Albatross Soup from Winnie Cheung on Vimeo.
Albatross Soup is a delightfully fluid animation that lyrically complements a chorus of voices attempting to investigate a puzzling suicide: A man gets off a boat. He walks into a restaurant and orders albatross soup. He takes one sip... pulls out a gun, and shoots himself to death. So...why did he kill himself?
"Albatross Soup" is this week's Staff Pick Premiere! Read more about it on the Vimeo Blog: vimeo.com/blog/post/albatross-soup

A crowd moving in one direction.People who flow in a moment. A scene where the difference with other people disappears and looks uniform. There are many different kinds of life there. You can feel invisible energy when you see a large mass of individuals.
I set myself in the streets of Taiwan, and I multilayered a lot of time to create a new timeline that reflects individuals.

I've always made these yearly iPhone videos that were inane compilations of all the things I'd see as I went about my life... so I thought I would make something a bit more meditated, something that could both respect and relax the speed of which I fly by the seat of my pants.

RED WING | LINDSEY ROSS from Bimarian Films on Vimeo.
In an age of speed, convenience and ease, artist Lindsey Ross does things the hard way. Packing her truck with unwieldy vintage cameras and gallons of chemicals, she makes arresting portraits and lovely pictures of iconic Yosemite landmarks using wet collodion photography. The method is from another century (the 1850s to 1890s, to be exact), and the process is painstaking, yielding often-disappointing results. But when the stars align, the result is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. A Less Convenient Path is a profile of an artist who isn’t afraid of a little elbow grease and is intimately familiar with the beauty that’s born of struggle.

Douglas Tompkins: Wild Legacy from Tompkins Conservation on Vimeo.
Douglas Tompkins was a world-renowned adventurer, entrepreneur, and conservationist. The founder of The North Face and cofounder of Esprit, Doug spent the first half of his life building successful, global brands, while simultaneously adventuring around the world, completing first descents of the world’s toughest rivers. In 1968 Doug embarked on a trip to Chile, driving with friends from California to the tip of Patagonia. Documented in the film Mountain of Storms, the trip solidified Doug’s place as a rock climbing legend. In the early 1990s, Doug sold his part of Esprit and turned his entrepreneurial energies to land and wildlife conservation projects in South America, working alongside his wife, Kristine McDivitt Tompkins, the former CEO of Patagonia, Inc. Over the last 25 years, Tompkins-initiated efforts have helped secure 4.75 million acres in new protected areas in Chile and Argentina including five new national parks. Collaborating with several presidential administrations and other partners, the Tompkins Conservation family of nonprofits has helped create six national parks in Chile and Argentina and is working to establish at least five more. A Wild Legacy tells the story of Doug’s incredible life, his lasting impact on the wild landscapes of Patagonia, and Kris and the Tompkins Conservation team’s efforts to continue his audacious mission.
Doug was tragically killed in a kayaking accident on Lago General Carrera, north of Patagonia Park, on December 8th, 2015. Douglas Tompkins: A Wild Legacy was presented to audiences at the Telluride Mountain Film Festival on May 24th, 2016 during the festival’s tribute to Doug.
“If anything can save the world, I’d put my money on beauty.” – Douglas Tompkins
The work goes on at tompkinsconservation.org.
