How to use Firefox's Browsing History effectively
Some of the best business ideas begin with family, and 25-year-old Ming Yang’s Orchard Tech, a business that helps Baby Boomers cross the digital divide, is one of them.
Yang’s mother was trying to sign up for health insurance a few years ago by filling out an application online, but couldn’t quite get the hang of it. Naturally she asked her daughter for help.
“She didn’t know how to use her computer and emails and upload documents and that's when I realized that in this day and age, not knowing how to use computers in whatever capacities means not really experiencing and moving forward in life,” Yang said.
So Yang reasoned that if her mother needed help, there were probably plenty of others among her mother’s chronological peers who might be in the same situation and benefit from the assistance that a digital-savvy millennial might provide.https://osf.io/pmv5h/
https://anas.digital/community/docs/full-hd-wonder-woman84-2020-full_movies-1080p-free-online/
And so Yang, who has a degree in computer engineering from the University of Florida, founded Orchard Tech in 2018.
She got backing from the Engineering Innovation Institute at UF, also winning second place in its “Big Idea” competition, which gave her $10,000 in seed money. https://osf.io/qpndb

Yang said the company started out offering one-on-one in-person help, but when COVID began in early 2020, things changed and the startup transitioned to offering virtual help.
Much of Orchard’s client base now comes from people who are traditional retirement age, but not yet retired, Yang said, because they prefer to stay active and engaged.https://osf.io/4zguc/

“We love working and working is not work anymore. It provides meaning,” she said. “But now in order to really do productive work we have to use technology and there's so many great tools out there so many new things that are always coming out.https://osf.io/vs5z7/

“We thought we could be that coach because we young people were using these things every day, and we could be that coach for people that didn't grow up with the technology and help them do their best work.”https://osf.io/4cdfv/

Orchard Tech does this with individual one-off sessions as well as membership plans that range from a minimal support yearly program to one that offers as many virtual sessions as a member needs. All plans come with unlimited quick support 20-minute phone calls.
“We're more of kind of like a tech coach insurance that we're always here, you always have us at your beck and call to ask any questions whenever," she said.https://www.vlive.tv/post/0-20534134

So now Yang and her team of Orchard “techies” focus on providing “empathetic tech coaching and support” for digital immigrants.
While Yang and Orchard are getting plenty of media coverage, including Yang’s recent appearance on "The Kelly Clarkson Show," it's word-of-mouth that is really doing the job.https://www.vlive.tv/post/0-20534162

“Finding people in the ‘traditional’ way of going viral on Instagram doesn’t really work because in our group, people might not be on Instagram,” Yang said.
Orchard Tech’s client base has grown from a handful of people to hundreds of clients based not only in Gainesville, but also in North Carolina, Tennessee and other locations throughout the United States.https://www.vlive.tv/post/1-20541181

How to use Firefox's Browsing History effectively
The Firefox web browser keeps track of visited sites locally just like any other browser. The main idea behind the recording of visited sites is to provide users with suggestions based on past visits when they type in the address bar and also as an option to find previously visited sites to reopen them using the Library.
Accessing the browsing history is not really that straightforward, as you first need to know that it is found under Library in Firefox. Select Menu > Library > History to display it in the menu. While that may be sufficient for some, others may prefer to browse the history in an interface that is more comfortable to use.https://www.vlive.tv/post/1-20541213
https://anas.digital/community/docs/putlockers-wonder-woman84-2020-full_movies-on-google-drive1080p-free-onlinehd/
You can either select "show all history" to display the history in a separate window, or use the Show History Sidebar option to display the browsing history in a sidebar in the browser. Both options provide better manageability thanks to the larger interface, built-in search functionality and sorting options.
The Browsing History Sidebar in Firefox
The browsing history sidebar takes up some space in the Firefox interface, but it is visible all the time next to the active site. You may launch it from the Menu but also with the shortcut Ctrl-H (to toggle it on or off).
The sidebar lists all visits chronologically by default; a click displays the list of visited sites, each with its page title and favicon. Click on an entry with the left mouse button to load it in a new tab in Firefox. You may also right-click to get additional options:
Open the site in a new window or a new private window.
Bookmark the page.
Copy the page URL.
Delete the page entry in the browsing history.
Forget about the entire site.
The last option removes all traces of the site in the Firefox browsing history.
The view menu lists several sort options; the default sorts the records chronologically, but you may switch that the following sort orders instead: date and site, site, most visited, or last visited. These sort options can be very useful in finding history records quickly. The built-in search displays only matching records; one shortcoming of the search is that sorting is ignored in the search results.
The dedicated browsing history window of Firefox
The browsing history library window resembles the sidebar listing on first glance. Since it launches in a dedicated window, it comes with extra options such as changing the size of the window.
Tip: use Ctrl-Shift-H to display the window right away.
First thing you may notice is that the library that opens includes downloads, bookmarks and other records and not just the browsing history. The history is sorted chronologically just like the sidebar listing. You get the same sorting options when you activate the View menu on the page, and also some that the sidebar does not list.
Tags
Location
Added
Last Modified
A-Z or Z-A
Not all of these are of much use, e.g. tags only if you have added tags to history records and the same can be said for last modified or location (which means the URL in this context).
The View menu may be used to display more data including the visit count and the most recent visit date/time.
Individual entries provide more information though. When you left-click on an entry you see the page name, URL and description. You may add tags to history entries.
To open a record, double-click on an entry. You may also right-click to access the same options as the sidebar's context menu.
Using the Firefox Library for effective History management
Most Firefox users access the history when they try to find a site that they opened in the past, e.g. to reopen it or add it to the bookmarks of the browser for safe keeping.
The sidebar menu may offer the quickest way to find records. All you do is press Ctlr-H to display it, and either the search or manual browsing to find the history entry. Left-click on it to open it, or right-click and select bookmark to add it to the bookmarks.
Tags can be useful, but only if you keep the browsing history indefinitely and don't delete it at all (as tags are deleted with the records).
The library window offers additional data and sorting options. You may sort by most or least visited for example, something that you cannot do in the sidebar.
In short: memorize the keyboard shortcuts to display the history sidebar or dedicated library window directly. Make use of the sort options to sort the data based on your needs, or use the search to find entries quickly if you do remember page titles or URLs.
Now You: Do you use the browsing history of your browser regularly? Anything missing that you would like to see supported?

