"Spying, are we Jodie? That's not very gentlemanly," Mark says, tapping Jodie on the nose.
"But tell you what, I'm feeling generous."
He turns and holds up all of her hands, turning them to show they're open and empty. "Nothing up my sleeve~" he reaches behind Jodie's ear, and when she pulls her hand back it's holding a ring.
"If you can get one of your little friends here to take you back to your realm, as long as you're on the same plane you can check in on anyone you choose. This only has one charge on it, though, so you'd better choose carefully."
Mark tosses the ring at Jodie and saunters out of the room, one of his hands waving behind her.
Mark lounges on the bed in Jodie's room, a few books open in front of him, and batting a ball of yarn around boredly. She rolls onto his stomach, kicking her feet in the air with a yawn.
"It's just like him to miss his cue," he says to herself, turning the page in one of the books. "Hey narrators, you wouldn't mind, would you?"

The stretchy, glittery fabric manages to pull Mark back, and he looks over his shoulder at Jodie. Jodie might notice that this Mark is a good foot or so taller than the Other Mark currently is.
"What is it? Changed your mind so soon?"

"So you'd rather just disappear without a trace?" Mark asks, seeming to be somewhat amused. He takes her hands back and turns to walk away, tail swaying behind him. "In that case~ Enjoy the castle life! It seems quite comfy here. I'll pop back in to check on you sometime, mmkay?"

Mark's laughters from each mouth echo off one another.
"Why don't you come see for yourself?" He invites, standing up and offering her hands to Jodie. "I'm sure they would all love~ to see you again."

Mark purses his lips at Jodie quizzically.
"No, not particularly. It itched something awful, I'd say, like a snake shedding old skin." He laughs at the notion. "Ceremony isn't an attack spell, silly, it can't hurt anyone."

"Right as rain, my sweet silver cloud," Mark giggles, reaching up to curl a lock of Jodie's hair around his finger. "My delightful little brother Scam conned your friends into rounding me up to cast Ceremony on me. I wasn't too fond of the idea at first, but I took my medicine and now I'm all better~"
She pouts slightly, looking back into Jodie's eyes. "You did recognize me, after all. For a second there I thought you'd keep talking to me like I was your other Mark."

Mark rises off the bed, lithely moving over to the desk.
"Jodie~" he coos, sliding into Jodie's lap and leaning close. "I miss you every second you're gone." But there's a glint in Mark's eye that she doesn't normally possess and an inflection to his voice that doesn't quite match the Mark Jodie's gotten used to. In fact, it may remind him of someone he hasn't seen for a while.
Mark's hand cups Jodie's jaw tenderly, thumb running over his chin. "Oh darling~ I know you've been keeping yourself busy but am I really that replaceable?"

"Oh, nothing. I just wanted to stop in, see how you're doing~ What have you been up to?" Mark rolls onto his side to look at Jodie, propping her chin up with one fist while another hand plays with his hair. "I missed you, you know~"

Mark lifts his head, a few of her eyes still reading. He smiles at Jodie, satisfied to see that this is, in fact, her Jodie.
"Thank you~" he says to the narrators, one eye winking at the fourth wall before turning back to focus on Jodie's adorable confusion. "What? Can't a gal stop in just to say hi?"

Mark sighs and puts his hands on her hips.
"That sure is boring," he says, turning around to head home. "Let's see what else is on~"

"It was a good idea to get a vantage point," whispers Annette from the branch beside Jodie's. Sharp blue eyes look determinedly out from over their scarf. "You said the movement came from over there, right?" An arrow is already notched in Annette's bow. "I'll follow your lead."
Jodie would know, of course, that Annette Smith would have his back. He hadn't been sure about Annette when they first met. Annette seemed to be a perfectly well-adjusted individual who was simply adventuring for the hell of it. Too normal to be trustworthy. But Jodie and Annette shared drinks at the campfire one night after Sen had fallen asleep. Annette opened up to Jodie, and Jodie, surprising himself, shared a little in kind. It was only a few months that they knew each other, but Jodie grew to respect Annette. He doesn't trust Annette completely; he isn't ready to trust anyone like that, but he trusts Annette more than anyone else.

"I like to have fun with things," Mark replies nonchalantly, bending down slightly toward Jodie. "And if it were my universe's Jodie, then he would have remembered what happened the last time he met Annette Smith. It was just a little test~ That you failed. But not to worry. Though not the same Jodie, I have still found a Jodie." Those purple eyes begin to pulse as magic starts to wash over Jodie again, tugging gently at his mind, coaxing him into agreeability.
"What do you say, Jodie? Why don't you stay here? With just a shave and a haircut, two bits, you'd fit right in. In this universe, you don't have any criminal history. You came back a hero from the war to your loving wife Mercedes and two beautiful boys Lark and Sparrow. They're waiting for you to come home right now." Mark points at one of the doors, smiling broadly, eyes spiraling like kaleidoscopes. "Even if you didn't go back to your family, there's still a world of possibility for you on Earth or Faerun. Besides, it's not like you have anything keeping you here or taking you anywhere else. After you ditch the kid, it'll be back to your usual running yourself into the ground, trying to survive routine. Right?" He spreads his arms invitingly.
"Say yes, Jodie. Stay."

"Oh, that's quite alright," the entity says, smiling from every mouth. He doesn't seem offended or intimidated, and doesn't make any moves toward or away from Jodie. "He went AWOL on us a while ago, doing... Well, I assume whatever it is you're doing here but with a lot less bloodshed. I haven't been particularly inclined to look for him since I've had my hands a bit full over here, but a stray bit of Narration caught my eye recently. I followed the lead, watched you and the kid for a while, and then decided to try talking to you in person today before you disappeared off to some other universe."
She offers a few hands, the gesture for a handshake.
"By the way, I'm Mark Likely."

What stands behind Jodie is no longer Annette, but an extra-dimensional creature of uncountable limbs and a coif of hair that could seduce anyone. His eyes, hair and skin vary in shades of purple, and although with his many mouths and eyes it's difficult to understand exactly what her face is doing, but Jodie can tell that the strange entity is looking at him with disappointment.
"You look just like him, you know," he says with a sigh. Her form resolves itself into something semi-humanoid, still maintaining too many arms and eyes and mouths but at least restraining itself to approximately three dimensions. "My Jodie Foster."

Unfortunately for Jodie and Annette, when they get about halfway down the hallway, the hallway disappears. The doors are still there, simply hanging in the purple void they've found themselves in, and if opened they simply float away as if filled with helium. Annette lowers her bow, frowning at Jodie the way someone looks at the plate of food they didn't order.
"So it isn't you, after all."

At first, the interior looks to be a long hallway with various doors. Down the hallway and around the corner, just out of sight, a light appears to be on. As they watch, a humanoid shadow passes in front of the light. If Jodie looks back at Annette, she nods her head, indicating that she's ready.

"You got it," Annette agrees, though as Jodie walks in front of her, his focus on the way ahead of them, Annette stares only at him for a few moments. Blue eyes briefly shine indigo before returning to their sky hue.
They continue to search, and as the five minutes draw to a close Annette shakes her head with a sigh. "I don't think it's any good. You wanna check one last building before we head back?"
