There will be special moments throughout the weekend to acknowledge Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and her incredible reign. Honouring Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II The Goodwood Revival is due to go ahead this weekend with special dedicated moments to honour Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. In keeping with the period style of the event, Goodwood staff will be wearing black armbands throughout the Revival weekend and all visitors are welcome to do the same. There will be a book of condolence at the Motor Circuit for people to sign throughout the weekend and all Union flags will fly at half-mast. We will be showing a very special short film of The Queen at Goodwood over the years on each day of the event, which can be viewed across the site on the various big screens. Following the dedicated short film we ask guests to join us in a minute's silence. Across the weekend you can expect to see: Vintage fashion As well as some of the most exquisite classic cars, the Goodwood Revival offers guests the opportunity to immerse themselves in iconic vintage fashion. The Revival is defined by its period dress code with tweeds and trilbies for men and pin curls and petticoats for the ladies. Every outfit has a story behind it as the Revival community thrifts, borrows and restyles items in order to embrace the glamorous styles from the 1940s, ‘50s and ‘60s. Dress to impress as the ‘Best Dressed Competition’ judges will be on the lookout for authentic outfits across the weekend with the Best Dressed Competition held at 3pm each day on the Richmond Lawn. Le Mans at Goodwood Goodwood is delighted to announce that the 24 Hours of Le Mans Centenary Trophy will be on display at Revival. We’re looking forward to hosting the trophy on its epic relay around the world ahead of the special centenary celebrations at the Circuit de la Sarthe in 2023. On display at various locations across the event, the trophy joins 15 drivers who have won the 24 Hours of Le Mans 44 times between them. Continuing the Le Mans theme, the Rover-BRM Turbine that competed at Le Mans in the 60s will appear at the Motul Garage in the Chicane Paddock and will also take part in the Graham Hill celebrations across the weekend. Classic cars As always, the Goodwood Revival will showcase some of the most exquisite classic cars, motorcycles and planes as we celebrate with an extraordinary weekend of historic racing. On track, the Freddie March Memorial Trophy will host stunning sportscars from the late-1940s to early-1950s including the Jaguar C-Type, Aston Martin DB3S and the Allard J2X. Also set to race across the weekend are the likes of the Jaguar E-Type, Ferrari 250 SWB, Aston Martin DB4 GT and an impressive 30 MG Bs, taking part in their own dedicated race, the Lavant Cup. Earls raceway will also play host to a fleet of 1932 Fords for their 90th anniversary. Around the event There’s something for everyone at Revival from Over The Road, to the Revive & Thrive Village. The J40 Motor Company is offering free Austin J40 pedal car rides for children aged between 5-10 years old. The sessions will be available from 9am - 6pm each day, including a photo moment and the all important driver’s briefing. This wholesome opportunity will be available to book on the day via a first come, first served basis over at the J40 Motor Company stand near the Woodcote Paddocks. New for this year, the Revive & Thrive Village will become a fundamental new part of Revival. Jeep® Brand Reveals Plan for Global Leadership in SUV Electrification
Tumblr media
- The Jeep® brand reveals next phase of its all-electric product offensive to become the global Zero-Emission SUV leader  - The brand will introduce four all-electric SUVs in North America and in Europe by 2025 - Electrified models will be offered across the entire U.S. portfolio, including Wagoneer 4xe vehicles - 50% of sales in the U.S. and 100% of sales in Europe will be battery-electric vehicles (BEV) by 2030 - The brand premieres two all-new, all-electric, global SUVs - Jeep Avenger, first-ever fully electric Jeep SUV for Europe, will debut at the Paris Motor Show on October 17
The Jeep® brand today announced a comprehensive plan for its next generation of fully electric 4xe vehicles as part of a sustainable transformation to become the leading electrified SUV brand in the world.
The plan, which premiered on the brand’s YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/thejeepchannel, calls for the introduction of four all-electric SUVs in North America and Europe by the end of 2025. As part of an ongoing comprehensive product plan, 50% of Jeep brand sales in the U.S. will be fully electric by the end of 2030, while 100% of European sales will be all-electric by then. The plan is in full support of the net-zero carbon emissions targets set by Stellantis during the Dare Forward 2030 long-term strategic plan. “Driven by the success of our electrified 4xe portfolio in North America and Europe, we are designing and developing the most capable and sustainable Jeep SUVs to date, on our path to becoming the leading zero-emission SUV brand in the world,” said Christian Meunier, Jeep brand CEO. “This is a forward-thinking strategy to help ensure millions of Jeep fans around the world continue to have a planet to explore, embrace and protect. Electrification is great for our brand, making it even more capable, exciting, sustainable and fun.”  The Jeep brand showed the first images of two fully electric SUVs – the all-new Jeep Recon and an all-new Wagoneer, code name Wagoneer S – that will arrive in North America and other regions around the world, while confirming that the all-new, all-electric Jeep Avenger will launch in Europe early next year. Jeep Brand Electrified Portfolio in North America Building upon the success of the Jeep Wrangler 4xe, the best-selling plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) in the U.S., and the recently introduced Grand Cherokee 4xe, the brand is developing a comprehensive electrified product range specifically developed to enhance the brand’s legendary capability and expanding its reach in North America. “With the continuous expansion of the 4xe technology across our entire portfolio, we are redefining freedom and adventure in a way that only the Jeep brand can,” said Jim Morrison, head of Jeep brand North America. “By the end of 2025, our full lineup will be electrified, including four all-electric vehicles competing in the heart of the marketplace.”  