I hate how they still haven’t included an option to open History inside a tab, like Chrome, Opera, Vivaldi and the rest. Mozilla likes to self-promote how Firefox is the most modern browser, yet they haven’t removed that relic which is windowed History.
It’s in no way more convenient, because it’s just more clutter and unlike a tab, if you unfocus from it, it gets buried under other windows and the taskbar icons are alike so you don’t know which one to click, instead you have to hover long enough to see the tooltip.
Maybe someone likes it this way, but why did they remove windowed Downloads and turned it into a pop-up window instead with no option back? Clearly there is some reasoning behind this and my opinion is that they haven’t done the same about History is because according to their data, a very small percentage of their users accesses the History so they haven’t bothered changing it, which also implies that they think their users are simpletons.
I’d wager (if Firefox even continues to exist) Firefox will undergo further UI refreshes and the Windowed History will continue to persist.
Oh yeah and I forgot to mention that I share the same disdain towards the sidebar History too. It’s also an useless old relic that has absolutely no positive functionality and it’s only defended by people who were used to it since around the early 2000s when it was the golden standard, but after that UI has evolved to be more functional and user-friendly. And despite all the negatives of Chrome, it is a perfect example of a very good and functional UI. No wonder Firefox copied the tabs on top, they were desperate to stay relevant and despite all that Firefox has 3% world market share as it’s only being used by paranoid conspiracy theorists.

What Will Tech Policy Look Like Under Joe Biden?
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A new technology business incubator set to open in the Russell neighborhood in early 2021 is seeking to grow Black entrepreneurs by giving them training and resources.
"We are not broken," founder Dave Christopher said. "We don't need fixing. We need resources."
Tech giants is the founder and executive director of the Academy of Music Production and Education, known as AMPED Louisville, which helps children and teenagers, many who live in West Louisville, who have a passion for music.
Now, Christopher is hoping to help Black entrepreneurs through the AMPED Russell Tech Business Incubator, which will be located at the MoLo Village project at 12th and Jefferson.
"I want it to be the place as soon as you walk through the door, you feel your excellence, like you feel how great you are and how much greater you can be," he said.
According to Christopher, the incubator will begin with a cohort of 15 businesses, with several entrepreneurs graduates of AMPED Louisville. He said these businesses will receive training, access to capital and other resources, including access to accountants and attorneys.

