THE PERSON AND WORK OF CHRIST
Minister Carmelo Angel
Many topics and questions surround the idea about the Humanity of Christ. Is He God or Man? Is He half God, half man? Does He the desires of the flesh? If He is a man, He must go through physical pain but if He’s part God why would He make himself go through the agony. In simplest form and not go into deep analogy, God brought himself in our world for one purpose and that was for our sins and the atonement.
The only way for the people to understand the power of God, the faith, the love and commitment to our father was to have another human being give the right example but also live the life God wanted us to be in. That is the reason why He came down to earth, to be a part of the human race. To show our brothers and sisters, even as flesh and blood, we all good through temptation, pain, heart ache, suffering, we can still end up living our lives and faith to God. It also gave an opportunity to us, the world, to redeem ourselves and give our lives to God. To understand God is a loving God and loves us so much He is willing to bring His only son to come back to this world to heal us from our sins.
How can we compare Jesus as a human? As a human being, we are born through the womb of our mothers, just like Jesus was born through Mary. In Galatians 4:4, “But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth his son, born of a woman, born under the law.”# He was raised by his parents and grown to have the resemblance as and adult and looked like any other Jew in that day. Just like us, he had had family. He had a mother, father, brothers and sisters.
There was no telling difference by the way He looks to confuse anyone if He was human or God. People could not come up to Him and say “There is God!” The only time you can feel the presence of God, was to be around with His presence. The Holy Spirit in Him gave the feeling of power of God. People would want to touch anything He was wearing or touched to feel the left over presence. In John 14:36, “and begged Him that they might only touch the hem of his garment. And as many touched it were made perfectly well.”# He didn’t need to look different to stand out or show a Godly look to him.
One experience Jesus did go through that compares to ordinary man was temptation. Just like human beings, we all go through hardship of temptation, which could be the fall to so many Christians and have been the fall for a long time. The first temptation came in the beginning in Genesis 3:6, “so when the woman saw the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes and tree desirable to make one wise…”# Adam and Eve as earthly flesh was also tempted from lies and deception. Jesus came about the same temptation when he fast forty days and forty nights in Mathew 4:1, “Then Jesus was led up by the spirit unto the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.”# He experienced like a normal human being who would be fasting for so long, He was tired and hungry. The enemy saw the weakness potential in Jesus and try to use that against Him but Jesus filled with the Holy Spirit understood His purpose and was not influence by any means of the gifts the devil was offering Him. He was with out sin and with every temptation, He was victorious.
What was his purpose to be a part of our world? Why couldn’t He just come as an angel instead as human being. The key point “Sacrifice”. The lord knew what His purpose was and what lies in his destiny. To have himself sacrificed himself and go through the pain as human being was the only way for us to understand how much the love was there for all of us. The death of Christ and resurrection was the set up for us sinners in the ground of redemption. We believe that men are regenerated, redeemed, reconciled to God, justified, forgiven, adopted, not by the Doctrine of  the Atonement but by the Atonement itself by the sacrificial and substitution of our Lord Jesus Christ.#  With out the sacrifice and resurrection, there wouldn’t be redemption. Jesus life wouldn’t have any meaning but just to be a healer to the people. Salvation was the main purpose for his atonement. The design was to make all men savable. A new way for all sins of the past to be forgiven and start in a new path towards God. In Corinthians 15:3-4 states, “how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that He rose again on the third day according to the scriptures.”#
For us to completely understand the person and works of Christ, we need to be able let the Holy Spirit and speak to our hearts about the truth about Jesus. What He did for us? What He sacrificed? He wasn’t an ordinary man who used the cross for just for dramatic sign for sacrifice. That in our lives we will need to be redeemed. We are human. Jesus experienced that life for us, showed with compassion and understood the means to be a human being. With no excuse and any lack of hope for the future, Jesus clears that up with his death and resurrection. With Him participating as human being in our world, healing the sick and sacrificing his life should give us the new meaning hope. We are here in this world for one purpose and that’s to serve Him but also God knows evil ways that hide around path. Sin will follow and tempt us but Gods true love will redeem us. Jesus was put here for us and Jesus will live in our hearts as our brother, Father and God.

       Counseling Children As A Christian
       by Minister Carmelo Angel
When counseling adults, Christian counselors will have there one on one session and build the repertoire with counselees. Its very different when counseling children. At times the Christian counselor will be involved with the children directly, but more the emphasis will be on parental guidance.# Counselors will need the help from parents and to help the guidance with the children. Parental guidance play key factor and partnership with the counselors. Children will look up to the parents for support and guidance through when dealing with counseling sessions. They already established a trust bond with the parent and when a child counselee works with a unknown counselor or mentor, it takes time to build the repertoire between the child and counselor. Counselors need to establish that trust with the children and with the parents support of counseling it creates a more of open atmosphere between the counselor and counselee.
There are different factors go in the situation to find the problems with the counselees. One topic to take consideration when trying to find results from the counselee is to look at child-rearing. How, when, and where children are raised can be can an impact in development in child-rearing growth. The environment and culture can play a factor and can be also be used as an excuse in a behavior of children. So when educating, disciplining children, parents may use “time has changed since we were young” phrase but no matter what as Christians parents, getting biblical guidelines will never change.
In going back to parental guidance, parents have to recognize that they play a big key factor in the session between the counselor and counselee. What Counselors expect in child-rearing from parents to children is that parents need to for fill their part in teaching, guiding and raising the children. The same goes with children interacting with the parents and how they treat their parents during child-rearing. Counselors will try to fill in the missing holes and show parents what needs to be adjusted between child-rearing.
From what we expect from parents can be taken from Ephesians 6:4, “An you fathers do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the lord.”# Parents need to show love and respect for children as young adults. Be a good example and to model good Christian behavior. Parents need to keep Gods decrees and commands. Parents are role models, if they don’t obey, children will follow their steps.
From what we expect from children can be taken from Ephesians 6:1-3,
“1.Children obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2. Honor your father and mother which is the first commandment with promise: 3. That it may be well with you and live long on the earth.”# Children need to show the respect to parents and show obedience.
There are so many causes and effects that we find children in the stages of child-rearing. Its up to the counselors, with the support from parents, to try to figure what causes the children the way they are and what are the effects that can happen because of the way children are being raised in the child-rearing stages. During the beginning sessions and the time with creating repertoire with the children and parents, counselors can usually find what the problems are with the counselees. At times, children and parents do not even agree on what constitutes a problem. A parent may view disobedience as a source of family stress, but the child may not see this as a problem at all.#
Counselors may recognize the cause problems within childhood development and psychopathology or problems that can come from root issues, examples would be retardation, depression, mental illness, etc. When counselors are able to find the causes, it will come clear to show and explain to the parents what the effects will be if the problem doesn’t come to a solution. Many effects can occur that can cause blame between parents, children, communities, societies, etc. It is important to recognize and for parents to cooperate in order to come to a solution.
Cooperation and understanding from the parents are important. Even if it comes out that the results from the cause are coming from the parents or communities, societies, etc, parents need to understand and follow the counselors advice in the situation. Counselors can only do so much, with finding the problems and helping to resolve those problems before it gets out of hand. Parents need to become the responsibility of the children and take charge of the situation. This is when the partnership between the counselor and parents come into factor during sessions. The counselors can do their part with the parents support but the parents over all will be the ones who will take that next step in making a change for their children and the future of their lives and welfare.
