PRO TIP
One thing I see over and over again which I cannot stand is the whole “DM VS. PC” thing. It should not exist. Your DM is there to have fun too, and puts a significantly larger amount of prep work into the game than you do, so remember that when you’re playing.
I get that it’s kinda funny to visualize your DM dumbstruck that you wasted his ultimate boss’ final form in four rounds, but (and this is for the DM’s out there) here’s how to avoid that: cheat! No, don’t go crazy and change game mechanics or any of that shit. Just improvise. They wasted your final form? Guess they didn’t see the real badass hiding in the shadow, or the convenient medallion of true resurrection hanging on his neck! Or what’s that? Your boss now has some pretty amazing quick healing abilities or suddenly (and secretly) gained another 50HP to last a few more rounds? Sounds good to me!
Know your players and give them an interesting fight. If it’s supposed to be epic and challenging, MAKE it epic and challenging! One on one boss fights are never a good idea. Use interesting spells and terrain to sweeten the deal. Random minions that bust down the door to give some added stress - things that interrupt the “your turn, my turn” humdrum of normal combat. You’re playing in a world of literally limitless possibilities, so whatever NEEDS to happen to maintain the balance, can happen! Just remember to be considerate to all the players (including the DM, lest you forget they are playing a game too!) when making those choices.
My point is, there should never be a time in the game where the DM is all huffy over you killing something, or should be overly celebrating when things are going roughly for the PCs. There’s a balance there, and the PCs and DM should always be working to hold that balance so EVERYONE keeps having fun, the DM keeps WANTING to DM and the story unfolds!