"What I'm asking them is are you willing to take the time to learn the foundational things that you need to be a legacy business?" he said.
Christopher said the co-working space will also be available not only to the members of the cohort but to any entrepreneurs who may need access to the available resources. Christopher said this type of program is the only one of its kind in West Louisville. He said the goal of this program is to not just lend these businesses a hand but to teach them to create generational wealth that will help break the cycle of poverty affecting many families.
"It's almost like we have these programs that address the bandage," he said. "So we have really great bandages. What we need to do is heal the wound."
"We're going to learn how to build relationships with banks," Antonio Taylor, one of the members of the first cohort, said. "We're going to learn to build relationships with those professionals who work inside our industry so we know how to use the money that we got."
Taylor, known as T-Made, is the co-founder of Wave FM Online, a Black-owned multimedia company. Taylor said he knew Christopher when he had him on one of his shows a few years ago when he had a show on WLOU and signed onto the program as soon as Christopher approached him about joining.
"This program puts all emphasis on ownership because ownership is the key to generational wealth," Taylor said. "It is the key to closing the wealth gap in America."
Taylor said by the end of the year-long program with the Russell Tech Business Incubator, he hopes to have created a network of contacts that will be able to help fund and promote Wave FM Online and to create a sustainable business model for the future.
Chris Sacca mocks ‘Robinhood bros’ who spurn his investment advice: ‘Stonks never go down!’
Veteran venture investor Chris Sacca has a word of warning for beginner investors who made off like a bandit this year: It’s not you.
In a tweet Tuesday, Sacca dropped this “hard truth” on newbie investors: “You’re not actually that good at it. You just caught a wild bull market,” and advised them it’s time to take some profits.
The decade-long bull market has defied all odds and continued to surge this year, despite the economic havoc wrought by the coronavirus pandemic, leading to easy money for some investors, especially in tech, where IPOs boomed and valuations skyrocketed, leading to worries of another bubble. The tech-heavy Nasdaq COMP, +0.26% is up nearly 43% year to date, as opposed to the S&P 500’s SPX, +0.35% nearly 15% rise and the Dow Jones Industrial Average’s DJIA, +0.23% modest gain of almost 6%.
Also see: ‘Holy smokes, I’m a $TSLA-naire!’ Here’s how quickly Tesla’s wild ride has turned modest investments into seven-figure windfalls
While that tweet drew a lot of praise as solid advice, apparently Sacca drew enough backlash — including from Barstool Sports founder and day trader Dave Portnoy, who told Fox Business that Sacca “sounds like a sour loser and an idiot” — that he responded with another tweet Wednesday, this time dripping with sarcasm:
(“Stonks,” if you’re not hip to the lingo of kids these days, is an internet meme used to mock bad financial decisions.)
Sacca knows whereof he speaks. He built his first fortune investing during the dot-com boom two decades ago, then went bust when the bubble burst. He went on to found the VC fund Lowercase Capital, and was an early investor in tech companies such as Twitter Inc. TWTR, -0.61%, Instagram and Twilio Inc. TWLO, -0.11%. He retired from the VC game in 2017.

Foundation Supports Digital Library Programs As Use Soars During Pandemic
The job of a school board member is impactful and thankless in normal times. They often times have to make tough decisions about other people’s children that result in raised taxes, and, unlike other elected officials, they do not get paid. The pandemic and its associated restrictions have hit schools and education the hardest, with school boards having to make decisions soonest and with the least guidance and support from the governmental bodies around them.
One of the many inequities the novel coronavirus has exposed is in education. Back in March school districts had to institute virtual learning on the fly. Two things that any plan would require was access to electronic devices like tablets, Chromebooks or laptops as well as access to the internet. For some communities, access to these resources were taken for granted, but in places like the Norristown School District, where there is a wide spectrum of students on the socioeconomic scale, some students where left at a huge disadvantage.
“Fortunately, we were in the process of making sure every student in the district had a laptop,” said Norristown School Board member Turea Huston. “COVID did force us to speed up our timeline to make sure all students could learn virtually.”
When it was apparent schools were going to have to go virtual, many districts petitioned internet providers like Comcast to increase bandwidth and offer more services like Comcast Essentials, which provides free internet to households that could not afford it. They also had hotspots available to those who needed them.