This electrification plan will also expand the Wagoneer portfolio. The brand will offer an all-new all-electric Wagoneer in the premium midsize SUV segment. In the large SUV segment, the Wagoneer models will deliver powertrains that target an estimated 500 miles of combined range. By 2030, the Jeep brand will offer a full range of new battery-electric vehicles (BEV), establishing a lead in the SUV industry in terms of the number of models, segment participation and sales volume. As a result, 50% of brand sales in the U.S. will be all-electric vehicles. The All-new Jeep Recon: 100% Jeep; 100% Zero Emission One of the first all-new electric SUVs that will launch in North America is the Jeep Recon. This all-new vehicle is aimed at those who love to explore extreme adventures in near silence with a rugged, fully electric vehicle package.   The Jeep Recon is designed from the ground up to be 100% Jeep 4x4 and 100% zero emission. This SUV will be offered exclusively as a BEV, and it will enhance off-roading adventures with:  - True trail-rated capability with Jeep Selec-Terrain traction management system, e-locker axle technology, under-body protection, tow hooks and aggressive off-road tires - Authentic Jeep open-air freedom with a one-touch powertop, removable doors and glass  - The latest generation Uconnect system, including detailed travel guides of the most notable off-road trails “The all-new, all-electric Jeep Recon has the capability to cross the mighty Rubicon Trail, one of the most challenging off-road trails in the U.S. and reach the end of the trail with enough range to drive back to town and recharge,” said Meunier. This global SUV will be displayed to the public next year and production will start in 2024 in North America. Customers in the U.S. will be able to make a reservation for the new Jeep Recon BEV SUV in early 2023. The Jeep Recon will be sold in major markets around the world, including Europe. An All-new, All-electric Wagoneer – The Art of American Premium The Wagoneer family is also set to grow with an all-new SUV. Code-named Wagoneer S, this fully electric vehicle will continue to expand the brand’s presence in the premium SUV segment by offering a unique, sleek, aerodynamic design and 4x4 capability as standard, with all-terrain management, advanced Jeep brand-focused technology and impressive performance credentials. This new, all-electric, global SUV will be offered exclusively as a BEV, targeting a range of 400 miles on a single charge, 600 hp and a 0-60 mph time of around 3.5 seconds.  With an exterior design marked by a signature LED-lit grille, this SUV is driven by aerodynamic efficiency, combined with the upright iconic Wagoneer side view. “We’ll delight our customers with a premium, highly efficient SUV that is loaded with technology and high quality craftmanship, offering 4x4 capability, high performance, rapid acceleration and a target range of 400 miles on a single charge,” added Meunier. The all-new Wagoneer BEV will also be displayed to the public next year and production will start in 2024 in North America. Customers in the U.S. will be able to make a reservation for this all-electric Wagoneer model in early 2023. It will be sold in major markets around the world, including Europe. All-new Jeep Avenger, the First-ever Fully Electric Jeep SUV, Arrives in Europe in 2023 In Europe, the Jeep brand has already made a big shift by offering only electrified SUVs in countries such as Germany and France.  By the end of this year, 100% of the Jeep SUV portfolio will be electrified in almost all of the European markets. The plan revealed today builds upon this 4xe momentum, developing a portfolio of capable, fully electric vehicles designed and rightsized for Europe. The brand will introduce four zero-emission vehicles in Europe by 2025, with offerings in the main volume segments. As a result of this product onslaught, all the Jeep vehicles on sale in the region will be 100% electric by 2030.   The first model of this product offensive is the all-new, all-electric Jeep Avenger, a compact SUV that was presented during the Stellantis Dare Forward long-term strategic plan earlier this year. The all-new Jeep Avenger, to be introduced in Europe and other markets, such as Japan and South Korea, will be positioned under the Jeep Renegade and will be produced in the high-efficiency plant in Tychy, Poland.   With a targeted electric range of 400 kilometres, this new SUV will offer impressive ground clearance, breakover and approach angles for its segment, while delivering a modern and technologically advanced interior, with plenty of space for people and cargo. “The all-new Avenger will offer Jeep brand capability that is rightsized for the European market,” said Antonella Bruno, head of Jeep Europe at Stellantis, “This modern, fun and emotional SUV will appeal to a growing set of customers who are looking for a capable, compact, modern and all-electric Jeep brand alternative to the current players.”  The Jeep Avenger will debut during the Paris Motor Show press day, on October 17, with reservations opening for customers that same day. The all-new Jeep Avenger will arrive in showrooms in early 2023. 4xe Is the New 4x4 The Jeep brand continues to expand its 4xe portfolio across the globe, enhancing its legendary 4x4 capability with the use of electrification and technology. While details of the current plan focus on North America and Europe, specific plans for other regions will be announced at a later date. “Today we shared only a glimpse of our new portfolio of all-electric SUVs, providing tangible evidence of what is to come in the next 24 months and why we say that 4xe is the new 4x4,” said Meunier. “This powerful combination of Jeep design, legendary 4x4 capability and electrification will reshape the SUV market, allowing more customers in more countries and in more segments to join us on our path toward Zero Emission Freedom.” Jeep Brand Built on more than 80 years of legendary heritage, Jeep is the authentic SUV brand that brings capability, craftsmanship and versatility to people who seek extraordinary journeys. The Jeep brand delivers an open invitation to live life to the fullest by offering a broad portfolio of vehicles that continues to provide owners with a sense of security to handle any journey with confidence. The Jeep vehicle range consists of the Cherokee, Compass, Gladiator, Grand Cherokee, Renegade and Wrangler. Jeep Wave, a premium owner loyalty and customer care program that is available to the entire Jeep 4x4 lineup, is filled with benefits and exclusive perks to deliver Jeep 4x4 owners the utmost care and dedicated 24/7 support. The legendary Jeep brand's off-road capability is now being enhanced by a global electrification initiative, that is transforming 4xe into new 4x4 in pursuit of the brand’s vision of accomplishing Zero Emission Freedom.  Read the full article

Hagerty returns to the Goodwood Revival in style for 2022 with one of the rarest cars of the event due to be the star of the Hagerty stand.
