Tag a friend who might enjoy this Milky Way image and journey! --- From Kevin about this image: --- PANO http://ift.tt/1LID9AA http://ift.tt/2FCZlyI EXIF: 5 shots, Sony A7s2 with the Sigma 35mm 1.4 lens (Nikon mount) with the novoflex adapter. Not sure what F-stop was since no electronic communication exists between the adapter and the camera but I did stop down so I assume it was around f2.8. Each shot was ISO 6400 for 13 secs. Story: This was from 2016 up at Mt Rainier and I thought I was going to be skunked again at this spot. One month prior I had gone and was totally fogged in and left empty handed. This trip was starting the same way but this time my buddy Steve (Steve Schwindt Photography) and I climbed up high and right when Steve was ready to quit the fog finally cleared and allowed us to capture this. This is from the Sunrise Visitors Center and if you havent been there put it on your list. Thanks for looking. ---- http://ift.tt/2EH8SDE

After enduring many months of dreary, wet weather in southern BC, summer finally arrived in full force and I took full advantage of it by hiking up Empetrum Peak in Garibaldi. The route up Empetrum was still mostly covered in snow, however it was hard-packed and snowshoes weren't necessary. As it was only a few days after the summer solstice, it did not get truly dark until after midnight. The sky remained clear all night, and despite the considerable glow along the southern horizon from the Vancouver city lights, the Milky Way shone brightly. This is a stack of images, taken from just below the summit of Empetrum Peak and stacked using Sequator. I'm looking forward to this year's Milky Way season! --- EXIF: Sony a6000 Samyang 12mm f/2.0 Sky: 65 images stacked with Sequator (f/2.0, ISO 1600, 25 sec) Foreground: f/2.0, ISO 400, 124 sec --- http://ift.tt/2CYZWJ4

I actually wanted to hike up a mountain but there was still plenty of snow, so I decided to stay safe in a lower area. Which actually was a better location than the mountain top I was aiming for when I started. Anyway, spend the night taking photos and got some hours of sleep in my tent. Pretty calm night with no one around, those are the healing nights. Thanks for watching everyone! I was hoping for the Aurora australis to show up, even though I was on the top of the Island, in Farewell Spit. Nothing happened, but the sky was so clear I had to make another 180° shot. I thought I could also try to stand in the middle below the arch of the Milky Way. This is quite a classic shot but I like how it turned out with the airglow at the horizon and the reflection from the low tide water. Low Level Lighting, LLL, used under the Arch, and dim LLL used on the outside of the arch. The tricky part here was to light the underside of the arch without getting hot spots. It turned out to be more difficult than expected. I finally achieved a reasonable amount of light using to small Goal Zero Micro Lanterns with home made warming filters. There is a single light panel lighting the outside with a Ceneriod light panel on low and adjusted to a warm color temperature. The Escalante Grand Staircase National Monument is a terrific dark sky location, recently drastically reduced in size by the government. Tag a friend who might enjoy this Milky Way image and journey! --- From Paul about this image: --- Pano "Empyreal" I shot this at Southern Bays near Christchurch, New Zealand back in April 2017, there had been Aurora displays the few nights before but I was unable to shoot, I thought I'd try my luck and head out even though the KP wasn't very high. I set up the iPano and programmed it to start on the bottom row, during the test shots there wasn't much activity, by the time the iPano robotic panoramic head got to the middle rows the Aurora had really flared up! Very lucky! This enabled me to take a high resolution Aurora shot, before editing and cropping the image was 38310 x 15762px, that's roughly 600 megapixels, after cropping quite a bit this image ended up being 260 megapixels, I decided to go with a 1:2 crop ratio. Stitched in Autopano Giga after exporting developed tiff from Lightroom, I brightened up the foreground a little in PS afterwards. Tag a friend who might enjoy this Milky Way image and journey! --- From Ross about this image: --- PANO/TRACKED/BLEND http://ift.tt/2k5AMBE http://ift.tt/2w4WIAS While the New Year marks a lot of things, for me it mostly just means we’re that much closer to milky way season again! Here is an unreleased shot from the most amazing night under the stars inside Mt Rainier National Park. I’ve been holding on to post it while we’re all missing those warm(ish) nights under the stars! I shot the milky way quite a bit in 2017, but this night was extra special. Airglow and light pollution can often take away or sometimes even ruin a night shot as it will overpower the stars. Not this night! I can’t begin to explain how amazed I was when I looked on my camera LCD screen after a test shot to see beams of light seemingly shooting out of Rainier. As the milky way aligned vertically with the peak, everything was pretty much perfect. I am going to have a hard time ever getting a better night shot of Rainier. I came across this amazing photographer called Michael Shainblum and he helped me out a bunch on how to go about doing these kins of shots. I did my research on locations and found that in the Anza Borrego desert there is a place with many many sculptures of Ricardo Braceda which is a metal sculptor. And one of the ones i loved since i did my research was the T-Rex fighting and decided to go and shoot these bad boys. Sure enough i did the shot and ended up with this one as my 2nd try at shooting the milky way. EXIF Rokinon 14mm 30” F/2.8 ISO 3200. --- http://ift.tt/2DcqGGR

This picture was taken on my first trip to Moab last season in early April. On this night, I photographed the night sky at Dead Horse Point State Park literally until the sun came up. This image was my last image of the night as the sun had begun to make itself visible on the horizon. The Milky Way can be seen fading away into the pre-dawn sky. The light from the soon to rise sun helped illuminate the canyons for my foreground. This image was processed using Adobe Camera Raw and Photoshop. As always, thank you for having a look. In fact, I think this might be only the second one I've ever done. Back in February of 2017 I went on a week long road trip that carried us through Rye Colorado, the site of Bishops Castle (pictured here). We stuck around for some night sky images but the core of the Milky Way was (of course) on vacation in the southern hemisphere. Still I kept trying to imagine that spot with the core rising above it and the light spots of snow on the ground. I used a image from Big Bend for the Milky Way. Aside from being 'out of season' this also presents the entire thing in a mirrored perspective. Tag a friend who might enjoy this Milky Way image and journey! --- From Matt about this image: --- COMPOSITE --- http://ift.tt/2Eiu0jo Fb.com/mattsmith1985 --- Going out to Big Bend this past summer was an awe-inspiring experience which I hope to revisit again this year, just more prepared. There were many shots to get but the time crunch and sheer scale of the park limited staying in one spot too long with fear of missing out. Also, the weather didn't get the memo that we were coming and sucked really bad. --- This was only supposed to be a 2 image composite, but I threw in the small path from another spot in the park to even out the foreground. The main foreground was one of the first images I took with Mike Rice when we first got in the park in the afternoon. I had only really seen mountains one other time in my life and not from very close. It was just a quick shot with an uninteresting sky, but it was still mountains, and you don't see those in south Texas. ---- The path was from a very small trail on the western side of the park called the Sam Nail Ranch trail. There were some cool features, but again, for the time of day, nothing of note. But one of the shots had a path that trailed off and when added to the open foreground, I thought provided balance to the image as well as a focal point for the foreground. The sky is the same used in a regular panorama that I have already posted using the Sigma 50mm. The frame was then cropped to create a focal point all across the image. --- Ground Canon 6D / Sigma 50mm @ f/8 / 1/160" / ISO100 Path Canon 6D / Rokinon 24mm @ f/11 / 1/80" / ISO100 SKY 20 frame panorama Canon 6D / Sigma 50mm @ f1.4 / 10" / ISO 5000 --- Cropped to fit together in Photoshop/ACR --- http://ift.tt/2FahSlK
