Issues I Have Faced So Far in Making the Animation
Making the animation old and vintage:
Making an animation look as if it was done a few decades ago is a difficult task, so I watched a few tutorials on youtube. But, yet it was pointed out by the tutors, that the effect I added later on from watching the tutorials was distracting for the viewer. So, After a few failed versions, I had to remove the effect completely, yet I added a soundtrack from an old projector, in order to make it feel as though it is old footage.
2. The Time Duration of the animation:
This was the most problematic issue I faced, during the making of this animation: The Issue was that when I put all the scenes together, the full animation was more than 35 seconds: More than 1 minute to be exact, but, I removed some scenes and sped up some of the scenes, and managed to get the full animation to 31 seconds. After adding the intro and the outro it increased to 37 seconds.
3. Time management:
The average time an animator needs when making a full-minute animation is 2-3 and a half weeks. Since we, students, are still new to this it took a lot longer than that. The deadline was a month away and yet my time management was a bit off. I must do better next time.
4. Minor Issues:
Making the animation smooth; How the transitions should be done; Understanding Premier Pro; Understanding the nature of the movement of certain characters when animating.

References and Explanations for the Animation
The Start and The End
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Start of the animation shows a fire which shows how that fire has an involvement in the start of Winsor's obsession with drawing when he etched a forest fire onto his window after a great wildfire was seen nearby a lake. The end of the animation also shows another presence of fire, which shows the fire that destroyed most of Winsor's work after he died.
2. The Art Style of the Animation
Tumblr media
I'm making the animation similar to the animations that were done by Winsor McCay. As you can see from the animations done by Winsor Some of them are black and white, and don't even have backgrounds.
Since Winsor's work was some of the earliest attempt at animations there weren't many soundtracks in the animations. So, for my animation, I managed to put the sound of an old film projector playing in the background.
3. The Bed and The Flying House References
Tumblr media
The house seen here is the Cleary Business College in Ypsilanti, Winsor went to business school. And as you can see the building in the above image is quite similar to the house in the image below. I decided to have the building in the animations to show the start of Winsor's journey and escape. In the animation as you can see, the house flies away: This is a reference from an animation done by Winsor Mccay, which was called the Flying House.

And the bed seen in the animation is the same bed from one of Winsor's animations. A reference brought back to life through animation. While Winsor drew Comics of this bed, I decided why not a full animation of a bed walking.

4. The Dream Reference
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As you can see at the end of the animation, turns out that the whole animation happened in the dream of Winsor before he woke up. This is a reference from his famous work, Little Nemo in Slumberland when Nemo wakes up every time at the last frame of the comic strip. This also explains that a lot of things that happened during the animations did not make any sense, such as Winsor Holding up a giant pencil, that should've been much heavier and much more difficult to carry around. Not to mention, there were some scenes where objects morphed into other things.

The Colored Version of The Storyboard
This Storyboard differs from the one I've posted in the blog. According to the narrative, the colors will only be shown when Winsor is awake from his dream. It's all black and white while he dreams in the animation.