The stunning 1954 Pegaso was built in the old Hispano-Suiza factory and features an all-alloy 90-degree V8 with four overhead camshafts. The V8 revs to 9000rpm, and a variety of carburetion set-ups was offered from new, including a single Weber for touring, twin carburetters for amateur competition, or a race specification with four carburetters. The glamorous Z-102B on display is one of 18 cars bodied by Saoutchik between 1952 and 1954, a coachbuilder which had a long tradition of creating some of the most spectacular-looking automobiles. Founded by Jacques Saoutchik, a cabinet-maker turned coachbuilder, the company made its mark in the 1930s with a succession of designs for the likes of Hispano-Suiza, Mercedes-Benz and Bucciali. The Hagerty display car is chassis 0146, originally shown at the 1954 Paris Salon in the Grand Palais, where it was purchased by Jean-Claude Lamy. Lamy subsequently entered the car into several competitions including the ’54 Rallye PanArmoricaine and the Rallye Sablé-Solesmes. Later, the Saoutchik coupe found its way to America, eventually being sold to Bill Harrah, who added the Pegaso to his ever-growing collection in Reno, Nevada. Harrah kept the highly original Z-102B in his 1450-car museum until his death in 1978. Then, the Pegaso was acquired by Ralph Engelstad for the Imperial Palace Auto Collection in Las Vegas. In February 2019, 65 years after its debut in the Grand Palais, the Saoutchik coupe returned to Paris to appear at the Rétromobile event. In addition to the wonderful Pegaso, the Hagerty stand, situated ‘over the road’ at the 2022 Goodwood Revival Meeting, will also feature a Hagerty lounge and bar, a racing simulator and members of the Hagerty team available to offer advice and guidance on their range of specialist insurance and membership products. Mark Roper, Hagerty International Managing Director, said, “What a privilege it is to be custodians of such a rare and beautiful car for the duration of the 2022 Goodwood Revival. Not only will our stand offer a relaxed environment for guests to explore our enthusiast-led products and services, but it will also provide a rare opportunity to see the Pegaso Saoutchik Coupe up close, where every detail can be savoured. I look forward to welcoming guests to our stand throughout the Revival weekend and presenting this special car.” Read the full article

Behind the scenes of the assembly of PEUGEOT’s electrified models
Tumblr media
PEUGEOT has lifted the lid on its growing team of technicians who are responsible for assembling and testing each and every battery that goes into its electric cars (100% electric or Plug-in Hybrid) and vans.
These experts represent Excellence, a key Brand value of PEUGEOT. They are specially trained before they join the European factories of the carmaker in Spain, Slovakia and France. Each battery is tested to ensure its reliability, performances and lifecycle. PEUGEOT’s electrification is accelerating in 2022 with the new 408, which is set to strengthen the brand’s Plug-in Hybrid offering, also reinforced by the recently launched new 308. In 2022, more than 70% of the PEUGEOT range sold worldwide is electrified. In Europe, the brand’s electrified models represent one passenger car out of four in H1/2022, up from one out of every six in 2021. By 2025, 100% of PEUGEOT model line-up will offer an electrified variant. This will require a substantial uplift in the number of batteries being produced. PEUGEOT estimates it will assemble up to 10,000 batteries a month for its car range by next year, and as many as 7,000 batteries a month for its LCV range. It takes roughly 60 minutes for the skilled technicians to assemble each 50kWh battery unit (pre-assembled cells and components). 90 minutes are necessary for the larger 75kWh units. The team subjects each battery to a series of critical tests, allowing each unit to be guaranteed with an eight-year / 100,000 miles warranty policy for 70% of its charge capacity. The testing process is mandatory to sign off the batteries for the assembly: - The first test simulates operation of the battery in a vehicle to validate reliability - A performance test stimulates the battery at full rate - The last test is a sealing test. The battery unit is pressurised by gas to check for leaks by monitoring pressure loss. A proper seal will prevent water or dirt from getting inside the battery cells and compromising its lifecycle or performance. Skilled operators work in the dedicated battery assembly workshops of five plants of the Stellantis Group: Vigo & Saragossa (Spain), Trnava (Slovakia), Sochaux & Mulhouse (France) and soon Hordain (France). Both electric and conventional combustion engine vehicles are assembled on the same line. The technicians who test and assemble the PEUGEOT vehicles' batteries come from Stellantis’ factories. They are selected on the basis of their electrification skills and are given month-long specialist training. As a consequence of the energy transition and of the increasing mix of electrified models, PEUGEOT and the wider Stellantis Group are increasing the number of technicians qualified to assemble and work on electrified vehicles. Jérôme Micheron, PEUGEOT Product Director, said: “The electrification of the PEUGEOT range is a success: LEV (Low Emission Vehicles) models represent one out of four Passenger Car sales in Europe in the first half of 2022. PEUGEOT provides a wide range of electrified vehicles with the full-electric e-208 and e-2008. The New 408, the New 308 (hatch and SW) as the 3008 and 508 (fastback and SW) come with Plug-in Hybrid engines. The LCV offer is complete with 100% electric versions, with e-PARTNER, e-EXPERT and e-BOXER.” PEUGEOT is strengthening its electrified vehicle range in 2022. The New 408 will come with two Plug-In hybrid powertrains, 180hp and 225hp from its launch. The New 308 offers these powertrains on the hatch and SW versions as well. Both new cars are built from an EMP2 platform evolution, which allows the implementation of a 100% electric motorisation. The LCV range was completed at the end of 2021 by He-EXPERT, which combines both electric and Fuel Cell technologies. Read the full article

The Golf R “20 Years” is the fastest Volkswagen R ever on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife
Tumblr media
- Thanks to the standard Performance package and 10 kW more, the Golf R “20 Years”1 has improved the lap time on the legendary Nürburgring-Nordschleife by a good 4 seconds compared with the current Golf R2 - The evolutionary enhancement of the engine and gearbox makes it possible to experience performance in everyday use and on the race track - The intelligent combination of “R-Performance package”, Vehicle Dynamics Manager and “R-Performance Torque Vectoring” increases the driving dynamics and enhances the driving experience - The anniversary vehicle with all-wheel drive underlines the continuity and evolution of the most powerful Golf versions over a period of 20 years
The stopwatch says it all: the new Golf R “20 Years” is the fastest R model of all time on the German racetrack Nürburgring-Nordschleife.
