Me: mm-hmm [does a frame-by-frame analysis of the “ever been sketched” scene]

As we all know, Izzy believes the love of a pet (animal or human) makes a man weak, and thinks Ed also believes this, even though Ed had forgotten he’d even said it. Well, it just so happens this is a GREAT defensive posture to take if you’re terrified of being rejected by the guy you’re hot for (“I WOULDN’T WANT HIM TO LOVE ME ACTUALLY”). Congrats, you never have to deal with those feelings and fears! Down to the bottom of the sea they go.

But so the “have you ever been sketched” scene. Izzy doesn’t go after after Pete or Fang (the seduced), he goes after Lucius (the seductress). People who should be tough manly man men turn giddy and blushing around Lucius. If people are just running around admitting their feelings now, Izzy can’t keep pretending that his stasis with Ed is FINE, BECAUSE I MEANT TO DO THAT. So he goes after the person with the highest emotional intelligence in the whole crew, gets drawn into a battle of wills, and is hopelessly outmatched. Izzy fears being perceived, and here’s Lucius with all his points slotted into Perception.

Izzy hadn’t gone into that interaction expecting Lucius to win, because he had it in his head that Lucius was soft and weak, a nonthreatening nonentity. When he realizes he’s getting overpowered, and that it’s kinda turning him on, he makes a last effort at intimidation to get Lucius to leave (“go now”). Lucius passes his Perception check and sees that the look on Izzy’s face in that moment is not one of anger but of fear. Instead of backing off, Lucius goes on the offensive and flat out hits on him (“ever been sketched?”). 

It flies by in a heartbeat, but in that split second between the question and the response (“fuck off”), Izzy leans in closer that his usual in-your-face range, not in a threatening fashion but like he is actually going in for a kiss. And honestly? I think if Lucius had kissed him right then, Izzy would have let it happen (ever the sub). But because it’s left up to him to take the initiative, Izzy balks, which gives him time to get the walls back up before he (as he would perceive it) gets fully seduced. Since Lucius won’t leave, Izzy has to turn tail at that point and flee the scene of battle.