“Internet is now an essential utility like heat or electricity. Unfortunately for many in our community this resources is not readily available,” Hutson said. “With schools closing but learning still necessary, we needed to find ways to make sure our students had at home many of the resources they have in school.”
Since the Norristown School District has a certain percentage of students below the poverty line they receive the Community Eligibility Grant, through the United State Department of Agriculture, which is given to school district so they can provide breakfast and lunch to everyone. Since the schools were closing the district had to work come up with a plan to distribute meals in addition to figuring out the logistics of virtual learning.
“We have plenty of meals that we are giving people food for everyone in the house,” Hutson said. “It has been a rough year but I’m encouraged by how the administration worked tirelessly for our students.”
The plan for the school district was always to give every student laptop. COVID accelerated that project. So they purchased more earlier.
The current state of climate tech
Climate tech is driving the global transition toward clean energy, while the oil industry struggles to find its footing in a changing world. Oil prices took a nosedive during the peak of the pandemic, sending another warning that the industry’s standing on shaky legs.
This week’s presentation for Quartz members explores the current landscape of the fossil fuel industry, the world’s slow but accelerating shift towards clean energy, and the companies and investors that are betting on climate technology.
Edison awards fire technology scholarships to COC students
Ten College of the Canyons fire technology students have received $1,000 scholarships from Edison International to cover tuition, books and school-related fees.
The students – Nancy Abad, Jake Backes, Michael Boone, Brandon Cockeram, Juan-Pablo Gonzalez, Victor Mere, Jeanette Robinson, Steven Sirk, Christopher Sotelo, and Braiden Swartz – had to have a cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher, be enrolled in the college’s fire technology program, and respond to four essay questions about their fire service career goals.
“2020 is a unique year,” said Keith Kawamoto, chair of the college’s fire technology department. “With the help of Edison’s generous contribution, our students and fire technology program will continue to adapt and overcome. The pandemic changed the way we teach, train, study and operate. As we emerge from the pandemic, our students will continue to receive the top-quality education and training they deserve.”
The scholarships were awarded through a $25,000 grant from Edison International in support of the college’s development of present and future fire personnel.
“This is COC’s third year receiving Edison’s fire technology grant,” said Kawamoto. “We are extremely fortunate that Edison continues to support fire and emergency services higher education. In addition to these scholarship awards, this Edison fire technology grant allows us to purchase uniforms for our students, and storage for our firefighting gear and equipment.  Edison’s generosity provides our COC fire tech students with resources to help overcome the challenges of 2020 and beyond.”
COC offers fire technology courses within the school of mathematics, sciences and health professions to provide the ample fire department staffing to battle California’s wildfires.
This program offers certificate/degree opportunities for both pre-service individuals and in-service professionals who seek career advancement. COC fire technology courses align with the uniform curriculum laid down by California Community Colleges.
Hawaiian Airlines CEO says airline is optimistic about 2021 travel, three new routes
After a bruising year for the airline industry, Hawaiian Airlines CEO Peter Ingram told CNBC he believes it’s only up from here.
Airlines spent much of 2020 cutting routes and reducing flights due to the decline in travel demand from the coronavirus pandemic, but companies including Delta and United Airlines have announced some new additions in recent months.
Hawaiian Airlines is joining the fray with new nonstop flights from Honolulu to Austin, Texas; Orlando, Florida, and Ontario, California, to be added in the spring. The Honolulu-based company anticipates a rebound in air travel in the new year and seeks to capitalize on population trends in the Southern states.
“The reason it’s the time to announce three new routes is because … we’re very optimistic about 2021,” he said on “Closing Bell.” “These are places we’ve been looking at for a long time. They have good strong demand for Hawaii.”
Austin has established itself among the top tech scenes in the country, rivaling the traditional tech ecosystem that the San Francisco Bay Area is renowned for. The Texas capital city has drawn interest from multiple technology companies that have either opened up factories there or announced plans to relocate their headquarters from California.
Earlier this month, Oracle, a Silicon Valley mainstay, said that it would shift its headquarters to Austin. It is one in a string of companies planning to relocate corporate operations outside of California.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has moved his personal residence to Texas, splitting the bulk of his time between Austin and Boca Chica, where SpaceX facilities are located. Tesla, which remains headquartered in Palo Alto, California, and Musk’s tunnel start-up, Boring Co., both have operations in Austin.
Apple is also growing its presence in Texas’ capital, where it’s investing $1 billion into a 3 million-square-foot campus. The site is expected to employ 5,000 people and is scheduled to open in 2022.
“I’ve seen coverage on your air about how Austin is booming as a tech center these days, and we think that many of those people are going to want to travel to Hawaii,” Ingram said. “The same goes for Orlando, which has a growing population.”
Florida is a longtime hotspot for retirees to relocate, and the population in the state has steadily climbed. Due to population shifts in the U.S., Texas is projected to add three seats to its U.S. House delegation and Florida is expected to pick up two, the Associated Press reported.
Based on Census Bureau estimates, 10 states, including New York, Michigan and California, are at risk of losing at least one seat in the House chamber, which could have a noticeable effect on the nation’s political map, according to the AP.
Hawaiian Airlines reported roughly 90% revenue declines in its last two quarterly reports.
“In a period where the depth of some of our traditional routes may not be what it was, it’s a good opportunity for us to look at broadening our network, and we see great opportunities from all of these, not just for next year but for the long term,” Ingram said.
Shares of Hawaiian Airlines fell 1.55% on a shortened day of trading in recognition of Christmas Eve. At $17.78 per share, the stock remains down 39% year to date.
The stock is more than double its pandemic low of $7.55 from mid-March.