The anniversary vehicle with its increased power has bettered the previous lap record of a Golf R on the 20,832 km long racetrack once more by four seconds. The Golf R “20 Years” clocked an official lap time of 7:47.31 minutes. Thanks to its exclusive standard equipment, optimised driving dynamics and a standard output of 245 kW (333 PS), the Golf R “20 Years” offers significantly improved performance and guarantees an emotionally charged motorsport experience between the “Schwedenkreuz” and “Döttinger Höhe” track sections. The sporty edition to celebrate the 20th anniversary delivers 10 kW more than the current Golf R production model. Equipped with this engine power, the Golf “20 Years” accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds; its electronically limited top speed is 270 km/h. Thanks to the significantly improved engine response, the increased power also makes itself noticeable in everyday situations such as overtaking manoeuvres. But it is not just the power of the 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine that makes the special-edition model the most dynamic Volkswagen R of all time on the Nordschleife. The clear increase in performance is also the result of the extensive standard equipment with technical highlights such as the R- Performance package, Driving Dynamics Manager and R-Performance Torque Vectoring. What could be a better place to test this combination than the Nürburgring- Nordschleife? The evolution of the powerful all-wheel-drive Golf R models can be impressively followed here over the last 20 years. Touring car race driver and Volkswagen R development driver Benjamin Leuchter took on this task and tested the special-edition model on the legendary race track. He was also actively involved in the realisation of the R-Performance package for the Golf R “20 Years”. Alongside the regular “Comfort”, “Sport” and “Race” driving profiles, the special-edition model also comes as standard with the additional “Special” and “Drift” profiles. For driving on the Nordschleife, the race driver chose the “Special” driving profile, which was developed for this track. This profile gives the vehicle a set-up that meets the unique requirements of what is probably the most demanding race track in the world. This includes adjusting the shock absorbers to a more soft and comfortable setting due to the enormous loads at the maximum performance level when driving on such tracks. As one of the 15 possible settings of the controlled shock absorbers, this guarantees optimum road contact on tracks with a large number of bumps, just like the Nürburgring. Together with the adapted steering wheel and drive settings, this makes it possible to take the large number of fast and medium-fast bends on the Nordschleife in an ideal way. In “Individual” mode of the Driving Dynamics Manager, it is also possible to manually adjust all parameters, such as R-Performance Torque Vectoring or the engine sound, and adapt them in line with personal preferences. The timed lap of the Nürburgring-Nordschleife took place with a flying start in front of grandstand T13. The start and finish for the measurement are at the start and end of the grandstand – the 200 metres in between are not counted. Trust in the vehicle is not just the key to lap records, but also to safe driving pleasure. Staying on line at all times, the Golf R “20 Years” effortlessly mastered the fast changes between kerbs and the following bends such as “Hatzenbach”. The modified shift characteristics of the 7-speed gearbox allow gear changes with more intensive feedback and make the powerful driving experience in the Golf R “20 Years” even more emotive. The optimised exhaust system sound in the low engine speed range and the rougher engine sound in the vehicle interior underline the vehicle’s increased dynamic performance. The step forward in development compared with the predecessor model is also shown by the enhanced engine tuning of the Volkswagen R anniversary vehicle. The preloaded turbocharger is also kept at a constant speed in overrun mode so that the engine can develop its power more quickly in subsequent acceleration. This process is supported by the continuously open throttle valve. When the driver takes their foot off the accelerator and then accelerates again, this allows faster build-up of the torque and noticeably improves the engine’s responsiveness. The Golf R “20 Years” with its performance-oriented drive technology achieved a speed of almost 240 km/h at the “Schwedenkreuz” crest, while 265 km/h was measured at the “Döttinger Höhe” on the Nürburgring. The new record time of 7:47.31 minutes means an improvement of four seconds compared to the predecessor model and a special gift for Volkswagen R to mark the 20th model anniversary. Blurring the lines between production and race cars. The Golf R “20 Years” effortlessly bridges the gap between everyday companion and thoroughbred athlete. “With this car, I can drive here on the Nürburgring and the next stop is then the baker’s or the DIY store. The vehicle is really an all-rounder that can do everything,” says a visibly impressed Benjamin Leuchter. And that is exactly the concept pursued by Volkswagen R: Volkswagen’s premium performance brand has already been offering special models since 2002. With their enhanced performance and expressive design, they generate enthusiasm all over the world in the Volkswagen fan communities. The continuous and rapid development towards even greater performance can be easily seen by taking a look at some of the vehicle data of the models from past years. Starting with the Golf R323 with 177 kW (241 PS) and a 3.2-litre six-cylinder engine as the drive unit, through the Golf 6 R3 with 199 kW (270 PS) and a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine, the performance-oriented Golf models up to the Golf R “20 Years” with 245 kW (333 PS) have not just become more powerful, but also faster. Volkswagen R is celebrating this successful model development with the Golf R “20 Years”. The production period limited to approximately one year makes the special- edition model a collector’s item as soon as it rolls off the production line. You can see highlights from the racetrack in this video at: https://www.volkswagen-newsroom.com/de/videos-und-footage/highlight- video-mit-en-untertitel-11787/preview?token=a773b953ac0efa332213 onboard lap (uncut): https://www.volkswagen-newsroom.com/de/videos-und-footage/onboard-runde-uncut-11788/preview?token=77036a9d9e5005c72a35 20 years of the Golf R – an overview of the model history  Year of manufacture/ Model Drive Engine output Torque Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h Top speed 2002 Golf R323 3.2-litre six-cylinder 177 kW (241 PS) 320 Nm 6.4 seconds 247 km/h 2005 Golf 5 R323 3.2-litre six-cylinder 184 kW (250 PS) 320 Nm 6.2 seconds 248 km/h 2009 Golf 6 R3 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo 199 kW (270) PS 350 Nm 5.5 seconds 250 km/h 2013 Golf 7 R3 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo 221 kW (300 PS) 400 Nm 4.9 seconds 250 km/h, optionally 270 km/h with Performance package (from product upgrade) 2020 Golf 8 R 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo 235 kW (320 PS) 420 Nm 4.7 seconds 250 km/h, optionally 270 km/h with R- Performance package 2022 Golf R “20 Years” 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo 245 kW (333 PS) 420 Nm 4.6 seconds 270 km/h 1 Golf R “20 Years” (245 kw / 333 PS) - fuel consumption, l/100 km (NEDC): urban 9.3; extra urban 6.2-6.1; combined 7.3; CO₂ emissions, g/km: combined 166-165; efficiency class: D 2 Golf R (235 kw / 320 PS) - fuel consumption, l/100 km (NEDC): urban 9.0; extra urban 6.0-5.9; combined 7.1-7.0; CO₂ emissions, g/km: combined 163-161; efficiency class: D 3 Golf IV R32 / Golf 5 R32 / Golf 6 R / Golf 7 R / - This models are no longer on sale. Behind the scenes of the assembly of PEUGEOT’s electrified models

