Grande that, till this day, remains as the top water canal of the Lombardia Region. Nex to the iconic “Mona Lisa” painting, that’s currently on exhibition at the Louvre Museum in Paris, the “Last Supper” it’s one of the main paintings of Da Vinci’s legacy that is exhibited in Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie.
Another relic of Leonardo Da Vinci that’s still in exhibition in Milan is the Atlantic Code, which is considered the corpus of Leonardo’s autograph manuscripts and is so called because of the size of its sheets, used at that time for the geographical atlases. This relic includes a series of sketches, preparatory drawings for paintings, mathematical calculations, philosophical meditations and even recipes. It’s a real journey through time and the ingenious mind of Leonardo da Vinci that’s currently in exhibition at the Ambrosiana Art Gallery.