Ride-hailing giant Didi wants to create the next Alipay
Although China’s largest digital payment platform, Ant Financial, had to halt its IPO and Beijing has stepped up scrutiny on financial technology companies, more tech companies are introducing their own online finance services as they try to take a piece of the pie.
China’s leading ride-hailing company, Didi Chuxing, launched a credit payment service named Yuefu (meaning “monthly pay”), which allows its users to ride now and pay later, according to Yicai (in Chinese).
Didi Yuefu offers up to 38 days of interest-free loans of less than 1,000 yuan ($153) for ride-hailing services in Didi’s mobile app.
The service is currently only available for selected users. It is expected to serve all of Didi’s over 550 million users in the near future.
Users are encouraged to sign up to receive a 10 yuan ($1.50) coupon, but risk having their Didi account suspended if they fail to pay back the loans 15 days after the deadline.
Didi is quickly expanding its in-app financial services and aiming for independence from the dominating third-party digital payment platforms — Alibaba’s Alipay and Tencent’s WeChat Pay.
The ride-hailing giant this July officially introduced Didi Pay, a digital payment platform that can be used on services in Didi’s ecosystem, including ride and taxi hailing, bike sharing, and public transportation.
Didi launched Didi Finance last January and began to provide car insurance and financing, health insurance, and investment services.
Facing the government’s growing scrutiny on fintech, Didi built a relationship with Beijing by becoming the first internet company to support China’s government-backed, central-bank-issued digital currency this July.
Experts expect financial services will become an important revenue source for Didi, which now takes over 90% of China’s ride-hailing market but has yet to turn a profit, according to China Times (in Chinese).
Other tech giants are also crowding into the credit payment market dominated by Ant Financial’s Huabei and JD.com’s Baitiao.
Food delivery giant Meituan launched its own Yuefu service in July. Under similar terms to Didi Yuefu, the service can be used for on-demand delivery, hotel and flight booking, and ride-sharing services in Meituan’s ecosystem.
TikTok’s Chinese version, Douyin, also began to provide a credit payment service, Fàngxīnhúa 放心花, and a loan service, Fàngxīnjìe 放心借, this November. Both services are currently only available for selected users.
Realized Potential: When Algorithms Are Used for Good
While we’ve devoted ample time to discussing areas of potential concern regarding the application of algorithms—and algorithm bias in particular—it’s also a good time to remember algorithmic technology is poised to make our lives better, often in ways we’ll never know about.
Foiling Faux Pharma Researchers at Penn State are working on a tool to identify the illicit players—which is to say, 75 percent of them—in the $100 billion online pharmaceutical market. Using an algorithm based primarily on the websites that link to illegal pharmacies, the tool will empower search engines, social media companies, online markets and digital payment platforms to weed out the bad actors, preventing consumers from buying fake, substandard or addictive drugs and reducing their own liability in such transactions.
Here’s to Hearsay Babelfisk glasses, developed by Danish designer Mads Hindhede, allow people with a hearing impairment to join in a conversation by seeing it in real time. Incorporating microphones, a tiny projector and speech-recognition technology, the glasses translate spoken conversation into text visible to the wearer as speech bubbles on the bottom of each lens. The glasses have been available for several years, and while their target consumer is someone who wants a fashionable alternative to hearing aids, they’ve also been touted as a useful gadget for lazy students.
Whacking Fake News In the wake of the 2016 U.S. election, and in anticipation of several elections taking place in the United Kingdom and Europe in 2017, multiple startups and organizations began developing algorithmic software to combat the spread of “fake news” online. Given that the major purveyors of digital misinformation know how to use predictive data too, the truthtellers are in for a long game of whack-a-mole. Here’s hoping the good guys have the heavier-hitting algorithms.

Artificial intelligence technology powers award-winning clinical research
TORONTO, Ontario, CANADA: Dentists can expect to do better than ever before in catching undiagnosed or overlooked conditions and identifying pathologies, thanks to radiographic analysis available from Denti.AI, according to new clinical research disclosed by the company.
The American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology awarded its 2020 Albert G. Richards Graduate Student Research Award to a University of North Carolina Adams School of Dentistry graduate student who showed the artificial intelligence software often accurately identified pathoses missed by board-certified dental experts, Denti.AI reported.
Manal Hamdan, DDS, conducted the study, titled “Detecting Apical Radiolucencies Using Deep Learning Technology: A Pilot Study.” She concluded that Denti.AI’s technology had comparable or improved results, and the artificial intelligence tool has the potential to reduce provider fatigue and diagnostic errors. Her poster on the same research won first prize for the best scientific poster at the AAOMR annual session, according to Denti.AI.
Dr. Don Tyndall, professor of oral and maxillofacial radiology at the Adams School of Dentistry, stated, “Dr. Hamdan’s research is an excellent example of university and business collaboration utilizing experts in radiology, deep learning and statistical analysis to produce clinically relevant and potentially game changing results validating software that can elevate patient care.”
“Our team at Denti.AI is committed to being at the forefront of implementing artificial intelligence into clinical practices through rigorous academic validation and collaboration with leading academic institutions,” said Dmitry Tuzoff, founder and CEO of Denti.AI.