Honda celebrates 25 years of the Civic Type R
Tumblr media
- Introduced in 1997, Civic Type R has been continuously refined to deliver the ultimate front-engine, front-wheel drive experience - The Type R name has been synonymous with delivering an unmistakable mix of enthralling dynamics and high-performance engines - Crimson Honda badge has now been applied to six generations of Civic - Latest variant becomes the performance halo of the Honda range
Honda’s iconic Civic is celebrating two anniversaries this year:
50 years of continuous production and 25 years of the high-performance, race-derived Type R variant, which rewrote the rulebook on what a hot hatch should be. Despite being born as the more attainable Type R, the Civic variants embody the Type R philosophy the maximum thanks to exquisite engineering and engaging dynamics. Over six generations, the formula has evolved to deliver the ultimate front engine, front wheel drive performance hatchback to customers. One that can comfortably handle the daily commute from Monday to Friday, before tackling the circuit at weekends. EK9 (1997-2000): An affordable, accessible Type R for all The Type R nameplate can be traced back to the 1992 Honda NSX Type R, which raised the bar on performance and dynamic ability, but was only available in extremely limited numbers. Applying the Type R philosophy to the Civic followed a similar engineering ethic to the Integra and NSX to offer an engaging, rewarding drive. The EK9 was offered to the Japanese market only and had a high-end specification; including a hand-ported 1.6-liter DOHC VTEC engine that produced a highly impressive 116bhp-per—litre, a lightweight seam-welded shell that contributed to a total vehicle weight of just 1050kg, paired with a helical Limited Slip Differential (LSD), and unique suspension components to completely transform the driving experience. Launched to outstanding reviews, the EK9 set in motion the pursuit of the ultimate front-engine, front wheel drive performance hatchback. EP3 (2001 – 2005) A European take on the Type R As a result of the overwhelming success of the first-generation car, the second-generation was offered across Europe; thanks, in part, to now being manufactured in the United Kingdom. The new car introduced an all-new, and now iconic 2.0-liter DOHC i-VTEC ‘K’ series engine that redefined what a normally aspirated two-litre engine could do. It too featured uprated brakes, a precise, close-ratio six-speed transmission and a shell that made extensive use of high-tensile steel to increase torsional static rigidity by 80% over the EK9. Toe-control link strut suspension in the front and reactive-link double-wishbone suspension at the rear combined with new electric power steering (EPS) and variable gear ratio (VGR) for highly rewarding steering feel and feedback. FN2/ FD2 (2007-2011) Type R – two ways The third generation Civic Type R was unique in that the European and Japanese models differed dramatically. Europe received the FN2-based hatchback, which retained the proven 2.0-liter engine, but introduced a new chassis that moved the fuel tank beneath the front seats to improve interior space and flexibility. Japanese customers were instead offered the FD2 saloon, which offered an even more focused driving experience thanks to additional items such as a more powerful K20A engine, a helical LSD and powerful Brembo brakes. The saloon’s increased weight was countered by extensive use of structural adhesives instead of welding, and aluminium in both the chassis and panels. FK2 (2015-2017) Introducing the VTEC TurboA As market and regulatory expectations shifted, the move toward turbocharging was inevitable. Honda engineers worked meticulously to develop the K20C1 turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that offered explosive performance thanks to a 310PS output. In order to better control that significant increase in power, Honda introduced its Dual Axis Strut Suspension paired with a limited-slip differential to counter the torque-steer encountered in high output front wheel drive cars. The 2015 Civic Type-R sprinted from 0-100km/h in just 5.7 seconds and came equipped with large diameter (351mm) front discs that formed part of the high-performance Brembo braking system. The FK2 proved a formidable base for a competition car, winning several TCR Touring Car titles across the globe. FK8 (2017-2022) The Ultimate Sports hatchback Arriving in 2017, the FK8 was the ultimate evolution of the Civic Type R. A significant evolution of the FK2, the new car gained a host of new mechanical features such as adaptive dampers, and further revisions to the K20C1 engine to boost power to 320PS. The model also introduced downforce to the equation for an even more intense drive; the external aerodynamic package worked in unison with an advanced, almost flat underfloor, to actively contribute to negative lift. The model also made its debut in the United States, with the region leading global sales for the car. FL5 (2022-) Ultimate Sports 2.0 Launching later this year, the all-new generation car further evolves, matures, and refines technologies that have been developed over several generations. Whilst new technologies and refined aerodynamics have helped set the bar higher once again, a clear lineage can be traced back to the FD2 generation with the incremental revisions resulting in the fastest, most rewarding and addictive Civic Type R ever built. Already the track record holder at Suzuka, the 2022 Civic Type R is a fitting way to celebrate 30 years of the Type R nameplate. More information on the all-new Civic Type R can be found on the link below: https://hondanews.eu/gb/en/cars/media/pressreleases/408031/honda-unveils-all-new-civic-type-r Read the full article

🇺🇲 1948 OLDSMOBILE 98 FUTURAMIC CUSTOM CONVERTIBLE
Tumblr media
For the first time since 1940 Oldsmobile offered totally different styling during a single model year. Third generation (1948–1953)
