Day 17
Today we had limited free time so we decided to wake up at 8:30, eat breakfast at the hotel again, and roam around Verona. A few minutes from the hotel, you can find the Romeo and Juliette houses. We passed through a plaza with an arena and a lot of shops which we planned to stop at on our way back. The Juliette house was slightly underwhelming. It was crowded with middle school tour groups and there wasn’t much to see but it was still a cool touristy thing to do. We didn’t stay long since we had to be back at the hotel by 12:30. We stopped and did some shopping for Italian clothes and also got lunch. I got a calzone which was fresh and tasted amazing but the woman working behind the counter was very rude to us. When I asked her how much it was, she just reached for my wallet. She took some random money from me and gave me back some random change, with no receipt. It didn’t seem like she spoke much English but I was still taken back that she never said how much it was and instead just took my random amount of money.
We got back to the hotel with 15 minutes before our class meeting. We changed into business causal and went to the meeting room. Since we are group 1 we presented first. Our presentation was on the different food and cuisine, customs, and night life of each country we visited. It was nice to be first and get it out of the way. The rest of the class then presented which took about two hours. While we were on our way back to the hotel, we thought it would be nice to get our two professors flowers as a way to say thank you for putting everything together. We gave them the roses at the end of the class period.
Since today is our last day, the rest of the evening was planned out for us. We had 15 minutes to change again and then we got on a bus with a tour guide from Verona, Margarita, and drove 25 minutes to a Vineyard in the country. We got a tour of the wine cellar where the barrels of wine are and then we got to taste 5 different wines. Throughout the tasting, the owner explained how he made each wine and how each one was different. It was cool to be at the actual place where the wine is made. It was mostly red wine which isn’t my favorite but it wasn’t bad. We tried a Rosé that Erica and I really liked so we bought a bottle, which was only 4.50 Euros.
The class got back on the bus and we drove up the mountain, which was slightly frightening since we were on a giant bus on a small windy road but we made it. The guide took us to this beautiful church and showed us spectacular views of the country valleys. It was nice to be outside of a city for a while. The class walked around the area and took some pictures. We were in a small village looking place. I loved seeing that type of living. Again, we got back on the bus and drop a little farther up the mountain and reached the restaurant where the class would be having dinner. We got to watch one of the owner’s hand make pasta which is something I have never seen before. We all got a large meal including the hand made pasta and Bolognese sauce, risotto, beef, and potatoes. We also got a dessert native to Verona that was similar to ice cream. Overall, it was a great way to end the trip.
The bus ride back the hotel was about half an hour and by the time we got back we were all exhausted. Most of my things were packed up so I helped Erica fit everything into her bags. Tomorrow, our Norwegian Air flight only allows 20 kg, as opposed to the standard 23kg so we are hoping our bags will get through without an extra charge. Having the weight restriction change on the last flight is pretty frustrating and a quite the challenge but it’ll work out. It’s hard to believe that this trip is already over. See you tomorrow Boston!