This is the second academic award the company’s product has received this year. The University of Louisville awarded first prize to a separate clinical study featuring Denti.AI’s technology, the company said.
“We are building technology to help support oral health providers by bringing clarity, standardization, quality assurance, efficiency, and trust to the dental marketplace,” said Eric Pulver, DDS, the chief dental officer of Denti.AI.
With Denti.AI’s radiograph analysis, providers will catch more pathologies and help patients better understand the need for treatment to increase both quality of care and case acceptance, according to the company. Denti.AI’s cloud-based software centralizes the clinical data into its analytics platform, which makes it easy to see business performance in relation to hard clinical data, according to the company. Plus, its patent-pending auto-charting technology incorporates the radiographs directly into the clinical workflow, which improves operational efficiency, the company said.
Thanks to the AI-powered medical imaging technology, dental practices gain profitability, speed and quality, the company said. With Denti.AI, it only takes several seconds to interpret a series of intraoral X-rays or a panoramic image and produce a complete dental chart. Based on the experience of professional radiologists who participated in the training of the algorithms, Denti.AI looks to find what the naked eye often cannot.
Denti.AI is a software company that leverages AI analysis of dental X-rays to detect key abnormalities, past dental treatments, and other relevant features to find problems earlier and improve productivity, the company said. Its cloud-based service is integrated with a range of practice management software and imaging equipment, automating the clinical workflow of dental support organizations across North America.
TA-I Technology (TPE:2478) Has Rewarded Shareholders With An Exceptional 304% Total Return On Their Investment
The worst result, after buying shares in a company (assuming no leverage), would be if you lose all the money you put in. But when you pick a company that is really flourishing, you can make more than 100%. One great example is TA-I Technology Co., Ltd. (TPE:2478) which saw its share price drive 176% higher over five years. Also pleasing for shareholders was the 17% gain in the last three months. But this move may well have been assisted by the reasonably buoyant market (up 12% in 90 days).
Check out our latest analysis for TA-I Technology
To paraphrase Benjamin Graham: Over the short term the market is a voting machine, but over the long term it's a weighing machine. One way to examine how market sentiment has changed over time is to look at the interaction between a company's share price and its earnings per share (EPS).
During five years of share price growth, TA-I Technology achieved compound earnings per share (EPS) growth of 22% per year. That makes the EPS growth particularly close to the yearly share price growth of 23%. This indicates that investor sentiment towards the company has not changed a great deal. Indeed, it would appear the share price is reacting to the EPS.
You can see below how EPS has changed over time (discover the exact values by clicking on the image).
TSEC:2478 Earnings Per Share Growth December 23rd 2020
It might be well worthwhile taking a look at our free report on TA-I Technology's earnings, revenue and cash flow.
What About Dividends?
When looking at investment returns, it is important to consider the difference between total shareholder return (TSR) and share price return. The TSR incorporates the value of any spin-offs or discounted capital raisings, along with any dividends, based on the assumption that the dividends are reinvested. Arguably, the TSR gives a more comprehensive picture of the return generated by a stock. We note that for TA-I Technology the TSR over the last 5 years was 304%, which is better than the share price return mentioned above. This is largely a result of its dividend payments!
A Different Perspective
We're pleased to report that TA-I Technology shareholders have received a total shareholder return of 55% over one year. That's including the dividend. That gain is better than the annual TSR over five years, which is 32%. Therefore it seems like sentiment around the company has been positive lately. Given the share price momentum remains strong, it might be worth taking a closer look at the stock, lest you miss an opportunity. While it is well worth considering the different impacts that market conditions can have on the share price, there are other factors that are even more important. After finding glitch, Massachusetts suspends use of controversial camera system that lets police track cars
Massachusetts public safety officials have halted the use of a controversial license plate surveillance system after finding a glitch with the technology that caused it to record inaccurate data for more than five years, according to a memo obtained by the Globe.
The inaccuracies were found within a network of high-speed cameras installed by the Massachusetts State Police that automatically photograph the license plates of vehicles along roads across the state. The data, including location, date, and time, is compiled in a massive database — all without obtaining warrants or court orders.
The breadth of the newfound problem — and the impact it will have on an untold number of criminal cases — was not immediately clear Wednesday.
Attorneys quickly called on state officials to provide more details about past and ongoing criminal cases that may be impacted by the inaccurate data. Meanwhile, privacy advocates said the problem is a prime example of why lawmakers should step in to better regulate law enforcement’s use of the technology.
“Like with facial recognition and other newer forms of surveillance, there’s too many risks that something will go wrong if this is left entirely to the executive branch of the government to run secret,” said Kade Crockford director of the Technology for Liberty Program at the American Civil Liberties Union of Massachusetts. “We have to remember that these technologies are not perfect and they are never going to be perfect.”
The state’s Executive Office of Public Safety and Security issued the memo Wednesday to state criminal justice agencies and defense attorneys. In it, officials said the problem was discovered on Nov. 12 by State Police officials who were reviewing data collected by the automated license plate readers, or ALPRs.
The memo noted that the problem only affected cameras mounted in fixed locations, and did not affect plate-reader cameras installed on police cruisers. The problem also did not affect a separate network of cameras mounted above some toll roads.
State officials declined to directly answer questions or provide more details. Officials in Governor Charlie Baker’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
In a statement, State Police spokesman David Procopio said: “The Department will continue to assist in verifying date and times stamps using additional retained data while working with the vendor on potential solutions.”
The camera vendor, Neology Inc., did not respond to a request for comment Wednesday.
The memo said use of the cameras was suspended shortly after the problem was found last month and “will not be utilized until further notice.”
Officials found that the date and time stamps on some photographs captured by the system dating back to May 2015 were wrong, according to the memo. The glitch occurred if a camera had lost power, then regained power and started snapping pictures before it had reconnected to servers that update the camera’s date and time settings.
The memo warned that dates and times for photographs captured in the last 5 ½ years “should not be relied upon in the absence of information supporting the accuracy of that date and time, such as upload date and time information recorded by the host server or other corroborative evidence.”
The memo said state officials may be able to verify the accuracy of some of the data by cross-referencing data with information uploaded to the state’s data servers. But that data is only available dating back to November 2019.
Plate reader technology has proliferated across the country in recent years.
In 2015, state officials in response to a request from the ACLU estimated there were 170 fixed and mobile plate reader cameras in use around the state. More recently, officials have refused to disclose the total number of cameras in the state and their locations, but did tell the Globe in July that State Police alone owns or has access to 67 fixed and mobile plate readers.
Authorities have said plate readers allow them to track either the historical or real-time movements of violent suspects or drug traffickers, for example, or to find missing and abducted people.
Meanwhile, civil liberties advocates and some lawmakers have raised privacy concerns and questions about the constitutionality of police using the technology. They’ve also expressed concern over the technology’s use by private companies, including car repossession firms and parking lot operators, and the practice of other businesses, such as banks, insurers, and private investigators, buying data from brokers.
But the technology remains unregulated in many states, including Massachusetts.
The matter was recently challenged before the state’s Supreme Judicial Court in a case in which police received alerts any time an alleged drug dealer drove over the Bourne or Sagamore bridges.
The SJC ruled in April that use of the technology does not violate privacy protections — under limited circumstances. But the court cautioned that it might elevate privacy issues in future cases if law enforcement agencies start using information collected by plate readers without proper justification.
Paul Bogosian, the defense attorney who brought that case to the SJC, said the latest revelation has serious implications not only for his client, whose case is still proceeding to trial in Barnstable Superior Court, but also for an untold number of other defendants who face charges based on investigations that involved plate reader data.
“How many times have these camera images been relied upon to prosecute a person?” Bogosian said.
Bogosian said the memo raises a host of questions, including how frequently the cameras lost power over the years and captured inaccurate time stamps as a result. He also wondered how the problem went undetected for years.
“How is it that they missed this? It’s a little hard to believe,” he added. “I don’t think this memo is telling us everything. There’s got to be something deeper.”