The top of the line 1948 Oldsmobile 98 was also included in a marketing campaign for what Oldsmobile called "Futuramic" on all 1949 Oldsmobiles primarily focused on the automatic transmission 1948 Oldsmobile Futuramic introduction. Standard equipment on 98s included a solenoid starter, fender skirts, E-Z-l rearview mirror, and foam rubber seat cushions. The 98s also included front and rear bumper guards, vacuum booster pump, plastic radiator ornament, dual horns, dual sun visors, and cigarette lighter. Deluxe equipment added front and rear floor mats, Deluxe steering wheel, wheel trim rings, rear seat armrests, and hydraulic window, seat and top controls on all convertibles. Upholstery was either broadcloth or leather. The standard tire size was 6.50 x 16. The Custom Cruiser name was retired until 1971 when it was used to denote full-size Oldsmobile station wagons. The new styling was apparently popular with a record 65,235 98s sold, exceeding the number of 90s sold in 1940 for the first time. The following year the new styling was joined by a new engine, the now famous Rocket V8. In February 1949, several months into the model year, General Motors introduced three highly styled "hardtop convertible" coupes, the Oldsmobile 98 Holiday, the Cadillac Series 62 Coupe de Ville, and the Buick Roadmaster Riviera, the first hardtop coupes ever produced. The Holiday was exclusive to the 98 series that year. Available in four special Holiday colors, as well as four two-tone combinations, it was priced the same as the convertible, and was similarly equipped, with hydraulically operated windows and seat. Only 3,006 Holidays were sold in its first year compared to 20,049 Club coupes. Total sales reached 93,478 in 1949, setting yet another record. The 1950 Oldsmobile 98 repeated its 1948 precedent of previewing some of next years styling cues for the 88. The 98 was restyled after only two years. It was the first totally slab sided Oldsmobile and the first sedan with wraparound rear windows. A 4-door 98 fastback appeared for one year only in 1950 and was called the Town Sedan, selling only 1,778 units. Standard equipment included bumper guards, dual horns, parking lamps, dome light, rubber floor mats, aluminum sill plates, foam rubber seat cushions, chrome interior trim, lined luggage compartment and counterbalanced trunk lid. Deluxe 98 equipment included rear seat armrest, Deluxe electric clock, Deluxe steering wheel and horn button, special door trim and stainless steel wheel trim rings. Upholstery choices spanned nylon fabric, striped broadcloth or leather. Standard tire size was 7.6 (193) by 15 inches (381 millimetres). In 1950, Oldsmobile stopped naming the 98 series and so from then through 1996, with the exception of 1957 when it was called the Starfire 98, and in 1961 when it was called the Classic 98, it was simply known as the Oldsmobile 98. Sales of the 98 Holiday nearly tripled to 8263, approaching the 11,989 sold of the Club coupe. Given the rapidly growing popularity of the 2-door Holiday hardtop, 1950 was the last year for the pillared Club coupe. Total sales set yet another record of 106,220. The 98 topped the Oldsmobile line again for 1951 with Three body styles available. The 4-door sedan and convertible came only with Deluxe equipment, while the Holiday hardtop was available with either Deluxe or Standard trim. The 98 standard equipment included bumper guards, cigarette lighter, dome light, rubber floor mats, stainless steel moldings, lined trunk, illuminated ashtray, foam rubber seat cushions and extra chrome moldings. Deluxe equipment was special rear door ornament, rear center armrests, Deluxe electric clock, Deluxe steering wheel with horn ring and special chrome trim. Upholstery choices were nylon cord, nylon cloth and leather. The pillared Club coupe was no longer offered. With the only choice in a closed 2-door 98 now being the hardtop, Holiday sales nearly doubled to 17,929 units. Read the full article

🇨🇵 1935 Voisin C28 Aérosport Aircraft designer by Gabriel Voisin.
Tumblr media
Gabriel Voisin was a visionary who began in aviation and then moved on to creating luxury cars.
During the First World War Voisin’s aircraft had been bombers but when that holocaust was ended Voisin decided that he’d had enough of making such things and he moved on to making luxury cars of uniqueness and beauty. During the thirties nothing any other automobile manufacturer in the world could match the creations of Gabriel Voisin, likely because no-one else was willing to take the sort of design risks he took. Although Gabriel Voisin began in automotive design with fairly conventional cars it didn’t take him long to start applying his extensive knowledge of aircraft design and construction to his cars. He understood aerodyanamics, he valued the use of aluminium, and knew that he wanted his cars to be whisper quiet as befits a car that is perhaps better than anything Rolls-Royce were making. To sell a luxury car the first visual impression is of the exterior. The aesthetics of the car need to capture the imagination of the potential buyer. It has to be something that pretty much takes ones breath away. That first impression must then be reinforced with an interior that one feels that one belongs in. Then when the car’s engine is started even before the buyer experiences it on the road the effect needs to be one of silent controllable power. It needs to feel like the test drive equivalent of a visit to Tiffany’s. Gabriel Voisin’s “piece de resistance” in automotive design was and is his C28 Aérosport. The cars that preceded it were simply wonderful. The C28 Aérosport somehow managed to be his crowning piece of automotive art and engineering. The pneumatic vacuum actuated sun roof gliding open or closed bringing with it an impression like something out of a science fiction movie. The engine being a 3.3-liter six-cylinder with Knight sleeve valves. The sleeve valves are literally two sleeves that wrap around each cylinder, one for inlet and one for exhaust. These are moved up and down by a shaft which functions like a camshaft but with connecting rods attached to each sleeve. The sleeve valve system engine is silent as it does not have noisy tappets or poppet valves clicking shut. Mated to this silent 102 bhp, 3,318 cc inline sleeve valve six-cylinder engine was a then state of the art four-speed Cotal epicyclic preselector transmission with overdrive. This effectively gives the car eight forward speeds and two reverse but of course one wouldn’t actually drive the car like that but simply choose low range or high range depending on driving circumstances. Of the few Avions Voisin C28 Aérosports to have been built prior to the outbreak of the Second World War the car featured in our pictures is one of only two known to still exist. Although damaged during the war the car was repaired and used up until the sixties. The car was acquired by a collector in the eighties but restoration work waited until 1998 when it was purchased by its current owner. Gabriel Voisin’s “Avions Voisin” motor cars are some of the most outstanding ever made in any era. This one is an example of his finest work. Read the full article

🇮🇹 The Beauty And The Beast 1968 Alfa Romeo 33/2 Stradale 2.0 V8 230 hp
Tumblr media
The 39-inch tall alfa romeo 33/2 stradale won the coppa d’oro at the concorso d’eleganza villa d’este which is voted for by the public.