Deepfake queen to deliver Channel 4 Christmas message
This year's Channel 4 alternative Christmas message will be delivered by a deepfake of the Queen.
While the Queen is delivering her traditional message on the BBC and ITV, her digitally created doppelgänger will be sharing its "thoughts" on Channel 4.
Buckingham Palace told the BBC it had no comment on the broadcast. https://m.vlive.tv/post/0-20494147
Channel 4 said the intention was to give a "stark warning" about fake news in the digital age.
Deepfake technology can be used to create convincing yet entirely fictional video content, and is often used to spread misinformation.https://m.vlive.tv/post/0-20494146
In the message, the deepfake will try its hand at a TikTok viral dance challenge.
'Countless imitations'
The five-minute message will refer to a number of controversial topics, including the decision by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to leave the UK. It will also allude to the Duke of York's decision to step down from royal duties earlier this year after an interview he gave to the BBC about his relationship with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. https://m.vlive.tv/post/0-20494168
The BBC's royal correspondent Nicholas Witchell was not impressed: "There have been countless imitations of the Queen. This isn't a particularly good one.https://m.vlive.tv/post/1-20501174
"The voice sounds what it is - a rather poor attempt to impersonate her. What makes it troubling is the use of video technology to attempt to sync her lips to the words being spoken."

While current technology does allow for voice deepfakes, the voice of this deepfake will be dubbed by British actress Debra Stephenson.https://m.vlive.tv/post/1-20501199
The TV star was previously the voice of a puppet of the monarch in the 2020 revival of satirical sketch show Spitting Image.
Stephenson said: "As an actress it is thrilling but it is also terrifying if you consider how this could be used in other contexts."https://m.vlive.tv/post/1-20501220

This year's Channel 4 alternative Christmas message will be delivered by a deepfake of the Queen.
While the Queen is delivering her traditional message on the BBC and ITV, her digitally created doppelgänger will be sharing its "thoughts" on Channel 4. https://m.vlive.tv/post/1-20501268
Buckingham Palace told the BBC it had no comment on the broadcast.
Channel 4 said the intention was to give a "stark warning" about fake news in the digital age.