The 1968 model, just one of twelve made, entered class D – a new world, new ideas: the story of the GT – and wondered with its spectacular body shrouding and doors that opened sky high. the mid-engine, sports coupe was, unsurprisingly, sculpted by the great italian coachmaker scaglione. underneath the lightweight exterior, it holds a V8 engine that produces 1,996 cc and 230 hp at 8,800 hp.
Tumblr media
In the mid-1960s, Autodelta, Alfa Romeo's competition department, was successful with the GTAm, a supercharged coupé that was a regular feature of touring car races. However, the brand wanted to enter the sport-prototype category. Presiding over the destiny of Autodelta, Carlo Chiti set to work and the result was the Tipo 33, a fairly modern car with a tube-frame chassis and a V8 engine of only 2 litres displacement mounted in the rear. Weighing only about 700 kg unladen, the 33, with its 250 to 270 bhp (depending on the engine configuration), was very quick. Thirty examples were produced and it took part in numerous competitions. Buoyed by the success of his racing car, Chiti thought of developing a road version. He turned to the designer Franco Scaglione for his line. The 33 Stradale was unveiled at the 1967 Frankfurt Motor Show. The Italian car was beautiful, but mechanically had been toned down for road use. But not by as much as you'd think, as its four-cam V8 still developed 230 hp and allowed it to reach 260 km/h. Sold at a very high price (even more than a Lamborghini Miura!), the 33 Stradale was destined to remain a rare vehicle. In two years of production, only 18 cars left the Autodelta workshops, where they were built entirely by hand. The Swiss collector Albert Spiess is the owner of the rare treasure finished in bright red paintwork. He received the trophy in the garden of the Grand Hotel Villa d’Este accompanied by applause from the public. Spiess’s passion for collecting primarily concentrates on Italian rare treasures and this is not his first major success at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. Often considered one of the most beautiful cars ever made, it has become a much sought after "unicorn" by the world's greatest collectors. Its value is estimated at between 12 and 15 million euros! 🇺🇲 Another 1948 Tucker Torpedo Model 48 4-door sedan.
Tumblr media
One of 51 cars ever built; worth $2.9 million
Preston Tucker and his backers may not have made money from the 51 Tucker 48 "Torpedo" sedans built before his grandiose scheme to revolutionize the American automobile went sideways and ended up in history's wrecking yard – but subsequent investors certainly have. A buyer handed over a record $2.9-million (U.S.) for one of the 47 survivors in January to top the Barrett-Jackson Nevada auction. The fast-talking Tucker raised $28-million in 1947 to launch his car company, Tucker Corp. The money came from a stock offering, down payments for dealerships and a bizarre scheme that sold accessories such as seat covers and radios to hopeful buyers, allowing them to get on a list to purchase cars that had yet to go into production. 🇮🇹 1952 Abarth Fiat Bertone 1500 Biposto
Tumblr media
Designed by Franco Scaglione, Nuccio Bertone, and Carlo Abarth as a one-off for the 1952 Turin Motor Show, this Fiat 1500 Abarth appeared on the Fiat stand.
It is among the earliest, if not the first, of the Fiat-based Abarths. After working on this car, Bertone went on to design the famous Alfa Romeos, B.A.T. 5,7, and 9, between 1953 and 1955. This car, therefore, has a claim on the title of B.A.T. 1 (Berlina Aerodinainca Technica). It shares the concepts and details echoed in the subsequent cars in that series. The car carries a 75 horsepower, inline, four-cylinder engine, with overhead valves and dual Weber carburetors. It uses a four-speed gearbox and drum brakes. The car traveled to the Packard styling studio, where it was used as a design study. it was spotted and admired by Richard Austin Smith, an associate editor of Fortune Magazine. Smith was in Detroit doing research for a magazine article on 'Packard's Road Back.' during his visit, a new advertising campaign was described, but they had not coined a slogan. Mr. Smith made suggestions, which ended up being adopted. The car was presented to Mr. Smith, as compensation for his suggested slogan. Fortune management allowed Mr. Smith to accept the car, and it remained with him until his passing. The car was used for approximately 20 years, acquiring 32,000 kilometers of use, before being placed in dry storage in Connecticut. It was discovered in a barn in New England, where it had been in storage since the 1970s. Its owner had been given the car in 1953 by Packard President James Nance, who had purchased the car at the Turin Auto Show with the idea of studying it for design ideas for Packard's own cars. This Bertone-bodied Abarth 1500 Biposto coupe is one of the most important barn finds in recent motoring history. Fifty years after the Turin show, it was bought by its current owner who undertook its restoration. Read the full article

🇬🇧 1948 Jaguar 'Mark IV' 3½ Litre Drophead Coupé
Tumblr media
The name 'Jaguar' was first used by SS Cars Ltd in 1936 to denote its new high-performance sports model, the SS100; company founder William Lyons later recalled: 'I immediately pounced on Jaguar as it had an exciting sound to me.'
'SS' originally stood for the Swallow Sidecar & Coachbuilding Company, which had been founded in Blackpool, England by William Walmsley. The company branched out into motor manufacture in 1926, its first major success being an attractive sports saloon on the Austin Seven chassis, the design being the work of Walmsley's partner, one William Lyons. Relocation to Coventry followed and the Swallow range expanded to include models on Morris Cowley, Wolseley Hornet and Standard Sixteen chassis. Marque status arrived in October 1931 with the launch of the SS1, the chassis of which was supplied exclusively to Swallow by Standard, who also provided the six-cylinder sidevalve engine and four-speed gearbox. Although unspectacular in performance, the SS1 went some way towards establishing the pattern for future Jaguars, combining sporting good looks with a better-than-average specification and all at a bargain price. ('Jaguar' would be adopted as the marque name in March 1945, 'SS' having by then acquired a somewhat tarnished reputation). When peace came some six months later, the newly renamed Jaguar Cars, like the majority of Britain's motor manufacturers, commenced post-war production with a range of pre-war designs, albeit with some minor improvements. Essentially stopgap models pending the arrival of an entirely new generation of Jaguars, these comprised the compact 1½-Litre and the 2½/3½-Litre model, retrospectively known as the 'Mark IV', which still enjoyed an enviable reputation for strong performance, good road manners and well appointed interiors. Top the Mark IV range was the decidedly voluptuous 3½-Litre Drophead Coupé, a full five seater that boasted an ingenious three-position hood giving occupants the choice of open, closed or coupé de ville motoring. Utilising the same all-steel body construction as its late 1930s SS Jaguar forebear, the newcomer appeared even more svelte thanks to a revised hypoid bevel rear axle that allowed the floor to be lowered by two inches. Produced from 1945 to 1949, Jaguar's 3½ Litre (referred to today as the Mark IV) was offered as either a sports saloon or a traditional Drophead Coupe with a three position convertible top. Only 664 Drophead Coupes were produced with 407 of them being left-hand drive export models. As stunning of a design today as it was then, the Jaguar Mark IV offers pre-war British motoring appeal with post-war refined mechanicals. It is no wonder why examples are cherished by collectors and enthusiasts throughout the world. Read the full article

1957 Mercedes Benz 300 SC Cabriolet
Tumblr media
The history of Mercedes-Benz often catered to luxury car buyers, offering upscale models that were exclusive and expensive.
Following World War II, they quickly regained their position within the lucrative and profitable luxury segment, and by 1952, a new three-liter overhead-cam six-cylinder engine was powering their newly designed four-door luxury sedans and convertibles, in addition to smaller numbers of the 300 on all oval-tube chassis. The 300 models were larger, more luxurious, more complex, and heavier than the utilitarian 170s and 220s. They ranked among the world's most elegant automobiles of the 1950s. Introduced in April of 1951 at the first-ever Frankfurt Motor Show and later that year in October at the Paris Motor Show, the Mercedes-Benz 300 were traditional in design, with elegant styling in the prewar tradition, yet refreshingly modern. Built from 1951 to 1958, they achieved uncompromising quality standards and employed the latest materials and technologies to achieve excellent power and to minimize weight. Using the best craftsmen and artisans from within the Mercedes-Benz organization, each Mercedes-Benz 300 was essentially custom-built. Along with luxury and style, they were endowed with performance, capable of cruising on the autobahn at three-digit speeds, even with a full load of occupants and their luggage in grand touring style. Luxuriously finished and trimmed in the highest quality materials, the Mercedes-Benz 300 was safe, comfortable, elegant, and fast. The 300 was initially offered in cabriolet and saloon body styles on the W186 chassis. Later, the W188 chassis was used for the roadster, coupe, and cabriolet versions. The 300 Saloon wearing conservative styling was joined by the 300S (Super), built in similar elegance of the pre-war 540K. Introduced at the Paris Salon in October 1951, the 300S was built in two-seater Coupe, Cabriolet and Roadster forms on a shortened 300 saloon chassis. The two-seater was considerably lighter than the saloon, and it was more powerful, boasting an engine equipped with triple (as opposed to twin) Solex carburetors and a raised compression ratio. Rated at 150 horsepower, the coupe was capable of top speeds in the neighborhood of 110 mph. Along with performance, it was lavishly equipped with supple leather upholstery, burr walnut trim, precision-made switchgear, and chromium-plated dashboard instrumentation. In September 1955, the fuel injection system of the 300 SL was introduced to its range-leading flagship model line, the 300 S, resulting in the 300 Sc. The dry-sump M188 II engine used a slightly milder camshaft than the sports car, equipped with the Bosch fuel injection system, produced 175 horsepower and 182 pound-feet of torque, a substantial increase over the S. Fuel was injected directly into the cylinders, but the fuel injection pump was driven by a chain instead of a gear train. To cope with the performance, Mercedes-Benz added servo-assisted brakes, optional from 1954, and standardized thereafter. Similar to that of the 300SL Roadster, the 300Sc used a revised rear suspension with single-pivot swing axles, a setup that enhanced handling and road-holding characteristics. Zero-to-sixty mph was attainable in approximately 13 seconds and top speed was in the neighborhood of 112 mph. The 300Sc was more expensive than the 300SL sports car and nearly double the price of the contemporary top-of-the-range Cadillac. Denoted by the words 'Einspritzmotor' (fuel-injected engine) on the rear bumper, Mercedes-Benz introduced its 300 Sc at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1955. Distinguishable styling features included perforated chromed disc wheels, chromed cooling vents about each fender, and enlarged turn signals. Manufactured for less than three years, just 200 examples were built. 145 units were sold during the remainder of 1955 and through 1956. 52 examples were sold in 1957 and three more in 1958 after production ended. In total, only 49 cabriolets, 53 roadsters, and 98 coupes were sold, making these among the rarest dealer-ordered automobiles ever produced by Mercedes-Benz. The 300, 300b, 300c, and 300d touring cars were often referred to as Adenauers after Konrad Adenauer, the first Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany. In office from 1949 to 1963, he employed six custom convertible, hardtop, and landaulet versions of this model during his tenure. It was the most expensive luxury car of its day, twice as much as the 300SL and American luxury cars of the day. Equally important, it was the model that returned Mercedes-Benz to its prewar international clientele. Hence this was a car of the rich and famous including the Aga Kahn, the Shah of Iran, King Gustav of Sewden, Frank Lloyd Wright, Gary Cooper, Yul Brenner, Maria Callas, Clark Gable & Bing Crosby.