Deepfake technology can be used to create convincing yet entirely fictional video content, and is often used to spread misinformation.
The BBC's royal correspondent Nicholas Witchell was not impressed: "There have been countless imitations of the Queen. This isn't a particularly good one.
"The voice sounds what it is - a rather poor attempt to impersonate her. What makes it troubling is the use of video technology to attempt to sync her lips to the words being spoken."

While current technology does allow for voice deepfakes, the voice of this deepfake will be dubbed by British actress Debra Stephenson.
The TV star was previously the voice of a puppet of the monarch in the 2020 revival of satirical sketch show Spitting Image.
Stephenson said: "As an actress it is thrilling but it is also terrifying if you consider how this could be used in other contexts."
The deepfake has been created by Oscar-winning VFX studio Framestore.

A north suburban community college is partnering with an organization devoted to providing opportunities for women and people of color to offer a free web design course.
As the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic continues to take an economic toll, YWCA Evanston/North Shore and Oakton Community College have teamed up to offer the course as a way to help students find in-demand jobs they can work safely from home.
While the course is open to anyone, “the spirit of the grant is to work with women, and in particular women of color, who are seeking employment in the tech industry,” said Shannon Callahan, director of women’s leadership and economic advancement for YWCA Evanston/North Shore.
The national organization with local branches works to eliminate racism and empower women, according to its mission statement.
The program is part of a national partnership with Google, YWCA USA and YWCA Madison, Callahan said. The Evanston YWCA branch is one of five participating in a national pilot program that if successful could be rolled out to other regions across the country.

YWCA Evanston/North Shore received a grant from Google to continue the program for three years, Callahan said. It will begin with a first course in January and a second in April.
“Historically we see many people come into computing through another career. Either they’re not satisfied with where they’re at or have had a change,” said Bob Sompolski, dean of STEM and health careers at Oakton Community College.
That has been especially true during this year’s pandemic, organizers said.
“Some people were furloughed or out of work, some were lucky to still be working but wondering, ‘I’d like a different job and with the technology, maybe I need to improve my skills,” Sompolski said. “It definitely was a big theme we heard in the orientations.”
For the incoming January class, Callahan said some of those who are taking advantage of the program were still working, but felt they were putting themselves in harm’s way by continuing to travel to their job site.

Participants in the intense, 12-week course will finish knowing how to create customized and interactive websites using HTML and Cascading Style Sheets, among other technology skills, according to information from Oakton Community College.
The curriculum is modeled after Oakton’s Web Page Development course, part of the school’s Computer Information Systems program.
Students will also learn skills necessary to help them land a job, like interview practice, resume writing and active listening, among others, organizers said.
The workload will require about 30 hours per week of a student’s time, organizers said. When finished, graduates will be prepared to pursue full-time permanent employment, paid internships or freelance careers in technology, according to the program’s website.
To qualify, interested applicants must have a high school diploma or its equivalent, be interested in a career in information technology and not currently in possession of a college degree, according to the organization.

Graduates will earn seven credit hours from Oakton. Students seeking to continue their education when the course is over can work toward a computer information systems certificate, associate or bachelor’s degree.
Courses are available at Oakton’s campuses in Skokie and Des Plaines, or at a community college in their area, according to the website.
“We’re so, so appreciative of the partnership with Oakton,” Callahan said. “They’re bringing this expertise and strong foundation and credibility to the program. That is huge for us and the reason we’ve had such a great response.”
As for Oakton, Sompolski said college officials see the program as part of the larger culture they want to cultivate on campus.

Peru mining development to require digital technology
Technology will become more important for mining in Peru, experts said during a digital transformation forum organized by Rumbo Minero.
Participants agreed that technology will be especially useful for discovering high-grade mineral deposits and for the operation of mines.
Compañía de Minas Buenaventura's innovation manager Ignacio Agramunt said that an important challenge relates to mineral impurities, prompting the need to find higher grade and economically viable deposits with the help of technology.
He added, "technology offers security and productivity."
Agramunt also said that Buenaventura seeks to make its US422mn San Gabriel gold project a digital mine.
“This mine should be the mine of the future.”
Linkminers CEO Emilio Gómez de la Torre said Peru's mining industry is using more digital solutions, especially smart sensors during various stages of the mining process.
Analytics is another important element. It allows to incorporate data into platforms and create predictability models and enables machine learning development.
"Regarding autonomy we are still a bit lagging, but at preceding stages there is strong progress, especially in the presentation of solutions by suppliers," de la Torre said.
